This B & B is in a very tranquil and peaceful setting not too far from Williamsburg, VA. The home is full of character and charm and the room I stayed in was exactly as described. The owner is friendly and helpful and aims to make your stay pleasant. There is also a casual restaurant beside this inn which is delightful with excellent food and amazing waitresses. This inn is also very close to a popular bike trail ~ Enjoyed my stay and looking forward to visiting this inn again.

Thoroughly enjoyable experience! This old house is in a peaceful setting, very quiet, which is what we wanted. The room was comfortable and the bathroom was spectacular, with both a whirlpool tub and a walk-in shower. We sat outside on the little porch off our bedroom and enjoyed the birds and breezes. Our cocker spaniel enjoyed running free on the lawn and even got to touch noses with the horses in the paddock! Robin's breakfast were substantial and yummy! We felt completely at home, more like family than strangers. The only negative is poor internet access, which Robin has no control over, due to their location in a very rural area. I didn't want to work, anyway! We'll absolutely return if we get the chance!

Everything about the stay was amazing. Robin and her family went well out of their way to accommodate us--accepting our late arrival and accompanying pets with good grace. The beds were very, very comfortable, Robin cooked us incredible Southern breakfasts every morning (sausage casserole, pancakes for our picky child, fresh fruit, an incredible potato cheese thing, and plenty of coffee....), and introduced us to Raleigh, the friendliest horse ever. Robin and her family made us feel so welcome! I hope we can come back! The house itself is exquisite--like stepping back in time. Everything is beautiful, historic, and obviously cherished. It feels like a living museum--except that you can sit in the chairs, curl up with a book on one of the many porches. We didn't use the nearby bike trail, but Robin told me it runs from Richmond, about 17 miles away. Adding another layer of comfort, next door to the house is a cafe/restaurant/bar with more amazing food (fried green tomatoes, catfish sandwiches, steak, cobbler). There's also an historic courthouse and a post office, but otherwise, nothing much to the town. Which makes it even more perfect as a retreat. We were in town to go to Williamsburg (about 20 miles away) but if I could do the weekend again, we would have stayed local. There are tons of old plantations in the area that have tours (not sure of schedules), lots of antiques stores, lakes, etc. By comparison, Williamsburg felt crowded and fake. There's also a convenience store about ten miles up the road that has fast food, gas, and even an electric car charging station.

The Hogans made me feel very welcome. For example, Terry emailed me and asked what I would like to drink in the morning - coffee, tea, etc. and what I wanted in it. She also asked about what I wanted to drink at night - wine, beer, etc. The space was as advertised. The room was nice, it had its own bath and a private entrance. I asked for a table for my CPAP machine and that was provided. It was lovely.

Terry and Alan were wonderful hosts! Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted, shown the premises and even met two fury friends! The unit was well stocked with all the necessities a traveler could ever need: fresh towels, toiletries, clean bedding, bottled refreshments, fruit, nuts, and travel guides! I certainly appreciate the attention to detail this family has and the cleanliness of their home. They definitely put the "C" in southern comfort and truly aim to please. Along with great conversation, this family was very accommodating and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, it surely reminded me of home in more ways than one. -Moni

Having stayed in Terry and Alan's home for roughly three months (while relocating from Georgia to Virginia), I feel very qualified to offer this review! I highly recommend their home. The accommodations were exactly as described or perhaps even nicer. Terry and Alan went above and beyond to anticipate and address any needs. They took care of the normal things (linens, coffee, cleaning, etc.) wonderfully, but they also made my wife and me feel we had a home. These are GREAT people with a fantastic, comfortable home in a beautiful and peaceful setting. If you want a place with the peace and quiet of the country yet convenient to Richmond and Williamsburg, there is no better choice. As happy as my wife and I are to be in our new home in Williamsburg, we honestly miss our Charles City County "home" and our friends Terry and Alan.

Terry and Alan are wonderful hosts. Their home becomes your home for the stay. Virginia is beautiful and though the accommodation is basically in the middle of nowhere, the peace and quiet at night is fantastic. Crickets sing you to sleep. Terry welcomed me with a basket of fruit, nuts and some chocolate. there was a coffeemaker and a fridge so I could make my own breakfast. The dogs Pierre and Louis are adorable :-) If you need a place to stay with a friendly word and gesture, this is the place to be. I made a reservation at AirBnB but found friends!

