The Villa Askyfou is rustic and homely perched on a hill, virtually the last place on the road, with stunning views of the plateau. We were there in winter so the pool wasn't used but it looked fantastic (infinity type) from which you wold be able to look across the valley. The two supermarkets in the nearby village stock most of what is needed for a stay and there is a bakery too in the village. Jannis, the owner, is very obliging and helpful and can give lots of information as to what to see. The villa is on several levels each of which are accessible via stairs so if you have mobility problems then this isn't for you, other than that it is a really interesting home. Log fires if cold plus central heating make this a possible venue in early spring and autumn but obviously summer would be best. As the Villa is secluded it is essential to have a car to get there and to get to other places of interest. We were a family of 6 adults and a 1 year old and thoroughly enjoyed our stay notwithstanding that is was winter and the fire was on all the time.

We had a very nice stay at Frangokastello. Everything worked as planned. We rented one of their cars for a couple of days before arriving at the apartment and George came to the airport in Heraklion to deliver it. Once we arrived at at the apartment, first we were a bit surprised to see that it is situated inside a complex of holiday homes. But it actually turned out to be not a problem. There was enough space and quiet and it was nice to sit outside on the terrace and the balcony. And it was great to have the Papadakis family next door to immediately deal with any questions we had. The tower is exactly as shown on the pictures. It's very cosy and perfect for two people. The great beach is really very close and not too busy. The taverna is also just a few metres away and the view over the beach is amazing. We had two bikes at our disposal and that was very useful to go to the village, which is around 1.5 km away. For anything else, you need a car. Note that there are no working ATMs in this part of Crete and basically all tavernas need to be paid in cash, so make sure you get some cash in the bigger cities in the north. Overall, a great and very relaxing holiday. We definitely recommend the place.

We couldn't ask for better hosts! Nantia and Kostas raised our bars in terms of hospitality, kindness and generosity. The apartment is impeccable, great location for peace and quietness. Seating outside for the sunset with a drink quickly became an expected chilled moment after the tours. Highly recommended.
