A period detached country cottage with great character and charm and modern amenities in the heart of Suffolk near Bury St Edmunds and Cambridge. We have successfully hosted family reunions, wedding parties, friend and family get-togethers and hen parties. Set in a rural village, bracing country walks abound, most ending in splendid country pubs -- indeed an award-winning country pub is at hand. Accommodation for 8 - 12 persons (stretching to 14) @ an average cost of £30-45pp.
The Cottage sleeps 9 comfortably and two large sofas with bedding & sleeping bags provided allow 10/12 within the House at a push. An Annex room above the garage sleeps an additional 3 with shower, bathroom and tea/coffee facilities, and is available for a modest additional cleaning charge. This is a charming country cottage in a pristine rural setting. This period detached property offers relaxed, comfortable and modern accommodation with many period features and great character. Perfect for weekend getways as the accommodation is quite flexible and lends itself very well to a reunion of friends and family groups of all ages.
Bury St Edmunds is a charming market town with an impressive ruined Abbey set in a great park. The town itself is bustling with many attractive shops and great restaurants and pubs. Try a pint in The Nutshell, Britain's smallest pub in the town centre. Moyses Hall Museum also in the centre has many local curiosities. A range of excellent shopping is available in Bury. Market days are Wednesdays and Saturdays when trader stalls take over the town centre selling fresh local produce, cheese, meats and assorted other goods. There is also a local farm shop, complete with tea room, in Depden, the next village beyond Rede.
  • We had a fantastic stay with the host very helpful and the house lovely. I actually don't think the pictures do the house justice in terms of size of the rooms and how aesthetically pleasing the house is.

  • I spent a weekend in this lovely cottage to celebrate my 60th birthday with 5 friends. We had an amazing time relaxing in this well equipped, cosy and spacious accommodation. Everything we needed was here. A nice touch was the welcome package which included snacks and Prosecco. The Plough pub was recommended by Eric and did not disappoint. We had a delicious Sunday lunch and the staff were so friendly. We would love to stay here again.

    Sally2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Eric’s place is charming cosy and in a beautiful location. There was plenty of space for our group and we loved being all together in the large dining room. The local pub (The Plough) is fantastic we had a delicious lunch here. There are scenic walks from the door and pretty Bury St Edmunds is a short drive away. Thanks for a lovely New Years break!

  • Eric's house was the perfect place for our family Christmas. The photos in the listing don't do it justice. The space is warren-like, with three sitting room spaces (one with a fire place) and a dining room on the ground floor. The master bedroom above the snug sitting room is completely dreamy; high, beamed ceiling and an en-suite shower. Just fab. Above the kitchen are two bedrooms, a guest bathroom and an office with a single bed in it. We didn't use the annex but the garage utility room was great for food prep/storage and laundry etc. The kitchen has everything you need - big double oven with separate grill and tonnes of pots, pans and plates. Sound travels in the house, so don't gossip about your sister or do anything else noisy, to save blushes. If you're tall, practice ducking before staying as it's a historic house with some very low beams and ceilings. There isn't much in the village within walking distance... apart from a pub, which happens to be possibly THE friendliest pub I have EVER been to (I've been to lots) and opposite the house is a red phone box, repurposed as a tiny library - so you really have all you need within a few steps of the house. In short this is a great place for get-togethers, big meals and chats by the fire.

  • This is a great place to stay out in the country, a stone’s throw from a pub with great food.

    Melissa2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic house in a great location. Full of character have to watch the low beams!

    Kate2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is such a beautiful house and was perfect for our weekend away with friends. The dinner room very much became our hub and it was the perfect size for our group.

  • We had such a lovely stay at this gorgeous, historic house. The home was a wonderful base for our weekend and the surrounding area is just beautiful. The hospitality was perfect and I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks for such a superb space to the host.

Can I please ask that any potential guest considering a visit, follow the guidelines as set out by the government which includes frequent hand washing and using an alcohol based hand sanitizer. The house dates from 1570 and is the former Dairy Farm for the Ickworth Estate. Guests can easily walk into the Park from the house. The room is on the top floor and features beams and windows on both sides. The house is 200 metres off the road, down a drive. It is situated less than three miles from the centre of Bury St Edmunds. Although we don't provide breakfast, a toaster, with bread, butter and home-made marmalade is provided as well as tea, coffee, milk and fruit juice.
The room is ideal for couples or single people. Sorry, no dogs!
Guests can walk into the National Trust's Ickworth Park just by crossing one field from our house. You will probably spot deer there. It's a beautiful landscaped area and Ickworth House, with its famous Rotunda, is about half an hour's walk away.
  • Extremely clean, warm and extremely trusting couple. Lovely couple who make you feel at home from the get go. Navigating the potholes on small slip road well worth the experience