Terry is a wonderful host, and made us feel especially welcome. Our bedroom was lovely, with a comfy queen sized bed and cute little rocking chair. It was bigger than it looked in the pictures. The decor throughout is cheerful with lots of lighting. Everything was sparkling clean. We stayed here because we were attending a family wedding nearby and then visiting relatives, so didn't spend much time at Terry's. We did have the whole downstairs living area to ourselves, and it was a great place to relax after our drive. There was a coffee maker with a selection of hot beverages, a fridge stocked with water and milk for our coffee and even a bowl of fruit for a snack. Unfortunately, it was a cloudy, cool day, so we didn't spend any time outdoors, but there was a quiet patio looking out onto a secluded back yard that must be lovely in nicer weather. The neighborhood is very nice and quiet with lots of trees. Although Terry mentioned her dogs in her listing, we never heard them bark or saw them close up. They are extremely well behaved. Terry made us homemade blueberry muffins, and we thoroughly enjoyed hearing about some of Terry and Alan's adventures over breakfast. They are both easy going, non-intrusive and welcoming. I would recommend this aptly named Quiet Country Retreat to anyone! Thanks for a lovely stay, Terry and Alan.

Terry and Allen were the most friendly and thoughtful hosts. The bedroom was large, clean and comfy bed and linens were much appreciated. The great "poodles" were so sweet and did not even know they were in the family room when we awoke in the AM. The kitchenette and family room use was so (URL HIDDEN) felt just like we were at home. Beautiful home, lovely yard and patio all for the use of the traveler. Close to Charles River Plantation homes. We saw Beverly and Shirley, both worthwhile. Great stay...only wish it had been longer. Great value !! 10+

Terry and Alan were the perfect hosts. The room was lovely and spotless, as was the private bathroom across the hall and the bed was quite comfortable. The kitchenette was stocked with coffee and tea, milk and bottled water. The quiet and bucolic setting was wonderful, and though seemingly remote, actually only 25 minutes from Richmond. The hosts even invited us to wine and hors d'oeuvres made from their homegrown vegetables. Highly recommended!

Terry and Alan went above and beyond during our recent stay at their beautiful home. My husband and I could not have asked for a more pleasant, comfortable stay. There were two major reasons we loved our stay at the Nance-Major House. One is the house itself and the other is the host. Robin is the utmost in graciousness and hospitality. She could not have been more accommodating or helpful. Among other things, Robin put a Christmas tree up for us in the parlor. When we entered the house, we were entering a piece of American history. The front staircase and the wood flooring are beautiful. The house is very large on three floors with a half step here and there. The back yard is flat, green, serene and relaxing. A lovely, large horse is in the field to the left of the house. The Courthouse Grill is to the right. It is a 35+ minute drive into Williamsburg from the house along one of the most picturesque roads in America. Keep in mind that this home is also rented as a B&B. Therefore, we found clothes in a closet and lots of food in cabinets, the fridge and freezer. We have not had this experience in other rentals. Everything else was very clean and in excellent condition. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love a return visit.

We stayed that house with National Uzbekistan Cycling team to participate in the World Cyclin Championship in Richmond. We are very glad with that house and owner. This house and area are great. The landlord is very polite and friendly. So we recommend that house to everyone. Gleb Groysman

The house has 6 bedrooms and we used all of them. They were clean and comfortable. The hostess made sure the house was stocked with the food, towels, and products our group requested. She provided a delicious brunch and when we had trouble with a lamp she fixed it immediately. The screened in porch was a great place for our four generations to gather. The Courthouse Grill next door was a fun convenient place for one of lunches and one supper. It will be a spectacular property when the kitchen undergoes a deep cleaning and it is de-cluttered.

Beautiful location and amazing hosts! Patricia and Larry were incredibly accommodating and friendly. The breakfast was also excellent and large. I would highly recommend staying here if you are in the area for a wedding, winery tour, or just looking for a weekend escape.

This is a wonderful riverside home, the hosts are welcoming and the accommodations are comfortable. We had a group of 7 people and Gary and Minney are terrific hosts. We only wish we could have stayed longer. This is a vacation spot. We would have liked to dip a line in the water (apparently the fishing is good) and searched out some kayaks or stand up paddle boards to explore the river. This property is also close to the new Richmond - Williamsburg bike trail so if you have bikes, bring them!

