  • Beautiful place, great experience, I highly recommended it

  • Stacie was very responsive and a big help! Would recommend again.

  • This AirBNB is lovely! It has the benefits of being on the water, having a fantastic host (who happens to be an expert on the area), and everything you need to go out or stay in. We explored Sauk Centre (Palmer House and both thrift stores are great), traveled to Brooten for the Redhead Creamery (yeah- this is a MUST), then on to New London for Model Citizen and Goats Ridge brewing, through Osakis to Alexandria (DJ's Tap House is great, so is Carlos Creek Winery and the adjacent brewery. Stacie and her husband were so helpful and accommodating every step of the way.

  • Stacie is a very attentive host! She is quick to respond with any inquiries. She met us upon arrival and showed us around! My 2 sisters and l were welcomed with various treats which was a pleasant surprise! She is very knowledgeable about the area! The weather was not very cooperative but the lake view is great! We recommend staying here.

  • I have been staying a few weeks for a work assignment. Stacie is great! Nothing to complain about at all. They've been accommodating and friendly without being intrusive. Good people, comfortable location, gorgeous view of the lake. It's a basement apartment -not super spacious but plenty comfortable for a single person or a couple/small family. Wi-fi works great and kitchen has this retro theme too that is pretty cool. Would definitely recommend as a nice place to stay.

  • Perfect, clean little space right on the lake. Hosts were always in contact for anything needed (although we didn’t end up needing anything at all!). The value for this place was unbeatable!

    Justin2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I needed a quiet retreat to recharge our batteries. Stacie's place did not disappoint. It was a very warm and welcoming space. Stacie has done a great job of decorating and making it feel like a nice little lakehouse getaway. The lake is beautiful and surprisingly quiet. We had our own little patio to just sit outside and enjoy the view whenever we wanted. The house faces west as well, so you get sunsets over the lake every night. Having kayaks available to use was amazing. There are some great spots to explore with them. There is a grill and fire pit available to use, and Stacie even provided the makings for smores too! Stacie is also with the local chamber of commerce, so she knows the area well and she can make great recommendations if you want to explore the town. Sauk Centre is a cute little town with old fashion charm. We recommend coffee and pastries at Jitter's. The scones there were amazing!

The Maynard Log Cabin was erected by a homesteader after the civil war. We have moved and restored it and made it available for rent. It is off the grid, but it has a complete functioning kitchen, wood stove and sitting room downstairs. There are two antique beds with new mattresses upstairs. There is no electricity but the cabin is furnished with kerosene lanterns. The bathroom facilities consist of wash basins and outhouse. The cabin is surrounded by 40 acres of woods and meadows.
This log cabin is nearly 150 years old having been erected by James Maynard shortly after the Civil War. We moved and restored it and it now sits in a meadow at the edge of our woods. The fully functional kitchen features an old-fashioned kerosene stove and period furnishings. A wood stove heats the cabin on chilly mornings. Multiple kerosene lanterns provide light after dark. The two upstairs beds are genuine antiques and are furnished with handmade quilts and feather pillows. Guests have access to an outdoor fire ring and barbecue. Guests should also feel free to explore the adjacent woods and property.
The cabin is close to the Alexandria/Douglas County Lakes area as well as Lake Osakis which is well known for its fishing opportunities. The Long Prairie River is only minutes away for those who enjoy canoeing. Our Amish neighbors frequently have fresh vegetable stands and there are a couple of Amish general stores where sturdy work clothing and kitchen utensils as well as bulk foods can be purchased. Lake Charlotte in Long Prairie has a popular swimming beach
  • Second visit here and already thinking about returning in the spring. John is great to work with and it was a much needed time away. Thanks again! See you in the spring!

  • Great place to stay! Nice trails and it was pretty quiet.

