It’s also within minutes of genuine and authentic Cajun cuisine (Landry’s and Pat’s) and local fishing and boating spots (Atchafalaya Basin). With a deck overlooking the water, a comfy bed, and plenty of outdoor space, it covers all points of interest! A great hideaway spot for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, and families!
Within minutes of the Atchafalaya Basin, Butte La Rose camp grounds, Pat’s Fisherman’s Wharf Restaurant, Crawfish Town USA, Breaux Bridge (Crawfish capital of the world), and a locally owned grocery store.
  • Very peaceful and beautiful place. Me and my family loved our little get away to playin possum!

  • What a great place on Bayou Amy (Pronounced ah - me). I was able to land a few fish (sac-a-lait) which made a great local dinner for my wife and I. I don't understand a previous reviewer's comment that it isn't an appropriate place for people in their 60's. I am in my late 60's and found that the place exceeded my expectations. Kitchen was well equipped, the artwork throughout the house added to our enjoyment, the space was comfortable and pleasant.

  • This was our 2nd stay at Playin Possum and we love it! Perfect little getaway on the water with everything you need. We have family in the area and love staying at Abbie’s cabin. She’s extremely thoughtful and very hospitable 😊 - and we love the artwork throughout- not the mention the beautiful spacious porch and fire pit!! It’s overall just a great little place. We will be back and would recommend to anyone! Thanks Abbie!!!!

  • Abbies’s place was the perfect getaway! We thoroughly enjoyed the bone-fire, fishing, and quiet space for reading. Everything we needed was readily available, and communication was amazing! We will definitely be returning.

  • The cottage is adorable. Lots of thought and talent went into the decor. Loretta was a perfect host.Breaux Bridge is a great town with fantastic restaurants and is centrally located to other tourist areas. Just one tiny word of warning. The tub is nice and great for baths. However, showers , while not impossible just aren’t ideal in a tub like that. However, for most people it would not be a problem. Other than that we couldn’t find a thing to complain about even if we were looking! We had a wonderful stay.

  • Very welcoming and comfortable place to stay in a great location.

  • Cute little place walking distance from downtown (and just about everything else.) The accommodations were not luxurious, but they were super cute and exactly what we needed for a short stay. The host is wonderful, and accommodated a late check in time for us. She also left some cookies and helpful recommendations for our stay. Kitchen facilities are limited but that was not a problem for us at all. With ready access to awesome Cajun food, who needs a full kitchen???

  • I loved staying in the cottage. it reminded me of my childhood. I was able to show and explain many things to my grandsons about my youth. I only wish that we could've stayed longer. communication with Loretta could not have been better and she is so helpful!! I do hope to spend a few more days in the cottage in the future!! It's a beautiful place to relax and have a true southern experience with true southern hospitality!

This is the first and original neighborhood of the area known as Sterling Grove. The home itself is listed on the national historic registry and is also called "the duchess". The neighborhood is on the cusp of the current downtown and is in a triangle shaped cross sectioning, where down town meets the historical district. The home itself is located on a peninsula with three frontages. Directly across the street is the white picked fenced in area of the Magnolia historical senior activity center. The Duchess... The Sebastian Home is a Historical Victorian Mansion built in 1910 during a time of growth and prosperity in Cajun country after the train arrived in 1880. "The Duchess" Anna Sebastian was a house servant/ and personal assistant to the Mouton Family from (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). The Sebastian Family Migrated here in 1827 from spain in an attempt to escape political persecution and make an new life in a new land. During that time the land known as the West Feliciania Parishes were still under spanish control and the Sebastian family was planted here in an attempt to secure population and control of the area that was becoming overrun with the "Acadians". Due to her unique geneology and striking features, Anna was reveared as a beauty beyond all belief. At the age of 13, she was hired by the Mouton Family as a "house girl" or host. During her years of service to the Mouton Family, it was never said or mentioned where Anna had come from or weather or not she was a member of the Mouton Family. This is where her title came from being known as "The Duchess". Due to the Extreem importance and power of the Mouton Family, as with the current plantation, there was an overbearing imporntance placed on the need to secure power and political control during the growing and imperial colonizing time of the 1800's. This was done through marriage and alliances with other powerful lords of the land. This is were the extreemly important task of seducing men came into the duty list of "The Duchess" She was a musical talent as well as beautiful and would captivate the gentelmen visitors with here charm and voice, all while never letting on that she was not a daughter to Charles Homier Mouton. The Suitors would none the less always call and Charles used this influence to Politically Manuver his way the the office of Leutanant Gouvenor through marriage of his actual daughers to extreemly wealthy and powerful Plantation Owners of the Mississippi/ New Orleans Valley and the Point Coupee/ Cote Jelee Ridge. It was furher quested that due to the undaughted success of the 13 Marriages, the efforts of the Duchess, produced 3 Gouveners, 6 Senators and over half a million acres of real estate. Quietly and without knowing, she was the driving force behind the most powerful family bloodline in Louisiana History.