Gary and Nani were great hosts. They were able to accommodate our extremely delayed check in and the room was absolutely perfect. It was very clean and private with a spacious attached bathroom that had everything we needed in it. The house is full of beautiful plants and feels very homey. We had a great stay at the Chickahominy River Getaway! Sean's space was perfect for my family. Exactly as described, there was a living space that included a living room and eat-in kitchen with all the amenities necessary to cook and enjoy some quiet time at "home." There were two bedrooms and a full bathroom. We visited Williamsburg, Yorktown, Jamestown & Richmond during our week there. Each site was a short drive from this quiet retreat. If ever in the area again, we would definitely stay there again.

We stayed here with our 8-year-old during a visit to Williamsburg. The property is almost exactly 30 minutes from both Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens. The cottage is very private, even though it is attached to the house, and the location is very quiet and serene. The cottage was absolutely immaculate and had family-friendly bonuses like games, movies and a swing set in the back (and drums in the upstairs loft, which our kid enjoyed more than we did.) We had some problems with the wifi after some storms rolled in, but Sean was very responsive and had it fixed in no time. I would especially recommend this property for runners and cyclists, as the area would be great for both activities. We would definitely stay here again next time we're in Williamsburg.

This is a great place for a weekend getaway with nice scenery. It is off the beaten path. The kitchen is well outfitted, but bring food... it is a long haul to a restaurant for breakfast.

Susan was an excellent host. She was very willing to work with our flight schedules for check in. Really appreciated her provisions (coffee, fruit, yogurt, etc.) upon arrival and her well stocked kitchen. The deck was wonderful for early morning coffee. It was also a great place for conversation throughout the day. Very peaceful, clean and comfortable. Fun fact: she is inviting her guests to weigh in on new paint color for her walls.

My husband and I visited the area to go catfish fishing for a week. Susan and Russ were absolutely incredible. Upon our arrival they showed us around the house and had a goodies waiting for use until we were able to get to the grocery store. Throughout our stay they were available to answer any questions about the area, places to visit, or where to get a meal as well as suggestions to go fishing. The house was wonderful! Simple and comfortable! We had the place to ourselves with only one other house barely in view. It was perfect for everything we wanted in a vacation home. We cant wait to return to see more of the area.

Susan was an amazing host! I wanted to rent a space to host a cookout for my family reunion, so you can imagine my surprise when Susan responded, "A family reunion sounds wonderful"! Susan greeted us warmly upon our arrival, and carefully showed us the entire house and grounds, and made sure to mention items we might find useful when hosting a large group. She was also extremely responsive to all emails, and checked in us in a way that was helpful and supportive rather than overbearing. We were thrilled with our stay, my larger family was thrilled to have this beautiful, tucked away location for our cookout, and we would definitely rent this space again in the future. P.S. - Russ, Susan's husband, was also very helpful when Susan left town for a quick trip. And, we enjoyed visiting his pottery studio and getting a couple of pieces I know we will cherish forever! The Yoga house is even better than what its description lets you think ! It is a very relaxing place and my kids and I had a great time there. Susan was waiting for us when we arrived, she gave us a tour of the house, explaining everything. She had prepared the house well, she had thought about everything for all of us (1 adult, 2 kids, 1 dog). I highly recommend the Yoga house !

First, Marie and Graham are wonderful hosts. Love to travel and love to the music, she was band practice on Saturday while we tie. Before the band practice sought to advance our understanding, we have fine excitement in a hurry. Provides a nice dinner given day. Various pizza loaded with fresh leak, and wine ... They all excellent. Go through the navigation to the address given to you, arrived without a problem ... enters along the promised sign, there was a place to stay just the right way. Bedding was also good, room size was good, I was able to take advantage of all a place to stay can be seen in other photos. Our work is to go out and have been looking at the river, drinking coffee out during your stay. And in a nice hotel in a quiet place and recommend it for those who want to. Thank host two minutes.

This was our second time staying at this James River house (and probably not our last) and just as before, it was magical and lived up to all of our expectations. Doesn't disappoint at all!

The bed was comfortable, and the view was gorgeous. However, I was told there would be breakfast and when we arrived, we were told we could make our own and that there were eggs in the fridge..Yet When we woke up, all the regular eggs were used, and There were rotten goose eggs left for us to cook. We had to go out and buy breakfast ourselves. There was also no Television in the room. It Was not worth the money we paid for one night.