    Aleksandr2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • I took my 2 boys, 7 & 17, up to this cabin for a quick weekend trip. We had a great time. It’s living in little house on the prairie but with some super upgrades, like kerosene cooking stove and backup propane (the Ingalls didn’t have those!), and a very efficient heating stove. This is a very well kept, yet rustic cabin. My boys were enamored with the place. Learning to use the kerosene lamps, reading the old books and simply having to talk to each other without competing with devices. Fantastic. Sam helped us out with getting settled and acquainted with the area. Very friendly and super helpful. We enjoyed hiking the grounds and seeing what we could see. I will definitely come back for a time of solitude. We also toured some of the Amish shopping in the area. It’s an experience for sure. We ended up buying a lot of delicious food goods, like jams and pies and produce. Been eating good all week as a result. Enjoy!

  • This place is better in person. The stars are epic, the wind chimes on the porch soothe you, even the rain on the tin roof was lovely. There are cows and roosters next door that wake you, but it all added to the fantastic vibe, and I adore this place so much I already booked it again. The check-in was great. I was traveling from the cities after work, and John arranged Samantha to check us in late. The house was warm and the lanterns were lit. It was perfect and thoughtful! My son fell asleep peacefully, even with the gentle thunder. The beds were ok, and keeping the windows cracked open lets in the breeze and the sounds outside. It’s quite lovely. The mosquitos didn’t bother us at all! I did see a bat house and plenty of dragon flies, so perhaps they are doing their jobs. Other wildlife we saw: quail, pheasant, turkeys, some other bird with a red head (it’s in the book in the cabin). We played in the creek, and my son finally forgot about his video games and we were able to spend some quality time together, reconnecting and making memories. The fall foliage was just peeking through the green. We stopped at every recommendation in the book to buy things from the Amish. We didn’t see people at a couple so we hurried off, but we did pick up a lot of homemade jams and jellies, canned pickles, fresh eggs, carrots, cucumbers, and a watermelon. Everyone in town is friendly too. I adore this place. Definitely bring your cooler of ice, possibly your own bed linens if you like them freshly laundered like I do, and you will be set. Thanks for such a great stay in such a lovely place.

  • Amazing!

    JoyAnn2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • Totally worth the cost and 100% better than tenting. The gas cook stove and burner made it very easy to cook our meals inside when it rained. The walking trails were awesome and the scenery was beautiful. Very peaceful.

    Tom2019-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our weekend. It was fun exploring the woods and feeding the four goats (we gave them leaves from outside the electric fence). We saw four sandhill cranes on a field nearby as well as two deer. (You do hear road traffic and some planes, so it is not quite like you are in the middle of nowhere.) John had a nice map with local Amish sellers/stores that we used one day and that worked out really well. We drove to Spruce Hill County Park and and enjoyed an interesting and fun hike (we saw a flock of partridges). Well stocked with firewood. It was fun to enjoy our meals on the front porch. There are several public beaches nearby (Long Prairie and near Alexandria) that you can drive to and enjoy.

COVID-19 precautions information: Surfaces are cleaned and sprayed with anti-bacterial spray. Upsala's population is 425 and solidly in farm country. It reflects our love of LOTR. Magical and restful.
We're on two acres at the edge of a small town. You'll feel like you're in the country because we're surrounded by woods and fields.
    Very quiet neighborhood.
  • Jill is such a warm and welcoming host! This was just the getaway we needed from busy life in Chicago. We particularly appreciated the cozy fireplace, Jill's cute pups, and how accessible she made yourself to us. It's a great way to feel apart from the world without actually being that far away. Thank you!

  • This place is quaint and unique. If you are a fan of The Lord of the Rings you will be in heaven. When we arrived there was music on and the essential oil diffuser was going. This little cabin is the perfect get-away. There were so many unique touches. This would definitely be a place I would like to stay at again.

  • What a fun, inspiring space to spend a Galentine ❤️ weekend. I will definitely be back. We didn’t even leave the treehouse this weekend, because it was so quaint and with the sun shining in through the stained glass windows, it was warming 🥰 I can imagine how in the warmer months,we could have bonfires and play in the shared garden. Oh, I have so many good memories of this weekend to keep me warm until next time! Such a whimsical fantasizing place. Obviously, so much care and attention went into every detail. I mean, the shower alone was a beauty. Also, all of the sleeping spaces are thoughtful of saving space. A Murphy bed? Thank you! A loft with a spiraling staircase? All of my dreams in one place. Including that it’s run in solar energy! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Thank you!!!! Thank you for sharing this great space.

