Breathtaking 2 Bedroom Luxury Cornish Cottage with Panoramic Sea & Harbour Views with Hot Tub - Featured on Channel 4's George Clarke's Amazing Spaces Situated on a beautiful bay in South Cornwall where seals & dolphins are regularly spotted & local fisherman bring in their daily catch. Less than 5 minutes walk to the local restaurants, bars, pubs, ice-cream shops & ancient Grade 2 listed Port showcasing exquisite tall ships and famous for the film set of Poldark & Alice In Wonderland
The beautiful village port of Charlestown has played host to many famous figures in its time, from Poldark to Alice in Wonderland...and most recently George Clarke, who featured Harbour Lights, formerly known as the ‘Loo with a View', on his hugely popular ‘Amazing Spaces' TV programme. It's not hard to see why George was so captivated by the intricate work lovingly carried out on this imaginative and elegantly restored property.  Built in 1771 as a fish and net cellar, the building was later renovated into public conveniences before we rescued it from its ramshackle state in 2015.  The building has now been fully renovated into a truly luxurious pet-friendly two-bedroomed holiday hideaway, full of natural character and marine-inspired style, featuring truly unsurpassed sea views from the cliff top.  Great care and attention has been taken with the design and furnishing of every room to ensure perfect harmony with the beautiful coastal surroundings.  Ancient reclaimed timber décor and solid oak doors add chic touches of time-honoured style, alongside the more contemporary pure white Italian marble worktops and soft grey backgrounds that perfectly complement the magnificent bay and harbour views from the windows. The ground floor encompasses a spacious open-plan living area, described by George Clarke as fabulously "light and airy", featuring a fully furnished designer kitchen that looks out across the harbour.  Fire up the stylish log burner and watch the ships as they glide languidly by! Take the stairs and discover two exquisite bedrooms, one large double featuring glorious views over the harbour and Charlestown Bay - with a luxurious Heritage bath right at the bottom of the bed.  The second, slightly smaller, bedroom features a beautiful view of the garden area. You'll also find a stunning Italian marble and stainless steel furnished en-suite, and a utility area and walk-in wardrobe featuring fitted storage, washer-dryer, iron and ironing board, and hair dryer. Underfloor heating and a Sonos sound system with three independent zones runs throughout, so that wherever you happen to be, you'll be effortlessly able to set the perfect mood! Simply download the Sonos App on your smart phone and away you go! The views become even better outside, when experienced with a glass of bubbles from the lavish four-seater hot tub looking out across the sea!  There's a slate patio with wash off area that's particularly handy after a sandy day on the beach, and a beautiful garden with decked terraces and colourfully lush flowers and plants that have been carefully selected to make the most of their surroundings. Discover Harbour Lights' namesake at the end of the garden...a quaint little lookout shed which in times past was home to the searchlight that guided the Tall Ships safely into harbour.  Here you'll find two benches carved from the old roof timbers, creating the perfect romantic hideaway. Oh - and just in case you're wondering whether any remnants of the building's former history remain, hanging proudly above the downstairs bathroom are the original ‘ladies' and ‘gentlemen' signs… We just couldn't bring themselves to flush those away! You'll find it extremely difficult to tear yourself away from this sea sanctuary, but if you decide to venture out and about, why not take your dog to Charlestown beach for a run, perhaps with some seal and dolphin-spotting along the way?  Watch the fishermen bring in their daily catch before taking yourselves off to indulge in a gourmet seafood meal at the award-winning Falmouth Bay Seafood Café in Truro, another of our stylish dog-friendly retreats. The ancient Grade 2 listed port is steeped in historical architecture...along with a glittering touch of celebrity from its regular use as a film set. So set sail to Harbour Lights and enjoy an invigorating and relaxing break with genuinely breathtaking sea views you won't forget in a hurry!
The beautiful village port of Charlestown has played host to many famous figures in its time, from Poldark to Alice in Wonderland. Go off in any direction along the coast and you’ll find a range of wonderful cafes and restaurants.
  • Harbour Lights will knock your socks off if you are after a relaxing break with great views and facilities

  • This is a special place, in particular for a 'couples getaway'. We went as a family (two teenage girls) and though a squeeze in the spare room for the girls we all found it a great place to spend a week exploring the local walks, beaches and food. Notwithstanding our stay included a visit from 'Storm Dennis' it was a fantastic week and we enjoyed watching the weather coming into the bay.

  • Really lovely place in a great location with lovely restaurants within a 5 minute walk. Charlotte was a great host who was available to help with anything required. Would definitely recommend and stay again. Thanks! X

  • This really is a ‘gem’ — absolutely stunning property with luxury finish, in a truly superb location! Walking distance to local beaches, restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and everything you will need. We never used our car at all during our stay, and wakening up to the sea views every morning...just ‘wow’!!

  • Well where do I start!! The property it’s self is nothing short of amazing. Charlotte kindly accommodated an early check in which was much appreciated. My dogs thoroughly enjoyed their stay with lovely complimentary doggie bags. The views from the hot tub are to die for and there was nothing better than relaxing in the bath looking out at the ocean at the end of the day. The scones and the bubbly definitely made it that little bit more special if that’s even possible! Charlestown is beautiful and the recommendations from the welcome pack where much appreciated. Longstore was a special place for a very nice steak. Thank you for a wonderful stay and we hope to be able to stay again soon.

  • Charlotte and Joey’s place is a gem! A wonderful location with spectacular views and easy access to quaint Charlestown. Charlotte went above and beyond by getting us a travel crib for our 20 month old. I will miss the relaxing nights of hearing the ocean from the master bedroom and relaxing in the hot tub. Charlotte even had scones, Cornish cream, milk and bubbly awaiting ya upon our arrival! A class act. Not to mention the place was spotless and had everything you needed and more. The closest Tesco is about a mile away so make sure you get essentials before getting there. Charlotte had general hand soap and shower gel but if you need laundry detergent and shampoo you’ll want to bring it for your stay.

