Places to stay in Ahmeek
The Ahmeek Art Apartment is an art-themed apartment in the historic Glass Brothers Building in the copper mining village of Ahmeek. Great winter location. We're located 10 minutes from Swedetown ski trails, 23 minutes from Mt. Bohemia, 24 minutes from Mont Ripley and 37 minutes from Copper Harbor You’ll love our place because of the high ceilings, eclectic decoration, and the location. Our place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, and families (with kids).
  • Great place to stay. Jim is very helpful host and even went out of his way to check us in very late at night. The pictures don’t do the place justice, it’s very cute with everything you need. 10/10 will stay again.

  • This is a great place to stay with great hospitality! It's a very unique space (better in person than in the pictures) and Jim has a wealth of knowledge about the area that he is happy to share. Overall this was the perfect place to stay to explore the winter wonders of the Keweenaw.

    Laura2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • This place is perfect! Less than 30 mins from Mt Bohemia, plenty of space for 4-6 people and all of your gear, and they even have a selection of board games to play when you get back after a full day. The apartment is very clean and quaint, and I couldn’t recommend it enough.

    Jackson2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Jim and Julie are extremely accommodating with their time, check in, snow removal, availability, and great communication. I definitely recommend staying at their space!

    Ashley2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Jim was an exceptional host. He was more than friendly, helped reccomend local attractions and restaurants, and yet wasn't overbearing at all. The apartment was spotless clean and much nicer than the pictures do justice. We had a wonderful time and will definitely book again.

  • This is a great place for a couple, although there are extra beds for kid in the same room as the queen bed I would rather not. This place is very quiet, slept great, very centrally located we had a good time we will be back.

    Karen2019-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Jim was very friendly. Our check-in process was simply a breeze. The place is sparkling clean.

You are looking for peace and quiet. We have it! My cozy home is nestled in 40 acres of woods: oak, fir, maple, cedar, birch. You are more likely to see a deer in the yard than a car passing by. The night skies are often dark enough to see the Milky Way and the occasional shooting star. Come to the the northern woods and let your cares fade away.
Homey, cozy, and quiet... my house is nestled in the woods. I like warm, soft lighting and a simple cottage decor.
This is the northwoods at its finest! Your neighbors are the trees, the animals, and the stars. An easy, picturesque drive can take you to: -Hancock/Houghton 25 minutes -Copper Harbor 45 minutes -Mt. Bohemia 30 minutes -Calumet 10 minutes -Gay 20 minutes -Porcupine Mountains 120 minutes -Lake Superior beach at the Gratiot River 15 minutes
  • Bottom line, I would highly recommend you stay here. Daniel was extremely personable, and very hospitable. He has fascinating taste in decor, and the place was very clean. The the room itself was good, and the bed was very comfy. If I venture this way again, I will most likely return (as long as there are the correct amount of people, of course). 6 stars!

    Seth2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay - we stayed for the weekend to ski at Bohemia and it was perfect! Daniel was super friendly, helpful and a great host. The space was clean and cozy with an awesome fireplace to top it all off. Definitely would recommend staying here!

    Mallory2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Daniel is a friendly host. He made our stay comfortable and provided us privacy. His place is very clean and we really enjoyed the smell of his house. We’d like to stay again at his place next time.

  • Great place to stay in the keeweenaw!

    Christopher2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Daniel was an amazing and gracious host. His home was cozy, loved the fires, and convenience to his home from the place I was working. Beautiful home and property. Felt like home and so Peaceful , just what I needed.

  • Daniel was an amazing host. Friendly, kind and helpful. He communicated well and we enjoyed our time with him. His house was super clean and perfect for our weekend ski trip to Bohemia. A perfect getaway.

    Karleena2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Daniel’s place is not only conveniently located close to Mt. Bohemia but also many other parks and nature reserves. It was the perfect spot for two people to stay on a short trip to the Keweenaw to enjoy the outdoors. Daniel keeps his home very clean and organized. His kitchen has all the essentials you may need if you plan to prepare your own meals. He is also willing and excited to provide tips and suggestions for local attractions. Daniel helped make our trip memorable and enjoyable! We arrived at his home to find a Keweenaw shaped chocolate bar in our room and woke up every morning to a pot of coffee ready to brew. If we are ever in the area again we will be sure to look Daniel’s home up for a welcoming place to stay!