COVID-19 precautions information: Surfaces are cleaned and sprayed with anti-bacterial spray. Upsala's population is 425 and solidly in farm country. This sunroom and its matching spacious bath are beautiful in all weather. It has a private entrance, full bath, laundry, and a serene setting on 2.5 acres. As "sunroom" would indicate, half of it is all glass window walls and a glass roof. Marvel at the moon, stars & sky from bed; see the very tips of the branches of the mighty oaks and pines.
The sunroom is mostly glass, including a glass ceiling to look out on the stars. It has a granite floor and is made up of two rooms: the main room, containing a queen-sized pull out bed, a drop down table, fridge, microwave; the bathroom, very spacious with double sinks and a Jacuzzi. It also includes a washer and dryer that is shared.
This neighborhood is very quiet. Light traffic, an occasional horse and rider trot by from time to time, maybe a parent and baby, joggers. Great place to ride bikes and only 8 miles from the Soo Line South bike trail. Just a mile from Cedar Lake, which offers a wide beach and a wonderful lake for wading, swimming, and sunning.

  • The stay here was very wonderful. Beautiful place, and great hosts! Jill and Joan were both so welcoming when we arrived, and made sure that everything was perfect for our stay. The rooms were small, yet everything worked so well together. The tub in the room was definitely the highlight, especially when the sun was coming through the glass roof. We would definitely come back for another stay at any of their locations!

COVID-19 precautions information: Surfaces are cleaned & sprayed with anti-bacterial spray. Upsala's population is 425 & solidly in farm country. See what the stars looks like! Property features a hot tub on fenced 2 acres, just 3 miles from Cedar Lake Memorial Campground (boating, fishing & magnificent descending beach). 27-mile Soo Line Trail offers hiking, biking & snowmobiling. Free Wi-Fi. Full bath with shower. Park, bar-n-grill & restaurant in walking distance. Diversity is most welcome.
The cottage itself is beautiful and light. Its timbers were locally harvested and it is artfully crafted and decorated, with a soaring loft area accessed by ladder, and cozy living space with fireplace. There is a very large 20' X 30' deck with chairs in the front of the cottage, a smaller, more private deck outside the back patio door, and a covered porch. The area is generally quiet and peaceful. The town welcomes you! Joan and I welcome you!
Upsala is a great little town. People are friendly and courteous. We have a wonderful meat market in town that makes their own brats--like pineapple/jalapeno--and award-winning bacon. We also have a thriving motor company, an Internet business, a good bar with excellent burgers and complimentary drinks for our guests (with the purchase of a meal), and an excellent restaurant. Hiking, biking, boating, snowmobiling are all available nearby.
  • Jill’s home was exactly what we needed! Our dogs loved running around the open yard and making friends with her dogs. The chickens were great and loved the fresh eggs in the morning!

  • Like other reviews have said, Jill and Joan provide a wonderful hospitality that’s just warm, inviting, and personable. I was so touched by the way they set the mood for a warm and cozy arrival. They were 100% available for questions and sweetly showed us around their property on our way out. We made a lovely and friendly connection! Their property is super special and so well loved. Touches of beauty everywhere, always something new to discover and wonder about. It’s a playful, calm place. I am sure we will return for more art and introspection!

  • Carmen was a very welcoming host. Her place is great, it was fun to walk around the grounds and visit the animals! She provides nice snacks, coffee and tea. It was a quiet spot, perfect location to stay the night before a work training.

    Holly2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • My experience staying with Carmen was nothing short of incredible. She was extremely responsive from my initial request, and remained communicative throughout the experience. The house is in progress, but not in a distracting way. The space is so comfortable!! The colors, the space, the furniture, the back patio, every bit of it. And Carmen is a great, hospitable, personable, even inspiring host. Thank you for an amazing comfortable experience!