The SIPHON offers a special glamping holiday where your carbon footprint will be minimal - we source as much as we can from local suppliers and ask our guests to recycle/compost. The SIPHON is off grid - solar power provides electricity for lighting and charging mobile phones - and there is a 'green' waterless toilet. A really exciting AND DIFFERENT holiday experience with outside space for barbecuing and play. Perfect for FAMILY celebrations, children AND dogs AND close to the EDEN PROJECT
Enjoy the comfort of the wood burning stove, melt marshmallow over the fire pit or cook your meal in the open air! Close to the Eden Project, The Siphon railway carriage offers a totally different holiday experience. Stay in this converted railway carriage with comfortable beds, fully equipped kitchen, COSY WOOD BURNING STOVE (first night’s fuel FREE thereafter £5 a pack) separate compost toilet and an amazing hot shower, 12 volt electricity for lighting and phone charging and a fire pit. A great off-grid glamping experience. Although listed as sleeping eight people, the Siphon itself sleeps UP TO SIX (bunk beds can only be used by children of six or above) with an additional two people being accommodated in The Toad BRAKE VAN which is close by, at a small additional charge The Siphon RAILWAY CARRIAGE is nearly 60' long, divided into three separate bedrooms, one with a king size double the SECOND with two single beds, plus an additional THIRD bedroom with bunk beds (not suitable for very young children). In addition two adults can be accommodated in The Toad brake van which is just a few yards away, offering the facility for two families or a larger group of friends to stay. There is a sitting/dining area with WOOD BURNING STOVE, fully equipped kitchen with gas cooker plus an outside dining area when the weather is warm. The Siphon can accommodate SIX people in three separate bedrooms(and up to 8 people in total using both carriages). The living space and one of the bedrooms have double doors which lead out onto raised decking - perfect for al fresco dining - and a fully equipped kitchen area with gas cooker, work tops, sink and storage plus an enormous, very efficient cold box on the balcony. We change the ice packs as and when necessary for our guests. The Siphon is 'off-grid' - there is no mains electricity only 12 volt lighting and a charging point for phones. Sorry, no tv or electrical appliances! There is a cold water supply inside the wagon and an amazing outside hot shower and a ‘green ‘ toilet a very few steps away (less than ten feet). Outside and on a lower level to The Siphon is a firepit and seating area (just wooden planks on blocks)! where you can enjoy a drink (or two), watch the stars or listen to the sounds of the country whilst filling the fire - we can sell you bags of logs (£5 bag for kiln dried wood) - sorry but we are unable to provide free fuel for either the Wood burning stove or the firepit. Fuel for the stove MUST be purchased from us at £5 a pack although we supply your first pack free of charge. (Logs, kindling, flamer firefighter and matches). You will share your outside space with the birds and the many wild animals which live around - foxes, badgers, deer, otters, squirrels and many more smaller mammals but the inside of the Siphon is warm and secure. Fall asleep to the sound of the nearby river and wake to the dawn chorus of the birds. The Siphon is not for the frail or timid - the doors are the original heavy wood ones and the catches are also original - marvel at the workmanship which went into the making of this grand old lady and marvel yet more at the way in which she has converted so magnificently into this unusual holiday space. We have had nothing but positive feedback from our guests who come with open minds to enjoy this unusual and definitely unique glamping holiday destination. We hope that everything will be perfect for you and it will certainly be a new and exciting holiday experience for everyone who stays. Our younger guests have delighted in the magic of staying on a 'train' and Train Teddy will be there to greet them. Lots of space for running around, outside games and a range of indoor games for families to enjoy if the weather isnt good. The Siphons - the telegraphic name for these commercial carriages - carried milk in milk churns from the West Country to the cities of the UK. The Siphons were based on the chassis of passenger carriages and often were added to the rear of express passenger trains travelling from the West Country in order to transport milk and other perishables as quickly as possible to London and other centres. There were louvres cut into the wooden sides at two levels to allow for greater ventilation and these we have retained as much as possible in 'our' Siphon. This is truly a piece of railway history, particularly as there are only a handful of Siphons still in existence and many of these are in a very poor state. We describe The Siphon as an unique 'glamping with style' experience - a beautiful and spacious area in a railway carriage - but perhaps you will have other ways of describing her.... Our guests will enjoy the Siphon, the surrounding area and have access onto miles of surrounding trails and the walk or cycle to the Eden Project. The Siphon is positioned on one of the sidings of the Trenance Valley Line - one of the last branch lines built by the Great Western Railway or the GWR - 'God's Wonderful Railway'. This line only carried commercial traffic. It was authorised in 1910, opened in 1920 after the first world war and eventually closed in 1968. A word of warning - the river is close by and is NOT securely fenced so children will need to be supervised but what an experience for everyone who stays here! We also feel that The Siphon experience may not be entirely suitable for very young children - children of three or younger have stayed very successfully and have been enthralled by the experience but, parents, be aware! no washing machine, only an outside shower and no tv! But there are plenty of positive things to offset these. Being close to nature, plenty of 'family' time with no digital distractions, walking, playing outside or playing some of the games which are inside the Siphon, melting marshmallows at the firepit, cooking supper over a wood fire, having evening sing-songs around the fire, partying - your choice - some or all of these! The whole area was an industrial site so be aware that there are drops, uneven surfaces and other hazards - but common sense and care will prevent any accidents. We are happy to suggest places to visit, suggestions on where to eat and walks accessible from The Siphon or slightly further away. The Siphon is in a rural position in a valley setting close to the River Vinnick - we could bore you with more historical detail but you can read all about the area when you are here. Centrally positioned for exploring Cornwall, close to the south Cornish beaches and only a short drive to the surfing beaches of the north coast - just a perfect holiday retreat! There is public transport but limited - do please try to bring a car or rent one when you get here - mainline trains at St. Austell, about 1.5 miles away, a few buses and, of course, taxis. You can also walk directly from The Siphon into St. Austell using the trails which cover miles of the surrounding area, or you can walk to the Eden Project using the trails. The Siphon is not connected to the national grid - electricity is 12 volt supplied via solar energy. Therefore - no tvs, no hairdryers, no washing machines -but plenty of peace, relaxation, bird song, playing games, conversation, good food and wine - the list is endless. There is a cold water supply connected to the sink in the kitchen and there is hot water to the shower and basin outside. We aim to keep our 'carbon footprint' as small as possible and at the same time offer our guests a truly unique holiday experience. We therefore ask all guests to recycle as much of their rubbish as possible (tins/plastic bottles/glass jars and bottles, cardboard and paper are all collected) and to buy local produce whenever possible to reduce 'food miles'. The Siphon has a wood burning stove installed which heats the main living area - an excellent heat source to keep away any chill. Please note that fuel for the stove must be purchased from us and guests are asked not to burn any rubbish in the stove. PLEASE NOTE THAT DURING PEAK PERIODS AND SCHOOL HOLIDAYS THERE IS A MINIMUM BOOKING PERIOD OF THREE DAYS. At all other times the minimum booking period is two days apart from a few weeks in November/December when we are happy to accept ONE DAY BOOKINGS. THE TOAD: We have a second carriage available which sleeps 2 adults - if your party numbers more than 6 please ask about this which is available at an extra but discounted price. The Toad brake van was used on the Great Western Railway at the end of long trains carrying commercial traffic. It has the original sand boxes supplying sand to the braking wheels to help slow down the train and although now converted to holiday accommodation the original features of the wagon are still present. The Toad offers a living space with seating and a double bed plus a kitchen with hob and sink. There is cold water only into the kitchen sink and a further tap outside. Outside is a fire area for outdoor cooking if the weather permits. The Toad is only available for renting in conjunction with The Siphon as it shares the outdoor shower and toilet and for groups of over 6. Very occasionally The Toad can be used as a stand alone unit but only when The Siphon is not being used. Minimum rental periods are then two days out of season and three days in season (July and August, Christmas and New Year and all school holidays). Please ask for more details. PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS AN ADDITIONAL CHARGE FOR USING THE TOAD IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE SIPHON - PLEASE ASK BEFORE REQUESTING A RESERVATION. The Siphon itself - all 60' of her space - the immediate surrounding area including the firepit for outside fires and barbecue area and access onto miles of surrounding trails - all this is available to our guests. We are here to answer questions, help with suggestions of places to visit, change the icepacks in the giant cold box as and when necessary, provide information for local sightseeing - as little or as much help as you might need. Public transport isn't great - the main line railway station is at St. Austell (about 1.5 miles away), Newquay Airport (about 11 miles away), cross channel ferry at Plymouth for France (about 40 miles away) but local bus services are infrequent and we really do suggest having a car at your disposal, even if you hire one when you get to St. Austell. Guests staying in The Siphon need to be slightly different in their outlook on life - enjoy the outdoors, maybe walking or cycling, surfing or swimming, sailing or kayaking - prepared to spend the evenings playing board games or sitting outside watching the stars - barbecue some freshly caught fish (from one of the nearby harbours) - just a few suggestions........
Very close to the Eden Project and within easy reach of Heligan Gardens and the beaches of the north and south coast.
  • Quirky and lots of fun. Lovely location with everything you need.

  • Such a beautiful train carriage, great location and not in the middle of nowhere as i originally thought. Very easy access into st austell. Fire had been lit for check in, so was lovely and warm throughout with a welcome pressie and some lovely plants. All rooms had extra blankets and a there was even a cute selection of hot water bottles provided to warm the beds due to the time of the year. The train has a lovely raised deck that overlooks a fast flowing river which was an added bonus. A truly different but wonderful stay.

  • We had a really good time staying at The Siphon. It was lovely and cosy with the log burner going on arrival in the evening, which was appreciated on a very wet and windy weekend at the end of October. The rain made it even more of a great adventure for a 9 and 5 year old and something they'll be talking about for months to come. It took them a little while to come to terms with getting their boots and coats on in the night to go to the outside loo, but that will only make it more memorable for them. It was refreshing to be 'off grid' for the long weekend, no electronics and just a good selection of board games and a radio (both provided) which was set to Classic FM for maximum chill in the evenings. Now that we're back home, the children are of course back on their iPad's, but I like to think with a fond memory for the simple life. We'll definitely try to go back in the summer to make the most of the surroundings. As a side note, everything that was provided was of high quality and eco friendly where possible.

  • Chris and Jo have an amazing air bnb and I would recommend this venue to anyone wanting a unique glamping experience. All amenities needed were available and although it was cold there were many blankets and thick quilts to keep us warm and cosy. This would be a perfect venue during the warmer periods to go on long walks along the clay trail and enjoy the surrounding area. There was an abundance of information given for things to do, eat, travel information and even places to avoid. Wonderful hosts an a wonderful experience. Already thinking of returning next year.

    Emily2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Would 100% recommend Chris and Jo’s place! The scenery is absolutely beautiful, the siphon is so cozy and heart warming and the decor is gorgeous! The 5 of us loved every second and we all hope to return in the future.

