Welcome to Decorah House, a private and beautifully renovated stay on the second floor of our historic brick house in a quiet neighborhood just five blocks from downtown Decorah. The space is bright and full of natural light and filled with plants. The apartment sleeps three, has a beautiful bathroom with tiled shower, and a lovely front living room and kitchen. Walk to Pulpit Rock Brewing Co, La Rana Bistro, Impact Coffee, Oneota Food Coop, Hotel Winneshiek, Vesterheim and so much more.
We've put five years of hard work into this amazing house and we're excited to share it with you! We're two guys in our 30s and love Decorah. Whether you're here to visit one of the breweries, trout fish, mountain bike, visit your kids at Luther, or just trying to unwind, we think you'll love everything about our community and the house. In addition to welcoming travelers to Decorah House, we've welcomed guests to our other overnight rental Trout River Log Cabin for the past seven years. We know what it takes to be exceptional hosts and we'll do everything we can to ensure you have a great experience. The Decorah House stay occupies the second floor of our renovated greek revival brick house. The space is bright and full of natural light, and sits perched overlooking the Oneota Valley. The unit consists of a large living area with adjoining kitchen, a spacious bath, and large bedroom. The bedroom has a queen bed and there's a queen size blow up mattress to accommodate a third or fourth person. Paul has restored old buildings going on fifteen years. He eats, sleeps and breaths old buildings, architecture and design. We've put so much work into making the space just right, and we think you'll agree. In the main living space you'll find two orange barrel chairs with accompanying hand made shaker style walnut end tables, a sugar maple butcher block dining table made from flooring from a local landmark school, and Persian rugs. The floors are beautiful reclaimed doug fir from a catholic priest house that was recently demolished. All the woodwork, the butcher block countertops and tables, maple cabinets, maple vanity, shaker end tables (basically everything you see) were all made by Paul in the second floor of our garage workshop. During the day Paul's a high school industrial arts teacher and teaches several furniture making, design and construction classes. The kitchen has a high quality European brand stainless steel gas range, small refrigerator, and deep-basin stainless steel sink. The kitchen is stocked with quality cookware. We also supply organic coffee and a french press. The kitchen is pretty small, but adequate for light cooking. The bedroom is spacious and overlooks the forested bluffs of the Oneota Valley. And to boot there's a spectacular 200 year old bur oak tree that sits right outside the bedroom. The bedroom has a firm queen bed, a reading area, and clothes closet. A third or fourth person can be accommodated on a queen size blow up air mattress. Linens and bedding are provided. The spacious bath has a floor to ceiling subway tile shower. The bathroom flooring is Marmoleum, a traditional petroleum free, linseed oil-based linoleum invented in Britain in the early 1850s that's made to look like marble. The hand made vanity is sugar maple with a white oak butcher block top. Bath towels, Nature's Gate shampoo, conditioner and body wash are provided. The house was built in the early 1850s by Decorah's original founding family, the Days from upstate New York. When their son Claiborne built the house a few years later, the village of Decorah wasn't more than a few log houses and a saw mill. Claiborne was the entrepreneurial type, serving as Decorah's first postmaster. He also owned a lumberyard and built several houses around town. Today it survives as one of the few remaining structures of the period. Ever since Paul was a little kid he's had his eye on this house. And when it came available, we jumped at the opportunity to buy and restore it. Of all the buildings representative of Decorah's early settlement period that remain standing, this house is probably the most intact and best preserved. It's an incredible piece of local history.
If you've never visited our little corner of the world you're in for something special. Decorah is undoubtedly the hippest small town in all of the midwest. No, we're not joking. From its nice downtown with a few good restaurants, Luther College, two breweries, abundant parks and trails, a historic hotel and a full-sized food coop, to its placement in the bottom of a bluff-lined valley, Decorah has so much to offer. Most rural midwestern towns are on the decline. Decorah isn't and doesn't feel like that. Sure it's quirky and has its host of problems like any other place, but the difference between those places and here is that we have a big community of people who are working to make this place vibrant and strong. We're two guys in our early 30s and feel totally comfortable living here. Be sure to check out the many parks and hiking and mountain biking trails within walking distance of the house. Lining Decorah's north side is the Van Peenen Park system, an area that has helped catapult Decorah to the forefront of regional mountain biking and outdoor recreation. Or perhaps kayak and canoe the Upper Iowa River with one of the many local outfitters. The house sits in a residential neighborhood a few blocks east of downtown Decorah. The area tends to be quiet and is safe, and we have great neighbors. All the streets in town have sidewalks and cut curbs.
  • Amazing space. Clean, quiet, calming. We loved every minute!

  • This was an amazing and unique property. The restored space is gorgeous---light-filled and beautifully furnished and included everything we needed. The location was great--a very easy 10 minute walk to the center of town (we prefer to walk when we can). Communication was easy and check-in was simple. And we got a great dinner recommendation--La Rana Bistro was delicious! Decorah was a surprisingly vibrant community--with assets that would be typically be found in a much bigger town/city. We will definitely be back for another visit!

  • Very sweet and peaceful place in the heart of Decorah. Everything we needed. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

  • This one bedroom, upstairs, private entry, apartment in a renovated house is sparkling clean, full of natural light, super stylish, and oozing with gorgeous woodwork. Bed was very comfortable. Shower was luxurious. Paul and Nathan were quick to respond and very welcoming. I'd definitely choose this place when/if I visit Decorah again.

  • This is a perfect space for a couple for a weekend getaway! Right when we walked up the stairs, we spent the next 15 minutes admiring all of the details that we first noticed and as we spent more time there, we kept finding other things we loved about the place. It was such a perfect space for a weekend getaway. Relaxing. Beautiful. Very homey feel. Also a great place for single staying as well. A perfect amount of space and you have the amenities you need and are close to everything. Highly recommend.

  • Everything about this place was perfect for us. I’m very particular about cleanliness and it exceeded my expectations. The home is spacious, beds are comfortable, kitchen ample, views outstanding, proximity to trails is perfect...we even were delighted to discover the trail to Phelps Park right out the back door! We so appreciated the use of bikes and helmets too. All communication with our hosts was impressively fast and thorough. We are so grateful to have found this gem and WILL return! Thank you!

  • Check in and out were a breeze! What made this weekend trip and stay at Ashley's place was being able to have our dog along! Also small touches like local beer in the fridge and being extremely close to downtown! We fell in love with the area and definitely plan to visit at least once a year!! Decorah, Iowa is absolutely adorable!

