"The Hide" is a cosy, handcrafted cabin nestled on a slope with stunning views towards Glenveagh National Park. Just fifteen minutes drive from The Wild Atlantic Way makes The Hide ideal for a peaceful retreat or a great base for exploring Donegal.
The cabin is a cosy, self contained space, designed and made by Pete to make the most of our beautiful mountain views. We have both enjoyed decorating the space with as many handcrafted, reclaimed and up-cycled items as possible. As you enter The Hide you will find a wood burning stove in the centre of the cabin, alcove double bed with curtains and blinds to the right and a small bathroom behind the bed. A couch against the centre back wall allows guests to avail of the fire and the tranquil views through the double doors onto the deck. To the left is the kitchen area with a four ring electric hob, combined oven, grill and microwave and fridge with freezer compartment. Guests have access to a washing machine and dryer in a nearby outbuilding. The space is heated by the wood-burning stove with fuel provided. The private decked area with seating, table and barbecue is to the front. Guest access is via a private gravel path behind our own traditional cottage which leads to the cabin. If The Hide is unavailable for the dates you are interested in, please check out our other listings. The Cow Shed is a little converted byre at the opposite end of our house from the cabin. The Birdbox is our little handcrafted treehouse nestled in mature trees behind The Cow Shed.
We are centrally located in a beautiful part of Donegal, close to most of its attractions. The cabin is nestled in a valley 3 km from the scenic village of Fintown. The river Finn is known widely for its salmon and trout fishing and permits are available locally for fly-fishing. In Fintown village, you will find the only operational narrow gauge railway in Donegal. It runs for 5 km beside Lough Finn, which is overlooked by Aghla and Scraig mountains. The local village has a shop, pubs, church, school, health centre and library. The towns of Glenties, Dungloe, Ballybofey and Letterkenny are 15 minutes, 15 minutes, 25 minutes and 30 minutes drives respectively. There you will find restaurants, pubs and supermarkets. There are many stunning beaches within a 30 minute drive, offering beautiful walks and a choice of sports such as kayaking, surfing, golf and horse-riding, all of which we can help you to organise.
  • Cabin is exactly as advertised. We really enjoyed our stay.

  • Anna and Pete’s ‘The Hide’ couldn’t have been more perfect. From Anna’s hospitality to the location, it was beautiful from the minute we arrived! The Hide is the perfect getaway spot and I can’t wait to book it again!

  • Pete and Anna are fantastic hosts! Their hospitality made the trip even more enjoyable. The cottage is lovely and the views are amazing. It has everything you could ask for. I cannot recommend staying here enough!

  • Incredible visit in every way

    Tom2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We were so impressed with this cosy and really well equipped cabin, with its stunning views and thoughtful little touches such as plenty of books and an iPod with speakers to listen to music. The cabin has everything you could need to have a relaxing stay - even in the snow we managed to stay toasty warm with the fire burning. Also really enjoyed a long walk in the nearby Glenveagh National Park and a lovely pint of Guinness in the local pub in Fintown. Really hope to be back in the future!

    Alice2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had the most amazing time here! Pete and Anna couldn't have been more welcoming and had thought of every little detail. The views are spectacular and sitting in front of the wood burner was bliss especially with the hail and rain outside. We will certainly be back 😁

    Rebekah2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • A little piece of creative beauty, carefully crafted in the natural beauty of the Co.Donegal landscape. A credit to its owners. This place inspires creativity, evokes wonder and brings happiness to all who are lucky enough to experience it. Forever grateful to Anna and Pete for allowing us to share their beautiful extended home🥰🌟

  • This was one of the nicest places we've ever stayed. The views were just incredible. It was a great opportunity to switch off and relax. I would highly reccommend this to anyone. Thanks again xx

  • An amazing space in stunning scenery. Get away from everything with no phone signal just we needed. Space is amazing with everything you could need and the Spotify playlists are amazing!

  • We have stayed in Donegal many times over the course of 30+ years and this is by far the best place either of us has ever stayed. Anna and Pete are the perfect hosts; enthusiastic, warm and friendly. The wood burning stove was lit before our arrival, so the cottage was cosy, even in 2 degrees! The cottage exceeded all of our expectations; far bigger than it seemed from the pictures, super cosy, spotlessly clean and full of character. The views from the cottage are incredible, even with snow, storms, hailstones, and lightening! We loved staying here, cooking, listening to music, drinking wine, taking drives to spectacular wild beaches, and enjoying watching the ever changing weather from the comfort of this cosy little cottage. We will definitely be back.

    Laura2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic little place in Co. Donegal. Pete was an excellent host, and talked us through everything that the cottage had to offer. Even in February it was a great place to stay, and I would reccomend it to anyone looking for a quiet getaway away from the world. Thank you Pete and Anna!

    Adele2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay! Cosy and comfortable with lovely personal touches. Stunning scenery. Pete and Anna were warm and welcoming. Also very accommodating and flexible - communication was great! Highly recommend for couples/friends looking for quiet get away in rural Ireland.

  • You read the reviews and have an idea in your head what to expect but Pete and Anna will blow them out of the water. You couldn’t ask for more hospitable hosts. The cottage is so cosy and ab escape from the outside world. From books and DVDs to Spotify playlists made for you, Pete and Anna thought of everything!

  • Beautiful place to escape to. With no phone signal its amazing to just take in the mountain area inside the cozy cottage.

    Tracy2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay in the cottage. It more than matched our expectations, of a cozy get away in February!

