  • Our stay at Ezio's place was perfect. He was a great host and gave us all the information we needed. The house was pleasantly warm, elegant with segments of beautiful rustic stone wall, and spotlessly clean. We slept incredibly well, the surroundings were very peaceful and it was just the rest we needed after a day of climbing. We also enjoyed our breakfast in the sun in front of the house.

  • This is an amazing mountain house! The apartments are at the bottom of the house, the house is on a slope, a beautiful view of the mountains opens from the terrace of the house - this is great! The apartment is renovated, everything is perfectly clean, everything is thought out, everything is done very carefully and with a soul! Ezio is extremely kind and helpful, he told us everything, the house has complete instructions on how to get to local attractions, what to see and what to admire! We went to Pietra Bismantova- the views are superb !! Recomend for everybody!!

    Nadezhda2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent welcome, nice and functional accommodation, impeccable cleanliness. The place is silent, surrounded by nature and with an extraordinary view over the valley. Ezio and his mother are people of great kindness and sympathy. We will definitely be back!

  • We stayed at Ezio for a mini vacation. Ezio and Signora Bruna were very kind and helpful. The apartment is very nice, well kept and clean.

    Alice2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation is very well-kept, clean and spacious. The location is quiet and you can enjoy a beautiful view over the valley. Ezio and his mother welcomed us with great kindness and availability, also fulfilling some of our requests beyond what they were required to fulfill. Three beautiful days spent under the Bismantova stone

    Michele2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Newly renovated, Ezio's flat has an excellent amount of kitchen devices. There's virtually everything you need to feed yourself! Ezio rents out this flat very professionally, perfect explanations, superfast replys. On the same side both Ezio and his mum who lives in the upper floor are very kind, hospitable people. There is no wifi and mobile reception can be weak. But nature around is amazing, especially wild valley of Secchia river. Go out and explore! Full recommendation for this flat. Thank you!

    Christoph2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • All perfect. From the kindness of the owner Ezio, to the cleaning, to the apartment equipped with everything necessary. Really recommended

    Chiara2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Impeccable cleanliness at Ezio's home, in addition to the quiet, good location for excursions in the surroundings and excellent hospitality. Definitely to be recommended also in the light of the excellent quality / price ratio.

  • We loved the stay in Massimo's house. We really felt part of his family. He integrated us to some of his farm routine. He shared his passion of balsamic vinegar handmade production. Thanks for everything, Samuel and Paulo

  • Great location - you can start a trek literally a few steps away. There are very few houses nearby, which makes the place quiet and peaceful. The views were breathtaking. Numerous restaurants and cafes/bars are in a few towns very close by. The owners, clearly passionate about the area and its treasures, were very responsive and gave us a nice welcome.

It is located at the end of a closed road (not a passageway) and is furnished with great care; we found it clean, and communication with Maria Carla was clear and timely. Marvellous view. Carpineti, Emilia-Romagna, Italy

Ideale per pranzi e cene all'aperto.
  • I spent three days in this beautiful house, surrounded by green hills. Perfect for those who want to spend a few days in an oasis of peace and tranquility. Nicely furnished, spotless house, friendly and helpful hosts from booking to check-out. Highly recommended!

  • Beautiful house in the hills with very beautiful details, total relaxation and beautiful view.

    Attilio2019-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • What to say ... really a beautiful place! The house is spacious, clean and really does not lack anything. My favorite corner, however, is the outdoor terrace ... dine there at sunset is one of those things that for me are priceless. Immersed in tranquility, however, just move a little to admire many beautiful places of the Apennines and those who like the mountains can go to Febbio where there are lifts to reach the summit of Mount Cusna! Finally I thank Gabriele and Marzia for their availability which made the stay even more enjoyable!

