  • A perfect place for a break away from it all. Beautiful location and still with everything you could need available at the property. Very thoughtful touches from Anita and Bruce that we really appreciated.

  • Great experience. Lovely personal touches of doggy treats being left out for our pooches. Easy check in and stress-free stay. Only 10 minutes drive into the lovely village of Stanhope!

  • If you want a quiet rural getaway, then this is the place. The surrounding areas make for some excellent walks if you wish to go off and explore. The accommodation was fantastic, quirky and clean. The bed was the most comfortable we've had whilst using an Airbnb and we couldn't hear a sound from the bedroom. Excellent value and we plan to return when the weather is better to some more exploring. Definitely 5 star

  • The Butterfly Cottage is the perfect place for a few nights away, with some nice walks nearby and lovely views. The bed is the comfiest thing I’ve ever slept on, it was like lying on marshmallows, and Anita and Bruce were very nice and extra helpful - we used their local guidebook to decide what we were doing throughout the day. Would definitely stay again if we were in the area.

    Ben2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed at Anita's and Bruce place for couple of nights. Unbelievably beautiful views and amazing cottage, most romantic place for couple I could ever imagine. My girlfriend was almost crying when we had to leave. Definitely coming back.

  • Very comfortable and cosy stay, garden is secure for dogs and hosts very friendly, lovely area.

    Morgan2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place to stay, very cosy with everything you could need. The cottage has amazing views, and we loved watching Anita and Bruce's dogs playing outside. Bruce was very helpful when it snowed the morning we were due to leave, dug our car out and advised us on the safest road to take to the main road. We will definitely be back in the better weather!

    Katherine2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was extremely cosy and clean, and provided a wonderful base for our trip to the Pennines. Lots of great walks nearby, and Anita and Bruce were available if we had any questions. Homemade bread on arrival was a lovely touch - would highly recommend to anyone looking for a nice, quiet retreat.

  • We had a lovely weekend at the cottage. The beds were really comfortable and the hot tub was well protected from the elements, even in early March. We had a lovely walk along the river and a trip into Stanhope for lunch. It's a really peaceful spot.

Cottage was beautifully furnished with everything you need, fresh flowers and processo on arrival was a really lovely touch. • Had a lovely few days at the cottage. Nicola was great and so welcoming. Lots nice touches, like fresh flower and bubbles on ice. The log fire on a cold winters day was amazing. Also spotlessly clean. Would recommend for couples looking for a romantic break.

    Rookhope, England, United Kingdom

This lovely stone-built miners cottage (dated circa 1823) is ideally located in the North Pennine village of Rookhope; a great base for exploring this beautiful part of the country. The terraced garden, with spectacular views, is the ideal place to sip a glass of wine and watch the sun set after a great day of hiking. There is a well-equipped kitchen/diner and a cosy sitting room with a warming multi-fuel stove. Make your way upstairs to two comfortable double bedrooms and a shower room.
The cottage has several 'rustic' features including an Aga, a multi-fuel stove, stone fire place and chimney breast and beams. The kitchen forms the hub of the house and is an ideal place for all guests to gather. The outside space gives stunning views that can be enjoyed in all weathers due to the summer house. The house is accessed by an unmade track that is well-maintained.
The village of Rookhope, which sits 1200 feet above sea level, has a very dog friendly pub and there is a small shop. Rookhope, an old lead mining village, is steeped in history, has an abundance of wildlife and is in a great location for connecting with a network of local attractions. Excellent fell walking can be had right from the doorstep or why not spend an afternoon walking an alpaca - Fellside Alpaca Experience is very close by. The beautiful Weardale Valley offers many fun activities: Killhope Lead Mining Museum, the Weardale Railway, Burnhope Reservoir Dark Sky Discovery Site, Low Barns Nature Reserve, fishing on the River Wear or Tunstall Reservoir, Slitt Wood and West Rigg Geotrail together with the picturesque villages of St John's Chapel, Stanhope and Wolsingham. Hamsterley Forest offers 2,000 hectares of mountian bike, horse riding or hiking trails and fabulous children's play areas and picnic sites. Try a fly fishing experience on Derwent Reservoir, visit The Lord Crewe Arms in Blanchland or a spot of golf and spa pampering at Slaley Hall. Further afield, but still ideal for a day out, visit the beautiful AONB Northumbrian Coast, Kielder Reservoir and Forest, Hadrian's Wall or the Lake District. If city life is what you hanker for then both Durham (with its amazing castle and Cathedral) or Newcastle (with great shopping) are easily accessible for a day out.
  • A well presented, clean, fully equipped property with the most luxurious views. I'll keep my review short as possible so you can enjoy your own experience. A stunning example of a small village with the very basics of a quiet place to enjoy your time. There's a quiet pub and a post office that opens for 2 hours in the morning only. Other than the occasional car driver passing through the village every other hour, you can hear a pin drop. The area is riddled with guided walks of some of the most stunning views of falls and valleys. Local town Stanhope is about 10-15 mins drive away. The hosts Paul and Grace have been great with communication and the fact that the property was fully prepared for our arrival, they certainly had our stay at the forefront of there agenda. Again I'll not go into the detail that I could but its been so refreshing and an absolute pleasure to have been able to stay here, and we will definitely be looking for a future stay. Again Thanks very much Paul and Grace.

