Come and make "Casale di Valle Numa" country house, nestled between Rome and Rieti, your home base during your stay in Italy. It is a nice rural farmhouse, situated at 600 meters, carefully restored in the respect of the local tradition.
Sabina is less known compared to other Italian regions but deserves to be visited because it contains real touristic and naturalistic treasures. Casale di Valle Numa is the ideal place for people who want to spend the holidays away from the stress of city life and in quite places. It is a house that offers warmth and comforts of a private home well maintained and immersed in nature.
Sabina is a very interesting region that offers to the tourist different itineraries both naturalistic (in the Regional Park of Lucretili Mountains) and touristic (there's a lot of archeology, Franciscan and Benedictine monasteries, rural and romanic churches, medieval charming villages, hidden corners and many other surprises).
  • Very beautiful house at a perfect location. Lazio is really nice. Paola and Giuseppe are very friendly and give good advice about things to do in Lazio and near to the house. We really want to come back again.

  • Our stay at Paolas House (3 persons) was, to make it short - just perfect. The house is overwhelming, it's in a complete quiet and natural surrounding. Everything was very clean, the house and the decorations are so charming, you really see that Paola loves this house. You had everything you need in it. From there you can perfectly make trips to Rome (~45min by car). We loved everything and especially the dogs sweetened our vacation. If we had questions Paola helped very quick. Its the perfect place to relax if you need a break from your daily routine. Also perfect for families. Some day I want to come back. Grazie Paola.

  • Paolas house is a fantastic place to spend a few days or weeks in the Italian country side. It was situated in a beautiful part of the countryside with forests and hills all around and the house itself contained all the amenities required to make our stay comfortable. Not too far to drive into the nearest town which had access to supermarkets, banks, bars and a good pizza restaurant. It was a great base to explore the surrounding Mountains. Highly recommend it to those wanting to get away from it all.

  • This was a fantastic week, which we will always remember. The location is special; within nature, having full privacy and stress is automatic floating away. The house has everything we needed, our children liked the many games at the house and my wife and I enjoyed to sit on the veranda talking, reading and drinking a glass of wine. The area has a strong combination within 1 hour you can go to Rome, or stay in the Area to visit small towns. We also liked the lake in the area, we hired 2 times a boat and were in principle alone on the lake. Also we liked the people in the area, all are very kind and helpful, you can notice it's not a very touristic area, which we like. Last but not least the house owners (Paola and Giuseppe) are hard-working and warm people who love their house, and they where easy to contact if we had questions.

  • Patrizia came to pick me up at the train station some 15 minutes by car from her b&b (a small extra tip was reluctantly accepted by her after very very strong insistence by me) and took me back to the train station. She and her kind partner Emanuele were extremely helpful in all possible ways during my stay. the bedroom is as described, clean, basic and comfortable and the hosts live in the same house (on ground floor), plenty of shops and a good choice of nice restaurants at less than 7 minutes’ walk from the b&b (one at only two minutes’ walk). the Buddhist monastery Santacittarama is at 24 minutes’ walk (quiet pace). Would definitely return!