  • Cozy and clean house, attention to detail but especially for the guest. Beautiful landscape and complete tranquility

    Lorenzo2018-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a carefree week immersed in the green of a sweet hilly landscape that led us to dream. We felt comfortable and found every possible comfort. The house is perfect for those who want to relax and at the same time be able to go to discover enchanting and welcoming places ... Sources of Poiano, Pietra di Bismantova, Castello di Carpineti and little more 'in the' also the House of Tibet (Votigno ). We thank Marzia and Gabriele for this wonderful stay in a location immediately striking style and care for every detail (even good music). We will be back as soon as possible. Romana and Roberto

  • Mr. Giuseppe is a truly unique and special person, attentive to the well-being of the guests. The house is very comfortable with all the comforts .. what about the "Merry Christmas" tart kindly offered by his daughter-in-law .. highly recommended we will find him in the summer Paola and Beppe

  • Wonderful location with amazing views! Everything was absolutely sparkling clean! Giuseppe was so helpful and kind. We would highly recommend B&B Borella!!!

    Margaret2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • We have just returned from a wonderful stay at Giuseppe's home. Our three children were thoroughly occupied with the pool, trampoline, hammock, volleyball posts and open space. The B&B was exceptionally clean and well maintained and we could not have asked for a friendlier host. Giuseppe and his family were just lovely from the time we arrived. The location is excellent with much to do for a family with young children. The small town is a 5 minute drive away with a supermarket and other shops. We highly recommend this accommodation. Many thanks Giuseppe!

  • Excellent hospitality. We were 6 people and we all had a great time. Convenient to reach the Pietra di Bismantova and other points of interest in the area.

  • Great place to stay in a wonderful mountain region. Nice views. Guiseppe is a wonderful host, always ready to help.

  • Our stay at Borello was fantastic - the views from the pool are great, and the place is very isolated so lovely and quiet. We were welcomed on arrival, and presented with a lovely breakfast every morning which we took down to enjoy by the pool. The apartment doesn’t have air conditioning or fans so can become quite hot - especially with young children - but with the pool on hand we were always able to cool down. Our hosts were extremely helpful and accommodating, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

    Jimmy2019-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • Very quiet and cozy place away from the city buzz. Even though host didn't speak English, we managed everything with the Google translate. Happy that we had a chance to stay here.