  • Family - including a toddler and two dogs! We had an absolutely fantastic time and Chris & Jo have done such a wonderful job restoring the carriage and turning it a lovely hideaway. Everything was so cozy and comfy, and there was everything you needed to make home cooking each day. The setting too is great, as although close to lots of places to explore, there was also a sense of being out in the wild! Thanks in part to an amazing outdoor shower, lots of trees and birds, the sound of the running river, and the fire pit to wile away the evenings

  • An amazingly cosy and unique place to stay. Chris and Jo have thought of everything and the kitchen is very well equipped. The vast selection of board games kept the kids assumed for quite a while. A great base for exploring Cornwall from. We particularly liked Mevagissy and Porthpean beach.

  • Fabulous stay in the glorious Siphon with our 2 children. Cosy carriage with comfy beds and a super outdoor shower. Our children. Loved free range play and we enjoyed being off grid for a couple of days. We booked last minute and Chris and Jo were incredibly welcoming and accommodating. Highly recommended!

Touchstone Cottage is a lovingly restored 200 year old fisherman's cottage just a stone's throw from Mevagissey's working harbour on the much sought after sunny East Cliff. As a 19th century cottage, tucked away up a secluded cobbled path, you are unable to reach the Cottage by car; this ensures that you will enjoy a peaceful stay. The Lost Gardens of Heligan are within walking distance, while The Eden Project is just a short 20 minute drive. The nearest beach is 10 minutes away on foot.
The upper floor of the Cottage is light and airy; a partition wall has been removed to create a 'mezzanine' bedroom, next to the bathroom. The bedroom has a lovely view across the cobbled back streets of the Village. Light floods down the stairs to the Living Room which features original floorboards which have been lovingly restored, and a log burning stove. There are exposed beams throughout and heaps of character. The cottage is painted white throughout, and features lovely Loaf furniture in the bedroom and living room. Downstairs, on the ground floor, the kitchen/diner features the prettiest slate tiles complete with underfloor heating. Should you choose to cook at home you will find that the kitchen is fully equipped with electric hob and oven, and a lovely pale blue 1950s style SMEG fridge with freezer box. The look is complemented by the mid-century Ercol table and chairs. Finally, a word of caution, the internal stairs are original and are therefore tight and steep, and the cobbled path leading to the cottage can be slippery when wet! I very much look forward to welcoming you. Please do not hesitate to get in touch should you have any questions.
Mevagissey is a beautiful base from which to explore the surrounding area and you will experience a real slice of traditional Cornish life during your stay. In the village itself you will find many lovely shops to browse around alongside 'olde worlde' pubs, cafes and restaurants, where you can eat and drink locally sourced produce. The fishermen haul in their catch at the end of the day and both deep-sea angling trips and short mackerel fishing trips in the bay are available from the quay. The seagulls follow the boats in and are very noisy; just thought I would mention this as the cottage is very close to the harbour! During the summer months there are ferries that will take you from the harbour to Fowey or around the coastline. Mevagissey also has its own small sealife aquarium and museum. Mevagissey is surrounded by beautiful beaches which you can access from The Coast Path; the cottage is just seconds from the Coast Path. You can walk up 'The Cliff' to the top and follow the footpath to beautiful Polstreath beach (steps down) or you can walk over the top of Polkirt Hill and down to Portmellon beach, a sandy cove with plenty of rock pools. From here you can follow the Coast Path to Colona Beach at Chapel Point beach, and, if you are a keen walker, you can keep on walking to Gorran Haven Beach, and you might catch sight of seals, dolphins or even basking sharks on the way. Mevagissey does have its own small beach in the harbour if you do not want to walk. There are many other unspoilt beaches within 10 minutes' drive including Gorran Haven, Vault Beach, Hemmick and Porthluney 'Caerhays', to name but a few. Lovely unspoilt villages such as Port Holland and Portloe, the majestic Nare Head and Pendower Beach, and the Roseland Peninsula and its beautiful beaches, including Towan beach, are all within a 30 minute drive. You can also take the scenic King Harry Ferry across the Fal River and continue on to Falmouth. The North Coast is a short 40 minute drive away and there are surfing beaches at Newquay, Perranporth etc. Mevagissey also hosts its own Feast Week during the last week of June when the harbour is decorated with bright lights and flags, there is a full week of activities and on the final evening there is a spectacular firework display around the harbour. Local Beach Summary Mevagissey beach in the harbour (5 minutes walk) Polstreath beach (steps down) - walk up 'The Cliff' on the east side of the harbour to the top and follow the Coast Path (10 minutes walk) Pentewan beach - follow the Coast Path east of Polstreath beach Portmellon beach - walk over the top of Polkirt Hill (20 minutes walk) Colona Beach, Chapel Point - follow the Coast Path west of Portmellon (30 minutes walk)
  • Really charming cottage, nicely done up, perfect for a cosy winter weekend. 30 second walk from the harbour with lovely views and lots of nice places to eat and explore.

  • A lovely old fisherman’s cottage, up a lovely old street in a lovely old town. The space was everything we hoped for, with a very comfortable kitchen and a lovely view over the town from the bedroom. It’s a stones throw from the harbour and its amenities, and well positioned for walks along the coast, a trip to the Eden project or a longer journey to explore other parts of Cornwall.

    Leonie2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • A great location, with everything you need for a break at the seaside. We enjoyed walking to the Lost Gardens of Heligan, and the coastal walk to Gorran Haven. A friendly village too!

  • Lovely cottage in beautiful village. Perfect for 2

    Antonia2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is right in the heart of Mevagissey - so convenient for shops, pubs and restaurants. The property was stylish in it’s decoration and very comfortable. Lots of charm and a welcoming place to stay.