    Katie2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • One of the best Airbnb experiences we’ve had. Anna + Pete are the perfect hosts, quick with local advice, firewood and bottled water, and friendly chat. The views from the cottage are incredible, even with thunderstorms and heavy snow! The space is far bigger than we anticipated, with wood burner, electric shower, and all kitchen amenities we needed. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

The view from the picture window was fantastic, watching the Donegal weather blow by. The fire provided enough heat for the entire cottage, providing a cosy environment. The perfect get away.

"The Swallow's Nest" – A unique and thoughtfully renovated stone shed which accommodates up to two people and offers a completely peaceful and relaxing break in the hills of Donegal. Private entrance and secluded location. Available for single nights between two existing bookings. Please enquire.
“The best place to sleep in Donegal." Eli Gothill The Swallow's Nest So named after the swallows which nested here year upon year until renovation work started in October 2014, this compact and tastefully renovated accommodation started life as a humble cow byre. It is approximately 200 years old, and stands apart from the main cottage with its own private driveway, entrance and deck. It overlooks a grassy meadow dotted with sheep. The unit consists of one central living space with kitchen area, simple furniture and a bathroom. The king size bed is up on a sleeping mezzanine which affords spectacular views over the meadow and hills beyond. Heating is from a wood-burning stove with small portable radiant heater for occasional use. The kitchen comprises a sink, gas hob, small electric oven and fridge. The Swallow's Nest is essentially for couples and offers a truly romantic and peaceful retreat - somewhere where you can literally ‘shed your life' and relax. It is unsuitable for children and infants because of several safety concerns, such as the height of the mezzanine. It comes with all linen, towels, basic toiletries, freshly baked scones and some cooking essentials. The basket of scones, butter and jam are a welcome gift and are not supplied on a daily basis, unless requested and for a small extra charge. A towel refresh/drying service is offered for those guests staying longer than a few days.
I live in a secluded and private location with complete tranquility, yet am surrounded by very caring and helpful neighbours. This sort of sums up Donegal : peace where you want it and help when needed. Add to this the stunning coast line and mountains, walking opportunities and great wealth of traditional music, the pubs and their people and you have a place I call home. - a little slice of heaven.
  • We had an idyllic stay in a timeless haven of peace. The setting is sublime, the countryside, the mountain and the coast offering views all the more beautiful than the other, with easy access to hikes in almost immaculate magical places (we were not transported). Allaye is a wonderful host, thanks for the scones, music and conversation. Good continuation !

    Léandre2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • My mother and partner loved spending her 50th birthday weekend at Allaye's property. They felt very at home and loved the quirky touches to the rooms. The property was easily accessible, and there were lots of lovely spots to visit in the surrounding area. Allaye is a great host and very quick with responses. They would love to return again someday. Thank you Allaye for their stay!

    Chelsea2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The rustic, private, and cozy space was a perfect place to stay and explore Donegal. The wood stove kept us warm all night (in spite of the cold and rainy weather) and added to our sense of adventure. We really felt that we were away from it all.

    Susan2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely two night stay at the Swallows Nest. The cottage is perfectly equipped with everything needed for a short, cosy stay. The bed was very comfortable and waking up to the sound of rain on the roof and the view out across the countryside was ideal. Allaye is a great host who met us on arrival and ensured we had everything needed for our trip including loan of a wee guitar and some delicious home made scones. Needless to say, we were sad to leave this morning and would love to return again one day!

    Beth2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Swallow’s Nest is perfect for a weekend away in the mountains. Allaye is a fantastic host and couldn’t be any more accommodating!

  • This is a fantastic little cottage, hidden away off a lane but still only a few minutes' drive to Glenties. It is cosy, comfortable and exactly as described by the great host, Allaye. Thanks for a great stay, and the freshly baked scones on arrival!

  • This is an authentic Irish cottage owned by a charming woman. If you enjoy experiencing "local color", this is the place for you. Allaye is full of great suggestions and love for this area. It would also be quite relaxing to spend the whole day at her cottage taking in the beautiful scenery.

  • This 200 year old cottage was a jewel. And Allaye gave us a printed description of a day tour that all visitors to Ireland must see. The landmarks on the tour are breathtaking! And Lough Anna Cottage is filled with interesting articles, mostly old, I think. Allaye is a delightful host. We fell in love with her! Don’t miss the cottage or the day tour. So memorable! Molly

Step back in time and experience something very unique: A traditional bow top gypsy caravan set in a woodland in the Donegal hills totally off the beaten track. Lovingly restored to a high standard you feel cosy and snug in the midst of nature.
You will find an old horse drawn gypsy wagon which is now set set on a meadow under mature trees. We are a farm producing our own veg and herbs in surrounding gardens. It is a very quiet and peaceful location with streams, lakes and forests all around in the hills of Donegal. The caravan will sleep a family of four: 2 adults and 2 children with two small double beds. The adult bed on top is 6.1 foot (about 1.86m) long, the one below is shorter, about 5 foot long. The caravan is very well insulated and has modern amenities like running water, cooker, fridge, kettle and toaster and can be heated with a modern wall-mounted electric heater with timer which makes it always warm and cosy whatever the weather.
We live about 5km outside the village of Fintown and are linked via a mountainous back-road to the picturesque town of Glenties (half an hour drive). We are surrounded by forests, lakes, streams and rivers on the foot of Aghla mountain. We are located right beside a waymarked walking way called "The Gaeltacht/Sli na Finne Way", which makes it a great place for walking and exploring including lots of other walks and ways right at your doorstep. About half an hours drive from us we have several stunning beaches. The highest cliffs of Europe are nearby as well as Glenveagh National Park. This is also an area well renowned for traditional music. Some famous fiddlers are living nearby and you will find regular traditional music sessions especially in the Glenties area.
  • An amazing little place nested in the middle of wild north west of ireland. Scenery is epic and is like stepping back to calmer times. Marion and Ross are really warm characters and lovely to be around. The wagon is really cozy even in the depths westerly storms and so nice to hear the wind outside when snuggled up inside :)

    Robert2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at the wagon. It's the perfect place to get away from everything and immerse yourself in the beautiful surroundings. The setting couldn't be more idylic. Our three year old loved everything about it! Marion, Declan and their children are the loveliest people and hugely welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. Dinner was delicious. Thanks for the lovely stay and hospitality. We hope to be back!

