This guest house was a fantastic find in Alleppey, the room was clean and spacious with a glorious balcony attached. The bathroom was satisfactory, it met our needs just fine. Sheeja's breakfasts were delicious and we highly recommend that you try them! Sheeja also greeted us with cold water and watermelon when we arrived which was much appreciated. If you're in Alleppey, make sure to stay here.

We stayed for a night at Goku's homestay and we found the place quite decent. The room and the bed were neat and clean. There is a nice balcony attached to this room. The bathroom is not attached but is only a few stairs away but it is a private bathroom and is very clean. The hosts Santhosh and his wife were nice and hospitable. Santhosh can also book houseboats for backwater cruises at good rates. So if you are dropping in during the season, make sure you contact Santhosh in advance. The place is located near the Allapuzha collectorate and is 1.5 kms away from the Allapuzha beach and 5 kms from the boating area. I would recommend this place.

The room is quite basic, but clean. The homestay may be a bit difficult to find because it is in a very quiet road off the main street. Not too many restaurants or shops closeby, but still within walking distance. Santhosh and his family were very friendly and welcoming, I could always approach them with any problem or question I had. Santhosh helped me arrange a canoe trip in the backwaters and he and his wife were always there to explain to me how to get to the places where I wanted to go. All in all I had a great stay here!

From the first moment we felt very welcome, save and comfortable. Santhosh and his wife Sheena are very warm, kind, careful and helpful, you can address them anytime with any request, they always stand at your disposal. Their house provides with typical Indian charm with all necessary standard. Top of our stay was definitely very Kerala style and delicious breakfast cooked every morning with love. Once we will be in Alleppey, we will certainly use the house again. Words can not describe the wonderful family of Santhosh. By far, Santhosh has provided a great experience for travellers. From setting up the backwaters boat rides, to making us feel very much at home at his homestay. It took a huge load of worry away. The rooms and washrooms were very clean. The clean linen, clean towels and clean water was extremely important to us. Santhosh and his wife Sheeja were great hosts. The best we've had in India.

James' place is very good. I originally planned to stay only for 3 days, but finding the place to be wonderful I extended my stay for another 2 days. James' family is welcoming, cheerful and extremely helpful. His wife guided me to buy some authentic keralan sweets and spices. They also arranged drop and pick up from Kochi airport, helped with renting a scooter, and booked a spa appointment. They also guided me properly about going for the backwaters tour. Their homestay is centrally located, with the Allepey beach, restaurants, and shops located within a 2 km radius. It is a clean, spacious, and homely place. The neighborhood is quite and safe, and is easy to reach. I'd recommend Mariya homestay for longer stays.

This place is right in the heart of Dutch square in Alleppey and is very much accessible to the beach, cathedral and other important posts of the city. The host's family stay in the ground floor and they've let the first floor space for hire. It's a very quiet locality and hence is very appropriate for a relaxing holiday. The house is maintained well - offers WiFi too. There's a nice balcony with a carrom board. The host offered us a nice Kerala breakfast (puttu, kadala curry). We initially had some trouble locating the place since the Airbnb directions took us elsewhere. Guess it's better to rely on the directions the host provides you and not just go by the map.

We were six Norwegian girls who were travelling to Alleppey during our long weekend, aside to our studies in India. James met us at the bus stand, and we communicated very well before, during and after the visit. He provided transport to the homestay when we arrived, but also arranged transport to the airport early in the morning. We had no difficulties at all during the visit to Alleppey and they were so helpful throughout the entire visit. They made our stay both safe and comfortable, and they offered to help with every little thing, even breakfast every morning. The neighbourhood was quiet and nice, and the house was very close to Alleppey beach, and a five minute drive from the main street in Alleppey. I really recommend this stay if you look for trustworthy, down to earth people who really, really want you to have a good stay and time in Alleppey!

The family are very helpful, a simple check-in and they were extremely amenable in washing our laundry at a reasonable price. Would recommend

James picked us up at the bus station and when we arrived they served us a typical meal of Kerala. The disappointment was to find that our accommodation sold as a private home actually was only two private rooms and we didnt have access to the kitchen. The rooms are clean and air conditioned and balcony is available. The hosts are very accessible and above all very helpful, they reserved for us pedicab and backwaters. In short we recommend accommodation 900 meters from Alleppey Beach.