  • Fantastic host, great hospitality. The cottage was really comfortable and it felt really special inside, having retained lots of its period features. It took us a while to get used to cooking in the AGA or warming up the house with a coal burner, but in the end it all was part of the experience and made us feel like we had spent a few days somewhere truly special, with lots of history. The views from the living room and main bedroom were outstanding, and the garden at night was an ideal place for stargazing (clear skies almost every day!). Bear in mind there will be no phone signal unless you are on EE network, however the WiFi connection was flawless.

    Hector2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing property with spectacular views across the moor from both living room and bedroom. We used the garden / garden room on the hot days and enjoyed watching the rain come across the moor in comfort next to a cosy wood fire on the rainy day! The cottage is very comfortable has all amenities required and we loved cooking with the AGA. The village pub was very friendly and welcoming - the Friday Quiz was fun. Weardale is a beautiful place and great for hiking which we did in the local villages and from the property. A brilliant property!

My place is in beautiful Weardale, County Durham, close to The River Wear, the Weardale Way, walks, hill climbs. You’ll love my place because of the cosiness, the views, the location, the open fire..
7 Front Street is a traditional stonebuilt Weardale cottage, one of a small row of cottages in the hamlet of Daddry Shield near Stanhope in the Durham Dales. The cottage comfortably sleeps 4 and affords peaceful rural holidays to couples and small families. The cottage is pet and child friendly and is warm and welcoming with a sitting room with open fire and a kitchen with dining area to the ground floor and a family bathroom with two bedrooms to the first floor: a master bedroom with double bed and a second bedroom with two singles.
The cottage has outstanding views of Weardale, 'The Undiscovered Dale', from every window and is just a short walk from the river Wear and the Weardale Way. The cottage is equipped with all standard modern conveniences including microwave, fan assisted oven, washer dryer, TV with integral DVD and Freeview, Now TV and WIFI and a selection of board games. The cottage is just a short walk from the Weardale villages of St Johns Chapel and Westgate, both of which can offer pubs, shops, a cafe and children's play areas as well as numerous footpaths for ramblers and hillwalkers. Further afield are the historic country towns of Bishop Aukland, Barnard Castle, Hexham and Durham itself.
  • This is a great little terrace house in a wonderful location to get away from it all. Beautiful countryside, plenty of places to go for walks and close to some beautiful historic towns and cities. Sarah was a great host, with quick responses and some great local eating suggestions. Want to go back soon.

    Chris2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • We stay at Sarah’s place quite often to visit family and we love how cosy it is. It’s got everything we need.

    Jojo2019-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a wonderful time at this cottage. Everything was just perfect. The host lady had left a bottle of wine for us, which made feel back home. It was great fun feeding the horse with apples through the kitchen window. We can deeply recommend this cottage to anybody who likest the peace and quiet of an old cottage within a breathtaking landscape.

    Stephan2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is an absolute gem of a cottage. It was super clean and cosy, very quiet and relaxing and in the perfect location for exploring the area; we absolutely loved it.

    Sean2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • A very comfortable place where you can cook like at home, with extra plaids on armchairs and bed to feel cosy.

    Claude2019-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • Sarah's cottage was a wonderful and cosy retreat. Our visit was in July so we couldn't justify lighting the open fire, but if we had, we might have struggled to leave! Sarah left us a lovely bottle of wine and our stay was just perfect in every way. We loved the horses visiting us at the back window and watching the sheep from the front! Viewing the rolling hills from the lounge window made watching the TV a second choice! A lovely stay, thank you so much Sarah!