My long weekend at this beautiful and unique James River waterfront property was perfect...the hosts have thoughtfully provided everything a guest could want, including a pastoral view of the river, pretty country gardens, elegant-but-never-fussy decor, ample linens, self-catered breakfast, and complete privacy. It was the perfect pied-à-terre for a relaxing weekend and exploring the many area historical attractions. I'd love to return for another stay and have already told several friends about this wonderful listing. Thank you, Marie, for making me feel right at home!

Graham and Marie were very welcoming and thoughtful. They really opened up their home to us and were lovely to talk to. Graham made us a hearty and delicious breakfast and had good information on things to do nearby. They also had the sweetest dog we've ever met. The house was amazing, a very good place for anyone who likes unique architecture. Out in the woods by a lake so very quiet and peaceful, just bring bug spray. I was hoping it would be within walking distance to more things. It technically is, but you'd be walking a couple miles on the side of a highway without a sidewalk. The highway is not very busy, but it is curvy. There is a beautiful and historic battlefield nearby, a great restaurant and Richmond is less than 30 minutes away. I recommend it!

This place is clean, quiet and situated just far enough from city life to appreciate the beauty of small town living. We visited 2 wineries and a great seafood restaurant all within a 30 minute drive- not including the ferry ride to Jamestown which was convenient and fun! The house was well maintained, clean and the perfect getaway. We especially appreciated being welcomed with a note from the owner and a bottle of wine from a local winery. Everything about our stay was wonderful! The online pictures of the deck & river don't do it justice! The multilevel deck gave us plenty of places to enjoy the beautiful weather & watch the resident eagles soar overhead. We caught channel cats, eels, bass & more off the dock. Kitchen was well stocked with all the dishes, pans & such that we needed to make a big dinner. Couches, beds and all were comfy. They have done a great job decorating to make the space feel clean & inviting. The hosts are incredibly welcoming!

It was clean and comfortable with all the amenities of home. Anne was fantastic to work with and quick to answer any questions, and she gave us great info on the general area/restaurants. Having a nearby restaurant pick us up at the dock for a boat ride to lunch/dinner was awesome. It feels out of the way, so peaceful and quiet, but has super easy access to get to all the local tourist attractions (Williamsburg, Busch Gardens, etc.). The deck is fabulous--the pics really don't do it justice. We loved kayaking all around and fishing from the dock, but the wildlife, especially watching the eagles soar, was a highlight. This place was exactly what my family was looking for, and so much more!

Great house for a weekend getaway with the family. The deck is great and the easy access to the water is perfect for some laid back fishing. It was a bit chilly the weekend we stayed, so unfortunately, we didn't get to enjoy the deck and backyard as much as we would have liked; I imagine the deck is even better when taken advantage of in the summer! While the house is secluded, the drive to Williamsburg is short and easy, making it the perfect place to come back to after a long day. Anne was easy to get in touch with and answered all questions promptly. Would definitely recommend!

We spent our memorial day weekend at Anna's river house. House is very well appointed and clean. Anna was kind enough to greet us when we arrive and walked through the check-in process. The house is pretty big and airy and it is located on the hill overlooking the James River. View is truly amazing. We had no problem communicating with Anna as she was always fast responding to our inquires. I recommend this beautiful house to the family who wanst to spent their vacations in peaceful and quite place surrounded by beautiful nature. I love about: Spacious, quite, beautiful, & clean house/ amazing view/ lovely owner, great outdoor activity places such as beautiful beach, strawberry farm, park, etc/ amenities and some basic food items are stocked up Good to know: No near grocery store so please shop plenty of foods before you get there/ Since the house is located near river, there are some mosquitos and bugs so it is good to bring bug repellent/ Bring your swinsuit/ There are total 4 bed rooms. 2 bed rooms located on the 2nd fl of the house (with view), and one is in the attic and the last one is in the basement.

We absolutely loved staying at Anna's house on the James River! We are four friends who wanted to visit the historic sites around Williamsburg. Anna's house was our sanctuary for the two evenings after the hubbub of the tourist areas. Imagine the scene: four friends sitting on the porch, sipping wine and watching the sunset, with eagles, osprey, and fireflies for companions. The house itself is very spacious and comfortable and easily accessible to the historic areas by the free Jamestown-Scotland ferry.

The host was wonderful and very accommodating. She personally came over and spent time helping us built an itinerary. She also made sure we had food in the kitchen and was flexible with our check in and check out time. The view from the house overlooking the river is beautiful and the town has its unique character.