    Julia2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The wagon was indeed wonderly! It is beautifully decorated and very surprisingly warm - even though it was January and cold outside, we only needed to have the heater on briefly in the evening and the wagon stayed warm all night. There is also a heater in the bathroom, which was plenty warm enough. Our mobile signal was almost non-existent in the wagon and the WiFi wasn't working (note that when it is the data is limited so you can't stream TV / films or anything like that), but this should just be temporary. The location is very secluded and peaceful. Marion and Declan were very friendly hosts and we enjoyed eating the dinner they made for us, followed by playing table football and Cluedo with Fergus. We also loved the Indian runner ducks and the two dogs Winnie and Pablo.

    Beth2020-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • This was an amazing stay! Most unique place I’ve stayed, such a fun adventure. Out in the beautiful mountains too so gorgeous views of the stars and the sunset as we drove away the next morning. Just fantastic experience all around!

    Emily2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay in the waggon, lovely and warm on a cold windy win tees nigh

    Matthew2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great stay in this lovely wagon in the depths of winter, with great peace and quiet and a fantastic welcome from Marion and Declan. They very kindly had me in for dinner and provided plenty of information on the area. The bed was very comfy and the remote location was a great bolt hole for a few days of rest. I’ll be back again with some instruments for one of the famous music sessions in the wagon!

    Richard2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Heavenly place & beautiful people<3 This unique wagon experience was like a time travel. Wagon is just amazing and Marion & Declan are wonderfully caring Hosts. You will find all best things in this magic site. It will make you feel safely snugged by the purest nature.

Kitty's Cottage is a renovated traditional Irish cottage set in a picture postcard setting just outside the small village of Doochary in Co Donegal. The cottage lies near to the magnificent Glenveagh National Park.
Relaxing scenic holiday awaits in beautiful Donegal. Kitty's cottage has a rich history, first built approximately 1904 and renovated 2009. The cottage keeps it's name from the original owner Kate/Kitty Doherty and has always being known locally as kitty's house/cottage.
Beautiful scenery in a relaxing rural retreat but cottage in a location which enables visitors to explore the rest of Donegal easily.
  • We had a lovely time at Kittys cottage. You find everything there you need for a nice holiday, you don't have to worry about anything, and the location is perfect for nice walks and hikes in the area. Definetely recommend it, also for a longer stay!

    Tomma2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • The house was bigger than it looked in the photos. Communication was great, Kathleen got back to us immediately if we needed her. The garden is great, our dogs loved it and there is a walk from the back of the house. The house is in a nice location and we would definitely stay again.

    Abbye2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place to discover the county, the fireplace is a great value, we loved it ! There is everything you need, and even a welcoming gift. We really appreciated our stay :)

    Salomé2020-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in kitty’s cottage for two nights having not wanted to leave donegal. Kathleen was so lovely and accepted my booking straight away. Once we got to the cottage everything was spotless clean and Kathleen left lovely touches that made us feel right at home. The location was beautiful with a view of the mountains surrounded by sheep and our dog absolutely loved it. Lovely stay and great area for a relaxing few days away, would love to return.

    Mel2019-11-21T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely stunning cottage. The photos make this place look great but do not even do it justice. Could not believe how big this place is. Perfect for a get away from the city. Peaceful and tranquil with beautiful surroundings. Even the dog had the best time. Have been getting several questions from friends and family after seeing my photos so have recommended and will definitely be back.

  • Well-what a place!:).....Such amazing value this is a home from home- honestly this is a true Donegal experience and truly one that you will never forget! Jock's Cottage is simply pure class- pure Donegal as they say and Noel, the host is honestly one of the nicest people you will ever meet. This is an ideal location for hill walkers, writers, artists, musicians, couples or families wanting to 'get away from it all', as you will no doubt gain much inspiration and be able to re-generate your batteries by being immersed in the raw beauty of nature when staying here. The traditional white cottage is nestled in the hills just outside Finntown and is steeped in Irish history. The cottage is situated in a beautiful location surrounded by the wild nature of Donegal (and the changing elements of course!) Noel greeted us at the door with a big smile and a warm, glowing cosy open fire-he was a real character full of Irish charm, yarns and craic and he told us a few fascinating stories about the history of the cottage over the years and was always ready with a pot o tea...!!If you are looking for a place to totally chill out in and escape the hustle and bustle of the busy modern world, I highly recommend that you stay here...I came here with my two children and they didn't want to leave the place for the period which we stayed...not even to go to the shop! We did walk up and over the bog at the back of the cottage and discovered a beautiful lake and amazing scenery all around us....and some sheep! Jock's Cottage has been a labour of love, carefully restored by Noel and his family over the years and as soon as we entered it felt like a home from home. Noel has all facilities for guests to cook in the kitchen and the bedrooms upstairs are so quaint and atmospheric with inspiring morning views of the hills and sheep outside! Jock's Cottage is simply 100% homely 100% relaxing 100% Donegal- We will definitely be back again and thank you 100% Noel for your class hospitality...he even sent us home with a big bag of peat! This place is the best value right now in Donegal and is a wee gem-book it now before it gets booked out!:)

  • We absolutely fell in love with this cottage and it’s owner. Noel is so lovely and the best storyteller we‘ve ever met. We spent many hours sitting by the fireside and singing old Irish folksongs together. We will definitely come back! There’s no better place if you search for an accommodation in Donegal!