Hygge (pronounced "hoo-ga") is a Danish/Norwegian concept that cannot be translated to one single word but encompasses a feeling of cozy contentment and well-being through enjoying the simple things in life. Hygge Haus is a comfortable and cozy one bedroom house close to downtown (0.3 miles to Water St.). Simple yet meeting your needs. A fully functional kitchen and laundry is available for your use.
Hygge Haus is a shotgun house. A "shotgun house" is a narrow rectangular domestic residence, usually no more than about 12 feet (3.5 m) wide, with rooms arranged one behind the other and doors at each end of the house. It was built in 1860. The house was purchased by our family in May 2016 and renovations began. The ceilings were vaulted in the living room and kitchen and a loft was created. The loft is currently inaccessible to guests due to the logistics of getting up there. The house got a new kitchen with a beautiful quartz countertop and new cabinets (which contractors have now painted wrong TWICE). New flooring had to be put in everywhere but the living room which has the original wood floor that was refinished. The basement is not a guest area but guests can seek shelter there in the event of severe weather. The house got a new roof with designer shingles this past spring. A tree was spaded into the backyard and we have been working on adding plants and flowers around the property. We hope you enjoy the transformation this shotgun house received and find contentment and well-being during your stay here.
Hygge Haus resides in one of the first neighborhoods in Decorah.
  • I don't have anything original to add to other reviews, because they are all correct. The Hygge Haus is a great place to stay while exploring Decorah - conveniently located, comfortable and clean. Recommended!

  • Super cozy and comfortable and very well located. So much better than a hotel room. I highly recommend staying here.

  • Super clean, fun & interesting decor, great location, very comfy!

    Joy2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect amount of space for the two of us! Very well organized and clean. The location was great, walking distance from the downtown area. We will definitely be booking again the next time we head to Decorah!

    Lauren2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice place. Such a small home that is the most personable one bedroom I have stayed in without being an apartment.

    Gene2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Very cozy and well decorated place! Super close to downtown Decorah, so we got to walk to the sugar bowl more than once. Really neat back yard space as well.

    Mike2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Chanda’s home is just the cutest! Check in was a breeze and she was prompt with all communication. We’d definitely stay again!

    Michelle2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • The house was ideal for my wife, infant son, and me! It was a cute and well appointed place that was walkable to everything in downtown Decorah. Chanda went the extra mile and set up a pack and play so we wouldn’t need to bring one on the plane with us from DC. That was so kind of her! Logistically, everything was flawless and easy.

We have restored and repurposed an authentic barn silo, making it a one-of-a-kind stay you'd have a hard time finding anywhere else in the world!
Featured on international travel show, "Tour Guide", our barn silo is restored into a two story, rustic bed and bath making it a unique stay few can say they've experienced!
There is so much to see and do near Silo on the Ridge! We are located just outside of beautiful Decorah, Iowa where you can float the Upper Iowa River, bring your bike and ride the new 11 mile trail, sit and watch the our world famous Eagles Nest, take a shooting lesson from a world class local gunsmith, or visit our award winning local breweries. The Silo is surrounded by some of the best fishing and hunting in the country and there is lots to see and do in the nearby small towns and countryside. Just short drive away is our family restaurant, Dotzy's. Tell them you're staying with us and get a killer made to order Cookie in a Skillet on the house!
  • Awesome quiet get away. We grilled out and it was just homey

  • Unique, cozy and everything in between. Jim has done an excellent job with the silo space and the property is gorgeous. Incredible views both morning and night along with some very friendly horses to feed. The location is perfect and just a short drive to the beautiful little town of Decorah. Thoroughly enjoyable stay and would certainly recommend to those looking for something a little fun and different.

    George2019-09-29T00:00:00Z

Welcome to Luna Valley Farm, an organic farm nestled deep in a driftless valley, 10 minutes north of Decorah. On our working farm we grow organic crops, rotationally graze sheep and cattle on pasture and invite the community out for wood fired pizza on Friday evenings. This is our second year hosting glampers on our farm and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you here! (It is a working farm, but we promise we'll let you relax!)
Pitched on an oak savanna valley side, our platform tents are furnished with rough sawn hardwood floors, a king bed with luxurious linens and places for you to sit and read or write or simply relax. Each tent includes a private patio where you can listen to the birds sing and watch the sheep graze over your morning cup of locally roasted coffee or afternoon glass of locally brewed beer. Our tents are 12x14 and are furnished with a king sized bed, night stands, dresser and bedside lamps. Both ends of the tent can be tied open to allow beautiful summer breezes to pass through. On the back side of the tent you have a 12x13’ private patio with two adirondack chairs and a table where you can watch the birds or read a good book. Tents come equipped with two LED lanterns, fans, cell phone chargers and a large battery pack, which powers the bedside lamps and can be used to charge a laptop or ipad. Cell phone service is spotty down here in our valley, allowing you to truly feel like you’re away. If you need to connect, a wifi network is available to guests for use down by the barn where the bathrooms are located. We provide all bedding including sheets, blankets, bedspreads and a down comforter (in case it’s a chilly evening) and also provide a variety of pillows so you can find one that suits your sleeping preferences. Down the hill from the glamping tents you’ll find a fire pit and a tote containing everything you need to start a fire. Please let us know if you need more wood. To prevent the spread of tree diseases, we ask that you do not carry in your own firewood. The bathhouse is located a 3-4 minute walk from the tents, in our barn and is shared with pizza guests on Friday nights. We provide towels and eco-friendly shampoo, conditioner and soap and a spot for you to store your toiletries so you don’t have to carry them back and forth. There are two bathrooms, one of which contains a big beautiful tiled shower (you’ll love it). If you look close enough you’ll even notice some of the original barn beams that have been incorporated into the design. The canvas wall tents come with a deep history. For years our local Girl Scout Camp (Camp Tahigwa) hosted groups of girls for week-long camps in the summer, some of which were in wall tents in the woods, overlooking the local trout stream. When the camp got sold a few years ago, we purchased a few of the tents with the dream of someday pitching them on our farm to welcome guests for a farm stay! We have a passion for breathing new life into remnants of the past and doing what we can to repurpose things of deep history and profound beauty. A local Amish tarp repair shop helped us fix up the tents and they have found a new life on our farm, where we hope they will be enjoyed for many years to come. When we bought our farm six years ago we fell in love with the burr oak trees on all the valley sides. They had become severely overgrown and one of our goals is to restore them to the oak savanna that they once were. The first place we’ve cleared is the glamping site! It is one of our favorite parts of the farm and we’re excited to share it with you. From the tent you have views of oak trees, pastures, birds and our (hopefully not too weedy) garden. If you walk around our farm you’ll get to see the Canoe Creek, solar panels that power our farm, sheep and cattle grazing, beehives busy at work and the beginnings of a pond project that will help mitigate flooding. Whether you’re here to visit the breweries, trout fish, mountain bike, visit kids at Luther or just get away from it all for awhile, we know you’re going to love Decorah and we’re happy to share information about our favorite local places so you can make the most of your stay.
If this is your first time in the Decorah area, chances are that it will not be your last. It might sound crazy, but Decorah is undoubtedly the hippest small town in the Midwest and has been coined as the “mountain town without mountains” by Midwest Living. We love our little corner of the universe and want to do everything we can to ensure that you do too. In our community we have an abundance of small farmers, homesteaders, small businesses, breweries, parks and trails and a thriving local food cooperative. Locals care deeply about this place and work creatively to help it become even more vibrant and strong at a time when so many small midwestern towns are on the decline. We hope you’ll take time to walk through our downtown and check out some of our beautiful parks while you’re here. Our farm is located just 8 miles north of Decorah and only a few miles from the Minnesota border (as the crow flies). We live in Pleasant Township, which is a unique place in and of itself with a lot of interesting characters tucked into the hills. If you look closely you’ll find market gardeners, heirloom seed enthusiasts, artists, a grass milk dairy (it belongs to Tom’s parents) and a network of people always willing to lend a hand when a hand is needed. We are lucky to live in such a special place.
  • What a wonderful place to spend our anniversary weekend. Even with our nine month old in tow, the tent was perfect accommodations and the bed so so comfy cozy for the chilly nights. We really felt like Maren and Tom went out of their way to make our stay personal and memorable, like letting us tag along to watch the sheep change pasture. The farm was so peaceful and the perfect retreat from the city. And how cool to be there on a record-breaking night for (delicious) pizza! If you’re looking to spend some time in Decorah (or get away from the city), this is a one-of-a-kind place to do so. Remember to pack some work/hiking boots (for walking the farm) and a frisbee (for playing catch with Noche the pup).