Arrived 4 hours early, provided their own room to get fresh. The place is at the center of the city and all most of the tourist places are located within 3 km. Tasty and healthy breakfast is provided. The place looks exactly same as shown in the photos. Behavior of host is AWESOME.

The place is nice for solo travelers or a small group of friends. It is a good budget accommodation and is located 500 to 700m from the beach. The boat jetty to take the backwater boat rides is a little far but Autos are available easily. The homestay description mentions "providing backwater tours" but it was not mentioned or suggested to me during my stay. Though Uncle James gave suggestions about where and how to take the ride from. The hosts are very warmhearted and humble people and give you an 'at home' feeling. As it was Christmas, they also treated me with some cake and wine which was delicious. We had a small chat over the cake and wine where we shared life some stories. It was fun. Good place to enjoy Alleppey and come back and relax.

The host Mr.James was really nice. He took very good care of us right from when we got down to when we left !! The rooms were in a residential locality and were in a quiet neighbourhood.. he treated us like his guests, helping us with every small thing.. provided us with tips and directions to various locations.. The food we were served with was really delicious !! A fantastic stay and would recommend for anyone !!

Nice trip overall, the beauty of Kuttanad backwaters are breathtaking from inside. One thing though, our guide could barely speak English so we have not learned much about the backwaters people, culture or history.

The backwater experience was definitely an once in a lifetime experience worth doing. I would suggest you to have this trip on weekends so you can meet the tour guides daughter Sandra - who definitely adds a good amount of value to this experience. An entire day well spent visiting the backwaters and making new friends.

A nice day out on the backwaters of Alleppey, with breakfast & lunch in a Keralan home. The tour operators daughter, Sandra, was an absolute delight & speaks perfect English - she definitely kept us entertained. Nice cruise down some of the smaller canals, away from the main waterways & large houseboats. Definitely nice to get some peace & quiet. Would point out that this is a day trip only & no stay involved

This was our first canoeing trip and was a wonderful experience & beyond our expectations . The Canoe trip in to the interior villages of Alleppey was extremely scenic which a regular house boat trip could not have provided. The trip was quiet, close to the nature.The boat man and his family were very hospitable. If you are planning to travel in the month of march to may, I would suggest to carry a hand fan, Sun glasses, water bottle and a Hat.

Day trip was fabulous canoeing. I highly recommend and I regret the preferred solution to the canoe houseboat solution. The access by small canals was fabulous. Thank you Of course it is not possible (and desirable) to sleep on a canoe trip and the day is sufficient. Bravo

Do note that this is a day trip to the backwaters and there is no stay involved. Oscar's village day tour was a whole new experience. The day tour took us into the real backwaters on a canoe. The canoe ride was unique as it did not disturb the lake as it was paddled. This gave us an opportunity to see many species of birds which the motorboats scare away. The canoe took us through the smaller canals where we could see the villagers doing their daily chores and made us aware of the role of the backwaters in their day to day life. We did see fishermen in smaller canoes selling fish to the villagers and other traders like a person selling house hold items and another selling earthen vessels. The trip started from Alleppey around 8:45 when we took a motor boat to the village as the villagers do to reach their homes. Around 9:45 we reached the village, to the house of one of the Canoe-men. The breakfast provided was authentic and tasty. around 10:30 we started the canoe trip around the village crossing the Vembanad lake to the river Pamba and to the smaller canals. The ride ended around 2:30 when we went back to the Canoe-man's home to have lunch served on a banana leaf. After lunch we spent some time with his family and his daughter Sandra entertained us with some magic tricks. We left the village around 4:30 and reached Alleppey by boat at 5:30.

Great Homestay! Thomas is a really nice guy and he cares a lot about your comfortness. We even spent one more night because we liked it so much. Absolute recommendation!

We had a great experience. The location is convenient, not far from a small beach in Alleppy. The staff was very helpful and helped us (a group of three guys) in arranging for a shikara ride through the backwaters. On a slightly unrelated note, the staff also helped us in our unusual requests (teaching us how to wear the traditional attire - 'mund'). The room was very clean and well maintained. The breakfast (south Indian) was also excellent. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay.

An Epic Stay! I had very high expectation from this stay and at the end i would have to stay my expectations were substantially exceeded. It was an inch perfect stay with everything taken care of to the minutest detail. The staff was very hospitable, our house-boat was pretty clean and the decor was amazing. Loved It!