  • Our stay in this cabin was most exceptional. We extended our stay there because this place is very conducive to calm and relaxation. The warmest owners make sure that nothing is lacking and answer all of our questions very quickly. We took advantage of the campfire, the hammock, the large lot and the small lake. I will go back anytime with my little family. It is without a doubt a dream place!

    Sandi2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • This was our first air bnb and I couldn't be more impressed, my son caught his first large mouth in the pond and I spent most of my time in the hammock. Thank you so much for everything! 10/10 recommend!!

  • My husband and I stayed here for a weekend getaway to celebrate his birthday and our anniversary. We were looking for privacy and peace and quiet. We definitely found it here! The property is beautiful. The cabin is small but has everything we needed. The beds are extremely comfortable. I was concerned about how comfortable we would be in a full sized bed since we are used to our king at home, but it was just fine. Great pillows, too. Kristen was very helpful from the very beginning, helping me make the reservation and offering her recommendation on things to do. We are already planning to come back in the spring with our 5 daughters.

    Lauren2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Spent the weekend here as a quick getaway. Wonderful hosts and accommodations! Beautiful oasis with a fishing pond (plus poles and bait), grill (plus charcoal) and campfire pit (plus they have wood for you). They also provided great recommendations to surrounding restaurants and activities if we wanted to venture off the property! We loved our time there. Cabin was very clean and had everything we needed (and more!). We are hoping to be back in the future.

    Connor2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Super cabin with a nice lake view and near bayou. Comfort with a terrace where we like to spend time. My husband and I LOVED, Kirsten is full of attention and hyper reactive to any question. I recommend +++

  • Wonderfull place with lots of hospitality

    Esmee2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in the duchess studio which has a large and very comfortable bed. The shower is great as well. There's a coffee machine and fridge in the room which are very convenient but the highlight was definitely the cooked breakfast in the morning. Jean Benjamin also gave us a great recommendation for where to go to catch live music.

    Michael2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • First- this place is not lux. It's small, the bathroom is cramped and the street outside is loud. However, it is cozy, comfortable and the host is absolutely wonderful. Fresh cooked breakfast delivered every day, lovely outdoor space, and tips on what to do and where to go. Jean brought my dog treats and made us feel at home. He was very responsive when I couldn't get connected to the Wifi and got it fixed right away. The location is great, downtown is definitely walkable and the lovely Acadiana park is less than 10 minutes away by car. As a lone female I never felt unsafe. We had the best time!! Thank you Jean and fam!

    Laura2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • Jean is a class act who is passionate about South LA culture. He is also a talented musician! We definitely recommend staying with him. Great time and great value! Very comfy bed!!!

  • I was going to cancel and I reached out to the host to let them know that it was an accidental reservation that was made. And the host was very gracious about rebooking it however I did not know when I would be back again they did ask me if I could cancel so that they could be able to rent out the unit again but I mentioned only after a full refund would I be able to do that. so I did take the loss of $30 which I’m disputing with my bank I do recommend this Airbnb however it’s nice for those that are on a travel budget.

    Viola2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • My wonderful hosts upgraded me to the Duchess loft & I absolutely fell in live with it. Unfortunately I was only there long enough to get a few hours sleep. I can’t wait to come back & hopefully wont be working such long hours...I really want to soak in the beautiful clawfoot tub next time.