Meadowsweet Hill Lodge is nestled in the hills of Donegal near Fintown in a secluded woodland area. This is the "Honeymoon Suite" in our Lodge (book one of the 2 rooms or the whole Lodge plus Gypsy Wagon). - Come and enjoy a retreat in your own cozy space with a King size Futon bed and combine this with the flair of a hostel meeting and interacting with other guests in the shared kitchen, lounge and sun room facility. We want you to feel cozy and welcome in a place immersed in nature.
Please note that the Honeymoon Suite is a loft room with a low ceiling (not everybody can stand up in it) with a narrow staircase leading up to it. Please see the photos. The Lodge is situated in a very quiet, hidden away and peaceful location. It is tucked into a scenic woodland well off the beaten track. It is part of an organic farm where we grow our own veg and produce homemade herbal teas. The Lodge itself is entirely self-build, a project of love and passion! We used wood wherever we could and wanted to make sure it is as cosy as it can get. In the common room/kitchen you find a wood burning stove to add to warmth and cosiness and you find all facilities to cook up your own meals. Added is a wrap around sun room so you can be as close to nature as possible even on a rainy day.
We live about 5km outside the next small village of Fintown and are linked via a mountainous back-road to the picturesque town of Glenties (half an hour drive). We are surrounded by forests, lakes, streams and rivers on the foot of Aghla mountain. We are located right beside a waymarked walking way called "The Gaeltacht/Sli na Finne Way", which makes it a great place for walking and exploring. About half an hours drive from us we have several stunning beaches. The highest cliffs of Europe are nearby as well as Glenveagh National Park. This is also an area well renowned for traditional music. Some famous fiddlers are living nearby and you will find regular traditional music sessions especially in the Glenties area.
  • The location is so charming - situated amongst the trees and off the beaten track. You really do feel like you're getting away from it all and the place was so cosy with a fire light. Our hosts welcomed us with homemade chocolate scones which were very welcome and they and thought to leave their car around the side so that we could park close to the accommodation - in the heavy rain we were glad of that! They also provided us with additional firewood which was welcome in the morning to keep the place feeling toasty as we had breakfast and got ready to hit the road. Very impressed that they built it themselves and would definitely stay there again.

  • Marion and Declan are just the perfect hosts. They strongly helped me to organize a perfect break - weekend full of little details. Their place is a peaceful stunning lodge in the middle of nature. The location is quite easily accessible from Fintown. The place was very clean and it is perfect for weekend scape from the city in couple. Plus, their breakfast was great!

    Luan2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • This place was great! It was a bit out there but Marion gave great directions and I didn't get lost once. The room and grounds are beautiful, just wish I could come back to use the sun room in the summer. Marion and her family were so welcoming and made me feel like family. I'd definitely come back with more people to share the experience!

  • Our stay at Meadowsweet was so wonderful, that we started missing it before leaving. Declan and Marion were very nice host from the very begining, when we arrived so late, but they kept waiting to receive us with some tea and home baked scones. We shared some amazing moments of their music and interesting chats. Even I received some fiddle lessons from the lovely Fiona. The lodge was very cozy and perfectly fitted what we were looking for. And about the surrounding and the rest of the county, well, words can't describe, wonderful. We hope to come back as soon as possible. We

***Please read the listing profile in full to completely understand the space before booking.*** The Birdbox is a cosy, handcrafted treehouse nestled in the branches of beautiful mature oak and scots pine trees. To the front are stunning views towards Glenveagh National Park. A short distance from The Wild Atlantic Way, The Birdbox is ideal for a fun, peaceful getaway or a great base from which to explore Donegal.
The Birdbox is a self contained treehouse suitable for adults only. Internally it measures approximately 3.5 x 2.3 metres on the ground floor. A 30 metre walk along a stepped wooden walkway through a bank of mature trees leads to the decked area of the treehouse. The last five metres is accessed by a rope bridge. At the front of the deck you are five metres from the ground. On entering the space through the double glass doors at the front, you will find a couch on the left and a tiny woodburning stove on the right which heats the treehouse. All fuel is provided. A mezzanine above the living space holds a standard double bed and is accessed by a small secured staircase on the right. Although you cannot stand upstairs, most people should be able to kneel comfortably. Behind the stairs is a kitchenette with a double ring induction hob, smaller than standard oven and grill and a compact 46 litre fridge with a little ice box. Please note, due to it's size, the treehouse does not have a microwave, electric kettle or toaster. We do however provide a little enamel kettle that can be used on the induction hob or the stove when lighting. Toast can be made in the grill. At the back left corner of the treehouse is a small cubicle holding a flushing toilet and shower. The one sink in the treehouse is at the kitchen counter. Both shower and sink have on demand hot water. While the 'bathroom' is compact, opening the door after your shower and pulling across a curtain creates a dressing area and some privacy. Very tall people may find it a bit uncomfortable under the mezzanine and in the shower as head clearance is about 1.9 metres. There is some storage for clothes in baskets on shelves, on hooks provided and in small wooden boxes under the couch. These boxes can also be pulled out to double as footstools or low coffee tables. There is a fold out table and stools which can be taken out for dining both indoors and outside. If The Birdbox is unavailable for the dates you are interested in please check out our other listings. The Hide is a cosy, handcrafted cabin nestled on a slope at the opposite end of our property from the treehouse. The Cow Shed is a little converted byre also on our property.
We are centrally located in a beautiful part of Donegal, close to most of its attractions. The treehouse is nestled in a valley 3 km from the scenic village of Fintown. The closed pubs are a 5 minute drive away and the closest restaurants a 15/20 minute drive away.
  • Expect a lot of peace and quiet. It’s a very unique and beautiful place. It has everything you want for a “digital detox” surrounded by stunning views of Donegal. Can’t wait to come back.