I was travelling with my one year old daughter and was apprehensive about my stay. But everything was beyond expectations.We enjoyed a short village walk in the evening when boat halted at some village.Rooms were very clean free from mosquitoes. Food was very delicious. Staff were welcoming. Overall its was memorable stay and thank Indiavacationz team for creating memories.

This was our first stay at houseboat and we liked it very much. We had a group of 10+ including elderly people , adults and kids. All of us enjoyed the stay and kids liked it very much. It is safe for kids but need to keep an eye on infants/toddlers (as we may have to keep the windows open to enjoy the breeze) Considering that it was a houseboat (i.e, space and power constrained), it contained almost everything to keep the stay comfortable... Hosts were great and accommodative. We were quite late (by 3 hours) and they waited for us at one of the pick up points. We felt sorry for making other guests also wait :- ( Based on photos , I was assuming a bigger bedroom etc. It was quite compact and can take two adults and a kid (max). After sometime, it kind of gets bit bored and it would be good to have some entertainment (games, movie etc). One thing to note is about the A/C. The bedrooms are with A/C, but it will be turned on only between 9 PM and 6 AM. It gets stuffy inside (houseboat) and not an option to be in bedroom if A/C not turned on. may be, these are quite normal for houseboat but new to us since we were first timers. Houseboat gets docked around 7 PM (as per govt rules) and docked near a beautiful small village. Hosts recommended a nearby massage centre (kerala style) and it was a perfect one !!

We had a great time staying there. Its on the other side of the river which is very chilled out and has a few more tourists. Keep in mind that the last ferry goes at 5.30pm and the first one isn't till 7.30am or so, so if you have a early train you will need to move places. However Mukesh organised this for us with no additional charge. Would reccomend!!

We had to climb thru several boats to get to our boat which was very dangerous especially for older people, the route from the main road where there is limited parking to the boat place is very rugged with lots of potholes and water ditches. Definitely not what you see on the advertising on Airbnb. We did not meet the guy we communicated with thru Airbnb the only people on board were the cook and the driver who were great friendly helpful people. The pillows were disgusting, no entertainment whatsoever onboard like English videos or board games. The bed linen have definitely seen better days. The food was delicious. Overall not bad! Lots of mosquitoes take bug spray and toilet paper

When we arrived to the boat that we had booked via Airbnb, it turned out that it was not the boat on the pictures posted on Airbnb. It was a much older boat, dark and the rooms where not clean. We asked to get the boat we had booked and after a long discussion the drove us of to get another boat. This was a very nice boat. The overall experience on the boat was nice, except for the fact that they just take you down a river an then back almost the same way on the first and the next morning the just drove us in circles on the same lake.

One of the best experience of our stay in Kerala. It was a very relaxing stay at the boat with amazing food served by the chef. they will stop by a small village and you may get extra fishes/seafood at the village for dinners. If you plan not to, don't worry a simpler dinner will still be served on board! & do wake up earlier to caught the beautiful sunrise! Pls bring a lot of mineral water on board and extras for brushing ur teeth and face as the water is slightly dirty. We still shower using the water provided, and none of us had any rashes or such. Overall it was one of the best experience at Kerala, and would definitely recommend it to my friends!

Amazing seacruise on the backwaters with two nice hosts. Highly recommend !

I'm a backpacker and used to quite a bit. But this time I was travelling with my family and looking for a place where 5 people (30-60 yrs) can stay comfortably. Let's start with the good things. The food was decent. And the backwaters are undeniably beautiful. And we were lucky to not have any mosquitos in the rooms!! The boat on the other hand is only months away (or has passed?) from retirement. The bathrooms are very very bare, the tiles are being held together by tape and the shower (bucket shower, which is fine in India but should definitely be mentioned!!) was practically not useable. The water was dirty (brown and smelly) which left us without shower for 2 nights! There was no toilet paper in the toilets and even though soap was stacked in the kitchen, it wasn't distributed in the washrooms. The rooms are small but decent. 1 room has a cupboard. The other doesn't. Definitely not enough space to fit 5 people comfortably! Also the 5th bed had to be put when we arrive (mattress on the floor), even though we had informed the host beforehand. A/C in one room was broken. Which left me wondering if you can actually breath a room empty of oxygen. But the mosquito nets are intact and we didn't have any mosquitos in the rooms. The deck seating is comfortable for 2, maybe 3. There are bamboo chairs (without cushions which is very uncomfortable for sitting in them an entire day). The downstairs "dining" area missed one chair, since the captain used it for steering the ship. The food however, was nice. 3 times a day. Typical South Indian. Overall, I would recommend this boat for a group of max 4 people who are all young and used to very basic backpacking commodities. Anybody else shouldn't consider this boat. If you go around Allepey you will find much nice, better value for money places. Definitely not for people who are used to 3* and above.