We went to the River house for a quick weekend getaway to unwind and I can definitely say that we got what we were hoping for and more. The house is masterfully designed and well appointed. Apart from the magnificent view of the James River from the balcony and wrap around porch, each of the 3 rooms were updated and had access to a full bathroom. The ferry that will take you to and from Williamsburg is about a 25-min drive. Anna and Stephanie were excellent hosts who were always available to assist in any way. They even stocked the fridge and allowed us full access of the pantry for essential food items - which was a nice bonus. Overall, we were very happy with our stay at the River house. Not having TV and Wi-Fi was a little challenging but was a welcome change for us. I would highly recommend the River house to anyone looking to relax and unplug.

In a single word.... AMAZING. We had a WONDERFUL 4th of July weekend at Anna's beautiful property! VERY spacious accommodations that were far from life's normal everyday distractions. No internet definitely took some getting used to, but we managed. The kids LOVED taking the ferry into Jamestown. Overall, we had a fantastic and memorable weekend.

Anything we needed, Anna was texting me back right away telling me everything. She was a great host and the house was more than expected! I will be coming back for sure!

My stay with the Minneys was most pleasant. Nani. Minney facilitated my comfort and every need, and they were warmly welcoming. Their home is spacious, very well-appointed, comfortable and very quiet. I appreciated their attentiveness after a rather long car trip. Gary Minney was an interesting conversationalist and his lifelong experiences were edifying. Perhaps, in future, all of us will have the opportunity to exchange experiences. I appreciate Gary's concern for my return home in a snow-sleet storm.

Gary and Noni were wonderful hosts. They were quick to respond when I had questions prior to arrival. Their home is lovely with a fantastic river view. Their home is very clean and comfortable. They provide house slippers, as they prefer that you do not wear your shoes in the house. They were so kind to make us coffee and toast the next morning, which was very much appreciated as there were not any places to grab breakfast before heading out for a bike ride. Wi-Fi is available and they have many brochures of things to do and see in the area. Noni is happy to make recommendations for places to eat. The bedrooms are like guest rooms in a friend's home rather than a hotel room (i.e., bed, dresser, closet, but no TV) and there are sitting areas inside and out that you are able to use so you don't have to sit on your bed in your room. They also have mini-fridges available in the area outside the bedrooms.

We had an amazing experience with Gary and his wife, Nani. They were more than hospitable and it truly felt like a home away from home. We stayed for a week while we were training at Ft. Lee (only ~15 minutes away) and fished everyday off his dock out on the James River. Nani made us home cooked meals and always made sure we were taken care. Couldn't have had a better experience!

We had a great time for our first Airbnb experience. Gary and his wife were wonderful hosts, always checking to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. It was a perfect get away!

Sean has a beautifull home . He has made our stay here very comfortable . He has Been very accommodating to our needs . He is a very friendly person and we hope his home is availible next year when we return.

There was lots to do inside the house, while outside it was peaceful and quiet! The baby was thrilled with the elaborate playground set, and there were lovely quiet roads for pushing the stroller. There was space for everyone to eat, drink and be merry; the kitchen made our chef brother happy. The game room made the whole family reunion happy, with a pool table and pinball machine, a cabinet video game and a movie projector and screen! The large living room was comfortable for the whole group for TV watching. The master suite is impressive with plenty of room to lounge, and a large bathroom with a garden tub. We also rented the attached Cottage, which was a perfect clean little retreat for those needing a break from the big group, and a quiet space to go to sleep early or stay in bed until late.

The house was very nice, located close to Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown. Very comfortable for a family of five and more. The host was very helpful, and the house had everything needed for a great vacation.

The house is roomy and comfortable. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. It is about 30 minutes from all of the major attractions, although you do have to travel a bit to find a market. Sean was responsive to questions we had the first few days. The master bedroom is very large, with a sitting area and large bathroom. I would say that it is larger than your average hotel room. We used the sitting area for our luggage/clothes, as the dressers and closets were full. The other two bedrooms were roomy. 2 of our kids shared the queen sized bed in the one room. 2 of the kids stayed it the room with the day bed with pull out trundle. I would recommend that anyone with toddlers check around before letting them wander. Our 2 year old was very skilled at finding the ant traps around the house. I would also suggest a child safety lock on the floor level kitchen cabinet with medicine in it. We blocked it with a cooler.
