  • Anoushka's little house was really beautiful, comfortably furnished and very clean. The house is located off the road in the middle of nature and can be reached via a gravel path. The next town is a little further away.

  • The tiny house has everything you’ll need. It is cosy and spotless. We came instead of camping, because it was raining the whole day and we loved it :) Anoushka is really kind and responded immediately. She is a great artist and if you are interested you can buy postcards or prints at her studio next by.

  • A super cute, romantic place to stay. It was sparkling clean and with attention to detail. At night you can watch wonderful stars. Always happy =)

    Silvia2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • A great Airbnb! It is a very cozy, nicely decorated and clean cabin. A great bed, one of the best nights sleep so far in NZ, and a great shower. You can walk freely trough the garden and there is an area to sit and enjoy the sun. Enough privacy. There is some yogurt , oat and fruits to make yourself a nice breakfast. Anouschka and her husband and kids were great hosts, we felt very welcome. We will definitely return if we are around some day.

Tiropahi Retreat Bed & Breakfast situated on the South Islands West Coast. This private studio overlooks the Tasman Sea with a backdrop of Forest and Mountains (Paparoa). It is an idyllic venue for a quiet retreat with a delicious breakfast.
The location of this remote retreat allows guests to appreciate the natural beauty of this mountainous coastal landscape. The room comfortably sleeps 3 persons with a separate kitchenette and bathroom. Breakfast is provided and is either cooked or continental.
  • A wonderful secluded cabin set amongst stunning native bush. Watch the fantails and wax eyes flit on the deck while you sip a wine in the outdoor bath. The California king bed is so comfy!! A real piece of paradise, and the breakfast is to die for. Thanks so much Shelley!!

  • Our stay was amazing, great location and Shelley was lovely. The place was great, very homey and great views. Nice and secluded with lots of privacy. Wonderful breakfast from Shelley & great local tips.

    Matt2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • It was like a beautiful hangout hidden in the woods. The elegant interior combined with the nature seen through the window seemed to fit within a scene of the movie. A hearty breakfast was also excellent. You can't find the address on Google Maps, so you should look carefully at the description Shalley sends you. Find 'Blue Flag'!

    Yaerin2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Shelley’s hut is situated in the most picturesque area inside what seems like a secret garden. We only stayed for one night but we slept great and the breakfast we had in the morning was probably the best we’ve had in NZ. Would love to stay there again!

    Karolina2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Shelley's place is amidst a vast garden. A lovely comfortable space, kind & gracious host, who also provided us with an amazing breakfast. We only wish we had stayed more than one night. It was a much needed calm & quiet retreat.

    Lindsey2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • As far as Airbnb reviews and ratings go, no words or even the highest rating of five out of five will do justice to Shelley or her place. Tiropahi Retreat is an entirely different league. One has to experience staying there to know, to feel and to appreciate what it offers. The place is magical. It is tastefully decorated. It is spacious - both the bedroom and the bathroom. Everything is of luxurious quality, be it the bedding, pillows or the toiletries. It is in the middle of a mature and well-cared-for garden. You can see the sea from the patio. All you hear and see is the nature all around you. There is a great selection of music CDs and some books too. True to its name, Shelley's place offers a complete retreat. It is not for those who wish to cook. There is no stove or microwave or oven. The nearest restaurant (a pizzeria) is about 10-12 minutes drive away. Nearest petrol station is 25-30 kms away in Westport. Did any of that matter when one stays there? Actually not even a bit. At least, not to me as a solo traveller, or even as a couple it wouldn't. Why not? First of all, Shelley makes a gourmet breakfast. It is so healthy and unbelievably hearty, and is delivered to you every morning. That's luxury. Who wants/needs to cook! Secondly, there is a good selection of teas, excellent quality coffee with kettle and plunger, milk and fresh fruits (locally grown) available for you in the kitchenette before you arrive. It is an exceptional place for taking a break from the regular humdrum of life and connecting yourself with nature, or connecting with yourself amidst nature! Meeting Shelley will be a privilege too.

Our slightly shabby 1910 villa is the perfect place to escape and read a few great novels. It has high ceilings, plenty of light, a colourful mix of decor, and lots of great books (Classic, modern, and NZ literature). The guestroom features bay windows and ornamental fireplace. Must love pets - we have one friendly beagle (Eager) and three aloof cats (Augustus, Remus & Romulus). Sample a wide range of local jams, honey, bread, milk, muesli, fruit and milk for breakfast.
This family home has been well-loved and is need of some repair and TLC, but that kind of adds to the character. The old cast iron bath has some rust marks and it takes a little while to get the temperature in the shower just right. My son and I will be your hosts and you can make yourself completely at home, with full use of all facilities and access to our vege garden. Tea, coffee, and sugar are provided in the guest room.
Just 25 minutes' walk along the Kawatiri RIver Trail to the beach, or five minutes' walk to shopping and cafes on Palmerston Street (Westport's main street). There is a corner shop and fish and chip shop at the end of our street. The neighbours are very friendly. A short drive to many of Buller's best attractions: The seal colony at Cape Fowlwind (20 minutes), caving at Charleston (30 minutes), Denniston mining village (20 minutes). Westport is nestled between three popular tramping tracks: THe Heaphy, The Old Ghost Road, and The Paparoa Track.
  • Ellen’s place is charming, adorable and comfortable. The bedroom has beautiful bay windows and a lovely bookcase with fantastic reads. I greatly enjoyed stopping here and was able to rest well and easy. Ellen’s hospitality was very inviting and there is a very comfortable amount of privacy. I highly recommend her place! A truly beautiful, unique and wonderful stay! Great access to all sorts of local activities and adventures.