    Amanda2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • We spent the week at Sarah's place and had a great time. It's a lovely house in a fabulous location with plenty of walks along the river and hills surrounding the house or you can take a short drive to visit other attractions such as Low Force, High Force and Cauldrons Snout to name just a few. I would definitely recommend staying here.

    Bow2019-06-03T00:00:00Z
  • You will not be disappointed, the cottage and location are absolutely heaven, brilliant central location, beautiful village, a truly outstanding cottage and host.

  • This is one of the best Airbnb stats we’ve had in a long run of successes. The cottage is cozy, well supplied, clean and stylishly decorated. The location is great for getting out and about in the Pennines and for driving fans there are some terrific roads nearby! Check in was easy, communication was great and Kay is a considerate and flexible host. We will definitely be staying again soon!

  • Kay's is a top host ! The cottage is beautiful clean and so cosy. We loved our stay here. The children especially loved the snooker table and darts board. Kay has thought of everything to make a stay here so enjoyable with extra little touches like the fire wood and a very well equipt kitchen , fluffy towels and toiletries. We had no issues at all and will be booking again in future.

  • An ideal little cottage in the heart of Weardale. Excellent location for walking and exploring the area. The house is decorated and kitted out to a very high standard, you don't need to take anything with you, a real home from home.

  • Lovely spot to stay in north pennines with a dog. Beautiful walk at Slit Woods. Bedrooms were good sizes and equally nice! Plenty of hot water. Logs very kindly supplied and we also topped them up a wee bit from co-op as it was a chilly minus two outside (electric radiators worked well if we had wanted to use them though so this was our choice to need logs).

  • Tessa & David are lovely hosts. Their little touches all over the accommodation make this wonderful barn even nicer. We had a great, relaxing weekend there and will definitely be back.

  • We had a lovely weekend. Tessa was really helpful with recommendations of places to eat and the best way to go and see high force. We had a lovely day out and then spend an evening in front of the fire which was absolutely perfect. The barn was absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for the wonderful stay.

    Jessica2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • I booked Tessa’s place as a special treat for my friends birthday and it was everything we hoped it would be. Tessa was an excellent host and the accommodation was amazing. It was clean and cosy, there was lovely little finishing touches that made it all feel so personal and welcoming. I only wish we could’ve stayed for longer. The location is great with so much to do and see especially the high force waterfalls and the Strathmore Arms, just a little car ride away. Definitely hoping to visit again, maybe this time in the summer!

    Sarah2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Take a bow Tessa! Our stay was nothing but awesome =) Whether we were out on a beautiful stroll right from the doorstep or sat all cosy indoor playing scrabble by the fire, we felt relaxed and super happy in the barn house. It was wonderful meeting Tessa and she made us feel right at home. Tessa has set up an amazing property full of character and provides everything you need. Any issues or can't decide what to do, Tessa is ready to help. Me and Laura are already planning when to go in the summer and we just left today. We can't wait to visit all the local pubs and try the local ciders! Not to mention any names... but all of them! See you soon Mickleton!

  • A lovely clean and cosy place to stay. Tessa was a great host, made us feel welcome and shared great tips on the area. Even though we stayed during a storm we were able to stay cosy and warm in front of the wood burner.

    Sarah2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Tessa was great with communication. The actual barn was much more spacious and larger than it looks in photos. Such a homely feel as soon as you walk in with a fire ready to light and tea selections. Tessa made the effort of giving special little touches for our Valentine’s night away with chocolates and heart lights in the bedroom. Everything was immaculate an cosy and Tessa had made many great recommendations for the local area including a delicious meal at the crown. 5 star stay, couldn’t have been better and we will definitely be returning! Thank you Tessa!