  • A stylish and comfortable refuge in a peaceful woodland setting. Carmen made us feel right at home! We very much enjoyed visiting her animals and wandering around the property, it was relaxing and entertaining at the same time. Carmen was great to spend time with, and gave us plenty of space to just hang out, fabulous host! Thank you so much, it was just what we needed.

    Sarah2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Carmen is a wonderful host, and her property is beautiful - lots of animals! Comfy bed and soft towels. We used the kitchen to make dinner as well. Nice breakfast in the morning :)

  • My wife and I really enjoyed our stay with Carmen. Right from the very start she responded quickly and clearly to all of my questions. On arrival we felt welcomed and expectations were made clear. Our room was very comfortable and the shared spaces were inviting. We really loved the great deck she has on the second floor, overlooking a very peaceful backyard with lots of nature to see. Carmen has several dogs but they were totally in control our entire time there. Not a peep was heard all night long and they shouldn't be of any concern to future guests. We would definitely stay again. Thanks Carmen!

    Dave2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Carmen’s place! The living space was large and comfortable. The setting was peaceful and beautiful. Carmen was extremely helpful, flexible and friendly. Highly recommend staying here and taking advantage of the omelette breakfast option!

  • Outstanding hospitality, great conversation, thoughtful touches. Terilyn and Jim are wonderful couple and made us feel at home.

  • Teri & Jim were delightful hosts! I came into town late while on a business trip; they were gracious and accommodating. Everything was clean and cozy, and great for the price! Would stay again!

  • Expect a homely welcome and great hospitality from Teri and Jim. Great hosts, lovely home and beautiful location.

    Richard2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice host and a great place to stay!

    Andrew2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Teri’s place is relatively new on Airbnb but she manages it well. Descriptions are accurate and the property is located in a quiet neighborhood. James and Teri are both very nice people. Two caveats though. Bed pillows are very basic and I know many people who aren’t comfortable with that type; there are only shampoos that look like coming from a motel. Not sure if it’s the norm in the region but this is not something I expect given the high price after the cleaning fee.

We are located just outside of town. Just walking distance from boat launch and fishing pier on Lake Geneva and Swimming beach on Lake Le Homme Deu. Just a few minutes from downtown shopping and dining on Broadway. Just minutes away from the local winery and distillery. Private upstairs apartment, above our garage, with full kitchen, bath, and laundry. Entry is though our garage but it is a completely, private space. We do live right near the train tracks, the train travels past often.
This is an upstairs, private apartment above our garage. Entry is up a flight of stairs inside our garage, but has a door with a lock. There is also a door for entry at the side of our garage so you can come and go as you please.
  • Great little apartment above the garage. Private entrance is nice, and we liked the cozy living room even though we were unable to make much use of it.

    Keith2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Book this place if you’re visiting the Alexandria area, you won’t be disappointed! Misty is extremely responsive and their above garage apartment is the perfect spot for a quick weekend get away! My girlfriend and I had the best weekend away and we were able to relax both nights as if we were at home in this wonderful little apartment!

    Jeremy2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • This spot was very conveniently located and felt very private. The apartment was clean and cozy, and a covered garage was an extra benefit during a cold December week!

    Rachel2019-12-20T00:00:00Z
  • Nice, clean space and close to where we needed to be. Perfect little spot for two.

    Brian2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • Incredible value and comfortable, roomy accommodations—especially for just two people! We appreciated the garage space and the easy drive to and from town. It was so much better than staying in a hotel. We did hear the train, but it wasn’t obnoxious by any means. With family in the Alex area, we hope to stay here again!

    Kate2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • We rented Misty’s apartment for the night and really enjoyed our stay. Our kids played in the backyard on their trampoline and swing set. The place was very clean and perfect for our short visit.

  • A really lovely cabin!! Great for a winter getaway- we snowshoed on the little lake. Very cozy, kitchen had what we needed for a group meal, and the wine fridge was a great addition. The best part was the beds- they were really comfortable! The hosts were very responsive too. We really enjoyed our weekend.

    Lindsay2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time! The place was very clean & had everything we needed. The big table was great for playing games & fit everyone for meals. We had a awesome time sledding down the hill in the back!