Relax and rejuvenate on the beach. Enjoy the sea view, from your bed, couch, shower, bath and toilet. Walk through the paddock across a mown path, to the nine mile beach. It is a beautiful part of the west coast, with the Tasman sea in front and the Paparoa mountain range behind us. A women's wellness clinic is adjoining - extra charges apply. If no treatment is wanted, this room is not in use when we have guests so you are assured of your privacy.
You can just relax and look at the view, walk on the beach, or get involved with all the adventure in the area. We have some stunning bush walks, amazing caving with glow worms and stalactites, abseiling, seals, penguins and lots of other birdlife from weka, tui, waxeyes, oyster catchers, hawks and seabirds. We are only 20 minutes from Punakaiki and 20 minutes from Westport, with a nice rural/beach setting right in the middle of the two.
Imagine a short walk across a grass path, just in front of your room, to a nine mile beach, walking barefoot in the smooth sand, hearing only the sound of the waves and calls of the seabirds, and at times having it all to yourself. When the day is over you can relax with the sunset, from the bathtub or your bed, lulled to sleep with the sound of the waves. This is why we value living here. When feeling energetic there is also lots of adventure to explore in and around beautiful Charleston.
  • Denise’s place is a great place to escape - we enjoyed sunny weather while there, but also enjoyed hiding and watching the waves when the rain came. Amazing bath, and lovely little touches like homemade cookies!

    Iona2020-03-04T00:00:00Z

  • Denise’s place is the perfect quiet spot , right on the beach. The place was spotless and with a very comfy bed—and Denise was such a welcoming host. We loved our stay—thank you!

    Angela2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • A great location from which to explore the northern part of the west coast. The room has amazing views and we had the beach to ourselves. Denise was a great host who gave us loads of advice about the local area.

Almost perfect two day South Island experience, Trans Alpine train trip from Christchurch to Greymouth, great drive up the coast to Jude's place then a spectacular drive to Picton - only thing wrong was we should have given ourselves an extra day in Cape Foulwind - Jude's cottage and the area is that good!!!

  • Okari cottage is in a stunning location on the coast and the house itself is perfect. Everything you need with personal touches. So well equipped. Jude was really helpful with local tips, the star tavern was great (can recommend the fish!), really good walk to see the seals and on to the lighthouse and enjoyed popping in briefly to westport. Tourist info very helpful and nice local gifts, brewery was great, nice coffee and food at gibby's cafe and near there a lovely shop with locally made jewellery and art. We'll worth a visit. If you love the sea and your own space okari cottage is perfect and no pesky flies or midges!

  • Typical kiwi holiday park, quite basic but with all necessary amenities. Was easy to find and check in. Just bring your own kitchenware and cutlery as there can be not enough for your needs.

    Stan2018-12-25T00:00:00Z
  • A ten minute walk and you are on one of the most amazingly beautiful secluded beach in NZ. Stay here just for that!!! Our cabin room was clean and adequate. It had an inside table and chairs as well as an outside table and chairs on our private porch. No wi-fi to speak of because the country connection was too slow. A great "en route place" or luxuriate in a place with an exploratory beach. This little town has a local community hall in which you can buy liquor and meet the locals. The men of the area that we met in the community center produced a nude calendar of themselves (old men and young!) as a fundraiser so the town could buy a defibrillator! This is a village full of terrific people. Don't know anything about the commercialized glow worm cave down the street.

  • Lovely space on the West coast. Had a really lovely stay--comfortable space, newly built. Richard was very welcoming. As was his dog Meg!

  • Super clean and cosy, great location and awesome hosts

    Carl2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • Richard’s place was a joy. Right on the beach, it exudes relaxation. Five minute walk to a nice bar/ restaurant and spacious and stylish. The bed is really comfortable and Richard is a great host, very welcoming and helpful.

    Jennifer2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Richard’s place was more than perfect! He met us upon arrival and is a very friendly host 😄 The place has lots of space in every room - wonderful! Richard has built the Airbnb studio himself on his property fronting to the beach and the layout is quite spectacular; There’s a large area outside of the bedroom with a couch, tables and foosball table (which I only lost to my husband by 1 point haha), perfect area to relax with a pizza from “Smiley’s Pizza” which was a couple minutes drive down the road. In the main living area is the spacious bedroom and then kitchen with everything you would need to eat with. Bed was great - didn’t wake up once during the night. Bathroom is beautiful, has a waterfall shower head, and of course everything is brand new. This place is perfect for however many nights stay you need, not just one! Oh and don’t forget to visit the Seal Colony less than 10 mins from the place, awesome to see, they are hilarious 😂 If you want to stay near Westport, don’t look any further! Thanks for a wonderful stay Richard 😊

  • Great location and host. Walking distance to the cafe/bar down the road which is great after a long drive. Would stay again.

    Jonathan2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This is a newly created space that is well- designed and thoughtfully furnished. We had a rainy day, so we spent time lounging about and it was very comfortable. Richard and Isabelle are outstanding hosts, and their dog is the best trained dog I have ever met. A real sweetie.