Our beautiful cottage is situated in a quiet courtyard mews, through a narrow archway of The Teesdale Hotel. When you walk through the door, the cottage has a wonderful, cosy, feel. It has been tastefully decorated with an open plan living area, vaulted ceiling and a wood burning stove. The kitchen is fully equipped with fridge freezer, oven, electric hob and microwave. Barrington Bunkhouse started life nearly 200 years ago, as the village school, then as a village hall. We are right next door to the Rookhope Inn, which serves wonderful homemade food, and we are right on the Coast to Coast Cycle route. Rookhope is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and boasts many places to walk, and cycle, or if just need a countryside escape! Please note: We have 6 bunk beds (12 beds) but the options only went up to 5! It is £24 Per person, per night.
The bunkhouse building has entered phase 4 of its life, it started off as a school, Bishop Barrington won a substantial amount of money when he took the mine owners to court, and with that money he built a few schools around the area, they were called Barrington Schools, and this one was built and opened in 1820. In 1876 the present school was built, and this building then became the village hall, otherwise known as The Barrington Hall. In 1960 a new village hall was built and “The Barrington” became redundant, and fell into disrepair. In due course, the building became known as Barrington Cottage. The cottage hit hard times around 1993 and was empty for about a year, then we came along, fell in love with it, bought it and lovingly renovated it, and the far end of the building became our lounge, we have had some fun times in that lounge, when my daughter was growing up ….. mega-sleepovers etc., but …. It has changed again, we are very sociable people, we needed to diversify and thought a bunkhouse would be a grand idea!! So ….. enter phase 4 …. The Barrington Bunkhouse!
Rookhope in Weardale is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, in the North Penines. It is an old lead mining village, and there's an open air lead mining museum (not far away by car) up at Kilhope. The pub next door to the bunkhouse (The Rookhope Inn) Serves wonderful food, and has a reputation for making people feel at home. As you walk around the village, there's still some hidden traces of its industrial past. We have lots of footpaths and trails around the area, so whether you're looking for a gentle stroll, or a proper hike, there's something for all levels. oh...and look out for pieces of Frosterly Marble by the river!
  • Perfect location for the C2C cycle and great value. It was brilliant to have breakfast supplies and a pub next door and it was lovely and quiet.

Cosy and spacious home in detached rural location with sunroom looking out over stunning views of the North Pennines, a UNESCO Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Newfield is the perfect place for anyone seeking a comfortable rural escape. Remote but not cut off, Newfield is near attractions including museums, heritage railways, waterfalls, and cafes, and just an hour from Newcastle with its thriving Quayside.
Soak up the ever-changing views of the North Pennines Landscape from the sun room, or switch off the lights and see more stars than you've ever seen before in the night sky (weather permitting!) Alongside your patio there is also access to a shared garden with beautiful views for relaxation, or a place for a four-legged friend to stretch their legs.
A warm and cosy stay awaits at Newfield, a self-catering AirBnB set in the side of Sedling Fell. Newfield is very close to the spot where County Durham, Northumberland, and Cumbria meet, each with their own distinctive traditions and appeal. Nearby attractions include the Killhope Lead Mining Centre, the charming and historic small towns of Stanhope and Alston (including the South Tynedale Steam Railway), and breathtaking waterfalls including High Force (30 minutes drive) and Ashgill Force (20 minutes drive). The surrounding landscape inspired many of the writings of W H Auden, who called this UNESCO Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty "England's Last Wilderness". Most evidence of our rich mining heritage has now been reclaimed by nature, but old chimneys and mills can still be seen. The area is popular with: - Bird watchers (including the rare black grouse and distinctive curlew) - Stargazers (we have some of the darkest skies in the UK, and are a designated dark sky discovery site) - Cyclists (we are on the 'Weardale Option' of the C2C cycle route) - Motorcyclists (winding roads with beautiful views) - Walkers (many local routes with varying terrains) - Writers (the silence around Newfield is incredible) - Anyone looking for a rural escape with attractions just a short drive away if needed
  • We had a fantastic stay at Newfield. The house is nice and remote, just what we where looking for. Amazing location and views from the property. Lovely house with everything you would need for a comfortable stay. Dew and Robin stayed in contact before our stay about weather etc which was very helpful. We would definitely return. Many thanks

  • This is a beautiful home set in a stunning location! I highly recommend! We happened to be here throughout Storm Dennis and couldn't have been more snug and cosy. Stylish and modern with the incredible views from all windows, very comfy beds and lovely touches. We will be back!!

  • A beautiful cottage in a stunning location. It has been decorated to a really high quality. We felt at home straight away. Lovely touch to have a few basics left for us in the kitchen. The fire makes it feel very cosy inside, and especially as we stayed in the middle of winter. We went for a lovely walk without needing to drive anywhere. Great countryside to explore. I would recommend this to anyone.

    Andrew2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • A big warm house with great view. I wish to stay for more days. Everything is great!

    Alex2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • This is a fantastic cottage, I fell in love with it the moment we stepped inside. It’s beautifully furnished and everything is of great quality, especially the very comfy bed! The views are amazing. I was a bit worried it would be chilly and also that it might smell of dog, given how many dog owners seem to go, but you would never know. The heating was adequate but there are loads of extra heaters around if you need them. It’s great for kids, plenty of space and the sun room is perfect for grown up chill out time when they’re in bed! We’ll be back!