  • The place was great and made for a perfect weekend getaway.

    Jacob2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Robin was helpful and accommodating with my many questions. The house was the right size for our family of 9. It is comfortable, homey and artistic. The kitchen was a great set up for a family who likes to cook. The view was an awesome place to watch the snowstorm and the kids and grandkids had fun sledding down the big hill.

    Lisa2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Robin's place is great. My family and I (and two dogs!) had a long weekend after Christmas and spent the whole time hanging out in the cabin. Robin was very responsive to the few questions we had, and even was understanding when I accidentally locked her maintenance person out of the house when we checked out (oops). The basement got quite cold but was fine after some adjustments to the upstairs vents and using a space heater (which was already in the house). Robin was very clear that there was plenty of cooking utensils but no condiments/food supplied. We did end up needing to buy even salt and pepper. Robin was very straightforward about this - just something to consider for those purchasing before traveling to the cabin. Overall, I highly recommend staying at Robin's place. All of the rooms were beautiful and updated, and the master on the first floor was one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in.

    Erin2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Great and clean space, love that it's also only 2 hours out from Twin Cities. Robin and Eric even designed the place to have Christmas lights and a tree for our event.

  • The Cottage Nest is a classic Minnesota lake cottage, warmly furnished with a collection of antiques and eclectic memorabilia that almost make you think your grandma still lives there (and the grand kids visit often). We had a great time staying there while visiting family in the area. The grounds are charming and well suited for enjoying a family get together, a post-hunt bonfire, or quietly relaxing among nature while reading. We felt very comfortable at the Cottage Nest. The hosts are very responsive and helpful. We had no problems cooking, doing laundry, or anything like that. There are very few places to stay in the vicinity, so we were really fortunate to have found this great value!

    Jeremy2018-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • My sister in law and I stayed here with our 4 kids while the 3 eldest kids went to day camp at Hemker Park and Zoo. It was a great location for making the trip back and forth to get the kids and having plenty of room to play in the yard or go across the street to the lake when they got home. It's what you expect from an old cottage/farmhouse. A bit rustic but everything worked and it has a good bit of charm. Laurie was very quick at responding to questions and very helpful in getting me back some things my daughter forgot during our stay. The kids thought it was a very cool experience.

  • What a beautiful, historical home! The hosts set us up efficiently and made the process so easy. They had so many thoughtful touches in the house like tissues and fans in every room, bottles of water and teas, and extra blankets and pillows if we had needed them. The house had a wonderful feel and the area charming. We loved it!

  • We had such a wonderful stay at Debra’s bnb. I booked her place for my husband and I and a group of our friends for a wedding. Although I didn’t get to meet Debra in person, because we got in so late, she was a very gracious and accommodating host. 5 Stars for excellent communication and hospitality! The space is cozy and beautifully and simply decorated. The kitchen has everything you need for making meals. The beds are nice and firm. All around a 5 Star Plus experience!

  • Carmen’s place is a beautiful custom home that’s still in the process of being finished. Her accommodations are beautiful and the setting is tranquil. A great place to stay if you love animals and nature! Always fun to see what projects she has on the go! We love staying there and are happy to call her a friend. ;)

Warm and comfortable space, close to downtown In Alexandria. Noonans Park is close by, and 1 mile from the bike trail. Alexandria is easy to get to but hard to leave.
This bedroom is in the lower level of the house.. There is also a living room space to enjoy. A workspace is available or simply join in on a current puzzle being worked on the pool table. Kitchen is available for your use, and is stocked with items to make your breakfast. The sofa bed is strictly for small children as it would be quite uncomfortable for adults.
Our neighborhood is quiet, and easy walking to Noonans Park. Centrally located so anywhere in town you want to go is within a mile or two.

  • Love this place. What was unexpected (in a good way), was all the little flourishes and touches, from the cozy blankets next to the couch to the wall decorations and exterior landscaping, every effort was made to make it feel like a cabin home away from home. The beds were comfy and kitchen supplies were abundant and of high quality. Even dry logs for the fire!