    Vicki2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Richard‘s apartment was very spacious. We were able to relax and enjoy the beach view.

    Carsten2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Very spacious, cozy apartment with an additional large room next to the bedroom ..... located directly on the sea and only a short drive to Westport. Also suitable to stay indoors in bad weather ..... microwave and grill (but no stove for cooking). Very friendly hosts .... I can only recommend Richard's accommodation!

  • Nice room in a peaceful property with a welcoming host, my friends and I spent a relaxing evening and a good resting night at Donald’s place. Thank you for the tour and for the breakfast!

    Elise2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • Off Grid hospitality. Don is a great host and will look after you with local advice and any requests. Get away from the crowds and enjoy the country.

    Glenn2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • It's simple, the welcome is up to par, and Donald is someone very interesting.

    Laura2019-12-17T00:00:00Z
  • The accomodation is a bit out of the way but with the description of Donald and something more attentive passing by, we found this right away. Also, Donald was very accommodating and gave us his number in advance if we could not find it. It is a nice older house and all solar powered. The room was warm and fresh for us when we arrived. In the room hangs a note on the wall telling a worth knowing about the area (also about the freely accessible glowworm caves nearby, which unfortunately we did not visit due to the bad weather) and generally Donald was very hospitable and gave us some more Tips for our further journey. In the morning after getting up, the table was already set for our breakfast. Had a really great stay here. Thank you :)

    Valentina2019-06-04T00:00:00Z
  • Donald was quite lovely and made us feel at home right away. Took us on a quick jaunt to see glow worms on his property which was so cool and his dog Sidney is super cute. Made us tea and coffee with a light breakfast in the AM with honey from his farm. Lovely night!

Nestled perfectly at the waters edge of theTasman sea, with direct access to the beach is my rustic bach.. Snuggle warmly inside by the coal range with a book, or be mesmerised by the power of the ocean waves pounding a few meters from the deck. Enjoy plunger coffee on the house or bring your own NZ wine. Memories are made here.. With stunning views from both inside and out, you can indulge in the magic of West Coast sunsets, dolphins swimming past on a calm day and penguins nesting nearby.
  • It's obvious that Murray gave every little touch in this place with much love. We love it to bits! Unlimited WiFi in the middle of nowhere is totally appreciated. The quality pots & pans, plates & cutlery, lovely grounded coffee with decent size of plunger for 4 of us. Proper gas stove and electronic oven. Decent shower and good quality fittings, even a shower dome to avoid condensation! Bugs screen on all windows are much appreciated! Decent information of how to get there via message, book with complete guide, including picture on how to operate the heating.. friendly, laid back & unobtrusive communication. Murray's place and his hospitality exceed our expectations! We would definitely love to come back again, thanks for sharing this lovely place with us! Warm regards, Tina & Andrew, Dessi & Victor

  • We loved everything about this place. This is slice of paradise. Located directly on the beach you can enjoy breathtaking scenery and listen to roaring waves. This bach is spacious, clean and comfortable. We only regret we didn’t stay here longer.

  • Incredible location right on the ocean, with beautiful private beach in both directions, the sound of the surf a constant companion. A special place.

    Robin2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful little beach house with a view of the sea (no bathing beach / very rough coast). Great terrace to enjoy the view. Kitchen is well equipped and offers everything you need. For us it was the ideal stopover to relax a bit during our tour.

    Lena2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • A true kiwi bach on an iconic West Coast location. Truly outstanding in terms of location, accessibility and serenity. My only regret is not enjoying it with my wife. We will be back!

    Dion2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • There are three bachs that share this stunning location and Murray is the best, by FAR. It is the perfect mix of old and new and is truly spectacular. The small touches are really lovely too i.e recommendations, coffee satchets etc. The accommodation itself has absolutely everything you need and you don't want for anything. We spent Valentines weekend here and it was glorious. It's a real treat to wake up and be able to see the ocean that lulls you to sleep at night. Remember the insect repellent because Coast sandflies are brutal. Other than that, if you're sitting on the fence, just book! You won't regret it. Thanks Murray, Awhina and Tom.

    Awhina2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had wonderful two days in Murrays house. The view on the ocean is so brilliant, that we wished to stay longer. The beds are comfortable and we liked the wooden floor and the old wooden table. Thank you

  • I spent one night with Sharon and Gregg and i just loved it! The place is extraordinary. Very quiet and in the middle of pure nature. With an outstanding ecological well thoughtthrough and conscious concept, that i will take home with me to make the world just a little better. Sharon is a wonderful host and lovely to talk to, which makes a stay with them so precious and inspiring. The compost toilets are really great, just like the outdoor warm showers and the cosy kitchen lounge. Everything is there and provided: solar lamps, rain boots, umbrellas, hot water bottles, tips for travelling, anything, you name it. You will just feel like home, it really is an indulging experience. And my bed in the lodge was super comfi. Steeples Cottage offers stunning ocean views overlooking the Tasman Sea. Watch the waves crash against the iconic Steeples rocks. Beaches, Seal Colony/Lighthouse Walkway, surfing, golf course on doorstep. Great garden setting. Nature in abundance! Watch the sunset over the ocean from the hut on the cliff. Full Kitchen and Bathroom facilities. Free WiFi. Off street parking. Continental Breakfast foods provided, including fresh eggs, and in season tomatoes. Enjoy the wonderful sea air!
Perfect destination for an adventure with nature, or just relax and take in the magnificent views.
There are several homestay accommodations along Lighthouse Road, with the well known Lighthouse Walkway at the end of the road. Steeples Cottage is a-top a cliff, overlooking Gibsons Beach, the iconic Steeples rock formation and the Tasman Sea. The "local" Star Tavern is 400m along the road, with a great range of good food, including take-outs. Lighthouse Road runs along the Headland at Cape Foulwind, with Steeples Cottage a peaceful, quiet, relaxing accommodation in a unique community.
  • If you're staying near Cape Foulwind or Westport - you should consider Wendy's vacation home. It sits on the bluff immediately over the sea with a gorgeous garden space to enjoy the view (which is great from inside the house, too)! Easy check-in, kind hosts, and a great walk to the Star Cafe for a meal or Cape Foulwind Lighthouse for a long stroll. Book it!