Thank you for the perfect space for the perfect weekend. Can’t wait to find a free date to come again! x Ps great playlist for surroundings & ambience!

  • Perfect escape from normality - cannot recommend enough. Definitely worth a visit! 2 nights was perfect & 100% could have stayed longer!

    Marie2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Spectacular in every way. I simply cannot say enough about this place. The location and landscape is absolutely stunning. Pete and Anna, the owners and creators of this treehouse have brought a sublime experience to Donegal, and to Ireland. The quality of the space and its amenities, as well as the attention to detail in the Bird Box is second to none - every single thing has been so carefully considered and so beautifully finished. Two night stays, adults only and total tranquility, with only the raindrops and birdsong to interrupt your thoughts - it’s the stuff dreams are made of. We’ll be back as soon as we get the childcare arranged! 11/10.

    Maria2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I both absolutely loved our whole experience and would highly recommend making the trip up. Can’t wait to go back already. Something totally different but yet so enjoyable. Every aspect of the bird box exceeded our expectations. From lighting the fire to making coffee and baguettes we enjoyed every experience. Even during storm Dennis.

  • Myself and my partner recently stayed at Don and Lorraine beautiful cottage. Before we arrived they had kept in contact with us and even had the cottage ready early for us. Once we seen the cottage we loved it straight away. It was so charming to look at from the outside and so cosy and welcoming inside. The kitchen was well equipped with everything you could need such as garlic, oil etc. We brought the essentials with us but they had more than we expected. The best part of the cottage was of course the stove. They provided turf and sticks to keep us going and it was just perfect. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone.

  • If you want to get to know the true Ireland and the typical Country Donegal, then you should spend time in Jocks Cottage. The owner Noel says: we're in the middle of nowhere. There it is like in another world. The fog is hanging in the hills, the sheep are grazing around us and you feel like part of the history of Ireland. Noel also takes care of it when he tells the story of the house in the evening with his loving and heartfelt manner. He is an Irishman with heart and soul. We are proud and happy to meet Noel and would like to thank you for the fantastic days at Jocks Cottage. See you next year!

  • We were touring the wild Atlantic way and very happy we found this gem! Fantastic views, cosy accommodation, the house is full of history and character, with a great host. Noel provided top communication and hospitality. The cottage is in a lovely remote location, but not far from main towns. Peaceful, safe and beautiful! It's a shame we were only able to spend a short time here. Would not hesitate in recommending and we will definitely try to revisit!

The cottage is traditional as a traditional thatched cottage gets. It is definitely one that deserves the "property of character" tag - with bog oak ceilings and flagstone floors. Sitting on a 0.8 acre site, the cottage has views across to the Gweebarra River and is within easy reach of shops, pubs, beaches and good walks. There are a bedroom, a living room with an open fireplace plus kitchen, loo and shower. In a place such as this, there'd be no excuse not to write the definitive Irish novel.
  • The thatched cottage was an absolute slice of heaven in rain or sunshine. As charming as the name suggests, a place where you can warm up by a sweet smelling peat fire after a long walk on a deserted beach. Sandra is a wonder, the sort of person who is so naturally hospitable you feel like you've made a lifelong friend. If you're hoping to experience Ireland for real this is it. Hike all day then walk over to Elliots with your instrumentto join a session. We loved it all so much we changed our plans to head back for a few extra days!

    Jennifer2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Sandras place was amazing! Such a cosy cottage in a beautiful location! Sandra was a great host. She stayed in touch, gave us tips on where to go and was quick in replying to any questions we had. She made us and our 3 pooches feel so welcome, with lots of homely touches, including carrots to feed the donkey next door! A lovely spot that we'll definitely visit again!

    Maeve2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was so cosy and the best part about it was the fire - there was a storm when we were there but it didn't matter because we literally just sat in front of the fire all day. Sandra provided everything we needed (firelighters, coffee, bread etc) and even came round with a load of DVDs for us one day. She is lovely and the local pubs were great, loved the Irish music night at Elliott's and the cheesy curry chips at McCreadys! The beach walk that Sandra recommended was stunning (can't remember the name), we walked for an hour and didn't see a single other person.. Loved the cottage and local area, will definitely be back xx

    Harry2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • It's always tempting when you find somewhere great to skip a review so it doesn't get too popular! But you also want other people to experience the same fantastic time we had. Sandra and Craig are so lovely and friendly. Excellent communication throughout and great for local info. The cottage is super cute. Beautiful renovation with gorgeous quirky little touches. Great facilities and location and really cosy. I had to drag myself out of the bed, it was so comfy. If you want to tire the dogs out on amazing beaches, have a pint in the pub then settle down by a roaring fire, this is the place for you. And don't forget to feed the donkey(carrots included!) Thanks for a great stay, we'll be back soon xx

    Lee2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is without a doubt an amazing place to stay...we did not want to leave and will definitely be back soon. So many thoughtful touches and Sandra is so friendly and warm. Just perfect!