The Old Forge Annexe is a walker's or artist's retreat. A cosy private annexe to our country cottage with fabulous views over the village green. It is very peaceful and you will wake to the sound of birdsong not traffic. The village is one of the highest points in Suffolk so there are lots of fantastic walks nearby. Escape to our rural idyll and relax knowing that the bustling and pretty market town of Bury St Edmunds is only 15 minutes drive away.
Breakfast included for the first morning. Coffee, tea, sugar, milk also provided. There is a kettle, toaster, combination microwave and fridge. For other meals there is the very well regarded village country pub The Queens Head just two minutes walk away and our local town Bury St Edmunds has lots of different cafes and both chain and independent restaurants for all tastes.
Nearby are National Trust's Ickworth House, as well as historic villages like Lavenham and Long Melford. Cambridge is 45 minutes drive (or take the train from Bury). Racing at Newmarket is reached by only 25 minutes drive. Or just explore the many footpaths around the nearby villages and enjoy a relaxing drink or meal at a country pub. The Queens Head in our village is a quintessential 14th century free house which serves excellent food every evening except Mondays and Tuesdays (and lunch Friday-Sunday). Our local market town of Bury St Edmunds (voted best place to live in the East of England April 2019) has many independent and high street shops, cafes and restaurants; the historic Abbey Gardens and Cathedral; as well as two cinemas and the Theatre Royal.
  • Our stay at Sams was lovely, we were greeted by herself and shown around the annexe which was very clean and cosy, thoroughly enjoyed stay and would recommend to anyone looking for a quiet night away!

  • This cute one bedroom suite was cozy and lovely for my friend and I. The local pub was right next door and there were plenty of good spots to walk to in the area.

  • A perfect location with beautiful walks from the doorstep. The space has been thoughtfully converted, was very clean and feels spacious yet cosy. The kitchen was well provided with new equipment and a combination microwave that worked well, though the lack of a hob might be a consideration for longer stays. Sam was very friendly and communicated promptly. We would definitely recommend this place, thank you Sam!

Located off a quiet country lane, this barn annexe is a great place to unwind in peaceful surroundings. The spacious enclosed garden has uninterrupted far reaching views of this wonderful constable countryside. There is an abundance of foot paths and wild life all around the property and only a 10 mins walk to the village of Hartest which has a great country pub. Close to market town of Bury St Edmunds and villages of Lavenham and Long Melford this is a perfect place to explore suffolk.
The property is set back from a quiet country lane at the end of sweeping driveway. With separate access from the main house, leading to an entrance hall with plenty of space for shoes, coats, boots and even pets. There is a large main lounge/dining area with 49 inch smart TV, comfy corner sofa and pitched ceiling with beams making the whole area feel very spacious. Leading from the living area there is a bathroom with bath and shower attachment, kitchen and stairs to the twin bedroom which is in the eaves of the barn. This room has far reaching country views and is ideal for children. The large master bedroom has king size bed, open pitched ceiling and countryside views. BBQ and seating area is located in own private garden to the front of the Annexe. The surrounding fields are a real haven for wildlife including resident Barn owls, little owls and at night badgers passing through. There is also lots of wild deer. Care should be taken when driving up the lane especially at night to make sure they are avoided.
Hartest is a beautiful village set around a picturesque, traditional Suffolk village green, complete with award wining pub serving great food with a large garden and children's play-frame to the rear. Plenty of footpaths all around with stunning scenery. Bury St Edmunds is a very pretty market town with an abundance of independent shops, bars and restaurants, historical buildings, a cathedral and gardens, and is located approximately 20 minutes away by car. The pretty (large) village of Long Melford is an approximate 10 minute drive; it offers a good choice of coffee shops, pubs, independent shops, PO, pharmacy, general stores and a Co-Op. The famous, historical wool town of Lavenham is also a short drive away. Should you wish to go further afield, the University City of Cambridge is an approximate 45 minute drive. There is a butcher on the village green and a good general store and PO in nearby Glemsford.

  • A spotless house with a giant fenced private garden. Nice rooms with a wonderful sofa for the TV. Small but fully equipped kitchen with microwave, oven and dishwasher. Very cordial landlords who live behind the cottage, but due to the location of both houses there is maximum privacy. Ideal house to go with a four-legged friend, old towels, crib and a dog shower for muddy legs (in a shed near the house) are available. From the house you can take hours of walks through the typical English countryside. We would like to return soon!