CLOSE TO the EDEN PROJECT The Mill is the ground floor of Bojea Mill. Although the building has four floors in total the ground floor is the only occupied area - the floor above is a party floor which we use for family clebrations when we have no guests staying. Visit at any time of the year and enjoy all that Cornwall has to offer. Perfect for long walks - with or without a dog - wrapping up warm in the winter - superb dining opportunities...
********************************** ********************************** AND stay in The Mill which is the ground floor of Bojea Mill. The building was a corn mill, with a water wheel powered by water from the River Vinnick. However, the wheel is long gone together with most of the mill machinery. We welcome you to our home... TRAVEL TO CORNWALL for the weekend - under 5 hours on the train from Paddington or an easy drive. Relax in the Mill or explore the local area, go swimming on the south coast or surfing on the north coast, walk the coastal footpath, go beachcombing, trek the moors, visit THE EDEN PROJECT or THE LOST GARDENS OF HELIGAN - The choice is yours! Any time is a perfect time to visit - deserted beaches in the spring and autumn - mild weather, wonderful walks along the coastal paths, perhaps the opportunity to sit in the sun on one of the special Cornish beaches, or try your hand at surfing, sailing, kayaking, coasteering, windsurfing - all this plus the haven of The Mill to return to in the evenings. Cook in or eat out - The choice is yours! DOGS ARE WELCOME HERE! Walk straight from the door onto the surrounding trails - or even to Eden - or explore the local beaches - a dog's delight! A small charge of £15 for each animal per stay is made for your pet and please let us know if you are bringing your pet with you BEFORE you book. THE EDEN PROJECT The time to enjoy this world renowned project - spend the day learning about our dependence on plants and marvel at this amazing site - be inspired and learn to connect with others in new ways. THE MILL is a former corn mill which was water driven, but the water course was diverted some time ago. It now offers a spectacular space with stone walls and massive wooden beams supported by cast iron pillars. There are comfortable beds in TWO en suite bedrooms, a sofa which converts to a small double plus a further sofa made for curling up in with a good book, modern kitchen equipment and an enclosed garden. Perfect for one or two couples, friends or a family group of up to 6 (using a convertible sofa in the sitting room and/or a cot in one of the bedrooms). One bedroom has a king size double, the other two twin beds. If you require both rooms made as doubles please let us know at time of booking. The sitting room is large and spacious and offers the space for relaxing, playing games or watching tv or a dvd. Keep in touch using the free wifi (which is generally fairly reliable but we are unable to always guarantee this due to our rural position)! or do some research to make the best possible use of your time here. There is a small enclosed garden area immediately adjacent to the Mill with another 3 acres of grounds to walk through and with direct access onto the miles of nearby trails which are used by walkers, cyclists and horseriders but these trails are unlit and mainly rough surfaced and steep in places. Enjoy a leisurely walk to the Eden Project (4 miles or about an hour or two) or to the South Coast at Pentewan and Mevagissey along the miles of trails which criss cross the surrounding area. We are only too happy to suggest outings for our guests, quiet beaches, good walks, dog friendly areas, places to eat, the nearest shops, cheapest fuel, but the Mill is your home for you to enjoy for the duration of your stay. The Mill is an old building and we have retained the exposed granite walls in places out of respect for the origins of the building - it does NOT have a modern, plastered interior with double glazed, plastic windows but it DOES have enormous character and atmosphere. The beams are immense as they carried the weight of vast quantities of corn and these beams are supported by cast iron pillars which were made locally at Charlestown and there are gigantic pieces of granite in the walls, still showing evidence of oil stains from when the bearings of the cogs and wheels needed frequent greasing. This is not to the detriment of the building - its just a bit of its past history. We have many different species of birds visiting us throughout the year (the dawn chorus is quite loud!) and plenty of wildlife in the vicinity. In the spring you can walk amongst the bluebells, and later in the year enjoy the foxgloves. There is a riverside stroll which leads onto the trails. You may be lucky enough to spot some deer, or maybe a fox or badger and the last few summers an otter was spotted! The main line railway station is at St. Austell, just over a mile away. Local car hire firms will deliver a hire car direct to the station by prior arrangement. The airport at Newquay is within easy reach and it is possible to hire a car from there. Ferries travel from Plymouth (about 40 miles away) to France (Roskoff, Britanny). OUR OTHER PROPERTY - THE SIPHON, is a converted railway carriage sleeping up to six people - this is about 1/4 mile away along the former track of the old railway - and gives the opportunity of accommodating groups of up to 14 people between the two sites. Perfect for two or three families, a wedding group or a group of friends. The Siphon now has a wood burning stove to keep guests warm during the colder months. PLEASE NOTE: DURING PEAK PERIODS AND SCHOOL HOLIDAYS (Easter and July and August and the Christmas period) THERE IS A MINIMUM BOOKING PERIOD OF Three DAYS but at other times the minimum booking period is two days. Our guests will have sole use of the Mill's ground floor - a large area! The small enclosed garden area with parking. Access onto miles of trails (leading to The Eden Project, The Wheal Martyn China Clay Museum and the South coast at Pentewan). As much or as little as our guests desire...we are happy to give advice on places to visit. Just let us know what works best for you! Public transport in Cornwall has its limitations! The main line train service covers the County right down to Penzance with branch lines serving Looe, falmouth, Newquay and St. Ives. However, we would always recommend having a car at your disposal - whether you drive down or travel down by train and then rent a car - this way you will be able to enjoy your visit and see so much more. Please be aware of the dog restrictions on some Cornish beaches - a list is in the Mill. OR perhaps VISIT THE EDEN PROJECT.. What about a special dining experience? Rick Stein (Padstow), Jamie Oliver 15 (Watergate Bay), Nathan Outlaw (Port Isaac) and Paul Ainsworth (Padstow) all have restaurants not too far away plus dozens more to choose from for truly memorable meals. Make your stay a gastronomic one! ****************************** PLAN YOUR VISIT! ******************************* Then why not stay with us - a short drive from the Eden Project or taxi ride or bus ride ( (which takes you into st austell town centre) or even a (longish) Walk. Easy reach of both the south coast and north coast and convenient to superb dining experiences in the County.
Very close to The Eden Project - drive there in a few minutes, walk or cycle along the adjacent trails. Close to beaches and coastal walks
  • Clean comfortable slice of quiet Cornish charm. Perfect place to retreat but not too far from civilization to feel isolated. Amenities are only a short drive away to main town one way and choice of villages the other. Perfect for all reasons

The Ancient Cob Barn is exclusive and secluded but not isolated. A quiet retreat but with hi-tec amenities. On a bridle path providing excellent walks or bike rides in each direction to nearby beaches and the coastal path. 5 miles from Eden Project or Lost Gardens of Heligan. Bicycles included
Constructed of earth and granite, part of a small complex of old farm buildings, with just this one as accommodation, in a tiny hamlet along an unspoilt farm track alongside an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. On a bridle path joining the National Cycle Route close to beaches and the Coastal Footpath. Mountain bikes with helmets available for your use. Digital projector with HDTV, Netflix and Sky Sports for your entertainment. Organic veg from our kitchen garden. Huge farmhouse kitchen opening onto cobbled courtyard. Living room/home cinema with balcony and steps leading down to a garden. Local Delabole slate ground floors with cosy underfloor heating and walk-in wet room from bedroom. The barn has been painstakingly restored using traditional building materials and has a large, craftsman built kitchen with 5 gas burner/electric oven range cooker, microwave, fridge with ice box, toaster, kettle and quality utensils plus Sabatier knife set. Everything from quick snacks to gourmet meals served at the massive farmhouse table. The barn is supplied with its own water source, filtered and UV treated, for the perfect cup of tea. Upstairs the spacious living area, which includes two daybeds, has open beams, English oak floorboards and steps down to the garden. Wooden shutters provide a blackout for viewing stunning HD TV and Netflix movies via a video projector with surround sound. Sky Sports available if a day or week pass purchased. The bedroom has adjoining wet room with WC and basin. The whole barn is connected to Wi-Fi and the eating area has a Mac computer with internet and TV. All linen and towels provided. Property is cleaned and linen and towels renewed at changeover or weekly. Although the barn is surrounded by countryside, it is only a few minutes' drive from the town, which is served by banks, post office, supermarkets and a mainline rail station. 4G mobile coverage with most providers. Mid Cornwall is perfect for accessing all of the county's many attractions - from the rugged north coast to the far west, from the wilds of Bodmin Moor to the delights of the Eden Project and Heligan Gardens. Settings for the Rosamunde Pilcher stories within easy reach. Transport to and from St Austell railway station can be arranged if you wish to come by train. Narrow stairs from kitchen to living area and bedroom may be unsuitable for anyone with impaired mobility. Access to the property is via a farm lane/bridle path which is not suitable for very low slung vehicles such as sports cars and can get muddy in the winter. Standard family cars are fine. Sorry but we do not allow pets. We bought the disused and dilapidated barns near to the house in 1995 and have spent the intervening years repairing and restoring them with the skilled assistance of Allan and Richard, the carpenters, Les, the cob specialist and Pete, our nephew. Along with the barns came a small field, where we now have our kitchen garden and where the chickens are fenced among the trees in a copse. The cob barn restoration was completed in the summer of 2012 after many years of hard work. It has been a labour of love, with much attention paid to detail as our long-term aim is to live there ourselves. Cob is a mixture of clay subsoil and straw that is wetted and trampled, originally by cattle but nowadays by digger, to get the right consistency. It is laid on a base of stone, heeled in and each layer left to dry before being adzed smooth and coated in lime plaster to allow it to breath. Cob buildings can last for centuries if they have "a good hat and a good pair of boots". The thick cob walls keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
  • Such an amazing little getaway! 100% will be staying in the future! The kitchen is an amazing place to cook and eat a roast with all amenities you could want. You also pretty much have your own private cinema! Cannot fault this place at all. Amazing job on the restoration!

The Housekeeper's Hideaway is a unique studio space 2 minutes walk from Mevagissey's picturesque working fishing harbour. The space is perfect for couples, or solo travellers, who are looking for somewhere a little unusual, definitely with a boutique feel, as well as wanting a cosy home-from-home to return to at the end of the day. The cave like structure of the original dwelling, including the cliff wall, was exposed during an extensive refurbishment in 2016 and dates back to the mid 1600s.
Access to your own front door is down one flight of external stairs from my patio. The space is unique because when you descend the stairs and look through the window you then discover that you are actually two floors up as the house is built into the cliff. Light floods into the space through the beautiful double sash window - which fills an entire wall of the studio - and you can gaze out across the village. The immediate view is of rooftops and the neighbour's patio. Another wall of the studio - a lime pointed stone wall - is at ground level against a secret passage way which runs behind a terrace of nearby cottages. There is now a window where there was once a doorway through which the Housekeeper - for the adjoining property The Old Dairy - would pass to reach her husband's cottage. There is a huge fire place with a Wood Burner for cosy evenings in a painted stone wall. The fourth and final wall - the backdrop for your bathroom / shower and small kitchen - is actually the rock face or cliff. There are two marks in the cliff that suggest the cottage was once home to a traditional pilchard press which, given that the Housekeeper's husband was a fisherman, is likely. The space has been sympathetically restored keeping all of the original features. The overall look is paired back and simple with a touch of modern industrial; the space also features Danish-style pale solid ash flooring. The wet room has gorgeous fittings and natural stone tiles from Fired Earth that complement the rock and I have added a super cute mini kitchen from IKEA so that you can cook breakfast and simple meals. Please feel free to get in touch if you would like any further information. PLEASE NOTE: in order to highlight the cliff wall - the wet room (loo and basin) within the studio space is enclosed behind a large glass screen / door which does not extend to the ceiling. However whilst a stunning and unique design feature this does not allow for a great deal of privacy; please take this into consideration before booking.