With its unique position on a cul de sac overlooking olive groves and hills the house is particularly suitable for those seeking peace and quiet.Osteria Nuova is a relatively recent development and a wide range of shops and supermarkets are within easy reach either by car or on foot. There are a number of good local restaurants, reasonably priced. Walking in the area includes the Parco Regionale dei Monti Lucretili and Monte Terminillo and other peaks around the local provincial capital, Rieti.
We offer 2 rooms, each with private bathroom. One double basement bedroom and one first floor room with two futon-style beds. The first floor room is completely private and has an adjoining space for meditation and yoga etc. with a thick comfortable carpet. This space also has an extra bed available when necessary. There is a large kitchen which guests are invited to use to prepare tea/coffee.Longer term guests may like to use the kitchen to prepare food etc. Free wi-fi. Santacittarama Buddhist Monastery(Theravada Buddhism) is reachable within 10 to 15 minutes on foot or a few minutes drive by car. There is a very big food and animal country fair on the first Sunday of each month. Private parking. End of the road position in small housing development, with beautiful views over Sabina countryside and hills. Near medieval villages of Frasso Sabino, Poggio Nativo and Toffia. 20 minutes from Farfa Abbey by car. 25 minutes from the historical provincial capital, Rieti by car/bus. 1 hour from Rome (public bus service to Rome 3 times/ hour). 20 minutes by car to Fara Sabina-Montelibretti train station (direct trains to Fiumicino airport every 15 minutes).
As mentioned above, Sabina is particular in the beauty of its countryside, mountains and villages. There is a ruggedness to the landscape with thick forests covering the hills and mountains and large stretches of olive grove interspersed with woods and small villages, usually perched on hills or promentories. Despite its proximity to the capital it retains a real sense of traditional Italian country life which can be seen even in the flocks of sheep with their shepherds- the source of the local 'pecorino' cheese. The local restaurants have a range of good traditional, as well as local dishes.
  • if you're looking for a beautiful place to just chill out and relax. This is your place. Away from the hustle and bustle of the big cities out in the country. Hospitality Plus. Enjoy yourself. I did. All the best.

  • Beautiful home outside Rome. Quaint village surrounded by mountains. Geraint is wonderful human being - kind, thoughtful and knowledgable. I came to Osteria Nuova to spend some time at the nearby monestary - Santachittarama - which was beautiful. Spending time at monestary is a treat. Just a 20 minute walk from Geraint's house. Highly recommend this escape from the hustle & bustle of Rome.

    Misty2019-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The owner will welcome you warmly in his multi-level house with comfortable and well-kept spaces.

    Andrea2019-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • My sister and I stayed here during a visit to the Santacittarama monastery which is a few minutes by car or twenty walking. The house is at the end of a small road and overlooks the surrounding olive groves and hills, so even though it is close to the roads, it is in a quiet position. A few steps from the road there are plenty of parking lots. Mr. Geraint was considerate but discreet, punctual and precise about booking, chek-in and various communications. We stayed in the room with futon (comfortable) located on the top floor of the house ensuring all the privacy and independence required. We had a private bathroom, an outdoor terrace and a cozy indoor area where you can relax, meditate or practice Yoga without disturbing each other. Simple furniture but with all the necessary and impeccable cleanliness. We then had breakfast with Mr. Geraint who prepared us a bit 'of everything to make us feel at ease in its bright and welcoming kitchen. Accommodation recommended to those who need to move freely (we had our keys) both to visit the surroundings, for lovers of nature walks and especially for visitors to Santacittarama, whose atmosphere of peace can also be felt at the house of Mr. Geraint. We will definitely be back!

    Nena2018-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to visit the Sabina. The place is inserted in a very quiet street. Geraint is friendly, kind, discreet and an interesting person. Excellent value for money.

  • I had a great time, the house is very welcoming and very close to the monastery of Santacittarama, which can also be reached on foot. I think it can also be an excellent base for a few days of relaxation in the beautiful surrounding countryside. Geraint is an excellent host, very helpful and kind, I really felt like a friend's house. I hope to come back soon :-)

  • We had a wonderfull stay! thank you so much

  • Our group of 8 had a fantastic stay at Giacomo’s place. The old historic house is charming and comfortable for a big group, and we took advantage of the fully equipped kitchen to make meals throughout the week. We loved the pool and spent most of our time there. There are a couple of small old towns nearby if you want to go exploring. All in all, we had a wonderful week and would love to return one day. Thank you Giacomo, you were a great host!

    Leah2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • We were two families spending a week in this fantastic location. The place was as it’s shown in the pictures, but anyway it exceeded our expectations. It was so beautiful and the big garden with all its great spots we’re really the best. Depending on the weather and temperature we could decide where to enjoy the dinner in the evening. The pizza oven is super and we used it twice - so nice feeling like «authentic» Italians. 😉 Giacomo as a host was the best. Quick response, service minded and helpful. We would love to bring more of our friends and family to this wonderful place! We can really recommend it!