This cozy cottage is nestled on the bank of the Atchafalaya River, minutes from Interstate 10 and half way between Lafayette, La and Baton Rouge. Upon entering the property you travel through your own little private swamp then the property opens up to the cottage. The front porch is steps away from the beautiful river. Large windows line the front of the cottage so no matter where you are you have a wonderful view. It is a perfect place to relax with nature surrounding you.
While this cottage is close to Interstate 10, it is still away from the hustle and bustle and a perfect place to relax with nature. Due to this, cable t.v. and internet are NOT available. There are over-the-air channels and an assortment of movies for you to enjoy. The cottage is furnished with a full size washer and dryer with detergent. Bottles of drinking water and gallons of water for cooking are provided for your stay due to the cottage having well water that I wouldn’t recommend consuming. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots/pans, silverware, cooking utensils, measuring cups/spoons, plates, cups, toaster, food processor, microwave, oven/stove, coffee pot (with coffee), and microwave. We also provide cooking basics such as oil, salt/pepper, flour, sugar, and vinegar. The fridge is also stocked with essentials including mayo, mustard, ketchup, bottled water, butter, and sliced cheese. Ice trays are located in the freezer and all made with bottled water. Please do not eat or take the food located in the freezer. The bathroom is also fully stocked with towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer, toothbrush/toothpaste, band-aids, hydrogen peroxide, and basic otc medicines. This cottage is located feet away from the Atchafalaya River which is a very large river with a strong current making it an unsuitable environment for children to be left unattended outside. Swimming is not permitted. It sits on over an acre of property, so there is plenty of room in the back yard to run, play, and have fun. The porch offers rocking chairs and lounge chairs for you to relax and enjoy the view. We also have citrus trees and a vegetable garden in the yard, so when in season help yourself to fresh fruit. You will be the only ones on the property so you will be able to have a relaxing private stay. The fences on both sides of the property outline the area for your enjoyment.
The cottage is located just a few minutes south of a Louisiana Visitors Center (which is directly off I-10). There is a bar and also a gas station with a deli located on the drive between the cottage and the interstate. A few more minutes past the cottage and you will be at the boat launch for the Atchafalaya River located in Butte La Rose, La. A small general store is located across from the launch. Very close by is Henderson, La and it offers some amazing Louisiana cuisine including world famous Landry's Seafood House. Crawfish Town USA is another one of my favorites located in Henderson. A short drive down I-10 and you will be in Lafayette or Baton Rouge. If you are interested in escape rooms, the award winning 13th Gate Escape Rooms are a short drive away.
  • The place was so nice that I proposed on the front steps and she said yes! I also recommend the Airboat Tour with Nick.

Just literal steps from the river, with a porch for sittin’ and chillin’. We made use of the fire pit and just enjoyed the quiet night, then watched the sunrise the next morning on the porch. While there is a peaceful seclusion, the house is also extremely close to excellent restaurants and cute shops in Breaux Bridge and Henderson, and not too far of a drive away from Baton Rouge. (Also, while the listing notes no WiFi/cable, we had great cell reception the whole time!) The River Retreat was the perfect getaway weekend after a busy holiday and Mardi Gras season. Already talking about planning another trip.

  • The peace and quiet at The River Retreat was awesome. The Atchafalaya River was calming and the sunrises were incredible. The rooster down the way added a bit of humor and authenticity to the country setting. Everything about the house was completely homey. Plenty of fresh cold water in the fridge and the juicy oranges off the tree were a new treat for us. Thanks for everything.

    Phil2020-03-06T00:00:00Z

  • If you’re thinking about booking, look no further you will not be disappointed. A unique experience that you will not find anywhere else in Lafayette. The cocktail hours are entertaining and informative and the hot breakfasts are a great way to start the day. Jean will customize your trip itinerary and answer any questions promptly. Everything was a breeze 10/10 do recommend.

  • We fully enjoyed our stay in the “land yacht”. Jean Benjamin and his family are so very accommodating and amazing hosts. You’re immediately greeted with genuine southern hospitality. Regretfully we weren’t able to stay to enjoy the Cajun breakfast, but it sounded truly amazing (and other guests confirmed how yummy it is). Would love to stay here again if our travels ever bring us this way.

Our cozy cabin sits in the heart of Cajun country, about 30 minutes outside of Lafayette. It's a great place to spend time relaxing in the quiet serenity of South Louisiana, or enjoy spending a night or more traveling through, it is located just 8 miles north of Interstate 10. The Cabin is all wood inside and has the great cabin smell the minute you open the door. It was built in 2014 by Amish builders in Pennsylvania and transported down by a truck.
This is a single bedroom log cabin that was built by Amish builders. Materials in the cabin are all wood floors, walls and ceiling. It has that great smell of a cabin in the country. There is internet, an electronic lock on the door, a security system, a table in the den and an iron & ironing board. It has a fully equipped kitchen for preparing a meal. There is a dock over the pond to relax and enjoy the outdoor view.
The cabin sits next to a pond on 5 acres of property. There are trees along the property lines and a dock over the pond to sit and relax. There is a porch on both sides of the cabin.
  • This little cabin is perfect. It has everything you need and more. And, it's spotless. The host Larry is in touch with you in case you have any issues. We didn't. We will definitely stay here again.