    Jack2020-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • This is where you will find your respite and so much more. I felt like I walked through the Wardrobe into Narnia. I had so much fun exploring the wilderness in the snow. Daniel's home is the perfect place to come home to after being out in the cold. You'll find his cabin in the woods to be warm and cozy lit with candles and a glowing woodstove. I highly recommend his place!

Located on quiet dead-end street at the edge of the woods, with a view of Torch Lake. Comfortable, cheerful and private, it’s about a 15-min. drive across the Portage lift bridge to Michigan Tech. Pet-friendly with safe dog walking options. All are welcome!
Built in 1898 by the mining company, this salt box-style home originally had an outhouse where the birch is growing now. When a toilet was added, it was put in the basement because people couldn't imagine a toilet inside! Updated and remodeled in 2006,the plumbing and wiring were all replaced. It's got its original maple wood floors and sits on a Jacobsville sandstone foundation.
Tamarack City is between Houghton/Hancock and Calumet along M-26. Our neighborhood is an old mining location above the ruins of a copper processing mill. The mining company bought some of the homes from the Atlas Powder company in Dollar Bay and floated them across Torch Lake for use by its workers. They are all sided now, but underneath are the old logs used to build them. In the summer you can sit on the back deck and listen for the sand hill cranes who nest along Torch Lake. Our neighbor's bird feeder is visited by all the gold finches this side of the bridge. Enjoy the fall colors at the edge of the woods, and in the winter snow shoe up behind the house. Other than the robins singing in the morning in the summer and the chains of the snow plow rattling by late morning in the winter, the neighborhood is really quiet - you'll get a good night's sleep!
  • Cute place. Clean and very comfortable!

    Matthew2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Jane's place is fully loaded with all the amenities one needs for a weekend stay. A short distance away from Tech with a lovely view of the lake. Dog friendly is a great plus. We stay every time we are in Houghton, and will stay again.

    Annie2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Super cute yet spacious little house, perfect for visiting our son at Tech without staying amid the chaos of Houghton/Hancock for Winter Carnival. Extra touches include Wifi, Bluetooth speakers, games, coffee and plenty of hot water. Excellent hosts made it easy and pleasant to book and stay. We all loved this place!

    Carol2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Although I didn't interact with Jane in person, she was very attentive and nice via messaging. The house was great, and it was very close to Houghton's shops and restaurants, as well as a couple hole-in-the-wall bars and shops. No complaints!

    Liam2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Such a cozy home!

    Alex2019-12-20T00:00:00Z
  • Great couple! Very understanding and be a pleasure to talk to! Lovely and cozy place to stay in the freezing winter. Can't imagine how beautiful the place would be in summer! We will definitely visit again whenever we travel here again! Thank you!!

    LAKE SUPERIOR!!!!
  • Philip is fantastic and his property exceeds expectations in every way - from the tasteful interior to lake front location. Stay here and you won’t be disappointed!

    Danielle2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great location on Lake Superior. Nice views of the lake from the house. The house is really cute and nicely decorated.

  • This cabin was great for our ski trip. Perfect size for 4 people if you like each other! We saw dozens of deer, they came quite close and were pretty tame! Great views of Superior, great kitchen, great parking, very clean and comfy!

    Kellen2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Adorable little lakeside cottage! Gorgeous view of Lake Superior and very quiet, private location. Sauna also felt great after a long day of skiing ⛷

    Katelyn2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Great location on Lake Superior! Philip was a wonderful host and very responsive to all my questions and willing to give me any other help I may have needed. The cottage is well appointed and cozy. My Michigan Tech student and his friends were thrilled to have a homecooked meal, including grilled steaks, and a few hours away from the dorm. Would definitely recommend this property to my family and friends and hope to go back sometime.