  • If you want the ultimate Italian experience (think "The English patient" or "Call me by your name") this is the place. We have been to many amazing places with Airbnb but this one takes the prize. The view from the terass is fantastic and the garden is shady and beautiful with lots of flowers and fruit trees. The house was cool even in the fierce heat and the pool clean and large enough to swim in. The place is secluded so you need a car to make excursions and go shopping. There is a fantastic restaurant in the next village (5 km away).

    Elin2019-06-27T00:00:00Z
  • We were a group of 8 people and we had the best time at Giacomos place. The house and the pool was amazing and the location of the house was just perfect outside of the regular tourist zones. Giacomo was a wonderful host and i would gladly recomend him and his house to future guests!

  • Castellano is a very, very special place. The house is exceptional, a beautiful place of wonder, like the surrounding countryside, steeped in history from Roman times to the twentieth century. There is a profound sense of peace in the garden and in the house, an unsurpassed tranquility. The house functions very well, the kitchen is a dream to cook in, the garden provides herbs. Giacomo is an excellent host, providing all the information we needed, a swift check-in and some complementary food and wine. It was a privilege to have stayed there.

    Linzi2018-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Giacomo's place in Monteleone Sabino is perfect to experience the real italian countryside charm. This time we were focusing on Rome during our stay but we will definitely come back sometime to visit the many turist attractions in the zone. The morning coffees on the big terrace were something to remember! The view and the garden are amazing! We can only recommend this house to every person wanting to stay in this area.

    Robert2018-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • The house is a perfect place to stay, even in very hot weather, because then the house is cool and the garden full of shadow. The house and garden are especially nice for families with little children because it is safe and gives plenty of room to play.

An evocative residence created from the remnants of a beautifully restored Roman/Medieval tower, with ceilings in centuries-old oak planks, thick stone walls and handmade terracotta tile floors. The rustic antique furnishings complement a massive oak and travertine fireplace. La Torretta looks out over a shady stone terrace with jasmine-covered wrought ironwork that offers a magnificent view of the valley below. Info and contacts on: ILCASTELLANO . EU ;-)
The cosy living room/kitchen has a fireplace, thick stone walls, handmade terracotta tiled floors and rustic, country furnishings. A wooden stairway leads to the floor above where two bedrooms lie under a slanted beamed roof, one of which has a magnificent view of the valley below. La Torretta faces onto a stone-slab terrace shaded by an old hazelnut tree with jasmine-covered wrought ironwork. La Torretta is adjacent to Il Castellano, since they were once joined as parts of a monastery with a tower overlooking the valley. Each of the two buildings, has an ample dedicated exterior area; they share the pool (10x5m) an approximately one-hectare garden, a panoramic terrace, a fruit orchard, vineyard and vegetable garden, a pizza oven with barbeque and a small soccer field. The west side of the garden overlooks the valley, offering a sweeping view of vineyards, olive groves and walnut and oak woods, all the way to where distant mountains are set aflame at sundown. A variety of birds and small wild fauna (foxes, squirrels and moles) abound here, where farming has always been an ecological enterprise. The house is an ideal starting point for a visit to Rome and other towns in the regions of Lazio and Umbria, such as Tivoli (the Villa d’Este and Hadrian’s Villa), Orvieto and Spoleto. Lake Turano, wedged between the unspoiled mountains and forests of the Monte Navegna Natural Park, is only 15 km away and offers swimming, canoeing and sailing.

  • What a magnificent stay in a country home. We were celebrating a year of marriage and we couldn’t have chosen a more beautiful, serene, and hospitable setting for our milestone. We ate delicious meals on a mountainside view, sunbathed by the pool, and marveled over the ancient stone country house. Our hosts were kind, generous and helpful. We were treated like family! This home is truly secluded and you should have a car or be prepared to walk 1.5 km into town. What a gem! We loved our time here and are looking forward to returning! Very grateful!

  • Beautiful house and wonderful pool in the Roman country side. Marvellous landscape and authentic experience. Take time to visit the village, the people are great and very welcoming. The Farfa abbey is also really worth the trip. Thanks Giacomo.

