Palms shield the ground floor from view while 2nd-story decks look out over the Atlantic at this ocean-view-but-private contemporary villa on Hilton Head Island. In the great room, floor-to-ceiling windows showcase the views; in the bedrooms, clerestory windows provide sunshine and seclusion. Cross the dunes to the beach or walk 14 minutes to the nearest golf course.
Splash sunny days away in a saltwater pool surrounded by a horseshoe-shaped hot tub and a travertine deck, and read or nap all afternoon on a second travertine deck off the upper level. As the sun passes to the western side of the island, heat up the barbecue for an alfresco dinner or pull bottles from the wine fridge to serve with hors d’oeuvres at the indoor wet bar.
Not only did this villa’s kitchen win the 2015 Lighthouse Design Award, it also played host to a U.S. president. You’ll see why it was award- and White House-worthy at the front entrance.