  • Great place to go to “getaway” and very clean and calming place. Fast response time definitely helped as well. Would 10/10 recommend to anyone needing a weekend disconnection!

  • Our stay at Luna Valley Farm was better than we imagined! No bugs, beautiful and quite space, comfy and cozy bed, very clean, etc. My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time exploring what Decorah has to offer. Would love to return!

    Gabrielle2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Maren & Tom were terrific hosts and truly made us feel at home. I would highly recommend staying for those who want to “disconnect” from the world and “reconnect” with themselves. Everything was exactly as advertised if not more.

    Alexandria2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • My mom, my 4-year-old son, and I had a great time. The tent was lovely and decorated beautifully. The bed was comfortable. And the hosts were very helpful and kind.

  • I booked both tents for the Summer Solstice weekend. My husband and I stayed in one tent, and our longtime friend stayed in the other. You can find my review on Airbnb site as well, but here is our friend's review: "I'ver never actually gone glamping before and was curious at how I'd enjoy the experience. Maren and Tom might have set the bar too high for any future experience I might ever have. It was truly like staying in a 4 star hotel, while also being woven into nature and the elements - in a safe, protective way away from the bugs. They truly have thought of everything you could need: flashlights, extra batteries, bug repellent, USB phone chargers, natural sunscreen, wine openers, recycling, coolers to keep your snacks and drinks in, and gorgeous fresh flowers to decorate the tent. I didn't get to speak with Tom, but was able to have some great conversations with Maren during our stay. She is such a bright light and her listening skills are unparalleled. Very impressed with their operation and the way they make you feel so special and taken care of. I loved every minute of our stay and can't wait to come back one day!"

    Sydney2019-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Luna Valley Farm was a once in a lifetime experience. The tents are incredibly cozy and a perfect compromise between camping and a hotel. Their pizza nights on Friday are delicious and can provide plenty of recommendations for places to eat, drink, and explore in Decorah. We can't recommend them enough.

Located in the heart of Decorah, you can easily leave your car in your personal parking spot as you stroll through town. Along the way you'll find numerous coffee shops, restaurants, breweries, shops of all genres and tasting rooms. Did we mention you're right across the street from Sugar Bowl (Decorah's hard serve ice cream parlor), and for those who love the outdoors, you're just minutes away from our 11 mile bike loop, Dunning's Spring, Ice Cave and countless other must-see sites!
Although you're within walking distance of 10+ places to eat, if you decide to cook at your home away from home we've provided an oven, microwave, toaster, pots and pans. Any food in the pantry is up for grabs (tea, oatmeal, pasta etc). Many items are available upon request. Need something special? Rather than crowd the apartment, we keep some items off site. If you don't see it listed, just ask if it's available when you make your booking request. (i.e.: boppy pillow, baby bouncy seat, high chair, beach towels etc). You're in an extremely safe neighborhood and building. The police station is 2 blocks away, and a permanent tenant is located next door. Enjoy your private and perfectly located stay!
There isn't a whole lot you won't LOVE in Decorah, but just a few of our nearby favorites include: Ice Cream: Sugar Bowl (Across the Street!) Coffee: Impact Coffee 118 Washington Street (3 blocks) Wed-Sat Dinner or Sunday Brunch: Rubaiyat 117 W Water Street All Day Breakfast: Family Table 817 S Mechanic Street (.6 miles) Grocery Store: Fareway 103 E Main Street (3 blocks) Co-op Grocery and Cafe: 312 W Water Street (1 block)

  • Perfect place downtown. Steps from everywhere, short drive to Luther College. The place has a nice atmosphere and was right in the perfect location for what I needed. Brittany was super responsive even though she was out of the country when I visited, and made me feel welcome! If you’re staying in Decorah, check this place out!

    Peter2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • Brittany’s Place was perfect for a quick trip to Decorah. It was located right in the middle of many restaurants, bars, and attractions. She was very helpful and responded quickly. There were nice little touches like snacks and many amenities.

    Brittany2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Brittany's apartment was exactly as described. The location is excellent for accessing nearly anything in Decorah, particularly the downtown, and served as a comfortable and convenient base while exploring the town. Brittany responded quickly, and was incredibly accommodating. I would happily stay in her place again when visiting Decorah.