    Danny2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fabulous night at Steeples Cottage, and wished we could have stayed longer. The cottage has the most amazing views and is nestled in a beautiful garden. We ended up buying some food and wine to have at the cottage and made the most of the views, sitting in the ‘man cave’ area to get the final rays of sunshine. The cottage itself is huge and well equipped, and Wendy had left us fresh eggs, milk, bread, jam coffee etc so we had everything we needed for breakfast. She also gave us some great local recommendations including to visit the seal colony which we did and loved. Overall we had a fabulous stay and the icing on the cake was the big white dog on site - Izzi - who came over to say hi. We would highly recommend this cottage.

    Clementine2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing view!! Cottage is well equipped with an outstanding location. We walked 5 minutes to the Star Tavern for dinner. Then caught the sunset at the lighthouse down the road. Great stay!! Would definitely recommend and will stay again if we make it back to the area.

  • We had a wonderful time at Wendy and Wayne's place. The cottage is very well equipped with all the amenities and the view is amazing. Everything was sparkling clean and it was very quite. Wendy and Wayne and Izzy their dog are very nice host and will make sure you have everything you need. The provided breakfast was an excellent idea and we really appreciated it!

  • Very nice Place, wonderfull Garden and view. Everything was Perfect!

    Petra2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • Our one regret about Steeples Cottage was not staying there for longer. I guess like many travelers before us Cape Foul Wind was a one night stop on the way to somewhere else. We could have happily spent our whole New Zealand trip here! The cottage is perfect the garden amazing and the'Lookout' is a super place to watch the ocean from. There is a lovely beach just down the road and the seal colony is well worth a visit with the bonus of an ice cream after your walk. We are already planning our next NZ trip and a stay at Steeples Cottage for at the very least three nights will be high on the list of 'must dos'.

    Judy2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • Had one really lovely night at Steeples Cottage . It’s spacious, comfortable, clean and is situated in a beautiful garden with stunning views over the sea . Lots of great spots in the garden to enjoy the views and a glass of wine ! We cooked dinner in the cottage , ate it in the garden and then walked to local pub and enjoyed a drink with the very friendly staff .Also enjoyed a chat with Wendy in the garden . Overall a highly recommended stay .

Fox River is 5 minutes away, (4.5 km), where each Sunday, over the summer, there is a local market day, crafts, food etc.
All cooking utensils supplied. Tea, coffee and sugar supplied. Cook own meals. Electric stove, microwave, fridge/freeze and heat pump. PLEASE NOTE, the water supply is drawn from a local waterfall. You may wish to bring bottled water for drinking. At times the Wi Fi can be slow. The TV is Free View.
Pancake Rocks is 15 minutes drive. Seal Colony is 30 minutes drive. Cave rafting and train ride at Charleston, 15 minutes drive. Amazing sunsets.
  • Lovely place looking out over the sea. Felt like being at home. Wish we had stayed longer.

  • This place was wonderful but in a very homey way. Where I’m from we call this kind of place “camp.” Don’t expect to find a fancy year round home. This is an older seasonal place with all the basic comforts of home in a well loved interior set in a breathtakingly beautiful setting. You can see and hear the crashing surf from the living room. We loved it!

    Lisa2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Very comfortable space, great location, excellent view. Lots of recommendations on things to do in the area. Fresh muffins on arrival were a nice touch!

  • This is a quirky Bach which was super clean with good amenities. Great host and nice homey touches such as home made muffins and fresh fruit selection. Opposite the ocean so went to sleep to sound of waves crashing on the beach. It’s remote and I loved it

    Amanda2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful view from a quaint cottage. Great host and wonderful setting.

    David2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We’ve stayed in many Airbnbs and this was our favourite. It was homey, comfortable, and everything we could have needed was provided. Also, the setting, overlooking a gorgeous garden and across the road from the ocean, was unbeatable. We fell asleep at night to the peaceful sound of the waves. Shirley and Andy are great hosts. Highly recommended.

    Marsha2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • The place is lovely and the view amazing. We really enjoyed our stay and if we would have more time to travel new zealand, we would definitely have stayed longer. Shirley is a perfect host, she provided us with travel tips and her apple muffins were yummy. Thank you very much Shirley.

  • It's a great house in an awesome location from great hosts with lots and lots of nice details. It was definitely one of the best accommodations we've had in New Zealand. We enjoyed the Cape Foulwind and the house that much so that we extended our stay even another accommodation was already booked for our trip. You can enjoy beautiful sunsets and the local surf school West Coast Surf is just awesome. 5 Stars! Well Done!