Cavola di Toano, Reggio Emilia, Italy

La Stalla at Villa Bonicelli is a recently renovated barn conversion that sleeps 2 people in style. It is situated in Villa Bonicelli, a picturesque and peaceful hamlet in the heart of the Appennini mountains of Emilia Romagna. The property is well equipped, comfortably furnished and boasts stunning views of the mountains and the river Dolo. It's an ideal spot for couples looking for a romantic hideaway, but can also be rented in conjunction with one or both of our other properties.
La Stalla is a self-catering property. Although a modern conversion, the barn retains much of its original charm, with exposed beams and stonework throughout. The open-plan ground floor has a sitting and dining area with wood pellet-burning stove, television, DVD player and film library; a well-equipped kitchen corner with gas hob, fridge-freezer and washing machine; and a bathroom (on the ground floor) with charming small wooden bath tub imported from Thailand and separate shower cubicle. Stairs lead up to a mezzanine floor, where you will find a spacious double bedroom with a cosy seating area and large picture windows (with remote-control-operated electronic blinds) that look out onto the beautiful mountain landscape. Free, limited wifi is available in the outdoor courtyard and by the pool, but please note that because of the thick stone walls, we cannot guarantee a signal in the house. La Stalla has a private east-facing terrace that looks onto the Appennini mountains and the river Dolo. What better spot to enjoy an alfresco meal (there's a fantastic large stone/marble barbecue) or a glass of vino as the sun goes down? Whether you're simply looking to relax and recharge your batteries, or whether you are looking for a more active holiday of outdoor pursuits and sight-seeing, our property will provide the perfect base for you to enjoy and explore this unspoilt corner of Italy.
In the immediate vicinity the river Dolo, which is in places deep enough to bathe, is on your doorstep and there are some spectacular walks that can be enjoyed directly from your front door. There's also a wealth of wildlife to observe – sharp-eyed guests might spot woodpeckers or golden Oracles in the forest, deer and hare in the fields and birds of prey circling over the mountains. This area is extremely popular with walkers, cyclists and bikers thanks to the stunning mountainous scenery. There are marked walking routes that can be picked up from Villa Bonicelli, from the river or from the nearby hamlet of Castagnola, including one that takes you across a rope bridge (see photo). There is also an excellent Via Ferrata that enables less experienced climbers to access some of the more dramatic routes usually only accessible to the expert mountaineer! About 30 min away is the Pietra di Bismantova, a magnificent sandstone plateau over 1,000m high. It is a climbers' paradise, with about fifty routes and climbing variants. Guided treks, half-day climbing lessons etc at Bismantova can be arranged – please contact us for more information. The Parco del Gigante, one of the largest parks in Emilia, is great for walking and horse riding. The area has many restaurants and pizzerias that offer great value for money, including one approx 10 mins' drive away in Farneta. It is a friendly family-run restaurant with a lovely terrace on which to enjoy your meal. We have a partnership with this restaurant and can offer tailor-made cooking courses there on request (advance booking essential). It's a fantastic experience that comes highly recommended - our guests have said that it was a highlight of their holiday. For an alternative foodie experience, we have Fabio who will take you in for the day and you can prepare lunch for his clientele and learn many local food customs as well as have your own lunch prepared by Fabio. For a quick hours trip look no further than our local Parmesan producer in Quara to learn all about - and taste - the best Parmesan around! Get there early for a tour of the dairy and to see the artisans at work, ask Janet for details for a guided tour in English. Throughout summer and autumn there are 'feste' being held most weekends in one or other of the local villages, with the focus of the celebrations ranging from wine and beer to chestnuts, mushrooms and truffles, not to mention various obscure saints! The nearby town of Toano (approx 7km) has a small selection of bars, pizzerie, shops etc and is also home to one of the best preserved Roman churches in the Appenines. It also has a lovely outdoor swimming pool, which is open during the school holidays (early June to early September, see pic). Alternatively Costa Bona and Cerredolo have great restaurants, for information please ask Janet on arrival. Emilia Romagna is one of Italy's most prosperous regions and is famed for its culinary delights, making it an ideal destination for food lovers. Among other things, it is home to fresh pasta (tortellini, tortelloni...), ragù sauce, Parma ham, Parmesan cheese and traditional balsamic vinegar as well as Lambrusco, which is a light and very drinkable sparkling red. 'La Stalla' is very well placed for a day trip to any of the four main cities in Emilia Romagna, all of which are worth a visit. The ancient Roman town of Reggio Emilia is 50km away. Modena (60km) is a thriving city whose Duomo is considered one of the greatest examples of European Romanesque architecture and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Parma, one of the most affluent towns in Italy, is 70km away. Bologna, the region's capital city, is a real delight, with its characteristic red-brick buildings and its over 40km of covered porticos (useful in bad weather). It is also home to the oldest university in Europe, founded in 1088, earning it one of its nicknames, La Dotta (The Learned). Also known as La Grassa (The Fat), Bologna takes its food very seriously; in fact, it is considered by many to be the food capital of Italy. This area is a car and motorbike enthusiast's dream come true - Lamborghini (Dosso, nr Ferrara), Ferrari (Maranello), Maserati (Modena) and Ducati (near Bologna) all have their factories and museums in the region. For day-trips slightly further afield, a day at the seaside can be enjoyed at La Spezia or Lerici, both about two and a half hours away – and don't miss the Cinque Terre, five beautiful cliff-top villages dotted along the rugged Ligurian coastline that can only be reached by foot or by train. They're charming and surprisingly unspoilt, thanks to their UNESCO status. Alternatively, head to the Adriatic coast to the legendary resort of Rimini, with its 15km of sandy beaches (2.5hrs approx).
  • Janet’s place is a little piece of paradise. Tucked in the hills of toano, it is a great escape from the business of everything. The views are stunning and the house is so cozy. There was no Wifi, which was a blessing and a curse for us, as we both work from our computers. Janet was extremely helpful when we got a bit lost getting to her place. She also provided such thoughtful touches - food and where to eat, and what to do while there. The pool was an awesome feature and we loved spending our days lazing by it. We can’t wait to come back

  • We had a great stay at the house. The landscape is amazing :)

    Niklas2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Such a stunning property and amazing location. View is exquisite! Would love to visit again soon. Make sure you have a car as the nearest shops and restaurants are a drive away - but the remoteness (and view) is it’s charm.