    Alex2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • Stellar place! Without question the most comfortable Airbnb bed in the Midwest. Convenient location. And everyone in town seems to know Brittany-n-family. Can’t go wrong here.

    Joseph2020-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • We ended up not being able to stay at Brittany’s place, but her responsiveness and kindness were exceptional.

    Jade2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great time in Dacorah, the location and amenities of this apartment allowed easy access to some great spots as well as being able to cook our own meals.

Acorn Cabin sits perched on a lovely family farm just 3 minutes from downtown Decorah. The Cabin is a restored granary dating back to 1912 and has been crafted with love and attention to detail. Perfect for couples and small families. Enjoy this opportunity to stay on a working Icelandic Sheep farm with quiet, peaceful evenings, and glorious views of the surrounding countryside.
Acorn Cabin is a beautifully restored Granary, originally constructed in 1912. Step inside, and you'll be walking on the original fir wood floors. Professionally refurbished in 2009, Acorn Cabin offers a stay in the country with the feeling of history and the comfort of restoration. The Cabin features a lovely 2nd floor bedroom with vaulted ceilings, a cozy sitting area, full kitchen and bathroom with shower. Relax on the Amish built front porch with a view of the pastures. There is also a fully furnished YOGA STUDIO and workout area in a refurbished Milk House - just across the yard - that is available for your use. PRIVATE GOLF DRIVING RANGE - available right here on the property - 300 yards in length, with one free bucket of balls. Bring your golf clubs!!!
Acorn Cabin is one of the last farms on the edge of the south side of town. The setting is peaceful and gorgeous, with lovely out buildings, a stately farmhouse, and beautiful oak trees. You can expect privacy and quiet at Acorn Cabin, with only the workings of the farm and the sheep to keep you company. We live in the restored farmhouse, and after raising our three children here now enjoy the peacefulness of the farm. We are just a short walk away - far enough to give you plenty of privacy, but close enough for easy conversation and assistance with anything you might need.
  • Acorn Cabin is a special place. I went with my adult daughter and relaxed a lot. Also enjoyed Decorah IA, a quaint town with many amenities. Our high light was getting to feed the sheep with Mike and his grandson. The cabin is comfortable and well decorated. We plan to go again!

  • Perfect location. Perfect cabin. Perfect weekend trip.

  • Best place if you want to get away from the day to day hustle and just enjoy nature. Close to the bike path and amenities of beautiful Decorah.

    Amanda2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • I can’t say enough about Acorn cabin and our wonderful hosts. The cabin is so darling. Everything you could ever need is there. It is so comfortable, clean and tastefully decorated. The location is very close to town but you definitely feel like you are in the country. My granddaughter had a wonderful time with the sheep and Fluffy, the cat. Thank you for everything, Kim! It was delightful and we hope to return.

    Pam2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Acorn Cabin is a wonderful place to stay. The cabin is perfectly located. My husband and I bliked on the Trout River trail which is just a block from the cabin. Mike and Kim are great hosts!

    Paula2019-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed a peaceful weekend at Acorn Cabin. The cabin is clean, comfortable, and well outfitted with all the basics we needed and special touches like welcome snacks, fleece bathrobes, throws, and rugs that made for a cozy time on a cold weekend. It was also fun to watch the sheep from the front porch!

    Linda2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our stay at the Acorn cabin. The location was perfect, quiet and restful but so close to town and the bike path. The thoughtful touches like candies at the bedside, fresh flowers everywhere and blankets on the porch for chilly evenings were sweet and everything was super clean. We enjoyed watching the sheep and the sunset. Kim was very responsive and knowledgeable to any questions we asked about the area and activities.

Welcome to Trout River Log Cabin, a rustic 19th century Norwegian-built log house nestled in the rolling hills of Northeast Iowa, just seven miles from downtown Decorah, or three from TG Brewing. The cabin is open seasonally from April to October. Our family farm with its many acres of perennial grass fields, timber, and meandering Trout River is absolutely gorgeous. And while you're at it be sure to check out our other overnight stay, Decorah House, located five blocks from downtown Decorah.
The cabin is really special. The walls are rich and textured and the colors are deep and vibrant. Pretty much everything you see, from the beadboard ceilings to the wood floors, were reclaimed from 19th century Norwegian-American log buildings. The cabin is really small and compact and measures just 17'x18'. But it has a functional kitchen, a really nice tiled shower, a mini split heat pump for AC and heating, and a gorgeous view of the Trout River valley. The cabin was built originally in the 1850s as a Norwegian-Lutheran parochial school. Built of old growth oak, walnut, and elm trees, the house feels rich and textured, the product of a different era. In 1898 it was disassembled, moved across a field, and rebuilt as a house by Norwegian immigrant Peter Losen. It remained lived in until the late 1970s and fell into disrepair. In 2007 we disassembled the house, moved it to its present site, and spent three years lovingly restoring it. We warmly welcome you. The cabin comfortably sleeps two. Upstairs is a comfy yet firm queen size bed. Linens and blankets are provided. There is a pullout twin sized bed that can accommodate a third person. The pullout bed is in the same space as the queen bed. Please note the steps to the upstairs are curvy and steep. Take care! On the main level you'll find a small yet totally functional kitchen stocked with all the kitchen supplies you'll need. We also supply fair trade and organic Kickapoo coffee and teas. Also on the main level you'll find comfy arm chairs, a kitchen table, a bookshelf of interesting books, board games, photo albums of the log cabin restoration and information of the surrounding area. The bathroom is on the main floor and the shower is upstairs in the bedroom. Both the bathroom and shower are stocked with organic soaps, shampoo and conditioner. Towels and wash cloths are provided.
Our farm sits seven miles from downtown Decorah. It's a twelve minute drive into town. And we're only three miles from Toppling Goliath. You can bike the gravels there in less than 15 minutes! Our farm sits on the end of a 1/2 mile gravel driveway on the edge of a bluff overlooking Trout River valley. There's a secondary highway about two miles away on the bottom of the valley floor. But other than that it's super private and quiet. The cabin sits about 50 yards from the big house, but is separated by a big windbreak of hundred year old Norwegian spruce.
  • It was perfect for a weekend getaway. Very relaxing and peaceful. We had deer wondering by each morning.

    Curtis2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was great! Beautiful location! Hike down to the Trout River it is worth it!