    Irina2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • A piece of luxury on our journey. A great place to take a short trip to see the seals, the sunset and the incredible scenery. Walking 10 km to the lighthouse was a wonderful experience. We enjoyed and relaxed.

  • Great place for a quiet getaway away from the bustle of the city.

    Dallas2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Out the Bay is a rare treasure if you are seeking solitude in an outstanding setting. The bach itself has everything you need except wifi and really do you need that? Unplug and enjoy the crashing waves of Tauranga Bay. Plan your meals so you don’t have to leave!! We will return.

There are two simple cabins that share a separate kitchen and bathroom. There is open wifi and 12volt lighting. Our property has an interesting history and we are off the grid with solar power. due to covid the entire place will be yours
Here you are nestled in true rough and ready kiwi style living. Light the outside fire and watch the stars. Wander to the bottom of the drive and see the glow worms.
There are.plenty of nearby beautiful spaces, beaches and walks. Feel free to ask 9km south is the pancake rocks
  • We absolutely loved everything about our stay, the view, the cabin, the place, the coffee and most of all the wonderful hosts Lee and Andrew! Thank you so much for having us we will definitely try to come back, and at full moon, as Andrew recommended ;)

    Paul2020-03-20T00:00:00Z

  • We spent a wonderful two days at the Tui Cabins. We appreciated all the local knowledge shared by our hosts and we were able to make the most of our time in the area. Beautiful sunsets, rustic, yet comfortable, outdoor living spaces and even glow worms in close proximity were some of the highlights. Our hosts went out of their way to make us feel welcome and shared their love of the area with us.

Welcome Bay Lodge, hand-crafted from massive local timbers, is a very private, ocean-front bach, with a touch of elegance. We recently upgraded the property adding an upstairs bathroom and high-quality furniture and linens. Superbly located near Punakaiki, Welcome Bay Lodge affords easy access to a wide range of activities. Please ensure that your booking reflects the number of guests staying. Please note, we do not allow children under 12. Thank you.
We stayed at Welcome Bay Lodge twice before purchasing the property and it is indeed a very special place. The crunch of gravel as you leave the highway and follow the unsealed road to the lodge really drives home the feeling of being 'away from it all' The massive exposed timbers of the Lodge and the design resembles a cozy mountain chalet in the Alps. A glass of wine in the loft area watching the sun set over the sea is absolute perfection. Open a window at night and be lulled to sleep by the incessant waves rolling in. Grill up your favourite foods on the BBQ and enjoy a sea-side meal on the hefty wood picnic table just a few metres from our beach. After dinner, shift over to the fire pit and enjoy the evening!
There are a handful of year-round residents nearby but for the most part the Beach Road area is dominated by a number of small farms. It is very quiet. Supplies: The nearby town of Charleston does not have grocery or convenience stores so it is essential that you stock up on food and drink in Westport, a 15-minute drive from Welcome Bay Lodge. There is a large New World grocery store in Westport. If you are approaching Charleston from the south, you have the option of stopping in Greymouth (90km from Welcome Bay Lodge) and shopping at New World or Countdown Telecoms: Welcome Bay Lodge is located in a remote area of the West Coast so there is not mobile coverage on the property. You can pick up reception in the small town of Charleston, just a few minutes drive from the Lodge. We do however have reliable internet and there are landlines on both floors of the residence. There is a TV in the lounge that has Netflix as well as an HDMI3 cable so you can connect it to the internet via a laptop and stream other content. Or just unplug the TV and get away from it all :)
  • My group and I had an incredible stay at Paul & Jo's place. The decor was stunning, it was on an incredible spot on the beach, and was also very very clean! This is a great spot for a getaway. There's really no reason to go far once you check-in. We also checked out the lagoon and another beach on the same street, and they were fantastic. Paul was awesome for all communications as well! Couldn't rave about this place enough.

    Catherine2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful spot to relax and unwind. Once we got there we didn’t want to leave. It’s a great space and we had fun wandering on the beach and watching the waves crash on the rocks.

    JoEllen2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • Paul and Jo's place is the perfect secluded getaway. Remote but still within an easy drive of Westport, the house is cost, extremely well appointed and an ideal retreat for relaxing and unwinding. Very easy access to the beach for walks, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

    Michelle2020-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • The house is right by the beach with nobody else. Lovely log house with lots of amazing interiors to make us feel special. We cooked our own meal everyday and had beer in the lounge with spectacular wild west coast ocean view and also on the picnic table right by the beach watching the beautiful sunset. We really enjoyed our stay here and would like to come back again.

    Ai2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • One of the best AIrBB's I have ever stayed at! Beautiful Modern House right on a beautiful Beach. Can watch the sunset over the Ocean from the balcony every day. 3 nice bedrooms and 2 nice bathrooms. Very Quiet and Peaceful.

    Roger2019-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Paul & Jo’s place is magical! You can’t get much closer to the beach than this place. It is very remote with the closest town having a population of 60; however, we didn’t seem to mind as we didn’t leave leave for our whole visit. I was sad our stay wasn’t longer! Truly a special place with a practically private beach (only a few houses nearby). The kitchen had all the basics to cook with. Hope to return to this place again! Highly recommend!