    Janne2018-06-13T00:00:00Z
  • the house is really such as the present site. Very nice, very clean with everything needed and a view of the vineyards and mountains. A private terrace with BBQ, deck chairs and a dining table outside. The pool is next door and very nice with deck chairs, umbrellas, to relax with a very nice view. the house is in the middle of small mountain hamlets with Quara, Toano or Cavola not too far to go shopping, have a coffee, enjoy an ice cream or eat in the local restaurants that offer quality and very affordable cuisine. Possibility of hiking starting from the house or a little further by car, the region is a pool of hiking trails for all levels (via ferrata also). Possibility to visit Bologna, Parma and even Verona in one day. The follow up before arrival is perfect, Polly sent us a guide to the area and guide the house with lots of tips. Upon arrival Janet greeted us very kindly and had us buy something to eat and drink the first night. Only small flat no wifi connection in the house but the 4 G passes very well, which did not bother us too much because we enjoyed reading. Many movies are also available on a hard drive. I really recommend this place for nature lovers who want to discover this beautiful region of Emilia Romagna.

  • I stayed at Chiara for one night and although short it was a very pleasant stay. Chiara and Luis are kind, friendly and extremely helpful people. The room is very spacious and pretty. The bathroom is very clean and with refined details. Highly recommended!

  • The stay at Ca 'Ceriola was extraordinary. Chiara and Luis are exquisite, precise and kind people. The house is warm, welcoming and spacious. The living room is perfect for those who want to climb in the areas of the area such as Ceriola or the Pietra di Bismantova. Both places are very short and the experience we had in this BnB was perfect. Really recommendable!

  • Staying at Chiara's place was wonderful. Chiara is such an amazing host and her home is cozy, warm and comfortable.

Casa Vigneto is a traditional, rustic stone house situated in Villa Bonicelli, a picturesque hamlet in the beautiful countryside of Emilia-Romagna, with magnificent views of the Appennini mountains and the river Dolo. Guests have access to a shared pool, which is a 1-2 min walk across a small vineyard. Casa Vigneto sleeps 6-7, making it ideal for families or small groups. Larger groups have the option of renting it in conjunction with one or both of our other properties in the village.
Casa Vigneto sleeps up to seven people – there are three bedrooms, plus a day bed with comfortable single mattress in the upstairs sitting room. The house is set back from the road with a garden, shared with one other property, to the front. Guests have use of an outdoor table with chairs, sun loungers and a barbecue. The property is furnished with many antique one-off pieces, making it a quirky and original holiday home at which to base yourselves while exploring this stunning and little-known area of Italy. On the ground floor is a large open-plan kitchen/diner with wood-burning stove, exposed stonework and an unusual vaulted ceiling. The dining table seats six, and there is also a comfortable seating area with TV and DVD library. Also on the ground floor is a double bedroom (again with vaulted ceiling) and shower room (loo, basin, shower cubicle). Upstairs, taking full advantage of the beautiful views, there is a large sitting room that opens onto a spacious south-facing covered balcony overlooking a small orchard, a vineyard and the Appennini mountains – a wonderful setting for your al fresco meals! The sitting room itself has an attractive original terracotta floor and a small wood-burning stove and is stylishly furnished. Also on the first floor is a second shower room and two further bedrooms: a comfortable twin room and a double room with doors opening onto a second, east-facing balcony. All three bedrooms have windows with a view of the river Dolo and the mountains.
'Casa Vigneto' is very well placed for a day trip to any of the four main cities in Emilia Romagna, all of which are worth a visit.
  • Fantastic hospitality from Janet and Richard, and a well set up place in the countryside. One of the high points of our trip was a wonderful tour by Richard of the local Parmigiano factory. In addition, they gave us a huge amount of excellent local information. Just a fantastic trip

  • The house was just as described, beautiful location, comfortable and relaxing. Janet is a wonderful host, very welcoming and the house was lovely, well decorated with comfortable amenities and great outdoor space. Be warned, it is nestled high in the mountains so driving does take you through some small hairpin curved roads, so suggest smaller cars versus SUV as transport of choice :) Overall a perfect mini holiday, thanks Janet!