    Charlotte2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at the cottage even with storm Dennis rolling in. Everything needed is in the cottage or a short way away like pubs and beaches. If we're going back in the area we'll be sure to check out one of Sandra's other places. Sandra was great, easy to get in touch with and dropped off a bottle of prosecco and chocolates for Valentines day at check in, very thoughtful.

    Chris2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Had an amazing time in the thatched cottage. Cosy and lovely, with little treats like marshmallows for hot chocolate and even carrots to feed shadow the donkey next door! Perfect location near coast and hills for walking, cycling, even surfing. And not even storm ciara stopped us taking up the generous offer of a hot tub at Sandra's other cabins, which was an unexpected and very welcome treat 😊 Sandra is an amazing host. Even enjoyed a pint with her at Elliott's trad night on Friday night. Couldn't recommend highly enough! Go now!

    Clare2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • What a great wee spot, located in the centre of County Donegal allowed us to go out on various wee day trips. Marie, Bernard, Mary and the family were so friendly and welcoming, in fact everyone we bumped into in the village were friendly and welcoming. The house was great and the pub next door was an added bonus. We’ll most definitely be back!

  • Spacious, clean and well-kept house. Beautiful landscape. Strategic position to reach many important places

    Stefano2018-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • Marie, the host, runs the pup next door. She is available for help whenever you need it and that's great. I was worried that the house would be noisy because of the pup but I never heard anything, even on Friday and Saturday night.

You've your own outside space and nothing is shared. Note this isn't a 'glamping site' with multiple 'cookie cutter' units - you've an acre of your own private land. Outside: Parking for 1 car Decking and exclusive use of your own small pool Access via gated drive The Shepherd's Hut (insulated for year-round use) Double bed (good mattress) Drop-down table Electric 'wood-burner' (note Luna is double glazed and insulated like a modern house). Traighenna Bay (translates as 'Bay of Birds') is one of the most beautiful on the Wild Atlantic Way
  • Loved our stay here. The location is perfect with beautiful views. We had rain for most of the trip which didn’t ruin it one bit. Just pack wellies and waterproofs so you can see what the area has to offer. Would highly recommend this amazing stay.

  • We are just back from a 2 night stay in Luna and had the most amazing time. The accommodation is so clean and cosy. Good location close to beautiful beaches and we also took a drive to Slieve League cliffs. We had our dog along with us who also had a ball. Can’t recommend this place enough for a unique stay in a beautiful location.

    Emma2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing space for a few days away from it all. Luna and Kuba were fantastic spaces. Even the storms could ruin our time here. Mike & Alison

    Michael2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay in Luna and the Kube! Storm Dennis didn't blow us away. If you're coming in the winter bring warm clothes. Well appointed little shepherd's hut and amazing location for a quiet weekend away.

    William2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you Greg and Lukas, such a beautiful and scenic spot with short drives to some of the best spots in Donegal. The dogs especially enjoyed having dooey beach to themselves. Storm Ciara hit on our weekend , but we still got out each day and at night locked ourselves in the snug with the peat fire roaring. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and comfortable.

    Mike2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • this was our second visit, i think that says it all. Pictures dont do it justice. And we never tire of walking the dog on the surrounding beaches. Absolutely beautiful

“The Red Bridge Cottage” in the beautiful hills of Donegal. A newly renovated little house from a shed. Two bedrooms, a bathroom and a spacious kitchen and living room. Has a few little quirks that gives it a modern old Irish cottage feel. Private back garden with fire pit surrounded by hills and fields. Lovely scenery walks around including a beautiful lake. Ten minutes walk away is the little village Glenties, exactly a mile. Ten minute drive to Ardara town or Narin beach.
Quint could be a good word. Some of the quirky pieces would be the lovely big fire place, old clock, dresser, stand up bath, cast iron bath, marble wash stand and old wooden doors. Sit outside privately looking at the mountains and trees with a glass of wine and set yourself a cosy fire. If you like snuggle up on couch and watch Netflix which is also available. Or take a stroll up Lough Anna and take in the lovely scenery in a fifteen minute walk. In Glenties you’ll find good food and some traditional music if your lucky. Or try out the little pub Dinneys, further up the glen, you’d be sure to enjoy the local crac up there.
Plenty of little quirky things to do around Donegal. There’s many beautiful sites, like Slieve leaque and glevenveagh national park within driving distance. Plenty of beaches, mountains, lakes and scenic areas within drive or even walk. I will be available to direct and guide you on your visit. There’s so much scenery here in Donegal I’ve yet to visit them all. I love the outdoors and seeing all the beauty we have around us, and will continue to learn where all those hidden gems are for my adventures and to share with my guests.
  • Such a warm cosy cottage - very warm welcome , arranging lovely lasagna / garlic potatoes and salad where waiting for us on the first night ! And extras like turf available at a great wee price is great wee touches Not to far away from some really amazing beaches come rain or shine dog still loved them and was made to feel very at home in the enclosed garden