  • Giacomo's place is pretty perfect - the house is lovely, with the amazing history behind it. The owners are the nicest and helped us with everything that we needed during our stay. If you are looking for a beautiful place to relax in slow-life way you just found yourself the best option possible. The village is sleepy but suprisingly full of things to visit and stories to be heard from locals. In the house and in the garden will find everything you need for a short or long-term stay, even the lavender oil who will scare ants away and make you sleep like a baby :) We absolutely loved the fireplace, it was very relaxing and warm too! Rome is abour 1 hour away by car so we visited it twice during our stay but it was a pure pleasure to come back from the busy city to our tower on the hill. We will come back during the summer, just to slow down a bit and try the swimming pool this time :)

    Zuzanna2019-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • You won’t want to leave this place. It has so many magical discoveries around every corner. There is an ancient Roman Amphitheater literally down the hill as well as a medieval church on a pilgrimage path that is decorated with “found objects” from the Roman period. The view is better than I could have imagined...spectacular, wonderful and vast! Giacomo and his family are so sweet and have lots of suggestions for places to visit and eat. The town, Monteleone Sabino is small and friendly. You might occasionally find someone who speaks some English there, but the villagers are friendly and willing to help out with sign language or your limited Italian. Very, very special experience!

This comfortable modern villa situated at just 56 km from Rome is set among the olive groves next to the medieval village of Monteleone Sabino and the romanic ruins of the old city of Trebula Mutuesca in the beautiful and unspoilt Sabina region of Lazio. The villa has four double bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large (48 sqm) bright open planned living area and a well equipped kitchen with different spaces to organize either inside or outside alfresco dinings. It has a wide private garden with access to more than 2 acres of olive grove where the swimming pool (12 x 6 metres) is located and where you will find quiet spaces to read, relax, in sun or shade. All around the villa you can enjoy stunning views of the surrounding countryside & hills and breathtaking sunsets in the evenings. The villa provides a perfect rural retreat with ample opportunities for enjoying the countryside, hill top villages and local restaurants. It is also within easy reach of Rome and many other towns of Lazio and Umbria such as Tivoli, Orvieto & Spoleto.
Info and contacts on: ILCASTELLANO . EU ;-) The Lazio region Latium, the cradle of Rome, consisted originally of the coastal plain from the mouth of the Tiber to the Circeian promontory, and its adjacent foothills. Its area constituted a part of the much larger modern Italian Regione of Lazio, Latium in Latin. Latium has played an important role in history owing to its status as the cradle of the Roman Empire and the city of Rome. Consequently, it is home to celebrated works of art and architecture. Bordered by the Tyrrhenian Sea, Latium's capital Rome and the sovereign Vatican State, account for the region's, and indeed country's, largest number of visitors—lured by the staggering number of attractions within each. But outside of Rome's famous Colosseum and the Vatican's Sistine Chapel, Latium provides many attractions worth the wander from these busy centres.
  • Amazing views from a peaceful and charming villa.

  • Villa extremely pleasant, well laid out and peaceful, superb panoramic view, near a very small authentic village. The perfect place for a relaxing holiday.

  • The best Airbnb hosts we've ever had, and our favorite house of any we have ever stayed in (and there have been dozens). Giacomo and his wife were exceptionally friendly, gracious, and generous--they provided lots of welcoming food and drink, and, most valuably, generous amounts of time and effort to help us resolve a little beginning-of-the-trip car emergency. On top of that, the Sabina area is one of the most beautiful and captivating we have ever visited in Italy. For various reasons we usually do not provide detailed reviews of our stays; this one is written enthusiastically.

    Chris2019-06-26T00:00:00Z
  • We were very comfortable in Giacomo's villa. Upon arrival they greeted us with a cake and some drinks. The house was perfectly tidy and clean, as was the swimming pool which was cleaned every morning by the maintenance man. The house is located in a very quiet area and overlooks a beautiful landscape. We highly recommend it.