    Beth2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • The Club House cottage is very cozy and decorated just like the photos. Easy access to the beach and an awesome view from the cottage. Plenty of chairs on the beach and the cottage deck made it feel very private. We would definitely return.

Beautiful sunsets and crashing waves on a remote beach - without 'roughing it!' Heated floors and fireplace will keep you toasty while you watch the Big Lake through a wall of glass. Full kitchen with cherry and granite so you don't have to leave.
Elegantly trimmed wilderness home with full amenities. Queen bed with two-sided fireplace serving bedroom and dining area. Unique black ash cathedral ceiling. In-floor radiant heat for ultimate comfort. Washer, dryer, and walk-in closet. It doesn't get cozier than this!
Walk the secluded beach for miles and be completely alone while you pick Lake Superior agates. One mile hike to 7 Mile Point Nature Conservancy. Snowmobile trail access 5 minutes away in Eagle River. Snowmobile trailer and sled parking available with heated shop in case your gear requires a little wrenching. Extensive hiking/snowshoeing wilderness trails right at your doorstep.
  • The location itself is secluded, but you are staying on the host’s property with their house right next to you. It was still private and completely separate, but like other reviews stated a little surprising. Other than that it was amazing. Top notch inside and out. Everything was there from pots and pans to tv and DVD player. Even an electric can opener. The unit itself was gorgeous and clean. Perfect place for a couple to get away in the Keweenaw.

    Thomas2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great place right on the lake, super secluded. The owner's home is right next to it but still felt like we were in our own little world. Perfect escape for a mental reset.

    Benjamin2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • I booked this place without looking at how far it was, come to find out it was a 12 hour drive! Every second of that 13 hours was worth it for this destination! It is absolutely stunning; sitting right on the edge of the lake and you can hear the waves in the cabin. If you're looking for a beautiful, private, secluded get away.. this place is it and do much more!

    Kaley2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Everything about this place was top of the line. The finishes, the appliances, the amenities, the furniture, the scenery, the location, and the host. This place has everything you need, and everything you didn't know you needed.

    Casey2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • This is by far the best Airbnb I have stayed in. My husband and I got to spend our one year anniversary admiring Michigan’s U.P. Fall colors and lakeshore. They gave us our space and the hospitality was great as there was parking, a cute welcome pumpkin, pitcher of cold water, brochures/books about the area etc. Brad’s place offered a fully functional and stocked home with all the essentials (salt/pepper/olive oil/lotion/shampoo/hair dryer etc). We were able to slow down and felt cozy and right at home in the space. We spent our evenings watching the sunset with wine in hand. Thank you so much for a glorious stay, we will be back!

    Rachel2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful place to stay, highly recommend it. It is right next to the owners house which we didn't expect but turned out just fine. Still had the privacy we were looking for. Beach is gorgeous.Everything you could need is available, really was perfect!

    Kristen2019-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful space and location. Quiet, relaxing. Off the beaten trail but close enough to food and other activities. Our second stay. Winter was beautiful up here. Fall is amazing as well. We will be back.

Calumet Village is a historic district from the areas rich copper mining heritage. You are within the boundaries of Keweenaw National Park. The building your are staying in is well over a century old. Tin ceilings, plaster walls, and old woodwork have been preserved. The apartment building is within walking distance of museums, art galleries, restaurants, gift shops, pubs, the village park, and a laundry mat. Within a few blocks there is a grocery and a dollar store. MTU campus is 15 minutes.
The building you are in was originally offices above the first floor retail. Looking at the facade you can see this was originally two 2 story buildings. These were built in the 1880's. In 1905 the buildings were combined and a third floor was added.
The village is very walk-able. Museums and shops are all up and down Fifth Street. Fine dining and pizza places are within walking distance. Agassis Park is one block over on fourth street with tables, grills, horse shoe pits, and a basketball court. Many century old heritage sites are within the village limits. In the colder months the Swedetown trails and sled hill is not far a way. Mount Bohemia is further up the road toward Copper Harbor. For summer visitors there are many public parks, beaches, hiking, biking, and ORV trails, as well as many unique small towns each with their own special character and history.
  • The apartment is clean and spacious.