  • Another amazing stay at Trout River Log Cabin. Paul is an exceptional and talented individual with a big heart and amazing hospitality. The cabin is so wonderful and relaxing, and any questions you might have Paul answers straight away. The craftmanship and care that have been put into this cabin are so clear in every detail. Heaven!

  • Serene, simple and cozy abode. Perfect place to unwind and relax. Plenty to see and do nearby from hiking to fishing to shopping and more. Really enjoyed getting to know the history of the area at the Vesterheim museum and tour in Decorah. Saw not only the Belted Galloway cows but lots of deer, two bald eagles, heard a barred owl. It was hard to leave. Look forward to visiting the Driftless area again!

    Kim2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at the cabin was perfect! We loved the exterior and interior! Very cozy! It was the perfect location between the downtown and Toppling and Goliath. We loved the gorgeous farm land and surrounding areas. We would definitely recommend this adorable cabin!

    Lauren2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is beautiful & peaceful. We really enjoyed our relaxing evenings on the porch.

    Travis2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was gorgeous and we enjoyed our stay. Walking to the river to fly fish was great and there are a lot of trout! It is about a 15 minute walk and the walk back is all up hill, good exercise and through the woods which provides nice shade during this hike. I am extremely picky about the cleanliness of places where I stay and this one was perfectly clean. Our stay was very private and the proximity to town is great, yet you still feel like you’re far away from anywhere. We will be returning again.

    Drew2019-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • This restored cabin overlooks a beautiful pasture and woodland with great views. Nice hike to Trout River and some great fishing spots. Beautifully appointed and cozy cabin. Exceptionally clean. Quiet and peaceful.

With a great trout stream, small pond with trout, horses and two lovable excited dogs. A perfect place to unwind away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Perfect for fishermen, hunters and those who just want to get away. I highly suggest staying here and will anytime I am in the Decorah area.

Enjoy the charm of Decorah and the beauty of the outdoors at Rustic Acres.
This ground-floor suite sleeps four. With a living room with woodburning stove and streaming TV, telescope for stargazing, space for game night, pool table, private deck and fire pit - this space makes a great getaway for couples, small families, or friends looking to get together!
We are about a ten minute drive to downtown Decorah, which is a great area to grab a drink or a bite to eat. There are also several places to enjoy nature - see our guidebook for some of our favorite recommendations.
  • I would highly recommend staying here! It is a beautiful place and was very clean. The property manager greeted us with a warm welcome, a hand-written card and a gift card to a local restaurant. How cool! He also had a fire pre-built and ready to go for us in the fireplace inside upon arrival. This is a fantastic place to stay, in a great location, and has wonderful hosts. Highly recommend.

    Kyle2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • This place was such a great value. Spacious living area and bathroom. The view was private and relaxed. A night by the fireplace was very enjoyable.

    Zach2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • This place was perfect for what we needed! We came to the area to visit drink beer and get away, and this place did not disappoint! We were able to get a taxi to and from the breweries, which cost about $15 per trip. We typically used Hometown Taxi in the afternoon, then Midnight Taxi at night (It runs until 3am). There are many things about Decorah that we love, but we were not expecting to love the accommodations nearly as much! We only stayed in the lower level, but the property was fantastic. Right out the back window we could see a waterfall within 50ft. A juvenile deer stopped by Saturday and Sunday for a drink. We also saw wild turkeys, and took advantage of the wood-burning stove for heat! This was the perfect getaway!

    Greg2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is the most beautiful place to stay! Jon had a fire ready welcoming us as we arrived in 10 degree weather! The lower level is huge and perfect for the four of us gathered for a girls retreat. It snowed 8 inches overnight and we had a beautiful winter wonderland to go explore in the morning! We did not want to leave! I highly recommend and we will be back!

    Deb2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay at a decent price. When we arrived, there was a bottle of wine waiting for us as well as the fireplace was already going. The morning we left, a tom turkey was right outside the window near the small waterfall. Would definitely book again, especially summer.

    Janis2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay! Beautiful location! We loved turning on the wood burner during the cold winter months.

    Kara2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful rustic setting complete with a waterfall and brook. It would be fun to explore the area in warmer weather.

    Rachel2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • The place was just as described. Very clean and had all the amenities listed. The addition of a wood stove made the place cozy and a pool table was tons of fun. The yard is beautiful with plenty of wildlife ass well as the streams and waterfall. Overall a great getaway that will allow you to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

Private cabin located next to our home. 480 sq ft downstairs with 90 sq ft loft. West Union is the gateway to the rolling hills and scenic bluffs of Northeast Iowa. Two parks nearby (Dutton's Cave, Echo Valley) for hiking. The majestic bluffs of Pike's Peak and Effigy Mounds are 40 minutes east. Decorah, with its 14 mi bike trail and beautiful Falls are 30 minutes north. The cabin is quaint and cozy, perfect for a couple's getaway. It has the Cabin feel within the city's limits .
The stairs to the loft are steep and the ceiling height in the loft is 5'4". We recommend that if you are a tall person or weigh above 200 lbs, you may want to sleep on the Queen size couch sofa sleeper.
West Union has a beautiful town square with a great coffee shop. The town has one of the nicest city parks you'll find. Dutton's Cave and Echo Valley Park are minutes away that offer great hiking and amazing photo ops.

  • Our only regret is that we only booked it for one night and that we had to leave so soon! It felt like home. It was the best Valentine's day that we have had in our 20 years together. Echo Valley State park and Volga lake are beautiful places to hike!

Enjoy the privacy of this 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom home where everything is on one level. The house is conveniently located within walking distance to downtown. We offer wifi and a large flatscreen TV with Hulu. The home has a fully functional kitchen and washer/dryer. Thanks!
The Decorah Guesthouse was built in 1890. It was purchased by our family in July 2015. We have been working on giving the house a make over ever since. Somewhere along the line the ceiling in the living area had been lowered so the family did some demo and raised those ceilings back up to their original height. We also took out the old chimney and put a electric fireplace in. We had the entire electrical system updated. The house got a new roof and was properly insulated. The original wood floors were refinished. A second bathroom was added to the laundry room. The house will eventually get a new kitchen and siding.
The house is in one of the original sections of Decorah. It is a nice and quiet neighborhood.