LONG-STAY AVAILABLE - Please ask. With te tūtū/the full tide lapping at your feet, you can't get any closer to the beautiful Tasman Sea. This is an authentic, rustic Kiwi bach. Largely unchanged since mid last century, the bach is loaded with character and quirky features. Unplugged - there is currently no phone, internet or cell coverage, but WIFI hotspot nearby.
A log burning fire will keep you toasty warm in winter, dry firewood is provided during winter months, and an electric heater all year round - just in case. Te Tūtū Bach is one of just three small holiday baches sharing this amazing location perched on the edge of the wild West Coast wilderness.
Located just above the high tide mark, this bach enjoys stunning 180-degree views of the coast. At low tide, you can walk for kilometres along the beach, at high tide watch big waves crashing at your feet. Equally satisfying during a sunny blue-sky day or during a famous wild West Coast storm! The location is remote and wild.
  • Woodpecker Bay bach is an outstanding experience if you want to be away from it all & immerse yourself in nature. With all the comforts of home that you need, and the spectacular location it has become a favourite place to stay. Daniel is an exceptional host making sure you have the best experience possible.

  • Te Tutu Bach is a gorgeous place to relax. The sunset is stunning... If you catch a clear sunny day 😊as I did! The Sunday Fox River Market a great place to meet local relaxed people. 4 nights was definitly too short. Highly recommended.

    Anke2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic location and view. Very comfortable bed, excellent shower and very well equipped for a small place. Throughly recommended but beware of the sandflies!

    Jackie2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Remarkable accommodation. First it is a beautiful place, a few kms from spectacular trails, with a superb sunset and we even saw dolphins from the terrace. But it is especially super well equipped for a place so far from everything! A great shower with hot water and pressure, a kitchen with everything you need from a knife that cuts to the brand new fridge freezer, and comfortable bedding. All that's missing is internet access and we were making it our new office!

    Nicolas2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing location..... perfect if you want to have some time off grid and a little nostalgia right next to the ocean! :)

    Russ2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Loved the location right on the beach with views of the beach from the porch and the livingroom and kitchen. Beautiful sunset walks were had. The beds were amazing and we all slept well. The shower is large and much enjoyed after a hard day of hiking. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook our meals and the coffee provided was much appreciated. Daniel made his place unique with decorations and personal touches. The bach was close to all the hikes we wanted to do. I must say though that the sand flies were not our favorites there but we were warned and were, for the most part, ready for them. I would highly recommend this quaint little place.

  • Just as we expected, in fact the decor is fabulous. Very stylish and comfortable. Extremely comfortable bed. Everything we wanted and great outlook over to the reserve and beach area. Great fish and chips just a few doors away - we chose to get takeouts but a lovely outdoor or indoor area for eating there. Friendly host. Nice to walk along the beach although a little windy so not for too long!! Would definitely recommend and stay again.

  • Very comfortable modern apartment, fantastic location opposite the beautiful Carter's beach which goes for miles, if you enjoy walking or running on the sand, it's an awesome location. Also very close to seal colony, cliffs with birds and lighthouse. Great for visiting the sights of the wild west coast. Very friendly hosts, would highly recommend.

  • Decor is exceptional modern and very classy uptown. You can hear the waves crashing from your patio. Fabulous bed and linens.

    Carrie2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Our friendly and helpful hosts Richard and Isabelle have worked hard to create a trendy, spacious and spotlessly clean unit for their guests. The bed must get special mention for it’s beautiful high quality linen and unbelievable comfort. Location is ideal - being across the road from the beach and handy to Westport and surrounding attractions too

    Chris2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Richard’s place was perfect. The place is fabulous - expertly fitted out with all the right amenities including an incredibly comfy bed and couch. We loved watching Netflix each night over wine and cheese. The views of the water were amazing and being able to pop across the road to the beach was just the cherry on top. Both Richard and his wife are also amazing hosts and made us feel incredibly welcome. The place is also just a quick drive to town for the grocery shop, but luckily enough, there was even a fabulous restaurant with a dairy just a 2 minute walk away. Highly recommend this spot, if we are ever back in the area, we will most definitely hope Richard’s place is available to stay. Enjoy! :)

  • I'm an Airbnb Plus homeowner and I have to say this was the best experience. Natalya was an amazing hostess, she was always there to answer any questions and the home was fantastic. Her homemade muffins were probably the best I've ever eaten. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

    Terry2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely wonderful, very clean space. Natalya is a great host with plenty of tips for what to do in the surrounding area. Gorgeous views and very modern interior. Would definitely recommend!

    Zoe2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful house, big king bed, very spacious, clean and amazing view. In house washing machine and dryer are great bonus. Natalya is very helpful and friendly. Perfect location to stay after 4 hour caving tour near by.

    Ivan2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Natalya’s place is absolutely lovely, inside and out! The inside is spacious, welcoming, lovely decor — and Natalya had provided special touches of fresh-cut flowers and strawberries from her garden! The exterior is beautifully landscaped from the moment you turn in the gate and start down the driveway — and then there’s the outside patio and views once you get to the house! Natalya makes sure guests have everything needed: a fully equipped kitchen, a comfy bed, great shower, detailed info on how everything works. She was in touch with us the day before we arrived, gave us clear directions, personally welcomed us when we arrived, and shared info about the area as well as what to expect on our drive the next day — truly a Superhost! Loved talking with her, loved staying at her place, wish we could stayed longer!

