Smoking friendly holiday rentals in Matala beach

Perfect location, 20m to the beach, many restaurants, friendly people, parking spot bit tricky but never more than 200m. Communication perfect, very proactive. Exactly as the pictures shows.

Everything was as expected. Nice and responsive host, the place was clean with all the facilities as described. The location was a key issue for us - in the middle between Heraklion and Chania. We could easily explore all the interesting places on the island. I recommend Nikos place for everybody visiting Crete

My husband and I spent a lovely week at Asteri Home. The house was exactly as expected and just what we wanted for our week in Crete. The kitchen was well-equipped and allowed us to make breakfasts and a some dinners at home. The main double bedroom was big enough and comfortable. The bathroom is a bit dark and the shower is quite small, but we made do. The most amazing part of the house is the huge garden overlooking the sea that has 4 sun loungers, 2 outdoor tables for dining, a BBQ and a dart board. We spent a lot of time sitting at the end of the garden enjoying the view. Véronique and Yiannis are amazing hosts. They were so helpful right from the start - arranging transport from the airport, a rental car, offering suggestions for restaurants and places to visit. Kokkini Hani is quieter than other more touristy parts of Crete we visited. We found wonderful Greek restaurants with fresh seafood everyday. The supermarket and shops are all in walking distance. A lovely place!

Dimitris has been a very helpful host suggesting us a lot of activities around Kouses. Zaneta is taking care of the flat and she has been very friendly and present for any request. She also brought us the bread from the church and a traditional soup on Easter. We could understand each other even if we didn't speak any language in common. The terrace of the flat has a wonderful view on the Psiloritis mount and the hills around and it's great time to sit there at sunset. The village is cozy, very friendly people, a great kafenion/taverna. Maria -the owner- adopted us for dinner and we loces her home-made food. We felt at home. Definitely I would reccomend staying at Dimitris' place!

Retro Gaming Paradise – A Perfect Stay! We had an amazing time at this apartment! The place was a nostalgic dream for any retro gaming fan—fully stocked with classic consoles like the N64, Dreamcast, Game Boys, and more! along with a great selection of games. It was the perfect setup to unwind and relive some childhood favorites. The space itself was beautifully designed—clean, cozy, and super aesthetic, with thoughtful touches that really gave it character. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and we slept like babies each night. The location was also ideal—close to everything - center , food places, shops, beach , with easy access to local attractions. On top of all that, George is a fantastic host : friendly, responsive, and full of excellent local recommendations that really added to the experience!! Highly recommend this spot for gamers or anyone looking for a unique and comfortable stay!

Giannis is a very invested, responsive and discreet host. We really enjoyed the welcome with a pastry (very good!), the oranges in the fridge as well as the drinks made available. The environment is very pleasant and the location is ideal, quiet but close to the promenade with restaurants. If there were any questions, Giannis was always available as well as to make recommendations to us. Listing is as described. However, it should not be too big for the night part and the bathroom but otherwise everything was very good!

Filipos was the best host I have dealt with in Airbnb so far. Very friendly welcoming, showed the surroundings. Made me feel right at home. The place was clean and comfortable. If I ever return to Crete, I will choose him as a host again.

This is our second stay at Stefanos apartment. The apartment is perfect for us, great value and exactly as photos with the most amazing view. Absolutely recommend and we will definitely be back again!

We loved our week in Eleftheria and Manolis’s hillside home. Our every need was catered for: we were given a warm welcome with delicious evening meal and other goodies; Eleftheria was full of helpful recommendations of places to eat; the bed was comfortable and the kitchen well-equipped; and the beautiful terrace and refreshing little pool - from which we could look down onto the Libyan Sea - beckoned each time we returned from our adventures around the coast and mountains. Terracotta pots brimming with geraniums and basil, and olive trees around our borders, made it a very special place to relax, though the setting is what made it stand out: we had complete privacy and utter peace (we heard only goats, sheep and the occasional distant dog). And the sunsets will stay with us for a very long time. Thank you Eleftheria and Manolis

We were received very hospitably by Mixalis and he showed us everything in the apartment. In the kitchen there was a large fruit basket, filled with juicy apples, apples, and bananas. The apartment was equipped with everything you need and the Wi-Fi was very fast. We were able to park our car safely in the property. The property has a large gate that can be automatically locked. It's only a few kilometers to Rethymnon with good shopping, but you can also buy groceries in the village. We enjoyed the apartment of Mixalis very much and we will definitely come back. We stayed as a family of six, four adults and two children (8 and 5). The set up was really comfortable and worked perfectly for us. The outdoor pool area is great and our two kids loved it - especially as there were lots of inflatables left to play with. We arrived at 3am. Xristos offered to meet us, but when we suggested with young children we'd prefer just to get in and get to bed, then meet up after it was no problem at all. We had instructions to call when we arrived, and the gate was opened for us. We were blown away by how well supplied the house was. Xristos was in touch in the week before to check if we needed anything in particular and couldn't have been more helpful in making sure we had everything we needed to start our holiday. Then we had a delivery of local fruit and wild artichokes as they were in season. Amazing. There was a dust storm before we arrived. Xristos promptly sorted this too. A great and relaxed place to stay, with an unbelievably good host. Thanks!