    Nicole2020-02-17T00:00:00Z

  • Don’t let the secret out, but this is the perfect home base location for a group snowmobile trip! Not far from the trail and more of a “home away from home” than your typical hotel in the UP. Plenty of room for a group of four looking to have their own space at the end of the day too. Great hosts - highly recommended!

Quaint 1880s cottage located on 5 acres on top of Bumbletown hill, Keweenaw County with a panoramic view of the Huron Mountains and Lake Superior. Available June through mid-October. Nearby activities: hiking, fishing, swimming, biking, birding and nature trails, rock/agate picking, photography, wild flowers, mushroom, and berry picking, light house tours, nature preserves and parks, boating and much more...all within a very short scenic drive.
Brockway Mountain (site for hawk migration study), Isle Royale National Park, Seamans Mineral Museum, Keweenaw National Historic Park - Copper has shaped the people and places on the Keweenaw Peninsula for thousands of years. In the 1840s, the first mineral mining rush in the US took place here. Although the mines have since closed, the history lives on. We also offer guided occaisional nature tours for birding, plants, mushrooms, and berries.
The house is located in the small quiet village of Bumbletown (only 48 people) in Keweenaw County, MI.
  • Sparkling clean and very cozy. We felt right at home there. It was more like visiting relatives than staying in a strange house. A beautiful location that is convenient to your needs and still peaceful and private.

    Phillip2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely home-- very comfortable and attractive. Great central location for exploring the Keweenaw Peninsula. Sandra gifted us with a jar of thimbleberry jam, which she had picked and made herself. We enjoyed this personal touch. Plus she told us of some hiking places mostly only known to locals and we enjoyed going there. We would definitely stay here again!

    Diane2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • This is like your own home except maybe nicer. There are all the amenities that you have in your own home including fully stocked cupboards with excellent quality cookware, lots of utensils, high end appliances, including a KitchenAid Mixer and food processor, a nice, 6 burner gas stove with a convection oven, an extensive spice drawer, AND a French press coffee maker complete with whole coffee beans and a grinder. The home is furnished with high quality furniture, antiques, a lovely hardwood floor, and beautiful, original artwork. There are hundreds of books from multiple genres. There is a nice deck on the back with quality patio furniture. My favorite aspect of the home was the artistic use of colors. It all blends well. Some rooms are restful, while others are more invigorating. There are pops of accent colors throughout that make it appealing. We were able to use this location as a starting point to travel throughout the Keweenaw Peninsula with ease. There are numerous beaches, hiking opportunities, and a great star-gazing (dark sky) areas. There is a high granite hill behind the house that makes for beautiful sunrises and sunset photography.

    Scot2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Sandra’s house is charming and comfortable, and she was a responsive host. The location was a great base for exploring the Keweenaw. We would stay there again when we’re in the area.

  • Just spent a week at Sandra's place! We really enjoyed ourselves and everything was more than we expected. Super clean and tidy, tons of amenities for cooking and for relaxing! We loved the location and really enjoyed the peace and quiet after a day spent adventuring! Sandra provided great info and tips on places to see, explore, and eat! Best vacation in some time! Welcome to our home away from home! You'll enjoy a three bedroom home that has been recently redone to give you a modern experience woven with the old time feel of the UP. You will be 10 miles from Houghton/Hancock and Michigan Tech but just three blocks from endless miles of trails for snowmobiles and atvs. There is also wifi, a smart TV, Netflix, your controlled heat, and a two car garage available. We welcome you!
As we mentioned the modern kitchen is a bright spot as the rest of the house has the old time style of wood floors along with original wood trim throughout the house. There is an unheated attic upstairs if you need extra room to move around as well.
There is a small downtown with a few restaurants and a few small stores. Luckily there is a grocery store just a couple of blocks away!
  • The Blueberry house was perfect for our weekend in the UP. Comfortable beds, great location, and easy to check in and out!

