Enjoy this charming 2 bedroom cabin on Cable Lake in Spooner, Wisconsin. In the early 1930’s, an old boxcar was skidded across the frozen Cable Lake and became a cozy little cabin. Today, tucked beneath a stand of mature Norway pines, it is a great place to enjoy the solitude and beauty of northern Wisconsin. The large front deck sits right on the waters edge and is a perfect place to relax, watch the loons, bald eagles & sunsets or plan your fishing strategy. Perfect for up to 4 people.
“This was our third trip to Jeff and Sue's Boxcar cabin and it was every bit as wonderful as the first time! (Except we really miss Parker, who was just the best dog in the world!) I love how spacious the deck is- we always spend so much time out there just watching the lake and listening to the wind rushing through the big pine trees. It's so dark out there at night and you can see so many stars! The kitchen is well-stocked and has a good amount of pots and pans, trays, cutting boards. Everything was SUPER clean, I felt very safe and comfortable, which is important in these Covid times. The drive to town is easy and short- Spooner has a good local grocery store, and we went to The Dock coffeeshop several times and that iced latte hit the spot! We also rented some movies at the Redbox by Dollar Tree. We spent a day exploring some nearby waterfalls at Pattison State Park and Amnicon Falls State Park. (Although if you go, they aren't doing daily park pass sales, only yearly. It's a little pricey but was worth it for us. And they don't sell on-site, you have to buy online!)”
The Woodland Suite is located on our 10 acre property close to Spooner (5 mi), Minong (15 mi), Hayward (25 mi). We are surrounded by tamarack marsh, pine and oak woods, and Spooner Lake. Drive 1/2 mile down a private road to our nature sanctuary featuring beautiful vistas, peace & quiet, a nice bathroom, in-floor heat and AC. It is a retreat for couples, solo adventurers, families with kids, and dogs .
“This place and Matt were both lovely. We came here for our 6 month anniversary and brought our dog Marty. Not only was the place very clean and furnished nicely, there was a lot of thoughtfulness in the amenities (such as lots of ice cubes in the freezer, a grill and seating outside). Matt also gave us a local tip to visit Round Man Brewing Co, which had great food, beer, and the staff was nice. He was immensely caring toward our normally friendly rescue dog, who was anxious towards him. We also enjoyed golfing nearby, but didn't get to go down to the lake. Just another reason for us to come back! I would recommend renting to anyone looking for a relaxing weekend get away or some cross country skiing in the area.”
Welcome to Hunt Hill Audubon Sanctuary! We are a public, non-profit learning center and nature sanctuary. Our historic Log Cabin is nearly a century old and offers a peaceful retreat in the woods. All the furniture was updated in 2018. The Log Cabin is located just outside of the main camp, settled on top of a hill overlooking pristine forest habitat. Nearby towns offer additional entertainment or relax in our quiet setting while reading a good book in front of the stone fireplace.
“We had a really great and serene weekend, thank you!! It went by so fast. It's just what we needed, being out in the woods. We loved the characteristics of this cabin, and the woodsy smells. Having trails right there, and access to the canoes and kayaks were such a great plus to our weekend. It was nice to just be able to (for the most part) put the cellular devices away and appreciate the surroundings and moments. We enjoyed the fireplace as well and playing board games :)”