  • The house in Monteleone Sabino was perfect for our family! It was away from tourist areas, quiet, comfortable and the views were amazing! The pool was a great place to cool off and it cooled enough in the evenings that sleeping and keeping the house comfortable wasn't a problem. The kitchen had everything we needed (and more) and the rooms / bathrooms were comfortable and clean. Would love to come back again someday and recommend it to all!

  • Paola is a friendly host and responded quickly to our questions. Cerdomare is a tiny very quiet village close to Via Salaria and therefore good for excursions to Rieti and the Sabina Area. The Apartment is big and very lovely decorated.

  • Dear Paola, It was a wonderful stay in your apartment. I really enjoyed my time there and felt very comfortable. Thank you and hopefully until next year!

  • A little gem! A quiet apartment with impeccable cleanliness and a thousand small attentions, like a fridge full of what is necessary for a good breakfast. Very comfortable beds. The apartment is equipped with everything. The balcony offers a fantastic view of the woods. As I said a little gem ... one of the most beautiful places we have been to now with airbnb. Easy check in and check out. Thanks Paola

  • Paola is such a generous, kind, warm, considerate person. My friend and I had a wonderful stay. We felt at home. Everything we needed was there. You will need a car if you stay there but we enjoyed driving around the country side and to the main town Rieti which was only 30 min away. If you go there, go to the chocolate shop and eat the gelato! Yum! Paola’s place was cozy and I slept so good. It is very peaceful. The price is fantastic especially for longer stays. Her homemade olive oil is sooooo good! Highly recommend this place.

  • Paola has a very clean and nice place with a lot of love for detail. The kitchen had everything (and more) than we needed and the questions I had were quickly answered by her. We just stayed there briefly on our transfer but had a good time. Thanks Paola!

Enjoy your stay in this quiet and comfortable home just 1 hour from Rome, in the characteristic area of Sabina. This is the land of olive trees and olive oil, of the medieval castles and of unspoilt nature. If you will arrive with your own car, you can visit independently all the interesting places in the area. If you will use the train that leaves from Fiumicino Airport, you will arrive at the nearest station just 15 minutes from the house. The pick up is fast and free for our guests!
Stay in our beautiful country house, only 50 km from the center of Rome. We live on the top of an hill with a westward view across the gorgeous Sabine countryside, while to the east we have a clear view of Terminillo mountain (popular for skiing in the winter and trekking in the summer), and the imposing Apennine range. We can accommodate up to four people in two different rooms with a bathroom. Possibility of breakfast, to be agreed with the Host. You can easily reach the city either by bus, train or car in just 1 hour. Visit a region of Italy that is "off the beaten track" and make your Italian stay, something more then just a simple holiday.
This rural area is still very traditional and has maintained its pastoral beauty intact. The most popular sites to visit are: the VI century Abbey of Farfa, the XI century Orsini castle, and a number of beautiful lakes. The region is also dotted with archeological sites of ancient Roman settlements, and many small, unchanged, middle-age villages which have maintained their vintage flavor.
  • Odila's place was fantastic, a beautiful location with magical views. The house was spotless and stylish with everything you needed. Odi was an amazing host and cook! Thank you so much.

    Zuzu2019-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • WoW, what a view!! Impossible to capture it's beauty in words or pictures. Odila's place is a cozy house full of stories of adventure and cultural elements, located at the end of a road, on top of hill, overlooking a beautiful valley... If you are looking for peace and quietness, nature and this all nearby Rome, you are in the right place. Odila is also a great cook and she and the rest of the family are really zen people and great company. For sure I'll come back to this hidden treasure!

    Maïté2019-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Odila's place is a REAL GEM! If you are looking for a peaceful weekend or vacation, look no further! This place can hardly be beat by anything around. Unobstructed views of the whole valley, lavender and other aromatic herbs' perfume lingering around, chorus of cicadas... your senses will get cuddled and your mind will shut away all the worldly worries and just RELAX. Add to it that the garden provides a variety of comfortable seats and a swing, needless to say that in no time your body will follow your mind on the journey of total bliss. Odila and Marco are an amazing couple, warm and inclusive. They filled our weekend with kindness and generosity, shared their stories with us and spent time with us in deep conversations. We can highly recommend their place! The room is actually a suite, huge bathroom, comfortable bedroom and a study with a desk, very useful if you need to take care of some of your emails while there. Independent entrance made our coming and going so much easier. The place is immaculate, the bed very comfortable, all amenities are present.