    Marilyn2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Natalya is such a warm and friendly host. Lovely, comfortable property which is very well equipped with everything you would need. Great accommodation, lovely location. Natalya provided us with so much information on what to do in the local area, we stayed here for 2 nights and there was plenty to keep us busy.

    Suzanne2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed one night at Natalya’s place. Clean and spacious with a well equipped kitchen, that we didn’t use. Extremely private with a gorgeous view. A very thoughtful compendium was useful. Natalya’s charming and welcomed us with homemade treats. Slept like a baby in the comfortable king size bed. We left a charger and she let me know before I knew it and couriered it to my house within 24 hours! We’d recommend staying here and look forward to staying again. Hostess with a capital H.

    Clare2020-01-08T00:00:00Z

  • Tony’s place is lovely and the room is really spacious. Breakfast is included for free with an option of a cooked breakfast on one of the mornings which was such a treat! Perfect location for exploring Westport and the surrounding areas. If you want to try surfing in Westport (would highly recommend) then you can walk to Bazil’s hostel and surf school from Tony’s place. It is also only a 20 minute drive to Tauranga Bay seal colony which was amazing!

  • Very welcoming hosts, exceptional value for money and a stylish home with a little history thrown in. Tony’s cooked breakfast was just the ticket to set us off on our Old Ghost Road ride.

  • Clean and quiet place. Nice host, clear house rules, perfect location on the way to Westport. We booked the same evening just a few hours before arrival and were given smooth check-in, fresh bed linens and duvet. The kitchen is closed around 10:30 pm but since the check-in is until 9 pm we had enough time to prep and have our dinner.

  • Really nice and quiet place to stay whilst you’re on the road and all you want is a good night of rest and sleep before your next adventure in New Zealand. Graeme was a lovely host, providing us extra duvets as soon as we requested it. All the facilities are nice and clean and they make sure that after a certain time there is no much activity going around to make sure everybody has a restful time.

    Mariana2018-11-21T00:00:00Z
  • The place is clean and 30 minutes drive to Punakaki. It’s good to stop by before traveling around.

  • A wonderful place to stay whilst on the west coast! The communal areas were lovely and the rooms were so cosy and comfortable. We really liked all of the thoughtful touches, and the rooms and lodge were beautifully decorated, making it a very special place to stay. We wish we could have stopped longer!

    Sophie2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Beaconstone EcoLodge is truly a unique and character filled place. Our very private mountain view cabin was a delight. In the main lodge, we curled up with books on the comfortable settles, and enjoyed the other guests. The kitchen was complete and spacious to prepare our meals. The eco showers and toilets were excellent. Being nestled in the natural New Zealand coastal forest made our visit a unique NZ experience. A priceless memory.

    Alan2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic stay at a beautiful lodge, easily the best place we stayed in on our way through New Zealand. I could have very happily stayed a day just in the beautiful surroundings, exploring down to the river and sitting in the main lodge reading and enjoying the beautiful space they’ve created. The room itself is detached from the main lodge so you might get a bit wet on the way to and from the toilets, kitchen and communal spaces if the weather’s bad, but it’s only maybe 15m away, and on the other hand very private and cosy for it. It’s simply something to bear in mind since there are also other rooms in the main lodge on offer too if you think you would prefer that. Sharon and Greg themselves are wonderful hosts and give lots of great advice about things to do.

    Sam2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This place is great and the hospitality of the host is exceptional. Quiet, clean and well equipped, We do refer that place to anyone, we had a great stay !

  • Quaint off-grid home in a quiet and remote location. Lovely and memorable stay.

    Jp2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • Best Airbnb / eco-lodge I've stayed at in new Zealand. The house is off the grid and is an amazingly comfortable place to stay. Surrounded by green land, off the beaten track, this is a gem. Greg is a wonderful host as well, always responsive and even got the woodfire in before I arrived to get the house warm. Highly recommended to stay here.

    Jeroen2019-12-17T00:00:00Z
  • Super cute and cosy lodge perfect for a rainy night in. The walk to the river is definitely worth doing and gum boots are even provided for you :)

Modern kitchen with tea and fresh coffee provided. Comfortable leather lounge sweet. Queen bedroom with French doors opening to a large deck facing north, the queen bed has a quality mattress fresh laundered linen and towels provided. 5 minutes walk to Truman Track and stunning Truman beach.
Modern Kitchen - Tiled shower and hand crafted bathroom - Quality Queen mattress linen and duvet - Beautiful bush setting very private - BBQ outside.
  • Very cool spot hidden in the forest! We loved staying here and if we were kiwis, would definitely return for many long weekends. It's a great getaway spot. The "secret" path down to the Truman track and beach is very cool so don't miss it! Not many places to eat nearby, so it's a good plan to bring groceries in and cook! Also, we were very entertained with a weka or two on the property that kept an eye on us. Such funny birds!

    Samantha2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely house in a great spot. Recommend it

    Tim And Nina2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Stunningly beautiful location! The little walk to the Truman Track and local beach is magical! We lucked out with gorgeous weather but the chalet was comfortable with everything we needed. Julie was always quick to respond. Loved our visit to the Pancake Rocks as well! A highlight of our road trip for sure!

    Kaleigh2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely private hideway nestled in rainforest

    Colin2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Love this place! Very private and can hear the ocean. Would have loved to stay longer.