I would recommend staying here if you are looking for somewhere to stay in the area. Perfect for us and only 10-15mins drive from Newmarket. Tks

  • Tracy and her husband are fantastic hosts and offer their beautiful home as a b&b. Really comfortable beds, fantastic facilities and an outstanding breakfast in addition to giving us a lift from the racecourse-this place and our stay could not be faulted. Would love to go back and would recommend this place as a great location to stay. The local pub in the village, The star, is a great spot for some really good home cooked food.

The Old Piggery is located in one of the prettiest villages in Suffolk. Famous for being an Estate Village, which was once owned by the Hervey family who lived in Ickworth House, which is now owned by the National Trust. The village is just 2 miles from the Historic Market Town of Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. Horringer is home to Ickworth House, home of the historic and eccentric Hervey (pronounced Harvey) family. Set in 1,500 acres of grounds, which seem to go on forever, the house is a giant rotunda full of famous paintings and has been under the care of the National Trust since 1956.The family are also associated with Harveys Bristol Cream sherry, and it was the 4th Earl of Bristol who created Ickworth in 1795. Latter-day celebrities in the family include model and socialite Lady Victoria Hervey. It was once said, When God created the human race, he made men, women and Herveys. As well as works by the likes of Gainsborough (a local lad), Titian and Velasquez, the house boasts Georgian silver and Regency furniture. If you want to walk the grounds as well, Ickworth becomes a day-long outing. Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk is a unique and dazzling historic gem. An important market town with a richly fascinating heritage, the striking combination of medieval architecture, elegant Georgian squares and glorious Cathedral and Abbey gardens provide a distinctive visual charm. With prestigious shopping, an award-winning market, plus variety of attractions and places to stay, Bury St Edmunds is under two hours from London and very convenient for Cambridge.
  • Great place to stay and would highly recommend.

    Matthew2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • The Piggery is excellent accommodation, lovely and clean and modern. The fixtures and fittings are all excellent and the linens and towels are of the finest quality and laundered to a high standard. The garden is full of cottage plants and the windows being low level make the garden look amazing. The outside seating is south facing so we enjoyed lots of sunshine. The proximity to the town is just perfect and the local shops are just a short drive away. It is a very quiet property even though it is near a busy main road. We spent 3 weeks at The Piggery and would highly recommend it to anyone.

  • A truly incredible place to stay if you are in the Bury St Edmunds area. 10 minute drive to Bury which is a lovely town. Cambridge is only 30 minutes away too. The cottage itself is exceptionally clean with some modern features and some quaint older features. Full of all the necessities you could possibly need for a stay. The pictures don’t do it justice! The area is just beautiful and Caroline is always on hand with a quick response to your message. Cant fault the cottage one bit! 😁

    Becky2019-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • The Old Piggery provides a cosy, well-planned and equipped space - everything worked fine and Caroline had provided some 'treats' to welcome us as well as a starter supply of essentials. As mentioned in the description, there is a bit of a walk from the car-parking space to the cottage - though for a short stay this didn't really trouble us. Caroline responded speedily to enquiries when I contacted her and we had a pleasant stay.

    Clare2019-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage with very high spec facilities - fab kitchen and bathroom. Very comfortable bed. Our hosts left us a lovely bottle of wine and biscuits which was a thoughtful touch. Cottage near to the beautiful Ickeworth Park which was great for our little dogs. Would highly recommend for a break away

  • We have a super stay at The Old Piggery. The cottage was spotlessly clean, super modern facilities, warm and very peaceful and private. Caroline was a wonderful host and ensured we had everything we needed. Wonderful location for Ickworth house and gardens and so lovely to find a super place that is also dog friendly. Would definitely stay again.

  • Penny and Richard were perfect hosts, very welcoming. House is set within some stunning scenery. The room I stayed in was immaculate, nice comfy bed with a large en-suite bathroom. Highly recommend paying Hawstead farm a visit if you are in the area. Not forgetting Lilly the friendly Labrador.

  • Penny was helpful from the first time I messaged asking for advice on taxi's into Bury St Edmunds. On the day of our stay we arrived before check in and Penny and Richard were happy to accommodate this so we could get more out of our day, they gave us a coffee whilst we waited for our taxi into town and gave us a list of recommended local restaurants and pubs. We had a great day out and the room was incredibly spacious, clean, and lovely and warm with gorgeous views. Breakfast was very yummy too. Thank you for being great hosts and welcoming us into your home.

    Gemma2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful location, Penny and Richard are great hosts. Our 4 year old daughter loved it! Gorgeous home, highly recommended.