  • We had the most lovely few days at Pam's place. The loveliest of getaways. Everything was very clean. Definitely for fit couples as the place is on a bit of a hill. The only downside was that we didn't book in for longer! Mevagissey is a lovely village with plenty to do, and amazing access to the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan. We also walked along the coastal cliff to a beach half an hours walk away, which was lovely. 10/10 recommend.

It can also be reached by means of the coastal footpath from Porthpean. It is an excellent village to visit for a relaxed pub meal whilst enjoying views over the harbour and out to sea. There is also a small beach.Pentewan (just north of Mevagissey) has an industrial past that is still evident in the village today. It was once a busy harbour built by a local mine owner for shipping china clay. Inland is the Pentewan Valley Trail which is 4km of woodland and riverside walking following an old gauge railway to the village of London Apprentice. The village also has a small, friendly pub with tables on the old harbour side. There is a wonderful sandy, beach which is ideal for families. The town of Mevagissey is just a 15 minute drive away. Mevagissey is a wonderful little Cornish fishing village in South East Cornwall. The tiny seaside village is packed with old Cornish cottages complete with narrow alleyways leading to converted fish cellars offering gift shops, galleries, pubs and cafes. Once a major Pilchard port, now the harbour boasts a smaller fleet, many of which provide sea tours, or boat trips to Fowey situated further up the South coast. The harbour provides an ideal back drop for a fish and chips supper, followed by a stroll through the town at dusk.he Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project are within an easy drive and so this is an excellent location for the keen gardener. Nearby Gorran Haven offers an alternative day out. You can continue south along the coast down to Caerhays Castle and Porthluney Cove. Cliff walks in all directions along the coast offer spectacular views out across the St Austell Bay with the coastal path only a few minutes walk from the cottage.St Austell was once the major producer of the world's China Clay. Now with cheaper foreign imports the industry is in decline but The Wheal Martyn China Clay Museum set in two former working pits depicts the countryside in years gone by. Wet weather activities could include the visitor centre at St Austell Brewery, sampling beers and ales made on the premises. The brewery has recently started exporting its products across the Tamar River to England, so you may just find where your favourite brew is made.
  • Comfortable, well equipped cottage with spectacular views across St Austell Bay. Would not hesitate visiting again.

  • Such an amazing property with tremendous views. You can wake up every morning looking out onto the sea; listening to the waves crashing and birds singing, and settle at night under a blanket of stars of endless wonder. Truly a home away from home in every way.

  • We've had a wonderful few days at Tregolfa cottage, with the advantage of having had beautiful weather ! The cottage was clean and spacious and all facilities were present and working (Wi-fi, TV, washingmachine, dishwasher, 2 bathrooms etc.) We did not meet with the owner or housekeeper, which for us, was just what we wanted. Explanation on how to obtain the key and guidelines for use of the cottage were all sent beforehand via email. We loved the nice gesture of leaving us milk and cookies to find when we arrived. We were happy we could stay at the cottage with our dog, without many restrictions except the obvious ones (taking care she would not disturb the other guests and golfers at the neighbouring golfcourse). It is a wonderful place with stunning view and for golfers (which we are not) a fantastic chance to stay and golf all day at the golfcourse ! We hope to return one day!

  • A perfect location for The Eden Project, and within walking distance of the local swimming pool. Clean, warm and cosy with a separate entrance which meant I didn't have to worry about disturbing Mark and Donna, which was great. Couldn't have asked for more.

Small double bedroom with adjacent private bathroom in a modern and professional home. The bedroom itself is relatively small however perfectly suitable for one person. South facing and decorated in neutral colours the room has an airy feel to it, you’ll find a small double (4ft / 1.2m wide) bed with a comfortable memory foam mattress, single mirrored wardrobe, chest of drawers, a side table and one bedside cabinet.
The room is laid out with the bed against the wall so as to allow more space for moving around. If this is not an issue you may find that it is suitable for two people. Other items in the room include; Touch lamp on bed side cabinet, television with Freeview, hairdryer, iron & ironing Board, oversized king-sized light weight duvet and four pillows. The bathroom is adjacent to the bedroom and is used only by this room, it has a toilet, basin and bath with shower over, also in the bath room you will find the following; Bath towel, hand towel, flannel, bath mat, shampoo, conditioner & toilet roll. It may be possible for you to use the washing machine but please confirm this first and bear in mind there is only an outside washing line for drying so you’ll need to time the weather right! It is a modern semi-detached three-bedroom house positioned at the end of the close and subsequently has a calm and relaxing feel to it, the house is clean, tidy and well-presented and I am very lucky to have lovely neighbours. I live here with my three cats, Josie, Tilly & Teddy who are naturally convinced that they are in charge and subsequently roam freely (please keep your doors closed if you don't want to have guests of your own). There is a well-equipped kitchen if you wish to prepare any meals – just be sure to load the dishwasher and try to be finished by ten so that I can get my beauty sleep! Opposite the house is a dedicated private and off-road drive for you to park a car. The back garden is split over two levels, please feel free to make use of the top level where you’ll find a selection of garden furniture available on the lawn. Please feel free to use the sitting room during the working week days, I do reserve this to myself for the evening and weekends though. House requests Other than respecting the non-smoking policy please just be mindful of the time and noise levels within the house after 10pm If you wish to stay up chatting after this then the conservatory off the kitchen is a great relaxed place for this.
The house is built on a recent housing development in Par, Par is a village and fishing port with a harbour on the south Cornish coast set between Charlestown and Fowey.
  • Matthew was a fabulous host and the accommodation itself is great — exactly as it is described. A great room for both short and long term stays being close to many attractions. Having the shops in Par and the beach within walking distance is handy. You’d be hard pressed to find a more helpful, friendly, and welcoming host than Matthew.

  • Clare was amazing! Comfortable. Private, Clean and Cozy! She went above and beyond our expectations, giving us great restaurants to choose from as well as helpful hints for travel! You’ll love it!

  • We had a great weekend staying in Treetops Woodland room, which has a feature window with nice views of a woods, a comfy bed and enough kitchen equipment for breakfast/lunch . Claire was lovely and very prompt with replies and check-in/out, and was happy to give advice about local area. The beach was close to the house and very pretty, and the coast path walk was stunning. The food in Charlestown was also delicious with a good choice of restaurants (about a 10 min walk away), of which we tried the Boathouse and Harbourside. Overall a great place to stay for a weekend away, very clean and with a simple but tasty breakfast provided. Thank you Claire and Rich!

  • Me and my partner had a wonderful stay! We were greeted by an excellent host, very friendly and helpful, and the place was beautiful. They have thought of everything, from breakfast supplies to bathrobes. The beach, even in this cold time of year, was a good visit aswell as Eden Project which was easy to get to. Overall a really lovely stay.

  • Treetops was spotlessly clean, cosy, and ideally located. Just a 15 minute drive to both the Eden project and Heligan gardens and only 10 minute walk from Charleston which offers plenty of restaurant options. Our room was lovely, comfortable, private, and had everything we could need. After a long day of walking it was the perfect spot to recharge our batteries. I highly recommend and would gladly stay again in the future.