A detached traditional cottage right on the seashore, with access to our private sandy beach in front. You get your own detached house, entrance, parking, outside area etc. Note we have 4 cottages (and price points) along this same shoreline - click our profile photo to see other places that may be available if this is booked! Sleeping 4, pets welcome (pet surcharge applies), WIFI, open fire & central heating - seals seen in front of the cottage every week.
The Guardian (newspaper) gave us a rave review - full version online. "The next day we awoke to flat calm, sunshine sharp, sprinklings of high cloud. We walked outside to a scene that electrified the senses: the distinctive smell of seaweed drying in the inlet below; a wondrous vista out to a long bay that looked like it was lit from within. The only sound was a distant tractor on the single-track lane. It’s for elemental experiences like these that people venture to this part of Ireland." The cottage is centrally heated throughout and has a large turf-woodburner (first basket of turf included). Every window (apart from bathroom) has a sea view. WIFI - no charge Phone signal - on 'Three' and 'Vodaphone' - other networks not tested. Ground Floor: Living Room/ Dining/ Kitchen - open plan. Turf burner, two sofas. Kitchen - with oven, hob, microwave, fridge (small icebox), toaster, kettle Bedroom - Kingsize bed and great mattress Shower-room - with large walk-in wetroom type shower, 'rainfall' shower head. Heated towel rail (towels provided). Loft: - with double bed Outdoors: Access over 7 acres of hill and shore Parking Picnic bench and other bench Gated access down to our private sandy beach or 2 minute walk to adjacent large sandy beach
You're at Dooey in Lettermacaward, West Donegal (between Dungloe and Glenties). It's probably the most beautiful section of Atlantic coastline in Europe. Walk from the door to a dozen sandy beaches or head inland for mountains, castles, Glenveagh National Park, or further afield for daytrips to Giants Causeway, Slieve League cliffs, Malin Head or Derry/Londonderry.
  • Ok amenities but really great location. Cozy home. Nice wood stove. Excellent shower.

  • Lovely traditional cottage, well equipped and perfect for our nine nights day, the weather was pretty grim at times but everything felt solid and cosy in this exceptionally beautiful location away from it all. Super situation for accessing the many lovely things to do in County Donegal, plentiful deserted golden beaches and lots of wildlife. Worth considering that many attractions like the folk villager and crafts are not available at this time of the year if that’s what you’re hoping to do in County Donegal. This was not an issue for us, thanks to Greg and Lucas clear and responsive communication and the welcome to your lovely community. thank you.

    Louise2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • What a gorgeous little spot to relax and unwind. Perfect for few days away from it all. The cottage has a lovely feel to it - it is is warm and cosy especially when the turf fire is roaring. There is everything you need to just lock yourself away for a few days. Lots of information on things to do and places to eat in the area. We loved just reading and mastering the jigsaw puzzles left by the owners. Our little one loved seeing the wild geese on the beach nearby and our dog loved exploring with us. To top it all the lovely ladies that look after the cottages couldn’t have Been nicer - such a wonderful spot and such lovely people. Thank you and see you soon. X

Situated at the head of a picturesque valley 5 km from the nearest main road. The nearest habited house is 3km away. Views from the cottage are stunning and on a clear night you can count the stars. There is no light pollution. This is where the host and at least two generations before him were born and raised. It is the perfect location if you want to get away from it all and enjoy the peace and quiet. Feedback from current customers all comment on the peace and quiet and the sheep.
Carnaween View is well equipped wirh all mod cons and still has that quiet old world charm. Heating is from a solid fuel stove and there is asmall stove in the double bedroom.
The cottage is a 15 minute drive from the tidy town of Glenties with a fine hotel and plenty of pubs and restuarants. It is also a 15 min drive from Ardara which has been voted Irelands best place to live.

A real hidden gem tucked away off the beaten track but still ideally situated for visiting nearby towns and attractions. We were staying with our two sons, aged 3 and 6, who had an absolute blast. Plenty of beaches nearby with some breathtaking views and the area leading up to the cottage was perfect for an evening walk and to say hello to the sheep! A faultless experience and we can't wait to return. Thank you Paddy! Go raibh maith agat mo chara!

We have updated our measures to keep this place safe! Owner is a trained nurse. - If you look for a peaceful location where the sounds of streams, of birdsong and wind in the trees are the only "noise", our cosy Lodge in the hills of Donegal is waiting for you! Check also the Wonderly Wagon for up to 2 adults + 2 children (separate listing). The Lodge offers a fully equipped kitchen with a wood burning stove and a wrap around sun-room. We want you to feel cosy in a place surrounded by nature.
The Lodge is situated in a very quiet, hidden away and peaceful location. It is tucked into a scenic woodland well off the beaten track in the hills of Donegal near Fintown. It is part of an organic farm where we grow our own veg and produce homemade herbal teas. The Lodge itself is entirely self-build, a project of love and passion! We used wood wherever we could and wanted to make sure it is as cosy as it can get. In the common room/kitchen you find a wood burning stove to add warmth and cosiness and you find all facilities to cook up your own meals. Added is a wrap around sun room so you can be as close to nature as possible even on a rainy day. There are 3 cosy rooms. Two bedrooms, one which sleeps 4 and where you can dream in a canopy bed, the second, a loft room, which we call our Honeymoon Suite with a King Size Futon bed. There is an extra bed (high bed) in the common room.
  • Very attentive hosts in a magnificent setting! I recommend.

  • I was completely inspired by my short visit here in Donegal! Marion and her family invited me into their home and fed me an incredible meal that both accommodated my allergy and was so welcome after traveling about on my own. I loved sharing in conversation around the table with all of them, and hearing Marion and her daughter play fiddle together was a highlight of my trip. There was a sense of peace here that I take with me, and I am grateful I made the journey to this magical place. Thank you so much for everything and I hope to return soon!

  • What a find, totally shut off from the world with everything you need at your finger tips. It’s cosy, stylish, idyllic and spotlessly clean - there were even homemade cones and the fire was lit on arrival. Can’t wait to come back - thank you!