    Kate2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Penny and Richard were such welcoming hosts, we immediately felt at home and relaxed. They suggested a local pub (The White Horse) for dinner and otherwise left us to it. The room was huge, the bed was incredibly comfortable, the bath was deep and the road outside was quiet, all in all a great escape for relaxation. Lily the dog was lovable and chilled, loved a bit of attention. This morning for breakfast, Penny had put out a different breads, granola, muesli, yoghurts and jams (all made from the grounds, a local bakery) announced to ‘DIY’ which we loved, as we if were in our own home, it was delicious. Penny recommended we visited a local National Trust house (Ickworth) - which we spent a few hours in before heading back to London. We’d 100% visit again if in the area, and would also be open to being adopted by Penny and Richard so we could live there permanently. Thank you again,

    Alastair2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Cant recommend highly enough. Accommodation is superb, you will not be disappointed, with Penny & Richard the absolute perfect hosts.

    David2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • The hosts were incredibly welcoming and hospitable. The house is gorgeous, with beautiful views and amenities. There were lots of nice touches we really enjoyed - like the homemade plum and blackberry jams - and we were helped in time of need as Penny shuttled us to catch our departing train! Overall, lovely stay!

  • We were welcomed by Lucilla and Will, they told us about local pubs and restaurants and telephoned to book us a table. Breakfast was just what we wanted and needed, but don't expect a full blown English. The bathroom is lovely, with plenty of hot water, but there is no shower if that is important to you. We weren't that bothered. Overall we really enjoyed our two night at Waldergrave Farm and would hugely recommend it to get away from it all. V

Tastefully refurbished and modernized, but incorporating a wealth of original and period features. Vaulted ceiling with exposed beams, a large oak balcony mezzanine bedroom over looking a spacious living area with under floor heating. Well equipped kitchen and shower room.
The pump house is a self contained with a pleasant garden. There is a designated private parking space
The Pump House is a great place to unwind in peaceful surroundings. situated between the historic town of Bury St Edmunds and the famous Ickworth Estate, a 20 min walk to both locations
  • Recently had a lovely stay here. Fantastic location, close to the town centre. Quiet, with a great outdoors area for our dog. Heather provided some very useful tips on places to visit. Would definitely stay again if in the area!

  • Great home from home, warm and relaxing environment. Would most definitely return.

    Justin2019-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • Very spacious for a couple. Private gated parking just in front of the door. Easy check in with key safe. Essentially one very large room with a toilet and shower under the stairs that lead up to a mezzanine for the double bed and a dressing area. The main part of the room is divided into a kitchen dining area which is decently equipped and a lounge area with a large TV, sofa and coffee table. The stairs are steep and very narrow and the eaves make it difficult to manoeuvre around the bed, but these are the only drawbacks. The place is clean and has character. It is attached to a large house next door but has its own entrance and drive on the other side so feels very private.

  • The Victorian Pump House was just as described in the listing. I was working in the area and this was an excellent accommodation for me to use as an overnight base. It was clean and had everything I needed. Wfi was fine, which was useful as I needed to work some evenings. It doesn't have a freezer, so you need to plan around this - not a particular problem for me though.

    Richard2019-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely house, really well located! We wanted a house not too far away from a town but still wanted it to be quiet. This place done both those things!

    Daniel2019-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Heather’s Victorian pumphouse. The place is very cute and had everything we needed. The host was great and allowed us to check out late and also gave us tips for the local area and even offered to give us a lift to the wedding venue we were travelling to. Would highly recommend staying here!

Our home is close to historic Lavenham and Long Melford, towns: Bury St Edmunds and Sudbury. For great shopping and culture, Cambridge is under an hour away. You’ll love it here because of its tranquil countryside location and comfy double beds with Egyptian cotton bed linen. Our home is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, and families (with kids). You are welcome to use our tennis court, however, don't bring your low-slung sports car as the house is down a long bumpy track!
  • Emma is a fantastic host and has a beautiful home in a beautiful location. Breakfast was lovely and the living area was brilliant for us to chill in the evening whilst our 2 year old was in bed. Thanks for everything.

Downstairs sitting room with a wood burner, large twin room with a pair of double beds, and own bathroom. Very friendly hosts and delicious continental breakfast in big family kitchen overlooking the garden. We have stayed here twice and hope to return.

  • This is a great little find. A self contained bedsit above a garage which is separate from the main house. The bedsit itself had everything I needed for a 3 night stay whilst working in the area. Reasonable value for money, good amenities and extremely close to BSE but with off street parking. Highly recommended.

  • The Loft is a very well appointed studio on the outskirts of Bury St Edmonds only a short drive from the city centre. The area is peaceful. We enjoyed a lovely lunch at nearby Ballantyne Health Spa, literally 5 minutes away. Plenty to see and do including National Trust Ickworth House.