Rustic mining house in the heart of the Keweenaw
This mining era home is in a great location for all Keweenaw adventures. It is half a mile from from nearest snowmobile/ATV trail, 30 miles to mountain biking in Copper Harbor, 24 miles to skiing at Mt Bohemia, roughly three miles to Calumet's historic district and 16 miles to Hancock and Houghton. Since purchasing the house in September 2019, a new furnace, a new water heater, and a kitchen disposal have been installed. There is also new plumbing and more insulation in the attic and basement. A fence, sauna, and new paint are planned after winter. But even now the house is clean and comfortable. The rental includes the vacant lot directly across the street. There is plenty of space for trailers, ATVs and snowmobiles. Though we are not snowmobilers (yet anyway), according to neighbors, the snowmobile trails can be reached directly from the house. The house has a large yard. Well behaved dogs are welcome, though there is a $30 fee per stay. The pet fee is billed separately from the reservation so let us know if you would like to bring your dog.
  • Wonderful stay in a cool old mining house! Fantastic hosts with recommendations to check out annual event in Calumet we may have not even known about. Loved our stay in the UP, nicest people around! Looking forward to another trip in summer/fall in the coming years!

    Rebecca2020-03-03T00:00:00Z

Quiet attic space with bedroom and private living room/office area- like a tiny apartment- in a historic home with original details. Use the sauna after skiing at Bohemia all day, have a beer at Keweenaw Brewing Company, and easily visit your friends at Michigan Tech! **COVID-19 precautions: Because we have a large college, a VA clinic, and a regional hospital in the area, I have decided to remain open while taking some precautions. Details are elsewhere in this listing.**
COVID-19 precautions: Because we have a large college, a VA clinic, and a regional hospital in the area, I have decided to remain open while taking some precautions: -There are no shared spaces for this listing. In the past, this listing offered access to my kitchen and living room, but I have suspended that for now. -I am using a four day buffer between guests -All linens are bleached, not just laundered -All surfaces will be wiped down with paper towels and a spray cleaner that effective against viruses (a towel and cleaning spray in the room for the use of guests, should they want to wipe down any surface) -I am supplying large garbage bags and asking all guests to bag their bed linens and towels for me when they leave. (Thanks for your cooperation.)
The neighborhood is in the "sweet spot"- a 5-min walk from Michigan Tech, 5-min the other way to a local cafe, less than a minute to the local grocery store! We're a 10 minute walk to our beautiful downtown, with local breweries, shops, and restaurants. You can see the local ski hill from my driveway! A 10 minute drive to Mount Bohemia and the Houghton Airport.

  • I've stayed in Airbnb's all over the world and this is by far the BEST thus far. Joy's home is not your average Airbnb. She takes the bnb part(bed and breakfast) very seriously and offers the most delicious HOME COOKED breakfast ever. She even went out of her way to accommodate my low carb diet. I have never met an Airbnb host more generous than Joy. The house is a beautiful antique home with hardwood floors throughout. Decorated beautifully, immaculately clean , comfortable beds and even offered a 3rd floor game/workout room. Joy and her husband were very helpful in giving directions and ideas on what to do. Our favorite: go to Carmelita's and try the Thimbleberry margarita. Omg. It's so good. We plan to take another trip to the Keweenaw peninsula this fall and will stay with Joy again provided she isn't booked due to being such an amazing host!

    Hattie2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Joy is a wonderful host and has such a fun and cozy home. Her breakfast, alone, is well worth it!

    Amber2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • This was my first time renting just a room and I was a little unsure what to expect. Jocelyn is such a great and friendly host. Everything was very clean and I had everything I needed. She was very gracious with the breakfasts provided and the location worked great to ski at Mt Bohemia. I would go back again.

    Chris2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • It was an unexpected treat to be able to stay at Joy’s home! My son and I made a trip to Mt. Bohemia and loved that we were a relatively short drive to the mountain, and minutes from downtown Calumet. Joy is such a gracious host! Her place was immaculate and her breakfasts were out of this world. In the middle of a frigid snowstorm, the driveway was always clear and the house was always toasty. And Joy was always there to greet us with a smile. I even started to call her mom because she took care of us so well. I will definitely book with her again when I head back to the Keweenaw!