    Zoe2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent stay. This place is lovely, cosy inside with amazing views and location. Great for dogs and humans to relax. The walk to and round the nearby reservoir was brilliant.

  • This place is absolutely flawless. We had high expectations but the cottage surpassed even those. Drew and Robin thought of everything. There were so many thoughtful touches. They answered all our queries very quickly and gave excellent advice on local walks and activities. The view from the cottage is worth mentioning on its own because it's perfect.

  • A spacious secluded quiet getaway with a generous and vivacious host. A perfect base for walks or cycling on the moors or surrounding countryside. Julie was a great host anticipating our needs - whether it was wood for the fire or emergency lanterns when the electricity briefly failed during a storm! The cottage is much larger than the typical one bedroom cottage with fast Wifi (for a rural location), a well equipped kitchen and welcome treats of fresh homemade bread, brownies, eggs and milk for our stay.

    Steven2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful space, with stunning views and great walks. Julie the host made us feel really welcome (including our dog). The thing I would note is, the location is quite remote- but perfect if you want to be away from everything.

    Kevin2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely place with a brilliant hostess!

    Christina2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Julie was a fantastic host with super quick responses! She went the extra mile leaving fresh farm eggs, home baked bread and brownies for our arrival. This place is a perfect get-away, we spent 2 nights with very little reason to leave the stunning fireside and cozy living room! The quality of the whole stay was superb! Only a 15 min drive to Hexham or Corbridge for authentic farmers markets and any essentials you may need. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to decompress or unwind!

    Paul2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Julie is just the perfect host ever. She went beyond the higher expectations of an airbnb host, with the cooking she did for us, it was like a dream! Thank you again! I, of course, recommend this airbnb 200%!

    Eva2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • A terrific place to stay! My wife and I arrived in the dark and pouring rain one Friday night. Julie came out to meet us and show us around the stylish apartment. Julie had lit the log fire stove, made us fresh brownies and brought us a freshly-baked loaf of bread shortly after we'd settled in. Marvellous hosting. The place itself is very well appointed and was sparkle-clean. We only stayed the one night as a stopover and arrived and departed in the dark and rain - so we can't comment on what are probably tremendous rural views from Julie's place. All in all, we were very happy with our stay and would readily highly recommend Julie's place.

    Mark2019-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our stay here, exactly as described - a beautiful, quiet cottage with everything you need for a little escape in the countryside! Being able to bring our dog was perfect for us as well. It's pretty remote so you'll need a car but the directions we received were perfect and we had no issues finding it. Julie was prompt and really helpful with communication without, we also met her a couple of times, she is lovely and her hospitality is second to none!

    Alicia2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • We were very impressed by Julie's hospitality, and the standard of her accommodation. If you like to stay off the beaten track, in a private upland area of outstanding natural beauty, you will not be disappointed. The kitchen was spacious, modern and fitted to a very high standard offering lots of counter space to prepare food. We especially liked the bathroom, which featured a large Jacuzzi bath/shower unit - plenty of room for two! The living room featured a large corner unit which converted into a comfortable double bed. There is also a wood burner, which we greatly appreciated (the accommodation is also centrally heated throughout). The main bedroom was fitted with modern light oak furniture, the bed being comfortable and solid, fitted with high quality pillows, sheets and duvet. We especially liked the soft, deep pile carpet. Well done, Julie!

  • We had a fantastic stay at Neils place, the pods are spacious yet cosy at the same time and provide a perfect getaway with amazing views of the countryside. Neil was a great host, very friendly and helpful. Thanks very much!!

  • A beautiful cabin with a wonderful view. We had the most relaxing stay, the pod was sparkling clean and beautifully designed, the log burner was cosy and the decking and hot tub is lovely and private. Our host Sue even got in touch to say we could stay longer than the usual check out to shelter from the miserable weather! We will definitely book again.

  • Just had three amazing nights in the countryman... it did not disappoint! Fantastic views, perfectly private hot tub and deck area. The pods are beautifully furnished with homely touches. Brilliant location for exploring the local areas such as Kielder park and hadrians wall!! We will definitely visit again

  • Beautiful location and accommodation with friendly hosts. Loved getting out the city and into the middle of the country and the hot tub was a great wee bonus even in the middle of a storm! Hosts were so accommodating of our toddler and dog, providing a cot and high chair and making us all feel very welcome. Would definitely recommend!