  • The Loft is an amazing place to stay with lovely hosts who made me feel very welcome. Everything had been thought of to make this a comfortable stay. The kitchen was well equipped, the living area was ideal to relax in and the double bed ensured a good night’s sleep. The Loft is above the owner’s garage with it’s own separate entrance and is in a very quiet neighbourhood. The town centre is a ten minute drive away and there is a local bakery and small convenience store 5 minutes walk away. I would definitely recommend this home away from home.

The house is a gem and the studio very comfortable. Julie and Peter were very warm and friendly hosts and we wish we could have stayed longer. Julie's homemade goodies in the fridge a real treat and nice welcome. We loved our long weekend at the Hamptons.

Spotlessly clean, welcoming goodies for breakfast, and plenty of tips for visiting in the local area. Everything about this great place exceeded our expectations.

  • Great place nicely appointed. All the amenities and accommodation as described. Lovely garden and conservatory. Nicely located between Bury St Edmunds, Lavenham and Long Melford. Julie and Peter are definitely super hosts, very welcoming, helpful and unintrusive. The little hamper including tasty fresh homemade bread? Great with the soft fresh butter and homemade jam with a cuppa. We brought our own granola and the jam was also a great compliment to the Greek yoghurt.

Our charming 16th Century thatched cottage has flexible accommodation for 6/7 adults. Modern well equipped kitchen & bathroom. Private staircases lead to Bedroom 1 - double bed + occasional single & Bedroom 2 - twin beds each with en-suite WCs. The Garden Room is EITHER third downstairs bedroom (with kingsize bed OR 2 singles) or an additional Sitting Room (for 4 or less guests). The Main Lounge with log burner for cosy winter evenings. Secure, private, sunny rear garden with lawn and patios.
The Rabbit Hutch is an historic Grade II Listed thatched cottage in beautiful Suffolk countryside. Our charming country cottage offers peaceful, unique and characterful period features with many modern comforts making it perfect for getaways. This picturesque detached cottage is charming inside and out making a romantic retreat for couples. For larger parties it has comfortably slept up to 7 adults (a third single was requested and added to The Garden Room). Bedroom 1 has an occasional single bed ideal for a child. The Rabbit Hutch is the perfect destination for family holidays, weekend escapes for groups of all ages and also an unusual base for a business trip!
The quiet country village of Hawstead is an idyllic setting for any getaway. We are set in the picturesque Suffolk countryside, boasting beautiful views and wonderful walking and cycling routes with a fantastic cafe and bike shop at the centre of the village. Nearby villages offer many great local country pubs and restaurants, additional to those in the town itself. Bury St. Edmunds is a charming market town, bustling with a range of excellent shops, pubs and restaurants suitable for all occasions. Market days are Wednesday and Saturday, when the centre becomes filled with stalls trading fresh local produce and assorted goods. In addition, once a year our Christmas market takes place in late November which attracts stalls and shoppers from all over the country. Located within the town are many places of interest, such as the Greene King Brewery which produces award-winning beers and offers interesting tours and supplies local pubs like to Nutshell (the smallest pub in Britain). The impressive history of our town is apparent throughout; simply wandering through the range of unique beautiful buildings in the medieval grid; visiting the museums, theatre or art galleries; or exploring the stunning cathedral, gardens and abbey ruins at the heart of the town makes a wonderful day out.
  • Quaint and charming cottage but large enough to accommodate extended family. Host Helen is very helpful and hospitable, location is great for trips to Lavenham, Dedham and other great places to visit in Suffolk. Would definitely recommend for a weekend country break.

    David2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage was the perfect place to stay for a business trip for 3 people. We stayed here for 2 weeks and never found a bad word to say about it. We were able to drop our bags off before check in monday morning so we didnt have to take them to the office and the host kept in constant contact throughout the stay and was very accommodating, even checking in personally to the cottage before we left to see if we enjoyed the stay and for recommendations. We never found anything that we needed for daily living that wasnt available in the cottage and there was a vast a mount of extras for dining and cooking etc. We were even greeted with essentials such as fruit, milk and a bottle of wine on arrival. The cottage was nice enough to live in and we all agreed there would be no issues returning on a non-work related trip in the future. The place was clean and tidy, had a homely feel with the living room and log burner, dining room and the addition of or own bedrooms and toilets made it easy to relax of a night. We got a taxi into the town a few times and all times it cost anywhere between £6-10 so it's very close to any bars and restaurants you might be interested in. I would recommend this cottage to family, friends and anyone looking to stay in the area. 10/10.

