The layout is suitable for a family vacation or a group trip with close friends, as there is a spacious 8 tatami mat Japanese-style room and a 10 tatami mat room. Of course, we also accept reservations for one person. No other guests will be accepted during the reserved stay, so you can enjoy your stay without hesitation. However, each room is only has a sliding door, so each room cannot be used as a private room. Because the house is built on a 300-tsubo site, it is away from the neighbors, so you can stay without worrying about them. During the summer, you can also enjoy barbecues and fireworks in the front yard. If you are interested in the stars, we will also show you the starry sky with the optical equipment we have on clear nights. During the day, you can also use drones to take a walk in the sky over the surrounding mountains from the backyard. This is a quiet and natural environment that you will never experience in the city, and it is an area that still retains the old traditional culture unique to the southern region, which is common to Tono in Iwate Prefecture. Please understand that we will be closed for the winter from November 1 to March 19 of the following year.

This is an old Japanese-style house with a full-fledged tea room built 45 years ago by a tea ceremony master as his own practice space. We have inherited this house and have been protecting it by gradually restoring the neglected garden over the past 10 years. There is no TV in Shirakamado. Instead, I enjoy making tea, gazing at the garden, reading books, and spending time with family and friends. Over 80 varieties of plants and trees grow in the garden, and the tea blossoms once cultivated by tea ceremony masters are once again in bloom.On the natural stone terrace, you can enjoy reading or a cup of tea without worrying about being seen. The tea room still retains the meticulous work of Kyoto artisans, and quiet, peaceful time flows there. During your stay, please enjoy the experience of choosing your favorite from a selection of authentic teacups and brewing your own matcha.We provide a matcha whisk and matcha green tea. We also have a library where you can experience Japanese culture and art, as well as a small study called the "Reading & Writing Nook," which is bathed in soft light through the shoji screens. Shirakamado is not an inn for visiting tourist destinations. This is an inn where you can experience the peaceful way of life that Japanese people have cherished for generations.

Enjoy a timeless experience at this inn, surrounded by the garden of the Nanbu family, lords of the Morioka domain (now the Morioka Chuo Community Center Garden), and the Nakatsugawa River, a symbol of Morioka that has flowed through the heart of the castle town since the Edo period. Just a 1-minute walk away across the street is a strolling garden. According to legend, this garden was known as the “Oyaku-en” because it was used to grow medicinal herbs for Morioka Castle. Located right in front of it, this house displays a sign that reads “Oyakuenmae” and began offering private lodging in April 2026. We are renovating this 50-year-old building to create a space that honors the past while embracing the future. Our goal is to create a home-like stay in Iwate where you'll feel at ease and want to return again and again. We are dedicated to helping you enjoy a truly relaxing experience here.