Vargese chettai was really great and accommodating. The service that him and his team brought was impeccable and comparable to western standards. Food, sights, and service were great. I hope to use his services in the future.

Overall fine. Good food. Some points to be noted- 1. Owner has two numbers so do get the second number of him in advance. 2. There will be quite a lot of insects in the evening. In one of our rooms, the insects were coming in even after closing the room completely. Take the necessary precautions. 3. Air conditioning starts only after 9 PM. This is mainly because the ACs need to be powered by the main grid once the boat is parked. 4. We reached late so couldn't spend much time in motion. Since the boats have to parked by 6PM, a timely arrival is recommended. 5. The pickup was done by an Omni van from Achayan parking but the drop was not done back to the parking, probably due to the strike in place. Overall stay was pleasant. Owner stays in Cochin and his presence would have been much appreciated.

This place is a steal at this price. Sandwiched between 2 rivers, This Island location is an amazing hideout from the noisy roads. Divya also has a cheaper dorm on the same property but this particular ensuite room is the best spot on the property..Just open the room door and you get a splendid view of the lake and boats passing by! She has also installed hammock swings by the edge of the waters and they feel amazing. She owns a private canoe boat which is tied to the property and arranged a full day boat trip for us at a nominal price! Now because this place is Sandwiched between two rivers which is also why this place is so natural and unpolluted, This also means Cars and Bikes cannot get here.. There is a public boat that operates constantly to help people cross the river to get to the roads and vice versa and the pathway between that public boat and the property (about 500 metres) has no street lights and can get dark by 6 which is fun too! You need a torchlight or the mobile flash would do.. There is No security issues though as its a tightly knit village community and there are houses on the path and everyone here is extra ready to help tourists..However, If you're too scared, Divya can arrange a private boat for a small fee which will drop you at the doorstep! There's also a little cute Super Friendly little Dog Kutchi that will give you some fun company..Not recommended for the elderly or people with knee pain or joint pain etc... Amazing place for youngsters and Thrill seekers!

A true paradise! Far from any disturbance, lost in the middle of the backwaters is ideal for a good time of rest. We only hear the sound of water and nature. Meals are simple and user-friendly, all visitors gathered to around a common meal, good atmosphere guaranteed! We also recommend a ride on the little boat of the residence to explore the area, it's beautiful. (Remember to contact the host before arriving for someone to guide you to accommodation, otherwise it is impossible to find by yourself.)

The stay was excellent! Simple and lovely place. And extremely close to the beach (2 mins walk) so you can have a morning walk before leaving to the backwaters. Only concern is that there is a railway crossing next to it, so that might be of some disturbance.. The host very helpful with info about travel and attractions. The chai they offer is good too. Amazing dinner on a balcony outside the room. The most delicious meal I've had so far in India! Abi was so hospitable and made everything very easy. For example giving us advice on where to go and ordering auto rickshaws. If we're ever back in Alleppey we will definitely come and stay again!

Abi's home stay is a familiar and Cousy experience. Clean, excellent AC ( necessary in Alpy) an delicious food. Abi was really really kind, helped us with our canoa trip ( with Antony, I suggest him) and good spots. Also He helped us to find transportation during a rickshaw strike.

Abi was the best host we've ever had in India. He helped us with all things we needed, he made very delicious food for us, his ginger&mango juice is just unforgettable! The room is clean and cosy, the location is very good: beach is 5 minutes walk away, backwater boat trips are 5 minutes away on autorickshaw. I would definately recommend Abi as a host.

Location : 2 mins from Allepey beach, arnd 3.5 kms from main bus stand. You can reach via auto or just walk like I preferred. The Owner Abie will pick up up also if you request Owner : Abie is a wonderful host and goes out of his way to ensure you have a great time at Allepey. Place : Neat and clean room at upper deck of an independent house. You are served home made food, especially fish is fresh and delicious. This place is amazing value for your money and the warm and caring nature of Abie is the cherry on top. He even helped me around with kayaking at quite low rates compared. Since the place is a little distance from bus stop, he even offered to drop/pick up me in his scooter. A must try if you are backpacking and looking for an good quality bnb at Allepey.