Penstrassoe 3 Within walking distance to Charlestown and easy access to the Eden Project, Heligan Gardens and many beautiful Cornish beaches, this room will provide you with a comfortable base to explore the wonders of Cornwall.
A double room with TV, Amazon Firestick, tea & coffee making facilities, newly refurbished family bathroom.
Locally there is an excellent provision of food choices within walking distance. We are also perfectly positioned to explore the entire County. Previous guests have visited The Historic Port of Charlestown (Poldark has been filmed here), Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan. Within an hour you can be walking on Bodmin Moor or swimming in the blue waters of Porth Curnow. Beaches are plentiful! The most local is Carlyon Bay with others such as Porthpean, Pentewan, Caerhays and Polkerris a short drive away. If you fancy exploring more widely head for the Roseland Peninsula and look for Carne, Pendower and Caerhayes. The North Coast is more rugged and a fantastic spot to watch the sun set. Personally I love, Newquay, Crantock, Holywell Bay, Polzeath, Harlin Bay & Perranporth. St Austell town centre is a short stroll left out of the house and up the hill. It has a variety of independent and high street stores and is definitely worth a potter if you have time. Truro is larger and the Cathedral City of Cornwall. There are many shops, restaurants, cafes in the city as well as the Museum for Cornwall and of course the stunning Cathedral! If you like walking I thoroughly recommend ‘IWALK Cornwall’ which is a free app and has loads of fantastic circular walks for every taste, covering the whole of Cornwall. A walk costs £1.99 to download and uses GPS to guide you every step of the way. Eating and Drinking Costa – great for a coffee and snack breakfast – turn right out of the house and cross at the double roundabout. Follow the road towards Mevagissey and you will find Costa in the complex on your right. You can’t miss McDonalds and KFC which are also in that area! Frankie and Bennie’s, Wetherspoons & Prezzo are in the White River Place, turn left out of the house, 2 mins walk up the hill along with a host of independents including Smorgers, Nepalese Gurkha Restaurant, Watermargin Chinese Restaurant, Walkers Fish & Chips If you fancy something different head for Charlestown to eat or drink. There is a plethora of bars, restaurants and coffee shops, some of which are listed below. All have a pleasant atmosphere & serve high quality food but please make sure you book ahead to avoid disappointment*: The Longstore* - Charlies Boathouse* - The Pier House Hotel* - Rashleigh Inn * - The Harbourside - Charlies Coffee Shop – Pentewan is 10 min drive and offers, Simply Judes Brasserie and The Kingswood Restaurant can be found 5 minutes away in London Apprentice A more complete guide can be found: https://www.eatoutcornwall.com/restaurants/st-austell/
  • Jer’s place was spotlessly clean and good value for money, he was a very friendly host and asked multiple times if everything was ok and if there was anything else he could do to make my stay better. Would definitely recommend Pentrassoe if you're looking for a cheap and cheerful place close to St Austell town centre.

Mevagissey is a wonderful little Cornish fishing village in South East Cornwall. Ideally located within easy reach of both The Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project. The Harbour provides an ideal back drop for a fish and chip supper, followed by a stroll through the town at dusk. With a eight minute drive to The Lost Gardens of Heligan and 30 minutes to the Eden Project, Mevagissey provides a excellent location for the keen gardener. Gorran Haven nearby offers an alternative day out as well as Pentewan with its fresh water dock basin. You can continue south along the coast down to Caerhays Castle and Porthluney Cove. Cliff walks in all directions along the coast offer spectacular views out across the St Austell Bay.
  • Great location and great accommodation, we will definitely come back to Ferryman’s Cottage.

    Andrew2019-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • This was just what we needed for two for a week; we needed Friday to Friday and not many were available. Excellent views over the inner harbour. Quiet location, almost no traffic underneath, only occasional foot traffic immediately in front (probably a bit different in summer?). Not large but very comfortable. Nice to have a real bath after a wet walk. Very narrow and quite steep stairs; no worry for us but could be a problem for some. Electric hob very basic old-fashioned style but quite adequate. The wifi key was not visible and asking the 'host' Richard said I should ask the housekeeper which wasn't as helpful as it should have been. I didn't bother as we had good 4G reception and a goody bag with plenty of data, and I think it unlikely the housekeeper would have known; it doesn't strike me as part of their role. If you really need wifi double-check details before booking. Richard is not really the host, but agent for cornwallscottages, but in his role as host as far as Airbnb is concerned he should have been more helpful.

    Stephen2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is even prettier in real life than it is in the photos, and that's saying something! We came here directly after our wedding, hoping for a quiet, relaxing few days on the Cornish coast, and it was exactly what we were hoping for. Richard sent very detailed and easy-to-follow instructions very early on, which was extremely helpful, especially given how busy we were before leaving. The house itself couldn't be better located - the sea, the harbour and the town all just a few steps away - but also extremely quiet and peaceful. It is beautifully furnished, very clean and cosy. The town itself is lovely, with plenty to do nearby and the coastal path easily accessible. All in all we had a wonderful few days and would recommend this to anyone.

    Zoë2019-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage was the perfect break away from the stress of everyday life. The cottage itself is very beautiful with lots of character. It is perfectly located on the harbour with stunning views and easy walking distance to the pubs / restaurants. This cottage was so good we will definitely be back again.

    Andrew2018-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • Has a wonderful week long stay in the beautiful Mevagissey. The cottage is very quaint and in a perfect location. The view of the working harbour is exceptional. The cottage has everything you could need. The kitchen is well equipped and easy to use. Comfy bed, good storage space just outside. The bath was great and the shower too. We loved having a real fire in December. There was even wifi, which we weren't expecting! There is a fairly steep climb to the cottage, so anyone with mobility issues may want to consider this. But in less than a minute you can be at the harbour side. The car had to be parked across the harbour, about 3/4 km away, but a pleasant walk looking at the boats and shops (and seagulls!) even in the rain. Easy to unload and load your luggage just below the cottage, but may be a little trickier at the height of tourist season. We have stayed in Meva on several occasions, but this is our new favourite place to stay and we will be back. There was even a very lovely ginger cat who invited himself in, which we were very pleased about! Such a friendly chap. We shall give him full marks on Catadvisor. (His name is Willow or 'The Harbour Master' and he belongs to a woman called Molly who lives up the road! There is also Ralph, a black cat, who is also a great local feline!)

  • Had a really great couple of days at the cottage. Fantastic location a short walk from everything you need. The cottage is well equipped and has everything you need. The only thing I struggled with was the mixer taps on the shower! Parking was easy even in the middle of August!

    Cindy2018-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • The views from the cottage are absolutely lovely. It helps that Mevagissey is still a working fishing village. It makes it more interesting. The cottage is really funky. It's been carved into the rocks and as such the walls follow how the place was carved out. Namely, the walls are not square and instead tend to be curved in places. Otherwise the place is very comfortably and had everything we needed. I would certainly stay there again if we were to return to Mevagissey.

  • Very cozy cottage with spectacular views. Clean and tidy. Very close to stores and restaurants. It was a little chilly, even with the space heater. A wood burning stove is available if you have the means to light it.

Nestled between St Austell and Carlyon Bay, Charlestown is a picturesque, historic fishing port on the South East coast of Cornwall.Having largely resisted the modernisation and commercialisation of some other popular destinations, Charlestown has held onto it's unique, quintessential Cornish charm. For this reason, it has been a popular backdrop to a number of film and television projects, including Poldark, Dr Who and Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. Steeped in history, no visit would be complete without a trip to the Charlestown shipwreck and Heritage centre, which exhibits a fascinating array of artefacts, stories and information about the village and it's maritime history. Aside from the museum, Charlestown also has a couple of art galleries, a harbourside pub boasting excellent views, a small sandy beach and a number of small shops to browse your way through.Once a year the village holds its annual Regatta: a week long event featuring watersports, games, sports competitions and a carnival, all to raise money for the village. With plenty to while away a very pleasant day, Charlestown is well worth a visit.

  • A great house in a great location! We appreciated having a dog-friendly house in this great location. We loved being able to walk down to the Charlestown beach each morning and evening, be within 5-10 minutes drive of beaches at Porthpean, Carlyon, and Par, and so close to grocery stores (Tesco, ASDA, and Lidl) for supplies for self-catering. The house was lovely and warm, stylish, and exactly what we were looking for. Would love to come back at some point.

  • Westaway Cottage is a lovely property. Beautifully renovated, clean, cosy, comfortable, and in a fantastic location. The space worked really well for a mixed family group of six adults. We would love to come again in the warmer months, to take advantage of the south-facing garden!

  • We had a very comfortable 2 night stay at Clare and Rich's. Our hosts were responsive with communication. The facilities were very clean and well organised. Clare was so welcoming and had lots of suggestions for local places to visit and dine etc. She had provided information, maps and a selection of books, games & films for evenings in. The private beach is within a short walking distance and is a spectacular sight, even on a wild wet and windy autumn afternoon!