  • Spacious house in a unique location. A good swimming pool that is shared with 2 other houses. Richard is a friendly host with good tips. He even went with us once. We have had a wonderful holiday!

  • Amazing house, amazing garden, beautiful surroundings. Upon arrival we were greater with such amazing details and delicious things! We had an amazing time. Thanks again.

  • The hosts are really very nice and helpfull. Our kids loved to swim in the river (at walking distance) and hiking is excellent, you are on some beautiful tracks when you step out of the door. There's an excellent restaurant in Costabona.

  • As a group of 8, we combined la Stalla and casa vigneto. We loved the environment, the river, the pool and the local restaurants. The houses were perfect: more than enough household appliances, we also had a nice welkome

L'Antico Palazzo is a deceptively large rustic stone house situated in Villa Bonicelli, a picturesque and peaceful hamlet in the beautiful Emilia-Romagnan countryside. It sleeps 12-13 people comfortably, making it ideal for families or groups of friends. It can also be rented in conjunction with one of our other properties in the village. A shraed outdoor swimming pool with stunning mountain views is located behind L'Antico Palazzo and is shared between the properties.
L'Antico Palazzo is a historically interesting building, being part of the original 'casa padronale' (manor house) of the hamlet. It has been furnished partly with antiques and quirky one-off pieces that reflect its history. It really is an original holiday home from which to explore this stunning and little-known area of Italy. The beautiful arched doorway (clearly dated 1824, although the building itself dates back to the late 16th/early 17th century) opens onto a warren of rooms! First is a large and atmospheric drawing room. This opens onto another large sitting room, which is shared between two separate double bedrooms with beautiful views of the valley, and a shower room. There is a second shower room at the foot of the stairs that lead up to the top floor. Here, a large communal 'day room' leads onto an en suite double (with extra single bed), a double and a twin and a shared shower room. The layout is labyrinthine, so please take a look at the floorplan (in the photos) to get a better idea of this huge property! At the bottom of the house is a large kitchen with oven, gas hob, large fridge freezer , microwave and dishwasher; another shower room; and a dining room. The kitchen door opens onto a large terraced area for al fresco dining. Guests have use of a large outdoor table and chairs, sun loungers and a barbecue.
'L'Antico Pallazzo' is very well placed for a day trip to any of the four main cities in Emilia Romagna, all of which are worth a visit.
  • Palazzo l'Antico is an absolutely fantastic place. Lovely and cozy rooms, all amenities in order. The location is absolutely incredible; one simply becomes happy to be such a place. There is a lot to see in the area and Janet and Richard are very helpful with appointments with local sights and restaurants. At the very top.

  • The property is located in the beautiful and hilly countryside about 50 minutes drive from Modena. The house has 3 levels and offers plenty of space for up to 13 people (5 bathrooms, 2 dining rooms, large kitchen, etc.). It is very tastefully decorated, old meets new. The accommodation was very clean and tidy and met our expectations perfectly. The swimming pool was well maintained and clean. When we arrived, we found fresh bread, milk, butter, noodle and a few vegetables for cooking. Everything lovingly arranged! We felt very comfortable from the beginning! If you want peace and quiet, you will find it here! Car required. We will be back!

  • We were welcomed by the husband of Damares who speaks English. He took us around the cottage and explained how to work the hot tub and even recommended a restaurant in the corner. A small bottle of prosecco waiting for us when we arrived, a nice touch from our hosts. There were also enough breakfast the next morning. The cottage is just lovely a little lost in the mountains. We found that the house was very classy, very comfortable bedding, there was even a shower that was the sauna function. The room where the hot tub is full of charm and authentic with stones and wood. The jacuzzi was top, it's really relaxing !!! We had access to mini bar, pretty cool ;-)! There is a small terrace outside the house with garden, nice to take breakfast. In short great experience! We really recommend this place, excellent value for money, you will not be disappointed!