    Marco2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay! Jocelyn was very caring and hospitable. The house has a lot of nice touches and character!!

    Abe2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Joy's place is great! A buddy and I were in town for a last minute ski trip to Mt. Bohemia and we feel very lucky to have found this place. Joy is an excellent cook and had breakfast ready for us each morning. The place was clean and comfortable. She and her husband were even kind enough to let us watch the Super Bowl with them. I'd definitely stay again.

    Kyle2020-02-03T00:00:00Z

The hosts run a nordic ski and bike store in ground floor in the same building. Hosts are very service minded and provided any help or advice we could benefit of. We spent about a week and had a wonderful time.

  • Clean rooms; Host is accessible and responsive. 2nd time renting this airbandb and will likely rent again in future.

This superbly maintained and very comfortable 100+ yr old farmhouse has everything you need to feel at home on the beach. High speed wifi and direcTV on the large flat screen tv. All linens are professionally laundered and all paper products and sundries are supplied. Washer/dryer. Locally roasted coffee, arrival snacks and fire wood provided for beach fires and near by SAUNA. Come see why our guests keep coming back year after year. ***UNIT SLEEPS UP TO 6. THIS IS NOT A REQUIREMENT***
Our location is just about as central as you can get while still remaining secluded and nestled into the woods on the shores of Lake Superior. Our location is a very private and zero cross traffic as the road to the cottage stops here. There are only four other neighboring cottages (all part of North Shore Cottages) for miles, unlike most locations along the shore with private neighbors by the dozen one after the next and just feet from major roads/highway. You are sure to fall in love with the vast undeveloped and forested shoreline surrounding our location.
5 minute drive to Calumet. 10 minute drive to Houghton. 30 minute drive to Copper Harbor.
  • We had a great time! The cottage was very clean and Philip responded to our questions very quickly. There was limited cell service but the Wi-Fi worked great. The sauna was a nice touch in the winter time.

    Wendy2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Great view of Lake Superior, easy to find just out of town.

    John2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice clean vintage beach house Philip has 4 Homes just steps to the beach very private at the end of a dead-end road right on Lake superior north facing He left us some of the best coffee he will ever have thanks so much

  • What a lovely stay. The host was responsive to any question or message, even while we were here. The welcome basket was so thoughtful. Furnishings in the red “storybrook” cottage were cozy and so well decorated. I loved everything! Most of all, and what really sells this cottage, is the PERFECT location. Sunsets over Lake Superior don’t get any better than from the private cottage beach. There is simply something magical about this Lake! I would highly recommend and would stay again! Just a note about location... we were in the area to visit our niece at MTU and it was a very close, easy drive into Houghton! Very doable if you are also visiting a student!

    Sarah2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Philip’s cabin is quaint, clean and comfortable. It feels like a true up north getaway and the views of the lake are stunning.

  • This cottage was warm, cozy and exceedingly clean. It is a great place to stay if you want to experience a mining era house in the area. During our visit the first week in April we were able to climb lake shore ice, watch wildlife, enjoy the silence of the frozen lake, and listen to babbling creeks swollen with melt water.

    Jean Ann2019-04-04T00:00:00Z
  • Philip’s Cottage is lovely! Lots of charming decor. Very clean, great view of the lake. We appreciated the eco friendly shampoos and soaps. Lots of attention to detail makes it a special experience that we will remember fondly. A+

  • This is apartment above a convenience store and is surprisingly very quiet, and is very clean and spacious. The kitchen is one of the best AirB&B we've experienced that is spacious, has new appliances, excellent provisions from pots & pans, condiments, spices, jams, etc.. It has a very large and comfortable living room. Excellent location in a historic mining town and in a great location to explore the Keweenaw Peninsula in the upper peninsular of Michigan. The hosts are very friendly and accommodating.