    Victoria2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Helens cottage is beautiful! Spending Christmas away from home could have been tricky but kitchen was stacked with utensils, lovely welcome pack and plenty of glasses etc. Living room was well used as was dining room and island in kitchen, a really nice social area. Helen supplied more wood when we needed it for the fire, it was one of the main reasons we stayed at the cottage as it looked so cosy so the fire was a big thing for us...a very enjoyable stay! Thank you Helen!

Cute, cozy and very English 16th-century cottage, ideal in winters with its open fire as well as summers with its spacious private garden.
A lovely 16th Century Cottage country retreat, set at the top of a hill overlooking the most quintessentially English village of Hartest. Only 20 minutes drive from the thriving historic, market town of Bury St Edmunds. The Cottage is a quaint three-bedroom cottage with beautiful period features including exposed beam ceilings and an inglenook fireplace, which can be enjoyed by guests. There are three bedrooms and double sofa bed downstairs The garden very beautiful featuring vast arrays of flowers and trees and a carp pond There is comfortable seating where you can sit and enjoy the peaceful tranquility over a glass of wine. There is a cat living in the property, he is OK with dogs if you wish to bring a dog and very friendly.
The village of Hartest dates back to before 1086 and features in the Domesday Book. This is the most picturesque quintessential English village, nestled on the village green, with a fabulous gastro pub, butcher, a vineyard, a bell ringing medieval church, incredible countryside ideal for walks, cycling and horse riding. Hartest is a truly tranquil place, where it is a daily occurrence to encounter deer, owls and other wild life. There is little traffic and local residents are very friendly. You can meet some interesting characters in local pub, which by the way has its own brewery and fabulous food. 15 min by car there is a beautiful town called Long Melford with two impressive stately homes and a street with cute tea rooms, several galleries and antique shops. If you are a keen cyclist there are no end to breathtaking cycling routes and a brilliant cycling hire shop and cafe only 3 miles away. If you fancy venturing out, the beach is only an hour away and so is Cambridge, with its impressive University and museums. 20 min north of the village is a famous market town of Bury St Edmunds with its beautiful Abbey and Abbey gardens and a National Trust Ickworth Stately home and park. Its also worth visiting the historic village of Lavenham with its charming half-timber cottages and an impressive Guild Hall.
  • Lovely little cottage, comes with its own cat, which was an added bonus for us! Photos and description of amenities not 100% accurate, there was no piano, no music room and other little things missing. Nevertheless, we made do with what we found and enjoyed the simplicity and tranquility of the cottage.

    Susanne2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful spacious old cottage. Great facilities, could easily spend longer here. Steep stairs but the kids enjoyed climbing them and being supervised. We were 2 couples and kiddies from 18 months, 3yrs and 5 yrs. Could happily fit in 2 large travel cots. Easy walk to the playground and pub. Nice walks nearby. Cat was friendly and put up with the kids (again supervised). Had a great time and would def stay there again.

  • Marta's place was outstanding- I have been staying at air b n bs for several years now and this one was by far the best. It far exceeded our expectations on every level, it was sparkling clean, cosy and perfect for our little family reunion. Miaow was friendly and welcoming, and we all fell in love with him! I did not want to leave. It is quiet and a perfect place to stay.

  • This is a beautiful old cottage with loads of character in the Suffolk countryside. We were so lucky with the weather and were able to make the most of the garden as well. The cat was very friendly and we managed to keep him and next door's cat off the nest of baby blackbirds in the hedge whilst we were there. The house is nicely equipped and has lots of spaces to sit. We had a wonderful time.

    Nicola2019-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • This is such a lovely cottage in a peaceful location. The layout is great, and so 5 of us stayed really comfortably and with space. It is packed with character and Marta’s lovely paintings, and the garden was perfect to relax in the sun (and bounce on the trampoline). My only note would be the steep stairs. Not a problem for us, but tricky I imagine if you are less mobile. A lovely stay. Thanks Marta.