  • This was truly one of our most memorable and amazing weekend breaks, one that won't be forgotten. Neil, thank you so so much for the hospitality you was amazing. We will definitely be back again soon. Can't speak highly enough about the experience. We will definitely be recommending you to others. Only thing I would say is the pictures you have online for the pods and the surrounding area do not do it justice at all. The pods are stunning, brilliantly designed and built and the perfect size. You truly feel like you're the only people there. And even though all the pods were occupied we didn't hear or see anyone else. Secluded and truly beautiful. Can't wait to come back

  • Four bedroomed cottage with one bathroom and a downstairs toilet on a farm down a short track (untarmacked). Kitchen / diner is very well equipped. Lovely views from all bedrooms. We used as a base to walk a section of the Pennine way. Cottage is approx 2 miles out of Middleton in Teesdale which has a Co-op, corner shop, pharmacy, iron mongers, fish and chip shop, pizza takeaway, pubs and cafes. Highly recommend the Teespot cafe for breakfast or coffee and cake! Cafe is dog friendly. Host lives next door if you need anything. Host was very quick to reply to my messages and very helpful.

The surrounding area is great for walkers and you can get away from the crowds, visiting High Force, the most spectacular waterfall in England or walk the Weardale Way which goes through the village. The cottage has all the comforts of home.
Weardale Cottage is really well appointed with all the comforts of home. We have two bedrooms each with super king size beds, which can be converted to twin beds if preferred. Both bedrooms are spacious with walk in wardrobes. The bathroom has a roll top bath and separate shower. Downstairs we have a comfortable lounge with a cosy wood burner. Outside we have two secure sheds, perfect if you need to bring your bikes. The TV has Freesat as well as on demand channels such as I player and Netflix. Weardale is a wonderful area which is quiet and undiscovered. There is plenty to do in the area being ideally situated for Hadrian's Wall, the Lake District and Durham. The natural environment has thriving bird life including black grouse, curlew and lapwing and red squirrel thrive. Rare plants such as the spring gentian are found nowhere else in England. High Force is close by, the most spectacular waterfall in England. The charming market towns of Alston and Middleton in Teesdale are nearby. Long distance walking paths including the Pennine Way, Pennine Journey and the Weardale Way are all close by. You cannot fail to be charmed by the area and I am sure you will love it!
Upper Weardale is a wonderful area, unspoilt and wild. Some of the most spectacular scenery is on your doorstep and walking, fishing and cycling opportunity abounds. The cottage is on the C2C cycling route. The River Wear is one of the best salmon and sea trout rivers in England. Wildlife thrives in the area and there are plenty of cosy pubs and tea rooms. High and Low Force waterfalls are nearby and Killhope Lead Mine is the best preserved in England. RSPB Geltsdale is nearby as is Alston, England's highest market town. There is also the Weardale Railway which runs throughout the Summer and also puts on Christmas Specials. Raby Castle is also nearby. If you like getting away from it all, Weardale is the ideal destination for a relaxing and invigorating break.
  • Fiona and Martin's place is wonderful. We received a lovely welcome basket with homemade brownies, plus a home that caters for everything we could need for a winter getaway. It's perfectly located to absorb everything the North Pennines has to offer, and isn't far from Durham and Newcastle if you want a day out. The Blue Bell Inn a couple of doors down is great and a co-op just up the road should you need anything. Would highly recommend. Fiona and Martin are really attentive hosts and made the experience seamless.

    Tom2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely stay at the gorgeous weardale cottage in a beautiful area, communication from Fiona was excellent and there were masses of local maps and walking books in the cottage which was perfect for us

  • A very beautiful home in the heart of Weardale, beautiful countryside and a great place to relax

    Maxine2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at the cottage was perfect, relaxing from the minute we walked through the door. Booking/communication quick and easy, Fiona was on hand to answer a call for our check in. The cottage has beautiful decor, is cosy and quirky with huge, extremely comfy beds and sofa. It was well equipped to stay in and cook and chill out watching tv or reading a book on an evening. It had been cleaned to an extremely high standard. The local area is stunning, a wilderness perfect to explore with the dog, but we loved the fact the the pub is a few doors away and the well stocked village shop just over the road. Anyone who hasn’t stayed in wonderful Weardale I would encourage you to book and do so, it’s a hidden gem of a place, close enough to visit Durham City, the Lakes, Northumberland, but has so much of its own beauty and relaxed pace of life to offer. Thank you, we hope to visit again!