    Brenda2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • That place is just amazing, with the deck right in front of the house where you can relax, watch the sunset and the stars at night. It's calm and quiet, clean and charming. The bed is really comfortable. We also enjoyed the woodburning stove. Larry is so kind. We don't want to leave!!! We recommend it! Thanks for everything Larry! We will definitely come back!

  • The cabin was very cozy, neat and organized. The host was prompt in responding to any questions. We plan to return as soon as we get the chance.

    Leon2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Larry’s cottage was charming and we’re sorry we didn’t have more time to spend there. We may change our itinerary just so we can return on our way home.

    Linda2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • This was my husband and my first time using airbnb. We took an impromptu roadtrip and booked the cabin with short notice as we didn't know exactly where we would be by the time we were done driving for the day. I'm so glad that we didn't book a hotel. Larry was very prompt with responses to questions, his cabin was emasculate, and we had some much needed downtime to unwind. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone needing a get away.

Situated on Bayou Teche in the heart of Breaux Bridge, this property is a newly restored Cajun home, built in 1910, keeping the original style and decor intact to allow you to have the feeling of stepping back in time. With the deck on the bayou, and an additional outdoor sitting area, along with the comfort of this unique cottage, relaxation is assured.
There is a Steinway piano located in the living area of the house. You will find an antique record player along with a vinyl collection for your listening pleasure. The cottage is located close enough to the quaint center of downtown to enjoy the many restaurants, dance halls, and antique shops. Kayak inputs exist there as well as a kayak rental business.
Located on Bayou Teche yet very close to downtown Breaux Bridge.
  • This retro charmer is a perfect base to explore Cajun country. We enjoyed Zydeco music and dance for breakfast in Breaux Bridges, a road trip to Eunice to see Rendez Vous Des Cajuns, and an Achafalaya swamp tour.

  • A dreamy cottage home on the water, its clear that the owners were mindful to ensure guests will enjoy their stay. Excellent, quiet location with plenty of privacy, and the Grocery market is just a stone’s throw away. We were happy the home was stocked with handy things like pots, pans, shampoo & conditioner, and even cat treats you can give to the furry neighbors. The bed was so cozy and blankets kept us toasty at night. There is even a gorgeous garden infront of the home, and lush plants around, making for a wonderful scenery. Everything works and was super clean. We wished we had a reason to stay longer.

  • My boyfriend and I stayed here for the summer for 2.5 months and really enjoyed it. The house is comfortable and a lovely size. The kitchen is helpfully stocked with pots and pans so you can do whatever cooking you need. The yard has lots of beautiful plants that provide shade and there is both a front and back porch you can sit on to have your coffee/drink a beer. Breaux Bridge itself is a lovely town - we especially loved the old downtown area by the Bayou Teche, which is a quick few minute drive from the house. We hope to be back!

The studio is in an older, more mature neighborhood. There is a mixture of cajun, country and creole culture. The neighbors are warm and inviting, ranging in all ages.
  • Wonderful , clean and peaceful place to stay ; 10-15 min walk to the interesting sites ; reactivity of the hostess even if we did not have the chance to see her. But Wifi not really good.

    Stefanie2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • The room was perfect for our quick, unplanned weekend getaway. We booked it about 20 minutes before we arrived and it was ready for us to walk in the door. Very clean and comfortable. This was our first stay at an air b&b so we weren't exactly sure what to expect but now we will be looking into them more often.

    Jessica2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • I really liked this mini home. It made me think about how much I might enjoy joining the tiny home movement.

    Blaine2019-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • Very cute, immaculate space in a charming town. Katie is a great hostess and communicator. Would love to come back and explore Breaux Bridge some more and will definitely stay here again. Try La Poussiere (only 2 blocks away) for great Cajun music and dancing!

    Judy2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Both of Katie's properties are clean, well decorated and offer many amenities. There are always brochures of things to do which are not hard to find given the location. Always a good value any season of the year.