    Quin2019-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • Jennifer's place truly is a charming studio apartment! It was very clean with soft towels and bedding. She is such a thoughtful host - there were snacks waiting for us, plus the weather turned very cold that day, and she had extra blankets and the heat ready for us. She was very responsive, and went out of her way to find out more about the Brush Creek Canyon preserve we planned to visit on our stay. Getting to see and feed Laverne and Shirley was a bonus. We - including our dog-child - felt very comfortable and welcomed - and we want to come back to stay!

    Renee2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely place to stay on a quiet street. The house is old style and charming with interesting furniture to compliment the style. The bed was super comfortable and the area was super clean. The hosts live across the street so if you needed something, they were right there; while you still had the place to yourself. Will stay here again since I have family in town.

    Tamra2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • This is a nice country apartment with a great bed and amenities. Snacks and drinks were provided but limited pots and pans made cooking difficult in the ample kitchen area.

    Stephen2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Jennifer’s communication was awesome throughout our entire trip from beginning to end. Her goats are the cutest ever and such a treat. She and her entire family set up in their barn/recreation area for us to watch the Georgia Bulldogs play football because we are huge Georgia fans. We were there for family weekend in Decorah Iowa at Luther College; I was a little worried about the distance but the short drive was well worth it! We will definitely be back many more times as our son is only in his second year at Luther! We really appreciate everything they did for us. We ended up being later than we anticipated on Friday night and they turned on the air condition for us ahead of time and had everything at the perfect temperature for us to come in and go right to sleep. Great stay!!

    Karen2019-09-22T00:00:00Z

  • Cute and stylish home in excellent location, just a couple blocks from downtown Decorah! The whole house was extremely clean and stylish, and the kitchen was well stocked with dishes and cookware. Beds were very comfortable! Bathroom was a little tight but worked fine for me; if you are extra tall / large, or have mobility issues, that might be a consideration. I loved that the property was pet-friendly so my furry travel companion could accompany me on my trip! Beautiful home! Highly recommend!

  • Great place in the perfect location 2 blocks from Downtown. Comfy bed, super clean, cute apt. I hope to return! Kelsey was a great communicator too.

  • Kelsey’s place has a stylish look. Everything is clean- towels, kitchen supplies, bedrooms. So relaxing to know the house is well taken care of.

  • Super cute and cozy house in the perfect Decorah location. We were able to walk to all of the downtown attractions. We felt safe and secure and had off street parking. Perfect space for a couple or 2 couples.

    Sarah2019-11-28T00:00:00Z
  • Comfy & clean. Would stay again.

    Terra2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at Kelsey’s place! We felt right at home. Everything was very clean and tidy, and I loved the decor. It was great for my husband, dog, and I, but it would be perfect for another couple too, as it has two bedrooms. It’s a quick walk to the downtown area where there are plenty of boutiques, restaurants, and coffee shops. You’re also a short drive away from breweries. We would definitely come back and stay again!

Enjoy the restoration of our charming and cozy caboose! Complete with all the amenities you'll need and more! Including dishes for cooking, barware for cocktailing, and even the original conductor's chairs to watch the sunset over the horse pasture!
We've kept the original conductor's chairs and overhead handrails in our complete restoration...but have gussied up the rest for your comfort quite a bit!
There is so much to see and do near Silo on the Ridge! We are located just outside of beautiful Decorah, Iowa where you can float the Upper Iowa River, bring your bike and ride the 11 mile trail, sit and watch the our world famous Eagles Nest, take a shooting lesson from a world class local gunsmith, or visit our award winning local breweries. The caboose is surrounded by some of the best fishing and hunting in the country and there is lots to see and do in the nearby small towns and countryside. Just short drive away is our family restaurant, Dotzy's. Tell them you're staying with us and get a killer made to order Cookie in a Skillet on the house!
  • This place is a gem! We arrived with horses eating hay, a barrel smoking fire and quiet beautiful rolling farm hills. WE SLEPT IN A CABOOSE! The tiny details such as the horseshoe hooks are delightful but honestly... Nothing beats the old school tape and record player. Thanks Jim!

    Linda2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • This was a nice, private, and quiet spot. Check in was easy and we had everything we needed for our stay. I recommend the caboose!

    Shannon2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • The caboose was an amazing stay. Very unique and quiet. Although the host lives on site, we felt our privacy was very well respected. I highly recommend Jim as a host for someone looking for some quiet down time in a unique location

  • Fantastic and very unique place to stay. The caboose was absolutely perfect. Great location and host.

  • What a treasure! Very much enjoyed our stay

    Goldie2019-11-15T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I honeymooned in the caboose. It was such a neat space, with a really good heater (it dried out the air a lot, but we were there in November so it was expected). It was a wonderful stay, meeting barn kittens and the horses, and it was so close to town which had so many awesome places to go. We’ll definitely be visiting again.

    Adrien2019-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • This was a fun stay and our family was able to stay comfortably, making sure to balance outside time and some planned out games and activities even in the close quarters of a caboose. The kids were thrilled to see the horses and cats, along with all the fun touches inside. It was too cold for us to enjoy the deck or grill, though we planned ahead with our meals, but be sure to bring food that can be made in the microwave or the small hot plate. This was a perfect, cozy overnight and very memorable. We will visit again!

Located just three blocks from downtown, this cozy 2 bedroom apartment is perfect for a family or friend weekend getaway. This bright and peaceful space is a perfect place to relax and unwind after a long day of exploring, hiking, shopping and checking out the breweries located in Decorah. Please be sure to check the amenity list before booking to be sure my apartment is the right fit for you! :)
This apartment is in a very central location in Decorah! It is cute, clean, and comfortable.
Very close to Pultpit Rock Brewing. Walking distance to Main Street and all the shops and restaurants. Walking distance to Refuel a working out center.
  • Clean and quiet. This is a bit different than some places, it is someone’s home, so not much room for your own food in the fridge if you had any- that kind of thing. But if you just need a place to crash for the night, it’s a good deal.

    Eileen2020-02-29T00:00:00Z

  • Everything was very clean! It is a little older building with a long stairway to climb ( I have bad knees but railings on both sides of the stairway were helpful). It was just as listed and shown in the photos. The beds were comfortable and it was spacious for three. The building was very quiet.

She even thought to leave a teddy bear on the bed for my daughter which was so very thoughtful. We had a fun time playing with the boardgame selection and the Marilyn Magnets too. Sharon and her pets were kind and welcoming. We give Sharon two big and two little thumbs up!!!