The peaceful nature of our home attracts regular visitors including fallow deer, an abundance of squirrels, pheasant, partridge and a multitude of different species of birds congregate and mix together, which is fascinating to watch. The West Room is spacious and bright with a very comfortable king size bed made up with quality, scented and crisp bedlinen, down duvet and a selection of pillows The ensuite bathroom has a large walk in shower, separate bath (floral salts provided), heated towel rail and large fluffy towels (absorbent!) Breakfast is Continental, but more complex ... Tea and coffee can be made in your room My delight will be you leaving our home feeling quietly nurtured and refreshed :>)
Surrounded by fields, the home's nearest neighbour is half a mile away. The town of Bury St Edmunds is a short drive. Walk through the park to a choice of two great pubs in The Six Bells and The Beehive, then stroll back by the light of the moon.
  • Amazing !!! Koko’s place is a dream. This was my most favourate location in England. We were greeted by Koko and Mike and their beautiful doggy Bella. They made a nice tour around the very original house and garden. We loved the secret gin & tonic tree house hiding behind a huge cedar tree with great views over the rolling countryside. There were many birds and squirrels and pheasants in the garden. The view was absolutely stunning! Our bedroom room was surprising us with luxury scented bed sheets, so comfortable and relaxing. I enjoyed soaking in the bath of rose petals and salted water and drying with the big white fluffy towels. The cottage is located in a beautiful secluded area where we had a lovely long walk. Mike made us an amazing Chateaubriand dinner which we enjoyed eating on a beautiful terrace with a fire lighting outside under the moonlight and the magic of many deers appearing on the grass in front of us to feed. Next morning because my boyfriend was recovering from an operation, Koko prepared a great green juice with lots of nutricious healing green vegetables along with a magnificent varied breakfast. We will never forget that dinner and breakfast at their place and lovely energy around. We would highly recommend staying there to anyone who wants a relaxing, recovering, healing and romantic experience. I want to come back with all my family and friends. Absolutely made life long memories during our stay.

It gave me to opportunity to recover and rest in a way that I desperately needed. The hosts are fabulous, full of knowledge and make your time here exactly what you need! This spot is truly a GEM!

  • Magical, Beautiful, Full of light and Hospitality. There are so many words that could describe the amazing visit to KoKo's wonderful 200-year-old cottage. The host and hostess are kind, thoughtful and full of great topics to keep one interested while at the cottage. The grounds are the most beautiful with flowers blooming everywhere, and the home is so cozy and relaxing. She is a great cook and baker and will surprise you with some homemade goodies that are delicious and healthy. I think one needs to let go of stress and worry when you enter the cottage and do not pick it up again. This place is a refuge for those who want to relax and enjoy the peace of the countryside, good food, and a gracious host and hostess. When in England again I would love to give my husband this comforting retreat. Enjoy, all who stay there.

  • Kook was a fantastic host, full of useful tips about the local area, and the place is simply lovely!

    Valerian2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • My father and I had such an enjoyable stay at Koko's fantastic home. Communication was perfect when arranging the trip and nothing was too much trouble for our host. We were offered a bespoke vintage cream tea upon arrival which turned out to be the most lavish and delicious we have ever experienced, served by a log fire in the sumptuous living room. It was my father's birthday the following day and it was the perfect way to get in a celebratory mood. Both bed rooms were extremely nice and well appointed with comfortable beds and en-suite bathrooms - towels and tea and coffee making facilities provided. Breakfast was served in the serenity of Koko's beautiful garden and was made up of a variety of fresh fruit, porridge with many toppings, freshly baked soda bread and croissants. Koko's home is the perfect place to unwind in luxury and a great base to explore the surrounding countryside. Koko emailed a list of local attractions before arrival but our time was short unfortunately. Highly recommended though is a trip to nearby Ickworth House which we did visit, brilliantly run by the National Trust. Thanks for everything, Francis

    Francis2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Warm welcome, very comfortable elegant rooms, delicious healthy breakfast and generous offer to cook a wonderful evening meal for us.. well worth taking up if offered!

    Naomi2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • We had the most wonderful stay here with Koko. Super comfortable bed, super helpful host, beautiful rooms and decorations, delightful and peaceful environment, and fantastic breakfast with linen and china served in the sunny garden with views of the rolling Suffolk hills! And on top of all that Koko was so very helpful and kind. We spent the evening before sitting on the outdoor sofa watching the sun go down with a glass of prosecco, and then enjoyed the magic of watching the roe deer grazing just in front of the house. We just wish we could have spent longer with Koko and been able to take advantage of the beautiful walks from her house. We will definitely plan to stay longer next time. All in all I would say that our stay outdid a four star hotel. Very highly recommended.