Little Poppies is a light and airy self-contained annexe with its own access; it is exclusively for the use of guests. We are situated on the outskirts of St Austell, within 5 minutes of Porthpean & Charlestown beaches. The property is a sun trap with a Mediterranean feel, sun beds are available on the decking area which are ideal if you are looking forward to some relaxation. Enjoy an evening of gazing at the stars from the lovely private hot tub in our garden.
Little Poppies is a self-contained annexe exclusively for use of guests. The annexe is accessed via it's own front door; it has a kitchen, bedroom/lounge area, bathroom and access to garden with hot tub. Shampoo, shower gel, WiFi, tea/coffee, orange juice, bottled water, range of cereals, towels, bed linen, extra blankets and toilet rolls are provided. Ideally situated on the South Coast of Cornwall, with numerous beaches, coastal and woodland walks and attractions such as Charlestown, Lost Gardens of Heligan, the Eden Project, Fowey and Mevagissey. Charlestown harbour is approximately 15 minutes walk away; the harbour is unspoilt, listed and has been used recently as a key location for filming the remake of Poldark. There are plenty of bars, restaurants and gift shops to be enjoyed whilst taking in the breathtaking views out over St Austell Bay. St Austell is in mid Cornwall and is a great central location for Cornwall as there are a number of beautiful places within easy reach. There are a number of supermarkets nearby; Asda is within walking distance. We are dog lovers and have a number of small family pets including a few rescue dogs, they are very friendly and are always eager to meet new people. They do have access to the garden, however, we are able to manage them separately if you wish to use the garden.
Quiet, friendly neighbourhood, a truly wonderful place to live.
  • Our stay at Little Poppies was far better than we could ever have expected. We knew it was a lovely place from the pictures seen on Airbnb but Lindsay and Tony's hospitality and their attention to detail topped it off and made our weekend in St Austell perfect. The place has a real homely feel to it and there were numerous extra bits provided such as books and games as well as information about the area to name a few. We will definitely be staying again!

    Krishan2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • The Little Poppies is the ideal place to stay and explore St Austell and Cornwall in general. The home is maintained to excellent standards and there are several little touches that will make you feel at home right away! Lindsay and her partner Tony were warm, kind, receptive and super helpful. I would 100% recommend this air bnb.

    Shani2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! This was my first ever stay in an Air bnb, and I would definitely reccomend Little Poppies. The place was really beautiful and all the little thoughtful touches just made the stay even better. The hot tub was just perfect for relaxing in after a day of adventuring and exploring the area. Lindsay, Tony & Chloe were fab hosts. Nothing was too much trouble; they really went above and beyond. Thank you x

    Katharine2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • Lindsay and Tony are great hosts, very welcoming and helpful. Little Poppies is a delightful space, stylishly decorated and has everything you could ever need (including prosecco and a cream tea waiting for you on arrival!). Overall we would highly recommend this air Bnb :)

    Jessica2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Lindsay's place is a great place to stay if you are visiting Cornwall. It is very clean and so pretty! There are so many thoughtful touches- you notice more & more of them the longer you stay. And it was so reasonably priced! I'm glad it was within our budget.

    Merlyn2019-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Lindsay and Tony’s place The Little Poppies and it was spectacular! Lindsay and Tony were wonderful hosts and made our stay far better than we could have ever expected. It was amazing looked after and clean and had all the best little touches that really blew our mind and the Hot Tub was just the cherry on top in the private garden. It was the best way to end every day. We would highly recommend staying at The Little Poppies. We would definitely go back the next time we go back to Cornwall.

    Cameron2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • A brilliant apartment with great facilities in a wonderful location. Very highly recommended.

    Bonnie2019-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • This is an absolute GEM of a home, with wonderful hosts. I decided on a weekend away (alone) not having done anything like this before, and can say hand on heart I had the most amazing time. Lindsey and Tony showed me around, and most importantly how to use the hot tub, but then leave you to get on with things privately without interference, although you know if you need them they are only next door. Little Poppies is just idyllic, the attention to detail is faultless with little added touches to make you truly feel 'at home'. Home made scones, fresh orange, and all types of tea and coffee, among a variety of other delights await you, there is no need to worry about shampoo or shower cream these are all provided too!.... The hot tub was amazing after a day of walking around taking in the fab scenery, an added bonus to this incredible home... I did not want to leave, and have been telling everyone of this wonderful find. Am definitely going back to Little Poppies again. Thank you so much Lindsay and Tony, truly cannot wait to come back again x

  • We loved our stay at the Lodge. The space is stylish, clean and practical; with comfortable beds, a social, open-plan space downstairs and the beach just a couple of minutes walk away. We stayed during storm Dennis so the weather could’ve been kinder, but the house was an excellent, comforting base for our winter stay. The utility area was really handy to dry off our clothes and the lovely soap in the bathrooms gave a touch of luxury. There’s so much to explore in the area too. We’ll definitely be back again thank you & will recommend to our family & friends.

    Jenny2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • This lodge is completely wonderful. Perfect for a winter get away, so cosy but also spacious with everything you need. They really have thought of everything. The location is incredible, just a few minutes walk to the beach and less then 10 mins drive to the town with a train station, supermarkets and all you would need. Martin, Medina and their team were amazing, such quick responses and brilliant to get to meet Martin when we were there. Can’t recommend this place enough, we can’t wait to come back!

    Anna2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful, homely lodge within walking distance of the beach. There are lots of lovely touches in the lodge which make it feel like a home away from home. Martin is a super host and kept us well informed throughout the process. Thanks Martin

    Sue2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely lodge in a great location by the beach. Clean and stylish house. We had a great short break. Caught mackerel in Mevagissey and crabbed in the rock pools. Eden Project on the doorstep too.

    Ben2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • Martin’s home is lovely and comfortable as well as bright and spacious. It has charming decor and was immaculately clean. The large dining table and kitchen with a dishwasher was great. There is parking for two which was handy for our group coming in separate cars. The host was quick to respond to messages and provided lots of details about the property/location in advance. Thanks Martin!

The perfect place to stay to recharge your batteries be it as a family with children or a group of adults.

  • Great house which is brilliantly clean, comfortable and smart. Excellent base for the local attractions of Eden and Heligan. Wi-Fi and Netflix service is a bonus and less than five minutes walk to the sea. With a teenager and a seven year old - everyone was happy! Dishwasher, washer dryer (with plenty of detergent supplies for both). We had everything we could have needed and I would highly recommend the house and it’s location.

  • This is an adorable little flat, the bed is very comfortable, and it’s a great place for exploring the local area. You’ll feel very warmly welcomed here! It’s quite chilly, the oil heaters work well but I’d recommend bringing slippers and a hot water bottle if you tend to get cold at night. There’s a very quirky cottage feel to the place, which is lovely.

    Emily2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in the Sweet Shop cottage for New Years Eve, for a country getaway. The house was so small and cosy with a kitchen, bathroom and bedroom upstairs. The house was decorated with local artwork and had a variety of leaflets about the local area, Chris also told us where to visit which was great. We were welcomed by Chris who explained how to work everything and left us a cream tea which was a lovely treat after our 2 hour drive down. The kitchen had the basics and there were supplies to make tea and coffee, oven, microwave, fridge, kettle ect. The bathroom had an amazing shower and the bedroom was spacious with a really comfy bed and TV for entertainment. The house had no central heating so the floor was really cold (take slippers!) but upstairs was fine. There were oil heaters on both levels to keep us warm. We walked down to Charlestown Harbour which was beautiful with the sea, rocks and fairy lights everywhere. It was the peaceful break we were looking for and I can't recommend Chris' house more!

    Brittany2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great communication, and easy check in. Chris provided scones, jam and cream, which was a lovely touch. Comfortable and self contained, parking space available, made it a great place for a short stay. Easy walking distance to Charlestown Harbour!

  • Lovely and quirky little place. Fab location for local shops/ pubs/ beach. It is on the road so a little noisy, but you can’t hear this from the bedroom. Great for 2 people. The cream tea was lovely - thank you! The parking was good, but wouldn’t recommend if you have a large vehicle/ 4x4. The hosts were super welcoming and friendly.

Penstrassoe 2 Within walking distance to Charlestown and easy access to the Eden Project, Heligan Gardens and many beautiful Cornish beaches, this room will provide you with a comfortable base to explore the wonders of Cornwall.
A double room with TV, Amazon Firestick, tea & coffee making facilities, newly refurbished private bathroom.

  • A wonderful cottage in a delightful, unique location. All furnishings and fabrics are of very good quality. Fully equipped, we lacked for nothing. Two reserved spaces in the nearby carpark were invaluable.

    Neil2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • Corner Cottage’s cliffside location on Portmellon Bay is simply perfect; it’s close enough to shops and restaurants in Mevagissey, but it’s also a peaceful haven away from it all by the sea. The charming fisherman’s cottage is well equipped, the beds are comfortable and the thick white towels are luxurious. Tom communicated well to any queries we had. We loved being lulled to sleep by the sound of the ocean...

