Holiday rentals with a kayak in Mathews County

Stayed with a toddler and a crawler in June. Leaving this review specifically for parents looking for the information I was looking for when we booked. The area is very nice/private, the water is shallow and perfect for littles! Water shoes are recommended as stated. The beach area is right outside the backyard, keep in mind this is a river and not the ocean so there are many bugs! For light sleepers there's also frogs in June. Our kids absolutely loved the water, there's sand to play in too, might have to clear an area from sea grass. Very little waves. The area/house is about 15 mins from anything so keep that in mind. We were thinking there would be more local restaurants and less chains but not really the case, at least not within 30 mins. We did a little more cooking than we hoped for, which the stove is touchy: front Lt burner is immediately hot, rt burner is barely working. Booster seat there in case you forget. Great home though, nice neighbors!

My children and grandchildren spent 7 days at this property and had an amazing time. The property is gorgeous and is just as the pictures and description states it is. The property is very private and peaceful surrounded by water and nature. My family enjoyed crabbing, fishing, and kayaking. Great communication with Tamara before, during, and after our visit. I highly recommend visiting!!

The host did a fabulous job explaining everything. The location was easy to find with GPS. The place has up dated furniture and appliances. One bedroom and full bathroom downstairs and 2 bedrooms and full bathroom upstairs. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything to cook with. The ocean is directly in front of the back porch. Its about 5 minutes away from a restaurant called "The Hole in the Wall". I had blackened tuna and it was delicious. 10 minutes away from a 7 eleven. 20 minutes away from Food Lion and a few other restaurants. The only thing that was a concern was our phone service went completely out at the location. We have AT&T service. The wifi was very useful. The neighbors were nice, but doesn't like the smell of medical marijuana. It's legal in VA to have marijuana with a medical card. You can't smoke outside the house. You will have to walk away from the house to smoke.

This place was amazing, exceeded all expectations! The photos do not do it justice, it is so beautiful and so clean, they literally thought of everything to make your vacation great! We arrived to a thoughtful gift basket that took all guest into consideration including the dog, very sweet! The first night we arrived we had a thunderstorm come in and Bill made sure to check in to make sure we knew there were flashlights available and where to find them, if the power went out, which was really thoughtful and appreciated. The yard, the dock, the water, the house everything was perfect and the food in the area was awesome! We will definitely come back. This place is a diamond for sure!

We had such a wonderful stay at this beautiful waterfront home! The house itself is spacious, thoughtfully designed, and perfect for a group getaway. The views are absolutely stunning—during our stay we saw dolphins right from the deck and even caught a rainbow over the water, which made the whole weekend feel magical. The kayaks were such a fun bonus and a great way to explore the peaceful surroundings. Inside, the home is clean, comfortable, and well-equipped with everything we needed. Brian was incredibly responsive and helpful from start to finish, which made the whole experience even better. I’d absolutely come back—this place is a gem!

Perfect location and place! We enjoyed our stay and had everything we needed. Our 8 year old loved the swing, his room, and exploring. We rode bikes, fished at the dock a couple houses down, he kayaked, and swam around the dock. Haven was a short drive away, as was town. We enjoy visiting Mathews, and this house made the trip even better. We hope to come back!

Our stay was absolutely wonderful! The hosts were incredibly friendly, inviting, and generous, making us feel right at home. This was our 1st visit to The Crab Shack. All I can say is Wow, just Wow! This was the cleanest, nicest and cutest Airbnb that we have ever stayed at over the years! It was amazing! My husband and I traveled from Sarver, PA with our 2 Golden Retrievers to celebrate our 10 year Wedding Anniversary! We all had the best time ever! We spent most of the time here at the Shack just cooking on the grill and listening to music and the girls did a lot of swimming fetching for balls! Thank you Carlisle and Mary for making our 10 year Anniversary simply perfect! ❤️☀️😎🥂🍾🦀 We can’t wait to come back! ☺️

My husband and I had an absolutely wonderful time and the home played a big part in this. I was so impressed with all the extras that I just never see in other homes. The house is so cozy and such a beautiful location. Just perfect for relaxation. We will definitely want to come back. Thank you Cornelia for opening up your home to us.

We had a wonderful experience. the skylight filled the main room with natural light and the cookware was sufficient for us to prepare steak salad and salad with grilled chicken. we did not take advantage of the kayaks, but the golf cart gave us a day to relax and stay local. We caught a marvelous sunrise and sunset from the mini pier and watched a summer thunderstorm go across the river. In all, it was a wonderful stay and we would highly recommend the Little Dipper.

This Airbnb exceeded all expectations! From the moment we walked in, we were blown away by how beautiful and thoughtfully designed the space was - every detail with stylish, comfortable, and impeccably clean. What really stood out, though was how well stocked everything was. The kitchen had every tool and appliance we could possibly need, there were plenty of fresh towels, extra blankets, and even small touches like coffee, toiletries that made our stay so easy and enjoyable, and very dog friendly! It truly felt like a home away from home. Highly recommend this place, we can’t wait to come back. Thanks so much for sharing your home!

We had a wonderful stay! The location was peaceful and perfect for a relaxing getaway. The kids had a blast fishing and catching crabs right outside, which was a big highlight. We especially enjoyed spending time in the bright and airy sunroom. The home was very clean and well-maintained, and we loved how close it was to both downtown and a beautiful beach. We’d definitely recommend staying here!

We had a great day wonderful views of the river. Love the screened in porch and the swing and the beds were super comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed in my family loved fishing off the dock.

So thankful for this location. We were in town for a wedding and the house is big enough for us to have our immediate family over for lunch. So peaceful and quiet. if we are ever in the area again I will come back!

The Old log Home was an extremely enjoyable experience. The home has unique old school charm and its surroundings are gorgeous. The views are spectacular. The host was very accommodating & responsive. We can’t wait to go back!!!