Manos's place was located at a beautiful ans peaceful location, near the city centre but also at a good distance away from too much crowds. The apartment was as described, and is also clean and spacious. Manos even provided handmade cookies from his father and local Raki for us to try. He was also open to us leaving our luggages in the apartment while it was being cleaned due to our earlier arrival. Overall a very pleasant and lovely experience!

May 2025, 10 nights stay for three (2 adults, 1 toddler). Villa is really fantastic. Beautiful view of the sea and the bay. It offers plenty of space for more people (2 couples, 4-6 friends, 2 families) and for longer stays (storage space, cupboards and shelves, etc.). The furnishings correspond to the description and offer, even in the kitchen, everything you need. Our highlight was the covered terrace. Our flight was moved up at short notice. A significantly earlier check-in was no problem at all in our case. Stelios is a very friendly, helpful and dedicated host. We recommend him and his villa without reservation. Small restriction: the accommodation is a bit off the beaten track or the region is a bit scattered (mainly due to the geography of the terrain). Without your own car, it will be a bit difficult in our opinion. However, there is a free parking space directly at the house.

We can only agree with the many positive reviews. We had a great time in the beautiful mountain village – it was a special experience. Every morning we had breakfast on the roof terrace and enjoyed the tranquility. At first we thought the sea would be missing, but that wasn't the case at all. We really came to rest – walks in the area were enough for that. Actually, we planned to do more, but we enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere so much that we took it easy. Nevertheless, we were traveling by car and made some nice excursions, including to the coast, where we discovered great restaurants. A vacation that will stay with us in very good memory. If you wish to experience a secluded garden by a non-travelled beach, almost like your own access to the sea, that is the place. A very good taverna is few meters away. Nothing best to let stress, driving, movida and consumerism behind one's shoulders for some days. Dimitri and his family have created a heaven of peace and a beautiful garden. The holiday-house from their parents is still decorated like in the 80s, but all the essentials are there. The generous welcoming, with a large basket of fruit, olive oil and salad from the herb garden, complete the feeling of coming home. Efkaristò! Many thanks! Rossella

It was a wonderful stay! The apartment is completely new, modern and beautifully decorated. The hosts are a kind young couple who are extremely hospitable and professional. Starting with care before arrival, through a tour of the apartment, numerous recommendations about Rethymno, refreshments with cake, honey and other food, and finally fulfilling a special request. The location is fantastic, a few steps to everything. Thank you! I will be back.

We stayed at Nikos's place from 10/6-10/12. The sea view was great. In the evening we heard the sea rushing. 2 minutes to the beach. The water was clear and pleasant 25°. There were not many people on the beach, a pleasant atmosphere. The island offers many attractions, the old town of Rethymno is worth a trip alone. The prices are ok. The Greeks are nice and hospitable. Nikos was on hand when we had an issue. Very friendly and helpful. We recommend this place👍. Regine and Heike from Germany🙋🙋.

the place was very nice and Maria was very hospitable. Her mom gave us delicious homemade cookies. The house looked as if someone is still living there. there were personal photos and what seemed like personal items. looked a lot like a "home". We had a lovely time. thank you Maria.

We were a family with 2 small children for 1 week in the accommodation. We were able to have 2 baby beds and a high chair, which was a great relief. Everything was as described and very clean. Sea and beach and restaurants etc. are just around the corner. From the terrace, you have a beautiful view of the mountains behind which the sun sets and around the corner you can see the sea. Large parking lot in front of the door. After 3 days, the apartment was cleaned, waste disposed of, bed linen and towels changed, wonderful! There is a long staircase to get into the apartment, no elevator, but for us it was not a problem.

Giorgio’s place is excellent! Great location close to town! It was very clean and our room had been newly renovated. Craziest, coolest shower I’ve ever seen! Giorgios is very nice and response time was quick. Highly recommended!

I‘m more that happy that we decided to stay at Dimitri‘s place. He ish very kind and helped us right away, if we had any questions. The location is peaceful and has a great view. The beach is not far away and the size of the apartment is just perfekt for a single person or a couple. I will definitely visit again.

Sofia and her dad Giorgos were great hosts, from meeting, explaining and taking the time to make great recommendations to checking in often, very much appreciated! We loved Iraklio (and Heraklion) and the flat had what the 4 of us needed to enjoy our stay. We spent our mornings and evenings on the decks and loved eating outside and drinking beverages. The recommendation for the Peskesi farm to table restaurant was spot on! The restaurant/cafes options in walking distance of the flat are plentiful and every place we tried was good. We walked everywhere, and took a city bus to the wonderful beach by the airport and the ferry excursion to Santorini one day. The archaeological museum is a stand out, and the history museum and Venetian Fortress were also great sites. Ended up skipping Knossos as the artifacts found were in the archaeological museum, so no opinion on that. We shall return to Crete some time and when staying in the area would gladly book with Sofia!

This was one of the nicest places we have stayed. Could not recommend it more. Lovely people.