  • An amazing location, close enough to walk in to Mevagissy. The local pub was very welcoming with good food. We were lucky with the weather and swam every day, could almost have been abroad if it wasn’t for the slight chill of getting into the water initially! My children did a bit of free diving and assured us that it was as beautiful under the water as above it. The coastal walking was great too, the Hidden Hut at Portscatho is worth a visit. We took kayaks and a paddle board so an outside tap would have been useful for washing them off but we appreciated water is probably metered and not all guests would use it sparingly. Thanks again, we would love to return

    Jane2019-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • The most perfect location for a holiday: spacious 3 storey cottage with large windows in every room looking directly onto the sea. Shops, pubs and coastal footpaths all in easy walking distance. Bliss.

  • We stayed in the Studio over Valentines weekend and we really loved our stay. The apartment is very clean, spotless in fact, and has everything we could have possibly needed. The weather was awful with storm Dennis so it was great that we had good wifi and tv when we wanted to escape the rain. The TV has Netflix so we could log in to watch what we wanted too. A lovely area of Cornwall to visit. Many places easily accessible. Nice all you can eat Chinese at the end of the road. Carlyon Bay is close and a very lovely place to visit. I would definitely recommend anyone to stay here, we will certainly stay again! It was a nice surprise to have a box of chocolates left for us too! Lovely hosts who always get back to us very quick. Perfect hosts! :)

  • Sharon is an amazing host and the cottage is a perfect getaway! The location is great for hikers and walkers. We did not have a car, but Sharon was very kind and picked us up/ dropped us off and the local bus was easy to use. Highly recommend for a weekend getaway from the city

    Kristina2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Sharon was such a gracious and welcoming host. The cottage is in a beautiful location and there is so much to do within the area. We were spoilt for choice. A great base to explore the local area from.

  • Such an amazing stay! I couldn't recommend this place highly enough. The cottage is beautiful, cozy and in a lovely location. We did some of the most beautiful and scenic walks I've done in the UK. It's a short walk from beaches, amazing coastline, lovely seaside villages and beautiful restored forests. You'll be spoilt for choice for what to do. Sharon was so helpful, and welcoming - even picking us up when we stayed out too late to walk home! She also made sure there was tea, coffee and some breakfast bits to make sure we had food for the next morning. Again, I only wish we'd had longer to stay and explore! Thanks Sharon!

    Annie2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Extremely friendly and helpful welcome and on-going help to make our stay the best it could be. We had a great break and it’s a wonderful base for exploring the area - Sharon even provided a sketch and description for getting to The Lost Gardens of Heligan on foot!

    Geoff2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was so lovely, compact but with everything you could need and the welcome food package was so handy- breakfast sorted! Great location handy for exploring Cornwall and a brilliant pub just around the corner. Would recommend.

    Alyce2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • I was running late, anxious from a stressful drive, and had trouble finding the place in the dark, but Sharon drove to meet me in the rain to show me and everything immediately became better! There was a fresh loaf of bread with jam, butter, milk, and eggs waiting for me. She was also super helpful with lots of maps and guidebooks of the area. The location was great as well. In addition to the numerous trails in the immediate perimeter, most destination attractions in Cornwall can be reached by car within an hour and a half. Overall this was a great experience and a very safe, welcoming environment for a solo female traveler. I wish I could’ve stayed longer!

    Rebecca2019-12-17T00:00:00Z
  • A great base for visiting all of Cornwall's sights and attractions such as the Eden Project, Tintagel, St. Ives. A very comfy and cosy cottage with all the amenities you could need as a couple. The host was very helpful and welcoming. Thank you for a lovely stay.

    Sarah2019-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • A great cosy pit-stop place for two with an excellent kitchen area that encourages you to not just eat out every night! If you're looking for super fast broadband, hour-long showers or a massive space to sprawl out in you might want to look elsewhere but it's perfect for laying your head down in warmth and comfort and getting set for the next day with a good breakfast you've rustled up before heading out into Cornwall.

For just two people, Connie's Cottage stands within 250 metres of Charlestown's famous harbour and beaches and of the South West Coast Path. Stone built and with many original beams and slate floors the cottage is very characterful but has been sympathetically modernised and includes gas fired central heating. There is non-restricted car parking available immediately to the rear of the cottage however in high season it may be necessary to park in the nearby pay car park.
To the front of the cottage is a grassed pedestrian way with a "his-n-hers" garden seat with views over the adjacent gardens and towards the neighbouring fields.
Charlestown is becoming well known for its excellent range of restaurants and two Inns whilst The Shipwreck and Heritage centre makes a fascinating visit. We are within a stones throw of the South West Coast Path and the Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan are both within a 15 minute drive as are the lovely seaside towns of Fowey and Mevagissey. The cottage is situated on a quiet grassy path but is close to the centre of the village and there is therefore the potential for late evening noise as customers leave the restaurants and inns.
  • I had such a lovely time at Connie cottage, sooooo cozy and warm, in a great location couldn't ask for much more :)

Situated on the costal path just outside Charlestown this cottage is a beautiful 15 minute walk into the historical Port of Charlestown where you can find local pubs and Georgian ships (as featured in Poldark.) If you are looking for peace and quiet, make use of the cottages private beach with access only for local residents. This double room has a private bathroom. Guests have use of the kitchen, lounge, outside seating area to the front of the cottage and secure off street parking.
Nearby places of interest are The Lost Gardens of Heligan, The Eden Project, Charlestown and Mevagissey. This part of Cornwall is fantastic and has so much to offer in the way of hidden beaches and fantastic food and I love to share these secret places with guests so they too can experience being a local. A car is essential for travel in Cornwall unless you are hiking, as there is limited public transport. Car hire is available in St Austell which is the nearest train station or at the airport for arrivals by plane into Newquay.
  • Carole is a lovely and caring host who goes out of her way to be friendly and accommodating. It was a very family stay and we felt very comfortable. The breakfast is very extensive and varied. The rooms were clean and well maintained. On the whole, a great host, we can highly recommend.

  • Carole is a marvellous host. Nothing was too much trouble and she made us feel so welcome in her home. The location is ideal for Charleston and the nearby beaches and the accommodation is delightful. We were allowed total occupancy of the main bathroom and use of the kitchen. Carol treated us like friends while giving us the space to be alone for breakfast etc. We would recommend her to any friends looking to visit the area and we'd certainly go back to stay with here again in future.

  • This AirBnB was very clean and is set in a beautiful location which is a ten minute walk away from a residential beach. Carole (the host) was very hospitable and made us feel very welcome, even offering us a lift to a hotel for a wedding we attended. She also provided breakfast in the morning, information about the surrounding area and a key to the house so we could come and go as we please. Carole was a lovely host and she gets a 5 star rating from us!

  • What a location, a real hidden gem, didn’t want to leave. Everything you possibly need, very comfortable bed, good shower and the most delicious welcome fruit cake. Take some good walking shoes and so many beautiful walks.

  • Beautiful location, a short walk into Mevagissy, Portmellon is an a very pretty little cove, nice walk round to Chapel Point. The Shack was wonderful for a healthy lunch option and we enjoyed a drink in the local pub, although the opening times were a little random. Chy Rani was so cute, perfect for the two of us and our little dog. Everything we wanted and more a fabulous break.

  • I had the best air bnb experience at Chy Rani. Everything was perfect and I even extended my stay. The cottage is perfectly laid out, even with baking awaiting me. Close to the coastal path and only a 15 min walk to lovely Mevagissey, I cannot recommend Chy Rani enough. Correspondence and care was excellent and I loved making my coffee and watching the sun rise in the morning. There was even a Christmas tree for me. Like another reviewer wrote, I’m currently working out when I can return. Beautiful spot for a serene retreat with gluten free bakery Teacup in Mevagissey and fab pubs when you need some coastal company. Thanks so much for a fabulous stay!

  • Fab views to die for, accommodation does what it says on the tin. Small but comfortable and everything you need. Lovely welcome touches from hosts. Great stay and highly recommended. You can get better quality accommodation at the same price; I suspect the view and excellent location is what you're paying the extra for!

  • Location: Chy Rani is perched right above the sea, on the edge of Portmellon cove. The beach and local pub are both a 1 minute walk away. It’s a 10 minute walk to Mevagissey which has lovely restaurants, great fish and chip shop and a beautiful harbour, plus a tackle shop. The rooms: The place was extremely well appointed and quiet, despite the sea being so close. It felt spacious and had incredible views across the water. We sat outside to eat breakfast in the sun most days! The kitchen had everything we needed. There wasn’t tons to do in the local area, we enjoyed the Lost Gardens of Heligon and walks on the coast path. Highly recommended.