Initially slightly inconspicuous on the second floor of the the utility building behind the house, however once you go up the stairs, everything looks great.

  • Wayne's place is a great location to explore all south Louisiana has to offer.

    Paul2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay at Wayne’s and Laura’s. Both of them are so sweet and full of great information about the area. It’s tough to find a good place to stay with wonderful people as host. We found that with Wayne’s place. Unfortunately for us it was just a short one night stay. We will be back and will stay with them again.

    Amanda2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Wayne and Laura were great host, so personable, we loved visiting with them. We want to go back in the spring when the wisteria is blooming over the arbor. We had a great stay!

Authentic best describes the experience of staying at Richard and Charlene's Atchafalaya Retreat located on the beautiful Atchafalaya River in Butte La Rose, Louisiana (one mile off I-10 at Exit 121). In a wooded setting on the magical River, the Main House and Guesthouse are raised on piers and accessible by stairs or by elevator. The cozy, beautifully appointed interior is light filled and well equipped with everything, including a full kitchen for a perfect stay.
Particularly inviting, this select spot would be an excellent artist's stay with an unending selection of beautiful views within easy walking or driving distance.
The Butte LaRose neighborhood is a rural area on the Atchafalaya River and is surrounded by levees of the Atchafalaya River Basin. The area is full of permanent residences and camps. There is a large public boatlanding and small store, Doucet's, with basic staples including wine, beer and bait.
  • Charlene and Richards place is a lovely getaway. They are great hosts and very responsive if something comes up. Gorgeous views of the Atchafalaya and a cozy outpost to explore the towns and nature all within 15mins of this perfect Cajun bungalow. We enjoyed the space very much and could make ourselves comfortable here year round.

    Noah2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • A nice quiet get away spot. Far enough away for solitude, but close enough to civilization to get anything you need quickly. The elevator is a great help with luggage.

    Steve2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a place that will make you feel comfortable and at home then Richard and Charlene’s place is definitely for you. Perfect example of southern hospitality, and a enchantingly beautiful place. Best Air BnB experience so far. You will have everything you need here and much more!

    Brandy2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • The place is super clean, very private and absolutely gives the whole living on the bayou experience! Has a very quiet setting, but close to great places to eat and plenty to see! And the best experience of it all was our hosts, Richard and Charlene were GREAT!! They really made the whole trip worth it!!

    Linette2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect: idyllic accommodation !!! With balcony overlooking the banks of the Atchapalaya river: refined decoration, taste and refinement. Do not hesitate, it is a haven of calm at the edge of the water in contact with nature. Too bad our hosts had to be absent during our stay. Do not miss the grocer's welcome and his family "Welcome Cajun" just before the house and camping.

    David2019-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • We had a Great time at Charlene house, and we would have stayed longer if it would have been possible. Charlene's Airbnb is large, with large windows offering a beautiful view on the river. It's perfectly located to take advantage of the Atchafalaya basin, and the surrounding nature as well. Communication with Charlene was very easy. We definitely recommend to stay a few days at her place if you plan to visit the area.

    Guillaume2018-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a place to make you feel right at home, this is the one! You won’t regret staying here. Just waking up in the morning and looking out the window will be worth the stay! Richard and Charlene will definitely make you want to come back with their amazing southern hospitality!

    Downtown Lafayette, everything new!
  • Very welcoming space. The loft is attached to the back of the house but still maintains a very private feel. The style of the loft was very soft and cozy. The location in reference to downtown is more than convenient. The host who also lives on location was very kind and hospitable. Me and my partner didn't expect our stay to be as wonderful as it was. Would recommend!

    Ian2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • Chance's place was way nicer and bigger then expected. It is situated in a nice neighbourhood. The location is great too, as you can walk to downtown Lafayette. Chance was easy to communicate with. We stayed for 4 nights and would definitely stay there again.

    Mélanie2019-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean and very comfortable. I had everything I needed and some. Even had a home cooked meal check in day!

    Charles2018-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • Best AirBnB experience thus far!!! Chance was a perfect host; always available when needed, knows the area well, and fully respects guests' privacy. The space was much better than expected and fully stocked with everything you may need and more! (kitchen ware, silverware, cookingware, toiletries). The shared space (cozy, private backyard) had a grill, firepit, and best of all a porch swing!!! Washer and dryer were provided on the porch. Beautiful historic neighborhood with a great breakfast/lunch diner (Gary's) three houses down. Perfect Cajun hideaway!!!