  • We had a great weekend in Decorah! The Spring View Suite at Rustic Acres was wonderful! The home is beautiful inside and out. We enjoyed the relaxing in the great room with a cozy fire and exploring outside in the snow. Saturday morning we enjoyed watching the deer and turkey from the warmth of the home, then going out snowshoeing and exploring. We appreciated Jon sharing the history of the home and the way the family has been able to share the home through Airbnb. We hope to visit again in the spring, summer or fall to enjoy the beauty of Rustic Acres in another season!

    Marilyn2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We were delighted to have chosen Rustic Acres for a weekend away with our little family - the home is comfortable and relaxing, clean and spacious, well-equipped and incredibly cozy for a winter weekend. Jon had the fire blazing when we arrived, and the view from the window of the spring/waterfall is mesmerizing. The location is perfect for trout anglers, and an easy drive into Decorah to all the lovely shops and restaurants. We had the pleasure of snow overnight and watched the fluffy flakes fall all morning, creating such a peaceful experience. Thank you to Jami and Jon for their gracious hospitality and thoughtful interactions. We are already planning a trip to stay again!

    Christina2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • The house is set amongst the trees, back against a hillside in a really pretty valley just 10 minutes north of Decorah. Lots of windows and decks to take in the views. we saw turkeys every day, and heard coyotes in the evenings as we strolled around the property and grilled on the deck.. Jon, the host, is really easy going and full of interesting facts about the area. The spring on the hillside is really relaxing to watch and listen to. we were surprised it was running in early Feb. but Jon informed us it's always 55 degrees. Such a cool place. Jami & Chris provided everything to make our stay at Rustic Acres very comfortable and relaxing.

    Heather & Kevin2020-02-06T00:00:00Z

  • If you are looking for a private retreat to renew the body and soul - this is it! Complete with a cozy fireplace roaring when you step in the door (thanks to Jon), to the rushing water coming down the limestone cliff - this is a retreat of the senses! I am very honest when I say, I didn't want to leave - I wanted to move in and stay! Jami and Chris, along with Jon, added simple touches that made this cabin feel like home. We will be back in the near future!

There is a w/d and full size kitchen (brand new). Easy parking in the front of the house & a private driveway. Flexible check-in/out depending on previous/next guest.
My husband and I bought this 1890's house as our 2nd home. Along with help from our dearest family and friends, we have put a lot of love into re-building and refinishing it for our guests to enjoy as much as we will in the years to come.
As you can see on the map, we are close to everything. Just a short walk to all the great restaurants and bars downtown and a quick (traffic-free) 1/4 mile to the scenic 11 mile Trout Run Trail where you can see the infamous eagles and enjoy the country-side of Decorah. Walk to the Palisades trail for good x-country skiing or take a walk in the tree covered trails! Head over to Ice Cave Rd. to see the Cave, Dunning Springs, and grab a local brew at Pupit Rock Brewery. Note: Toppling Goliath Brewery has a new location not too far from the house. So many fun things to do! If you need any suggestions or help during your stay, please feel free to contact me.
  • Beautiful home filled with extra amenities: lotion in every room, earth friendly cleaning products, ground coffee, spices, kids toys, kid plates and cutlery etc. Every room is meticulously decorated in a fresh clean style. If we are back in Decorah we will definitely book the little grey house again!

  • This is the second time we stayed at Tara's Airbnb. We absolutely love the house! It's in a convenient location in the Decorah area and close to Luther. There are many, many nice touches and the house is well appointed overall. Comfortable beds, high quality furnishings/throw blankets/etc, cute coffee station with pottery mugs, well stocked bathroom and kitchen, local tips and more! Tara is also very responsive and helpful. Highly recommend.

    Paul2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Tara’s place was perfect! The location was a good walking distance to downtown Decorah. She had many tips on things to do around town too. The house was so charming and decorated beautifully. 6 adults stayed comfortably in the house for two nights and the beds were very comfortable. Would definitely stay there again for a trip to Decorah!

    Allan2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Tara’s home DELIVERS. The space was clean, bright, and elegantly decorated, with the occasional antique touch. The decor set the tone perfectly for our girls trip - we instantly felt relaxed and pampered. There were also many homey touches around, including coffee on hand, lavender hand lotion in several bedrooms and the bathroom, and plenty of fluffy pillows and blankets. The beds were comfortable and the entire house was very clean. There is also a delightful reading nook surrounded by lovely curtained windows that I found myself drawn to sit in every chance I got. There are many windows throughout the living room and we enjoyed the natural sunlight that flooded in. The kitchen is well thought out and was stocked with all of the utensils we needed for our meals during our stay, except for the absence of a cheese grater, which was missed right away by the Wisconsinites in my party. 😆 There is no dining room or kitchen table, however the spacious center island and accompanying stools made for accessible cooking space and enough counter seating for the four of us to eat at. Tara is a terrific host. She was responsive to all of our questions (big or small) and went the extra mile to call the city to get final confirmation regarding a question we had about parking. She was wonderful to work with and her home was a true joy to stay in. If you’re looking for the perfect place to stay in Decorah, look no further - you’ve found it!

  • We loved the space! It was perfect for a winter weekend away with our kiddos. The kids toys and books in the home were so handy, they loved playing with different toys! There is even a small pack n play and a baby gate available to make the house more kid friendly.

    Becca2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean, super cozy, adorable window window seat. Convenient distance to downtown -- we parked our car and walked everywhere even during December. Kitchen is great for preparing your own meals.

  • This place is adorable and perfect! We came for a family Christmas and made a few meals here too! Very stocked in the kitchen and clean!! Awesome place and great for a 2 year old too. The sit in window was perfect! Would definitely come back!

Set in a quiet neighborhood next to a park, this charming old brick house features lots of space. Its only a short one block walk to the downtown restaurants, unique shops, bars and two blocks away from the biking and walking trail.
This charming house has been very well maintained with the hardwood floors in the house, to the original woodwork, exposed brick wall in family room. The only full bathroom is on the second floor, there is a half bathroom that is located under the stairs on the main level.
Located next to a quiet little park and just one block from downtown Decorah, biking or walking trails within blocks.
  • Big, clean and comfortable space 1 block from downtown and close to trails.