  • We stayed for 3 nights between Christmas and New Year and we absolutely loved Fiona's cottage. Cottage was sparkling clean, every detail thought, very well stocked, had everything you would need for family stay. Cottage even had Christmas decorations and lovely Christmas Tree which was very nice touch. Area itself good for walks with dog, has Co-Op stocked with essential bits. Overall very good place to stay and I hope we will be back sometime in summer.

  • Martin and Fiona's cottage was absolutely adorable! The immaculate cottage has the cosy country cottage feel but is very spacious at the same time. It is perfectly equipped so you won't miss home for anything. There are a lot of information about the area so even if you didn't do any research you will be able to find plenty to do. Martin and Fiona are very thoughtful and responsive which makes the stay so comfortable and pleasant. The local people are very friendly as well and the whole area is just stunning (Even in winter!!). I cannot recommend enough!

    Ella2019-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay in the cottage. It was beautifully decorated and immaculately clean. There are great walks from the cottage, and Fiona and Martin made us feel very welcome. I would recommend the cottage to anyone!

  • A very well made and insulated shepherds hut with a stylish interior. Even in Storm Dennis we felt warm & cosy. A lovely little get away in the countryside and andrew made us very welcome. He even let us feed the sheep and see his workshop where he builds his Shepherd Huts.

    Clare2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, small and compact but has everything you need. Great host and even let my boy hand feed the sheep. We stayed during the last storm, was still nice and warm. Defo recommend, and we’ll more than likely re visit.

    Samantha2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Little Blue Hut was a fantastic get away, Andrew was brilliant left us to have our own space but was there to help when we needed it. He let us check out later on the Sunday as he had no one else arriving and there was a bad storm which was really nice of him. The Hut is really well designed myself my partner and our dog Bodhi enjoyed every minute of our stay. Definitely recommend staying here.

  • We had a great weekend at Kim's place. The space looks exactly like it is in pictures, and is perfect for two people. Kim was a great host and sent us a guide to the property before arrival - which got me very excited for the trip! We recommend putting the fire on if you are visiting in the colder months, although the property has underfloor heating which is great. The picturesque village of Blanchland is nearby and well worth a visit.

    Serena2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful location. Very peaceful. Within easy reach of all the major attractions the area has to offer. The space was sparkling clean. Our host Kim was extremely helpful. Could not have asked for a better experience. Would recommend to all.

  • We only met Jim,and he was very informative about the property, it was a lovely place to stay, in a private setting with fantastic views, and I would certainly recommend to others, and return again myself.

  • Thank you so much Robyn & Jim for being fantastic hosts. We really enjoyed our stay at the stargazing cabin and were extremely lucky with the weather and clear nights. What a wonderful spot you have and the Cabin was beautiful with everything we needed.

    Rebecca2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cabin. Jim was ready and waiting for our arrival with a torch which was great as it was pitch black when we arrived! He showed us the cabin and gave instructions on how to use the pellet burner. The beds were comfy and there were loads of nice little touches like tea, coffee, milk , sugar and even biscuits, lots of snuggly throws to cosy up with and hot water bottles for everyone. All very clean, would thoroughly recommend this place to others.

  • The photos of this listing don’t do it justice. It’s a really well put together cabin, warm and cosy and well kitted out to a high standard throughout. I was there for a solo retreat - I’m not sure how I would have found it with the full 5-person capacity (!) - but for me it was a perfect, peaceful and comfy place to unwind. Jim and Robyn were warm and friendly and there as I needed them, but left me to myself the rest of the time. I’d definitely recommend and intend to go back for more time out myself. 😊

    Kiz2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you so much for a lovely break. Robyn and Jim were fantastic hosts. The cabin is absolutely delightful, we thought it was ideal for our romantic getaway. We went to the local pub, which was cute and had a real family feel about it. Had dinner one night at a Greek in Hexham town, there was a card on the wall in the cabin and it was fantastic would highly recommend. Went to hadrians homesteads which was a beautiful day out. Overall I loved our stay. The cabin was so warm and cozy, that heater blows out alot of heat!! So don't be put off going in colder weather!! Comfy bed, amazing pressure on the shower, tea, coffee and milk all provided which were lovely touches. The views are breathtaking, no words could describe how truly beautiful the landscape is. Thank you again, we look forward to coming back one day.