Weavers is a Grade 11 listed thatched cottage of historical interest in Suffolk. In the late 1800’s Cadbury's, the famous chocolatier, chose just 12 cottages across Great Britain to feature on their finest chocolate boxes, of which Weavers is one. Close to Cambridge, Newmarket and Bury St Edmunds, yet set in a rural location, it’s a lovely home to 'escape' to. Weavers is truly a house for all seasons. The summer roses in the garden are breathtaking and in the winter, there is nowhere more cosy!
*We currently have availability for New Years 2019. A 3 night minimum stay applies over this festive period* *A 10% DISCOUNT APPLIES FOR STAYS OF 7 NIGHTS OR MORE* Weavers is a timber framed thatched cottage, full of character. It’s quirky, charming and idyllic! In the summer it’s stunning with its beautiful garden and pretty flowers. In the Winter, there is nowhere more cosy or more quintessentially ‘English’ with the fires lit and a glass of wine in hand. It’s a place of total relaxation where you can go to unwind and that you don’t need, or may not want, to leave. If you fancy heading out and about, there are many lovely walks, pubs, tea rooms, antique shops and places to discover. It’s a house for all seasons. If you feel inspired, there is a grand piano in the living room and a guitar that guests are welcome to use. Outside is a great BBQ perfect for al fresco dining under the grape vines. The house looks out onto fields and there are often a couple of friendly horses to be found. Whilst in a very rural setting, if you want to enjoy some shopping, you can get to a town centre within 15 mins by car. Central London is only 90 mins away by road. So near, yet so far. Weavers feels as though you’ve walked into a little touch of yesteryear. We hope you love it as much as we do.
Very close to Newmarket, famous for Newmarket horse races and Tattersalls for the horse sales (12 mins). Bury St. Edmunds is only 15 minutes away and Cambridge 25 minutes. For guests visiting friends or relatives at Lakenheath, Mildenhall and Feltwell, the house is about a 25 minute drive. There are so many pretty villages to explore within easy driving distance, with tea rooms, antiques, restaurants and shops. The cottage is also well placed for Thetford forest and the Elveden Estate.
  • A wonderfully spacious cottage, which at the same time retained a warm and cosy feel. Plenty of space for the family to either come together, or spread out. Our musical child thoroughly enjoyed the piano, bass and guitar, while the media options kept everyone else entertained. Excellent communication from the hosts and housekeeper.

  • Amazing house and lovely area

    Nicholas2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic 2night stay , visited Bury St Edmunds & Lavenham during the day , and chilled at the cottage during the evenings. The cottage had a welcome basket, bread , cereal, chocolates, mince pies, and a couple of beers, milk , butter, and water in the fridge. Bedrooms all lovely with comfortable beds. Plenty of hot water, and lounge areas nice and cosy. Lounge was much larger than it looks in the photos, with wood burner, games surround sound tv and Netflix. Top Tip: Pay attention when being shown around and remember which light switches are for which lights as some are not positioned where you think they would be😂😂 Thoroughly recommend.

    Wayne2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • A great place for a family get together! Cosy yet spacious accomodation with 3 double bedrooms (ideal for us & our 2 married daughters). Easy parking with one space on the drive and room for 1 or 2 cars on the road right outside the cottage. Everything you would want from a traditional, thatched country cottage, but with a well equiped kitchen and utility room (large fridge/freezer, double oven range cooker, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer). Plenty of hot water (great for a lovely shower, or bath), central heating & a log burner, so you'll never be cold! We were all sad to leave so soon after only two nights. Next time we must stay longer!

  • This is a fantastic property in an excellent location to explore the local area. The house is so beautiful inside and out, it really felt like a special occasion place and a real priviledge to stay there. It is also very well equipped with everything you'll need for comfortable and luxurious break. Kate and edward's communication was also first rate and the housekeeper Wendy, who met us at the property was also lovely and gave us a thorough tour and also provided helpful tips on the area. A 5 star experience start to finish. Highly recommended.

Farmhouse in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, England - Rural, Peaceful Location With No Near Neighbours A 16th century timber framed farmhouse set in 16 acres of private grounds. The house is approached down a quarter mile track flanked by oak trees. Formerly owned by The National Trusts' Ickworth Park Estate there are 360-degree views of rolling open countryside and woodland. There are extensive lawns and the grounds are host to a variety of wildlife including green woodpeckers and fallow deer.
  • If you're looking for a magical countryside retreat, this is it. Down a long track off a small road, you arrive at Antony's pink farmhouse, surrounded by wide lawns and beautiful trees. We saw deer, hares and rabbits galore in the garden - such a treat! The house itself is spacious, comfortable and delightfully wonky; the slope in the master bedroom is quite something, but adds to the charm of this old building. We went on wonderful walks straight from the house, where there are endless forest tracks to choose from. The deep silence and sense of being 'away from it all' was a real joy. Antony responded immediately to our enquiries and sent us all sorts of useful information. Thanks so much - we'll be back!

  • Jonathan is a conscientious and responsive host. We felt very relaxed in the accommodation - it has plenty of large common spaces, though the bedrooms are comparatively small. It was a really useful base for us to explore the area and get the whole family together.