    Katie2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • I would highly recommend staying at Paparoa Whare if you will be staying in the Punakaiki area. The location was great - close to the Pancake Rocks and many other great nearby walks/hikes. The chalet is near the main road and a few other accommodations, but is very peaceful and secluded, so it feels like your own little private paradise! There are two very nice decks and a grill, so you can relax and enjoy the beautiful nature all around you. We had a friendly weka (native bird) visit us a few times during our stay :) Also, from the bedroom window, you can look up and see the stars on a clear night. If you'll be staying long enough, getting groceries from nearby Greymouth or Charleston would be a good idea, so you can prepare meals there. We wish we could have stayed longer as it was an ideal place to get away from it all but still have everything you need!

    Kelli2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our stay! Definitely one of our favourite accommodations on our roadtrip from Auckland to Queenstown. The space has everything you could need - we especially enjoyed barbecuing dinner on the deck and exploring the beach (only a quick walk)! The space was sparkling clean and full of windows, offering so much natural light. It felt like our own private oasis! Would recommend in a heartbeat!

    Rebecca2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Julie’s place is an incredible experience during our stay in New Zealand- we absolutely loved being so close to Truman Track (awesome views of the beach) and the house itself is beautiful! We loved being able to dine on the porch and enjoy the surroundings after a day out. I would certainly recommend!

Due to theses difficult times we have changed our space. These 2 cabins kitche, and bathroom are self contained and stand alone so you can maintain isolation. With the area we live in you can still do bush and beach walks. 35 min drive to westport Open wifi and 12volt lighting.Just 9kms from the famous Pancake Rocks at Punakaiki, a short walk or shorter drive to the beach, edging lovely native NZ bush and spectacular coastlines . Friendly wekas, chickens, bees, dog and owner.
Cosy insulated cabin with double bed and couch. Verandah to enjoy sea, bush, birds and sunset. Outside burner for atmosphere and warmth .
Breathtaking views of the Tasman Sea, within a stone's throw (all right, possibly a wee bit further than that) of the beach, native birds will wander into your cabin if you leave the door open (best not to)... great little community market on Sundays in Summer. And Punakaiki just down the road is rightly famous on the NZ tourist circuit. Spectacular coastlines that are worth exploring.
  • Andrew has been such a fantastic, warm and welcoming host. He made me and my friend feel at home and at ease. He shared wonderful stories and so many great local tips! The pancakes he makes are nothing short of legendary. Thank you so much, Andrew, we will come back for sure!

    Nikolai2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • This is place has everything we needed and the host is very nice. The bed is comfortable. We had a nice stay.

    Bei2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Friend, this is it. Hit that RESERVE switch and get on with your life. Andrew is a thoughtful, easy-going West Coaster whose actions as a host are guided by a genuine empathy for his guests. He’s got an infectious smile and just the sweetest way about him. He is one of those people you meet “on the road” who you are not likely to forget. The facilities at the cabins are somewhat rustic, yes - these are cabins, after all - but I don’t know of any other “off the grid”, solar-powered Airbnb that actually has reliable hot water around the clock.. and the bed was comfy and the fridge and stove work, and the cabin was totally clean, so it was pretty perfect if you ask me. Do yourself a favor and book yourself a couple of nights (or months?) at Andrew’s spot. And find the Pancake Guy one morning and order a stack of banana. This truly was a peaceful and magical experience. NOTE: the sandflies are not terrible at the cabins, but they are present. Bring bug spray. And bring food to cook and wine to drink (stock up in Greymouth if you’re coming from the South) - there are limited dining options around the area.

    Michael2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Andrew received us very well and by talking to him we learned a lot. Expect an (almost) private luxury campsite: very good bedding in a small cabin with awning, shared kitchen with basic but welcoming equipment and comfortable table, spacious shower, clean toilets (flush). Very well located for a superb walk in Pororari (9 km). Very good value for money.

    Wendy2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Interesting accommodation very close nature:). Very good energy in apartment, I slept like baby :D

  • What an unbelievable visit. Lee and Andrew are seriously fantastic hosts. The room is clean and cosy, as are the bathroom and kitchen. The place just has an amazing vibe and waking up to the ocean is pretty beautiful. Great people to chat with, and the coffee on the house the next morning was the icing on the cake!

  • This was honestly the nicest AirBnb I've stayed in till now! The house was absolutely beautiful, extremely clean and the interior was very chic. My boyfriend and I loved it so much that we spontaneously decided to book another night which worked out just fine. If we had stayed nearby for longer, we definitely would've booked more nights - highly recommend!

    Davina-Ysabel2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay here was excellent. Great views and amenities and super clean. Also has a lot of board games to keep us occupied in wet weather- was a big plus!

    Carly2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • We booked a room and no one else checked in so we got the common areas to ourselves. Suzanne was great with comms late at night to help us turn the heat pump on. The house was spotless and so great to stay there. Didn't take long for us to see surf, seals and sunset in one evening. Thanks for having us!

    Bernie2019-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • We were amazed and positively surprised by the amazing location (quiet charming spot with beautiful beach and direct access), and the house itself is outstanding! All new, very clean, well decorated and equiped. Expansive views through the French doors facing the beach and sunset. That's the perfect romantic spot! Comfy bed, nice outdoor area. I even went for a swim in the morning. Loved it! One of the best Airbnb (if not the best) we've been in NZ!