    Delayna2018-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • Chance has done a great job of creating cool little studios. I was completely comfortable in his place, coulda stayed much longer. Great location a few blocks from the downtown strip, walking distance to restaurants, bars, and markets.

    Sarah2018-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Chance was great and the room was nicer than the photos. I will definitely stay again.

    Darla2017-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Close to nightlife, chance was very easy to get in contact with, and the space was beautiful! Only downside was hearing the renters in the unit next to it through the walls and doors (but they were fairly loud), but all around an awesome stay!

We are in the heart of Cajun and Zydeco music, food and culture. The cottage is a separate space like a standard hotel room w a beautiful relaxing setting on the Bayou. We have hammocks by the pergola, a hammock by the water, kayaks, saltwater pool & outdoor shower to enjoy. There are 2 cats on the property but none are allowed in cottage. Refrigerator and convection oven. There is no full kitchen. NO SMOKING in the cottage. Hulu & Netflix provided no basic TV. We are a non smoking property.
We are a Non Smoking Property. Our property is 1 acre landscaped with fruit trees, flowers, cypress trees as well as 4 100 yr live oaks with beautiful Spanish moss draped branches overlooking the Bayou Teche. We are in the heart of Cajun Country, where Cajun and Zydeco music are world famous. There is so much to do here we recommend a minimum of 2 nights and preferably 3 to get a taste of the culture. Our cottage offers privacy as it is a separate building to our home that stands at the end of a beautiful architectural carport. It is the size of and offers similar amenities of a standard size 375 sq foot hotel room. Although it does not overlook the bayou directly it does have its own private side yard and all guests are invited to use and enjoy all of the property. Kayaks with direct access to the water (at no additional cost), beautiful landscaping and hammocks by the pool and bayou are a few of the things that make this a magical space. Also, for your pleasure, is our beautiful 60 foot salt water lap swimming pool with pergola and outdoor shower that is like an instant trip to the beach. Because we live in the semi tropics, swimming can be good from April thru October. The cottage is appointed with a queen bed, good sized work desk/dinning table, love seat, kitchenette w refrigerator, convection oven and coffee and tea makers. There is also a CD player/radio, WI-FI and TV w Netflix and Hulu movies no basic tv channels. There is not a full kitchen. NO SMOKING in the cottage. Continental breakfast fixings provided. Breaux Bridge is a quiet town of about about 7,500 on the outskirts of and just 7 miles away from the city of Lafayette Louisiana. We are just a quiet 1/2 mile walk/drive away from downtown Breaux Bridge. People come from all over the world to dance to live music on Saturday mornings at 8:30 AM at the famous Zydeco breakfast. Joie de Vivre Coffee and Culture Cafe offers a cajun jam every Saturday after the zydeco breakfast. Other activities include Flea Markets, Avery Island, Longfellow's Evangeline Oak, Lake Martin Swamp Tours and/or a Plantation Tour. Washer and Dryer available upon request. Owners are LA state licensed massage therapists. Trent is available Swedish and deep tissue for an added fee. Call for more information and/or schedule an appointment. Enjoy!
We love being by the water and having neighbors that don't fence off their properties which only gives one a sense of greater expansion as if we have more acreage. The neighborhood is quiet with large lots up to an acre and the area was once a plantation called Paradise Oaks so as one looks around the neighborhood one can see these oaks scattered throughout the neighboring yards. The neighbors are friendly but keep to themselves unless one needed assistance....a quiet place to live and visit.
  • Clean and cozy place with everything you will need for a stay of a few days. The hosts are very hospitable and helped us with many suggestions to explore the local Cajun food, music, dancing, history, and nature, which is exactly what we wanted to do. Many thanks to them for such a fun and pleasant visit for us.

  • Beautiful oasis on the Bayou Teche. We kayaked under the old Breaux Birdge, we ate boiled shrimp and crawfish etouffee and danced at Pont Breaux’s cajun restaurant (within walking distance), toured the Avery Gardens. Our hosts were helpful, available and a wonderful part of our stay.

    Lynn2020-03-10T00:00:00Z

  • Absolutely beautiful property along the bayou Teche. Trent and Linni are gracious hosts that took time to introduce us to their home and gave fabulous advice for activities and restaurants in the area. We are sad our stay was short! Perfect spot to stay for a few days and explore the area.