View shown in pictures is not available in ground or first floors. We had to ask for a better room. We were then given a room on 2nd floor. Surprisingly, foreigners were given 2nd floor straightaway, without even asking. Maybe to get better ratings ! Food and room service was great. Though their is no direct extension number for room service, we called the reception and a person used to come to room to take orders. Food is above par than the nearby restaurants. If you can't find anything nearby, you can rely on their kitchen without a doubt! Restaurants on TripAdvisor are overrated. We visited the top rated restaurant as well. We found hotel food better. View from the 2nd floor is great. You get to see the finishing point, house boats and speedboats in the lake. Small balconies though! It's a 3-star hotel not a family stay! Managers are lousy. You might have to push them for getting things done. I tried arranging for taxis twice, got no response. They give you a lip service every time. Cleaninless is of a motel/3-star hotel. Basic amenities.

We had a great time at Cheppy's beautiful heritage home! Especially the garden with a little bar is very nice! The atmosphere that is created in his place is very friendly and cosy. Would absolutely recommend this place to stay in Alleppey! The sheets could be a little cleaner and the mosquitonet in our room could be replaced to make it even better!

Absolutely an awful experience! On arrival, we asked the person who booked us in for a recommendation for lunch. The place that he suggested was shut down and looked like it hadn't been open for years. We had to walk another kilometer before we found another place to eat. On asking for hot water for a shower, the staff refused and said that there was no gas to even heat up a bit of water That night, I looked up the booking which included AC as a facility but the AC in the room was not working. When asked, the staff was extremely rude and told us that that was an option, not a facility and was asked to pay extra for the AC. Pretty much decided to ignore the staff from then on except that the manager was sitting with his friends getting drunk in a common space. Hard to ignore when you have to use the common space to get access to the promised wifi. In general, we had a decent stay only because we completely ignored the management and tried to make our way ourselves. It is a miracle we survived 2 nights there. The room we were assigned, had nothing to offer except some threadbare bed sheets. The bathroom did not even have soap, forget TP. And the place was overrun with lizards. I am not sure that plastic bathroom doors qualify as heritage. It is not that we were looking for the cheapest deal. We stayed in another property via air b n b in Cochin that was priced similarly except that the service and hospitality made it the highlight of our one week trip in Kerala. Please stay away.

This place is very famous among the local. I was amazed that all the local auto knew about the place. The house is very well decorated and the host has very well converted this heritage house to homestay. I stayed at this place for 1 night with my parents and we took 2 rooms. The place was well connected to all the nearby place and the rooms were comfortable. The only issue I felt at this place was that the management was not good. The power was gone and there was no power backup, emergency light, and even candles. We were in the complete dark for 2 hours. No one ever visited us to ask for things.

The garden and its outer frame immediately liked. Practice because we are next to the beach. However we were disappointed with the rooms and their disregard, which we think are not worth the asking price.

This is a hotel and not a home-stay. There is no provision for making tea, one has to hunt around to find where to get it. The place does not provide food or a kitchenette . There are hotels at 5 to 10 minutes walking distance. You would need to hire a rickshaw from bus-station but you need good directions to the place to find it. Boards identify it as " Blue Lilly"

We stayed for two nights and it was a nice room, clean and for that short time really sufficient. Finding the apartment was not as easy as we thought it would be. When you arrive in alappuzha go for an tuk tuk and tell him you want to go to 'blue lilly' that's the easiest way to find it. Jimson is a nice and helpful host. If you have questions you can always ask him. If you search for an good and quite room in alappuzha this one is a really good opportunity.

Stay by the lake helped us have a nice boating experience to explore the backwaters. The host arranged the shikara boat ride, decently priced and convenient for us. He also offers a village tour which could be quite insightful for those from an urban background. Parking safety wasn't assured, so we had to use the pay and park option nearby.

Jimson's place is a little away from the hustle and bustle but still in walking distance of places to eat and shops. The homestay is right on the waterfront in a nice location and the rooftop terrace is a great chill-out zone. All in all great value for money.

Excellent room , with lake view. The host was very service-minded. The room was very clean, we enjoyed our stay alot.

Very laid back place. A little walk to the main town and restaurants, but not too far, and you can always get a tuk tuk! Right on the back water, which was lovely. We went on the canoe tour they arrange and it was great. We stayed in non-AC room and it had a great balcony outside it. The sun heated the room quite a bit in the day and it took a while to cool off - but if you aren't ok with that then you can always get AC!
