“Another wonderful stay at the hobbit hole! The interior was as gorgeous as we remembered from our last visit, everything was pristinely clean, and the garden has been expanded and looks great in full bloom. We grabbed the takeout german sampler from the Edelweiss Restaurant near Staunton on our way down, and enjoyed a delicious meal with beer as we watched a Thunderstorm roll in across the hills from the safety and comfort of the hobbit hole porch. After it cleared, we sat out and enjoyed the firepit and listened to the bullfrogs by the pond. The next day we enjoyed a leisurely day, hitting up Pure Eats in Lexington for burgers, and after visiting some of the many lovely wineries in the area, with terrific views of the rolling hills. After, in a doubtless vain attempt to make up for all the treats we'd been eating, we walked along the Mirkwood Trail that winds its way along Randy and Linda's farm. We enjoyed following all the twists and turns and surprises along the way. Even got to stop by Jeremiah's farm and check out all the chickens and guinea fowl! For dinner we ordered takeout from Macado's in Lexington (their bang bang shrimp tacos are great) and then in the evening we moved the Buckleberry Ferry halfway across, so it sat in the pond by the fountain, and just enjoyed watching the sun set to the sounds of the virginia countryside. On our final day, after a relaxing breakfast of donuts purchased from Pure Eats in Lexington the previous day (and coffee!) we checked out at 11, and then proceeded to one of the more incredible experiences for me - participating in the forge workshop at Randy's (incredible - I'm jealous!) facility. In less than two hours, with lots of patient and careful guidance from Randy, I was able to make a halfway respectable poker! Certain to be of use in defending against any marauding goblins. Randy was an excellent teacher and it was pretty amazing to be able to shape the heated metal; I highly recommend that part of their workshop package if you happen visit - which you absolutely should! We loved our trip and will definitely be back.”
Experience glamping, Blue Ridge style. Our luxury yurt is located at the top of a small hill, in the center of a 70 acre farmstead surrounded by natural beauty. The property is located off a quiet country road in Afton, Nelson County. It is private, but not remote. You are close to the Brew Ridge trail, wineries, breweries, skiing at Wintergreen, Blue Mountain Brewery, Devil's Backbone, golf, hiking, or driving the Blue Ridge Parkway. Hike or bike directly from the Yurt up into the mountains!
“We really enjoyed our second visit to the yurt! Chantal gives the best advice about places to visit. We loved Veritas Winery, The Brewing Tree, Blue Mountain Brewery and the strawberry ice cream across from the brewery. Our favorite experience was standing on the deck our last night and seeing all the fireflies lighting up all the way to the mountaintops. I’ll never forget it!”
Welcome to Old Hill Cider House! Located just steps away from the first row of Summer Rambo Apple Trees at Showalter's Orchard. The thoughtful renovation was just completed in early July. The former wash house could be a base for all your Shenandoah Valley Travels or this light airy and romantic little house is a comfortable and cozy place for your farm vacation. The kitchen is small but has all the basics, one queen bed, one bath. We look forward to making your acquaintance.
“Our stay at the Cider House was nothing short of fantastic. The place is beautifully decorated and if you're looking for a cozy, romantic getaway look no further. The property the house is on is even more stunning as you drive up onto the orchard with rolling hills of apples and peaches all around you. The cider tasting house is right on site as well, so grabbing a crisp cider is literally steps away. We went hiking (recommend Church Rock hike), went to wineries in the area and just spent days reading and playing board games with the beautiful view this stay has to offer. I could not recommend this stay more! 10/10”