    Yana2018-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Dear coming guests, it is exactly as described. A wonderful house with amazing view over the hills close to the valley of Rome. The hosts are two persons that love what they have created and to share it with someone that can appreciate it.

  • We returned for the second time in the house of Odila hill and the experience was great once again: a beautiful house in the nature of Sabina, a warm and familiar, while at the same time professional. This time we were a party of 4 so we stayed in two rooms, both comfortable and clean, and we could talk quietly some program changes. The breakfasts are always very good, with fresh ingredients and delicious. I think back in Sabina in the house on the hill!

    Francesca E Luigi2016-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Odila's place was one of the best experiences that I've ever had. She and her family were so nice, they told me about all the interesting places that I could visit while I stayed there, and I have no words to describe how beatiful is the landscape. Every morning I had the view of the countryside outside my window, that was priceless.

    Francisco2016-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • Odila and his two sons were very welcoming, making me feel like a special guest in a beautiful house, overlooking a panorama that embraces all of Sabina, a little-known but fascinating region. The house is really surrounded by greenery, in a land rich in olive trees and flowers, where you can eat outside if the weather is fine. Breakfasts are rich and include homemade cakes and jams, some made directly from Odila. At home you can choose whether to stay at home or go directly to the room with their own keys, having a bathroom with a separate shower. Finally, the house is also available for dogs, as there is already another delicious and reserved dog. totally recommended stay.

  • On arrival we (a group of girlfriends) received a warm welcome from mother and daughter, the hosts of the house. They were very enthusiastic about our arrival and gave many local tips about restaurants and more. We also received a free bottle of home-produced olive oil from the olive grove that surrounds the entire house. The views from the house are breathtaking. You look out over the surroundings and the sunset is beautiful. We were able to swim, play table tennis, barbecue and relax on our patio. We definitely recommend this place if you want a nice and peaceful holiday and would like to visit Rome and the surrounding area!

  • We spent a week in this house and we have been great. A nice and nice house with a fantastic pool. An ideal house to rest and relax. It is 10/15 minutes walking from the village and in an unbeatable environment. La Sabina, a very unknown and interesting area to enjoy with family. Enriqueta has been a great host.

  • The house is located on an olive farm with stunning countryside location in the middle of a mountain side, the place has stunning views, which can also be enjoyed from the large pool. Access to the house is possible in ordinary car, via approximately 2 km of dirt roads in rural surroundings with magnificent views. The whole area has many charming mountain villages with real Italian authenticity and good dining options. Hostess is a pleasure to visit and very helpful IT'S REAL ITALY :-)

  • We had a really great time! The house, pool and surroundings are stunning, and we felt very welcome. The landlady is a wonderful host. We are planning to return next year 😊

    Ellen2018-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • Saba and her mother made us feel extremely welcome. The property was reassuringly exactly as described and the pool and grounds were even better! The location was really quiet and a fair distance from the local village so a car is a must to get around. We visited several local towns and particularly liked Rieti (about 40 minutes away). We visited Rome and took the train the first time, but found that driving in was better and parking in the centre of Rome was relatively cheap and easy to find.

    Alison2016-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time ! Enrica gave us a great feeling of welcome when we met her. She explained the house to us and even gave us a grand tour of her olive oil farm. We felt very welcome. The apartment was very nice and cool. Everything was very clean and every floor had it's own bathroom and toilet. The pool was cleaned every night and the place has a tremendous view really special. We can recommend this place to everybody!