A cosy cottage in beautiful Donegal. Overlooking the Gweebarra river as it meets Dooey beach on Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way, our cottage is the perfect place to get away from it all. Enjoy unbelievable scenery in this untouched corner of the north west. At the end of the day return to the comfort & warmth of this well loved cottage.
When not entertaining our guests, this cottage is our ideal space for work or quiet relaxation. The perfect retreat for individuals travelling to the area, friends or couples escaping to the countryside, or families with small kids; the space if flexible to your needs. A second room can either be used as a study, separate lounge, or a bedroom for babies, toddlers or younger kids - just let us know you need.
Lettermacaward (Leitir Mhic An Bhaird) is one of Ireland's areas of outstanding, untouched natural beauty. Situated in the south of Co. Donegal, in the traditional Gaeltacht area, the community here welcomes visitors like you're one of our own. Whether it's for a pint of milk and the paper that turns into an hour of chat at Gallagher's shop, or a quick pint that turns into a late night enjoying traditional music in front of an open fire at Elliot's Bar, there's plenty to enjoy.
  • House was Beautiful & spotless clean and had a lovely cosy feel to it. Recommend to anyone wanting to get away for relaxing weekend. Can’t wait to get back already. Home away from home.

    Caitlin2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Mikes place is amazing and the location is truly spectacular. The cottage itself is stylish and cosy, with all the amenities you could need for a weekend away. Mikes communication is excellent throughout and although he and his family were away the weekend we visited, we felt confident that we could get in touch if there were any issues. We can’t wait to return!

  • If you want somewhere quiet, remote this is the place to go. Everything was perfect, so cosy and warm. Very traditional. My. Little pup loved runnung around, the second room was a little play room. We had a very bad storm hit and attempted the beach that was a 10 minute drive away but was too stormy to take it all in but would be lovely if the weagher was better. We are already looking at coming back for a longer stay in the summer again. Everything was perfect. Thank you

  • Mike was a friendly host and the cottage was clean, cosy and warm. Lettermacaward is a great location from which to explore this part of Donegal - would definitely return! Recommended for anyone looking to escape the city. Mobile phone reception can be patchy but the host offers WiFi from his home for planning routes etc.

  • Excellent place to stay! Very stylish, homely, comfortable cottage to stay in (especially if you have doggies). We had an amazing time with our dogs, unwinding and enjoying the simpler things like walks, nice drives and reading books Infront of the logburner. Unreal value too!

Meadowsweet Hill Lodge is nestled in the hills of Donegal near Fintown in a secluded woodland area. This is the "purple room" in our Lodge (book one of the 2 rooms or the whole Lodge plus Gypsy Wagon). Come and enjoy a retreat in your own cosy space with a 4 poster bed and with at most 2 other guests in the shared kitchen, sitting room and sun room facility. We want you to feel cosy and welcomed to a place in nature. Come and explore the area by foot, bike or car right from our doorstep.
  • Super Airbnb! I absolutely recommend, isolated in the countryside. A true haven of peace!

  • Very nice place to stay, welcoming family whi like to create contacts with their guests, musique playing and firewood shared together in the garden, well equiped kitchen with some basic food (coffee, tea, sugar,...). Thanks a lot !!!

  • We stayed for 6 nights with our 8 year old daughter in this shared cottage .. It is a very nice experience. The place is beautiful, and very characteristic of the landscapes that are found in this county. The cottage is very welcoming and the hospitality and warmth of Marion and Declan does not detract from the charm of the stay. We recommend it for couples, families or even friends. In addition, the meals we had in their company were in a pleasant musical atmosphere and we regretted not having our instruments in our suitcases, which would have added to the charm of the evening.

    Letitia2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place in the Donegal ! We went twice, forever in our hearths !

    Raphaël2019-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • Simply incredible and exotic. The evening meal (optional) was very good and the hospitality is great! If you are looking for a unique place, this is where you have to go!

    Rémi2019-05-08T00:00:00Z
  • This place was unique in many ways ... The house was beautiful and Marion and Declan were extremely warm and helpful, more like friends than regular hosts. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer to enjoy this magical place.

The hot tub was unreal, Sandra even gave us a lift into town and the on site bar is full of charm and is a super spot to have a drink by the fire. We met Florence (Sandra and Craig's daughter) who was such a sweetheart as well as their beautiful dog Nala who could have been dognapped and brought home with us! Thoroughly recommend staying here to everyone and would like to thank Sandra and Craig for being amazing hosts. Jason and Leoni

  • An amazing stay! My boyfriend & I stayed at Sandra and Craig's for 1 night and it was perfect. We were welcomed on arrival with a drink from Craig and he also had wine in our mini fridge for us. The cabin itself is super cosy - the bed is really comfortable and the shower is fab. The hot tub made it! We chilled in it with some prosecco and had music playing. Having full use of the bar area is also brilliant. We had a few beer by the open fire. Thank you Sandra & Craig! We will definitely be back.

Crona, our host, greeted us in person when we arrived. From then on she was on hand when needed, without being intrusive, truly the perfect host. Thanks Adrian & Linda Coffey

  • Crona as a host and the house are delightful. The house design, architecturally, finishes, furnishings, comfort, and views cannot be beat. The beds were so comfortable and the space and the extras made it so inviting that it will always be remembered. The kitchen has everything we needed to easily cook for 4 all our nights there. WE ALL LOVED IT.

  • Our family had a truly wonderful stay at Crona’s property. We stayed with our 18-month old son and it worked out perfectly for our family. The house itself is extremely comfortable and has a lot of space. It’s beautifully decorated and has all the amenities that our family needed during our stay. Crona was a fantastic host and made sure we had everything we needed, including toys for our son. The location was great for exploring Co. Donegal. We took easy daytrips from the property and it worked out perfectly. The location of the property itself on the water is also beautiful. The town of Dungloe is a short drive always and had multiple grocery stores, restaurants and pubs. We were very happy with our stay! Thank you, Crona!