    Heidi2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Linni and Trent are great people. They know the area very well. The cottage is precious and very clean. We had to cut our stay short and a couple of days later Linni called to check on us. They are really Superhosts!!!

    Debra2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Linni and Trent’s are very gracious and friendly hosts and their bungalow is electric, spotless and cozy. We really appreciated all the little touches they provided like fresh fruit and delicious, buttery breakfast croissants, as well as, many helpful sightseeing tips. The pictures of the property are true and accurate and would highly recommend staying at Linni’s place.

  • This place was way better than we expected!! My sister Bre & I truly enjoyed our stay. We didn’t need to hit Tanya up for ANYTHING, everything was right there for us. This home is SPOTLESS!!! Literally! The decor is super cute, everything is just beautiful! Tanya left us with clear instructions on how to get into the home & what to do before we checked out. Tanya also responds VERY quickly, she’s an awesome host! The home is much bigger inside than it appears on the pics! Tanya was a LIFESAVER for allowing us to stay last minute! • Perfect small town Louisiana experience. We were looking for good hiking, and with proximity to Lake Martin, a Nature Conservancy trail, and an hour drive from Chicot State Park, that's what we got. It was also convenient to some great Cajun spots, including Feed and Seed and Lafayette. Tanya was an easy host to work with and the place was cute and surprisingly spacious. I would recommend for a quiet night that is still close to great activities.

  • My parents went for their 30th Anniversary and loved it!

  • Though traveling alone, I felt immediately comfortable and safe. Cozy and charming rooms had me imagining daily life of the “Duchess”. Cocktail hour is set aside each day to cover questions and provide an array of cultural, dining and entertainment suggestions. Breakfasts are a gastronomic delight. This host genuinely cares about his guests.

  • We stayed 2 nights and were very content. Check-in was a breeze, we were met and helped up to the loft. The loft itself was exactly as pictured and very cute and cozy. Felt very warm and safe. I was unable to participate in the cocktails etc offered because I got food poisoning so stayed cozy inside haha. Would definitely stay again, and it’s a great deal as well. Thank you!

  • This spot is simply great. If you visit to Louisiana, you would be foolish to miss out on good cultural experiences and such a unique part of America. The room had a lot of fun historical pieces to it, and Ben did a great job helping you enter into the history of the place. I recommend going downstairs to meet and talk with him. He has a lot of great insight on the history of Louisiana, places to visit, and how to get the “local” perspective. Plus, the rate was fantastic and only a few minute drive to downtown. Sure, it’s not a five-star hotel but way more of an experience.

  • Best place to stay a night or two on a budget! Great host!

    Lance2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed in the Dollhouse Tower apartment and had a wonderful time. The apartment is quite quirky but I really liked the layout and the furnishings. It met all of my needs. The location is good - a few minute drive to the center of Layayette. Lafayette really surprised me - I was there on the night of the monthly Art Walk and I was quite impressed with the large number of art related stores, the fine restaurants (the Tapas place rivaled tapas restaurants I've been to in Spain) and the available music. Jean was a gracious host and do try to be there for his happy hour - I had a very tasty drink and an enjoyable lesson in cajun and zydeco music. I was awoken one of the two nights I was there by a fairly loud and extended train whistle -- other than that, all went well. I wouldn't hesitate to come back.

This is the sterling grove historical district, and the first neighborhood formed in the town. It was carved out of the charles mouton plantation which consisted of 300 acres. The district is full of turn of the century victorian mansions of plantation owners, doctors and mayors of the city from 1900 - today. It is located .5 miles from the downtown entrance on jefferson.

If you are into nature and country life, this is the place to be. The outside screened porch, you will see birds of many species. Breaux Bridge is 10-15 minutes away which includes antiquing and great Cajun cuisine. If you are interested in the seasonal festivals, downtown Lafayette is 10-15 minutes away. Other attractions include the Bird Sanctuary, Lake Martin, and if you are lucky, you can spot an Alligator! The "Bird's Nest" is the perfect stress free getaway!
Enjoy your morning coffee in the screened porch area and enjoy seeing the local birds. We are two miles from the Bird Sanctuary.
Lake Martin is a must see, 1-2 miles from our home. Its a beautiful lake with a landscape of cypress trees.

Beautiful home and beautiful bedroom with nice bathroom. I felt right at home with Monicas hospitality! Exactly what I needed after a long day of driving. I will 100% stay here again anytime I’m in the Lafayette area!!