MACO'S HOUSE: A lovely cottage built over Roman ruins in the Sabine countryside with spectacular views over the valleys stretching westward towards the setting sun and Rome. The house is surrounded by olive groves, and its charming garden. An ideal spot for a relaxing holiday immersed in nature and a perfect base for excursions into the regions of Lazio, Umbria and Rome. Info and contacts on: ILCASTELLANO . EU ;-)
The ideal spot for a holiday immersed in the beauty of nature and history. This cosy, rustic cottage is built over Roman ruins, in fact in the garden there are two Roman columns, most likely the remains of a gateway to the ancient Roman city of Trebula Mutuesca, known today as Monteleone Sabino. It is surrounded by a garden that borders on unspoiled meadows and woods stretching westward toward the Soratte mountain ridge above Rome. Beneath playfully pitched rooves supported by chestnut beams are two bedrooms, a comfortable living room with fireplace, two bathrooms and a spacious, well-appointed kitchen that looks out onto the garden. All floors are in terracotta, bathrooms lined in hand-painted tiles, and furnishings are simple and tasteful. Enjoy tranquillity and silence, taking off when you choose to visit the sites of Rome, Tivoli or Ostia Antica; make an excursion to Mount Terminillo (2100 metres) or Lake Turano (15 km), or even venture as far as Perugia or Naples and back the same day. Everything is close by, but perhaps you’d prefer to simply stay put and enjoy nature, read a book, take some sun or go out and pick a basket full of cherries, figs and apricots to make marmalade. I’ll be there to welcome you personally, ready and willing to suggest itineraries and places to eat well and have fun, and to make sure yours is a truly unforgettable vacation.

In the village of Monteleone there is a tiny yet surprisingly detailed archeological museum with craft objects from the ancient Roman city of Trebula Mutuesca. Near Rieti (30 Km on the Via Salaria, an interesting medieval town) there are many beautiful medioeval Franciscan sanctuaries (Greccio, Fonte Colombo, Poggio Bustone) and the wonderful area of the lake of Piediluco, the Marmore Falls and Terminillo mountain (2500 m). 15 Km away (towards Rome) is Farfa Abbey, one of the most famous monastery in Europe. Little known on the tourist trail, the abbey hosts a magnificent Romanesque Cathedral and a stunning library of rare texts from medieval times. In recent times, British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver visited the abbey hoping to find inspiration in the long-famed medieval herb garden of the Benedictine monks... On the way to Farfa is the lovely medieval village of Frasso with its beautiful castle. The beautiful Villa Adriana and villa d'Este are 50km away. The property is nestled by superb countryside offering relaxing trails for walking and sightseeing. The Lake Turano, with its wild landscape and medieval villages, is only 15 km away. Castel di Tora is a medieval town with narrow alleys climbing up towards the castle and, just in front, is Colle di Tora, spread out on a promontory forming a small bay. Nearby is the convent of St Anatolia and the impressive ruins of the Castello di Antuni at the top of a rocky peninsula. You can also visit Ascrea on the lake with its Chiesa di S. Nicola, made of stone, clinging to the slopes of the mountain culminating at Navegna and Cervia. Nearby is the impressive castle of Rocca Sinibalda and the Abbazia of San Salvatore. And of course Rome (56 Km away), which can be easily reached either by motorway or by train from Fara in Sabina (efficient, cheap train service running every half hour except Sundays; 45-60 minutes to the Colosseum and historical center). Gastronomy and typical dishes Monteleone Sabino: hand made fettuccine, ravioli, extravergine olive oil, ciambelle; Ascrea: porcini mushrooms, truffles and chestnuts; Castel di Tora: beans and polenta; Colle di Tora: fagioli a pisello (beans without skin), lake fish, cheeses. Activities near Monteleone: Walking holidays, Rural/countryside retreat, City breaks, Cycling holidays, Cultural and Archeological tourism The Lazio region Latium, the cradle of Rome, consisted originally of the coastal plain from the mouth of the Tiber to the Circeian promontory, and its adjacent foothills.
  • Giacomo's house is a fantastic place for a quiet getaway to the Italian hills. It has great amenities and fantastic views across olive groves. It is also a short drive from some fantastic areas of Italy and not too far from Rome. The house itself is very conformable and easy to access. Would definitely stay again.