  • My son and I stayed at Laura's place for a couple of days while he participated at an event at Luther College. The house was very close to downtown and just a few minutes from campus. The whole place was very clean, with spacious rooms, comfy beds, and plenty of dishes and cookware. We appreciated that the property was pet-friendly! There is only full bathroom in the house, and that is up a steep flight of stairs; it wasn't an issue for us, but could be for someone with more limited mobility or difficulty navigating steps. The main floor had a tiny half bath connected to the main floor bedroom that could be an issue for tall or larger people, but it served us just fine. Check in was easy-peasy with a keypad lock. We had a great stay, and highly recommend Laura's place!

    Suzanne2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • This house really fit the bill for both accommodation and location. Will definitely be looking for your place during future visits to Decorah!

The Little Red Schoolhouse is located in a remote and serene area of Allamakee County. It is steps away from one of Iowa’s natural trout streams Patterson Creek, the recreational playground of the Upper Iowa River, and over 1,000 acres of wild prairie and woodlands managed by the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation. The Little Red Schoolhouse is surrounded by natural beauty and can provide a quiet refuge free from all distractions. We are excited for your stay!
  • Loved this place on a fall excursion to NE Iowa!

    Cm2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Loved this property! We were wanting to get away for the weekend and disconnect from the world, and this place was exactly what we were looking for. We went on a short walk from the schoolhouse and caught some native Iowa Trout, then went on a hike to the Ice Caves and the Dunning Springs Waterfall in Decorah! Judy was very responsive and helpful. Would definitely recommend this place if you are looking to experience nature firsthand!

    Mariah2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice place highly recommended

    Zuhdija2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • This place is fabulous. It is a great place for a family or group of friends to come and relax in a gorgeous Iowa valley. The school house is spacious and comfortable.

    Forest2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • An undiscovered gem of a place and highly recommended if you’re seeking to unwind and enjoy nature without packing all the camping equipment. We came during Decorah’s Nordic Fest then enjoyed campfire, fireflies, and steaks on the grill. Judy and Marlin are super and will make sure your stay is comfortable right down to homemade bread, jam, and wildflowers on the table.

    Jennifer2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Marlin and Judy provided a clean, comfortable retreat that had both the spaciousness of high ceilings and the coziness of pleasing decor and in a beautiful area to explore. We felt fortunate to have the opportunity to experience this historic building and to have the privacy of the beautiful surroundings.

    Susan2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • If you’re looking for a location to unplug, take in amazing scenery and to relax, this is the place. My husband and I have a special interest in booking Airbnb’s that are ‘off-the-beaten-path’ and in the middle of nowhere. This one nailed it! The fire flies lit up the valley at night. It was am amazing sight. Star gazing was also a great past time. Some tips: If you’re booking In the Summer during high heat/humidity and don’t like the sound of a loud generator to keep fans on, I would suggest to bring a tent as a back-up. We couldn’t cool down in the house. For us, it was cooler outside at night (even when the windows were open or closed). We wished we would of packed ours! We also brought our own solar shower and pop-up tent for more privacy when showering. Our hosts were great at communicating with us about checking in and answered any questions we had during our stay. Thank you Marlin & Judy!

    Stephanie2019-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures and description don’t do this place justice! We spent a weekend there with our family of 5 plus dog. Very fun space. Beds were comfy. Everything was clean. They have every little thing you could need there. The place is well stocked. The campfire area was great with more than enough firewood. The hosts evening put a little kindling teepee to get the fire started. And there were plenty of fire starters inside. We did not use the generator. The candles there were wonderful. If you love candles, I would suggest bringing some extra. The well was fun to pump. We used the grill quite a bit. The bathroom is a port-a-potty behind the garage. It was clean. We didn’t catch any fish, but enjoyed the beautiful scenery. We went to Luna Valley for the Friday pizza. It was fun and good. The house is secluded, with a very occasional car going by on the gravel road. You can hear the cows mooing in the early morning from bed. (It actually scared my husband at first because he woke up at 6am to someone saying “heellloo” outside. Turns out, it was just a cow :) Our dog was in heaven, running around outside like he owned the place. Best way to wash up was with big pots of warmed water and then splashing off behind the garage. They have a little “shower” area set up there. No one driving or walking by could see you bathing there, but anyone staying at the house could. So, if you needed to, I would suggest a swimsuit. The inside stove wasn’t working for our stay, it would have been fun to use, but it wasn’t necessary. We did not attempt canoeing. If you do, know that the boat is quite big! We had a lot of fun here. Waukon was a sweet little town, with a Fareway and Dollar Store. Decorah is a charming town, with lots to offer. Great Air BNB.

This mid century renovation was completed in August 2018. After hosting an Airbnb for 3 years, this project brought a fantastic location and the ability to create three units. The new kitchenette includes a single induction cooktop with an under counter refrigerator. A stacker washer/dryer and a tiled bathroom. The queen bed is separated by a 10’ ft. privacy curtain. The south windows fill it with light. Vossheim on Court is a 3 bedroom two story unit above Vossheim Studio.
Vossheim Studio is just off the Historic District and two blocks to the Main Street of shops and restaurants. Nordic Fest events happen on the Courthouse square just steps from our door on Court Street. Vesterheim Museum and Porter House Museum are both walking distances. Five coffee shops compete for your morning java.
306 Court is just below the UCC church on Historic West Broadway and the backside neighbor is Decorah Lutheran. A wooded lot across the street is owned by the city. A large law firm is next to the UCC. The Methodist Church is across from the law firm. The bells of St. Benedict ring at noon. At the bottom of our little traveled street is the middle school. The Nordic Fest Rock Throw is held on that field.
  • I love this space! Great ambiance, location and great value for the price. It was comfy and homey. I really hope to stay again on my next visit ♥️

Relax and refresh at Rustic Acres Homestead & Springs. Rustic Acres was family built and is family run. While the lower and upper levels can be rented independently, rent the entire house for a family getaway or dedicated time to catch up with friends!
Decorah is a scenic small town in northeast Iowa. Whether you are here for Nordic Fest, to catch a glimpse of the Decorah eagles, try your hand at some trout fishing, or just unplugging and getting away, there is something for everyone!
  • This house was such an excellent choice. The home is very spacious and comfortable and Jamie and a Chris have done a great job updating it to keep it modern and beautiful. We slept amazing in the beds and woke up to some beautiful scenery even in the dead of winter! Being semi close to town was great too since you get the best of being out in the country while having the ability to go a grocery store or brewery which we definitely took advantage of. Having John there if we needed anything too made us all feel comfortable and we had an amazing weekend. Highly recommend and will hopefully be back next year!