  • We had a wonderful stay at Woodland Cottage. It was so comfortable and we looked forward to spending cosy evenings inside after long days exploring the area. It had everything we needed and so many extra special touches. Cliff was kind enough to allow a late check in and even though we ended up arriving later than planned due to holiday traffic there were no issues. Would recommend, would stay again in a heartbeat!

  • The Glass House is spectacular! It’s a cosy, beautiful space. The location is pretty epic and quite secluded. It is a little off the beaten track - that’s why we chose it. Some of the local roads in winter aren’t the best. We visited at the end of February in a small car, after three consecutive storms but we did find a route there that was easy enough. It’s well worth fully reading Julia’s directions to figure the best route for you to take. The underfloor heating keeps the place cosy even without the log burner. There are great local walks. Plenty of things to keep you busy in Allendale (1.5hr walk) and Hadrians Wall is just a short drive away. Julia is great, her farm is lovely - fully recommend and would happily visit again!

    Nick2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great location. First time away with our dog who also had a good time. Lots of good walks, short car journey to Allendale where pubs serve good food and even better pints.

    Lewis2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely funky little place, beautiful scenery, was a shame we had rain! There are chickens roaming about outside of the house and sheep in the fields nearby. Julia and her husband were so friendly and welcoming and have local recommendations. The place is very cosy with a huge log fire, we had a lovely time ☺️

    Rebecca2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Glass House is a stunning space I a stunning landscape. Perfect escape to the country with our black lab who loved the countless walks from the front door. Highly recommend and hope to be back one day!

  • We went away for a couple of nights and it was great. A cute little barn with everything we needed. And very very cosy. Enjoyed the fact that there was no WiFi and poor signal, made us appreciate the time together more and the lush views rather than being distracted. Very muddy in the wet as you'd expect but didn't let it put us off. Some lovely walks to be had.

    Aaron2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing space! Beautifully furnished and heated floor was lovely on a cold, wet evening.

    Liam2020-01-29T00:00:00Z

    Alanna2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • Had the most amazing stay. So tranquil and secluded. The house is so impressive, spotlessly clean and comfortable. Anything you need - it’s there. We used the log burner and the underfloor heating made it so warm and cosy on a windy, winters night. The whole place is just really special. 10 minutes in the car to nice little pubs and great food at the golden lion in Allendale. Julia is so quick to respond and leaves you to your own devices but you know she’s around should you need anything. A really unique place and beautiful surroundings. Can imagine it’s gorgeous in summer with the BBQ and lovely little garden. Thank you Julia!!!

  • Can’t say thanks enough for our lovely stay! The pods were out of this world the photos on Airbnb don’t do them justice they are huge in person and every little detail is so perfect! Neil looked after us so much and kept in communication with us throughout our stay to ensure we had the best experience! Also it was my 21st celebrations and they went out of their way to decorate the inside for us coming which was so lovely! We are coming back in the summer with more friends for sure! ❤️ Thanks very much!

Great location situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Walks and cycling on the doorstep. Leisure facilities 1/2 mile away. Pub/ shops / restaurants 2 miles. Quarry Cottage is ideal for two adults ( no children ) visiting Northumberland and Durham. One small pet welcome. Please note....We also have the Barn next door, new for 2018. Property reference..... "Quarry Barn is a Luxury Barn Conversion" great views and super location. Both Cottage and Barn are just inside Northumberland.
Our cottage is detached from the main residence. One small well behaved dog welcome. Not suitable for infants only two adults. No WiFi through modem but 3g and 4g work well on your phone. The stairs are steep but manageable.
360 degree views overlooking beautiful country side.
  • The cottage is wonderful - gorgeously quaint and quirky with a beautiful and elegant mezzanine bedroom, cosy and comfy lounge area, well equipped, new kitchen and shower room. We had a delightful stay. The addition of wireless internet would make it perfect!

  • This is the first time staying here and we couldn’t of asked for anything better. Michael was very warm welcoming and gave plenty of information on where we could go to visit. The cottage itself was sparkling clean and the log burner was a brilliant extra. Would definitely recommend to friends and family. Thank you for a brilliant weekend

  • A lovely hideaway in the countryside. The wood burner was fantastic after returning home from a walk in a blizzard! Very nicely furnished and a lovely cosy cottage feel about it. Top Tip: Take slippers. The floors can be cold on your feet in winter.

    Ben2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Michael was very welcoming, he provided us with lots of recommendations regarding where to walk / eat and drink. Cannot fault the cleanliness of the cottage. Perfect location just off of the A68 with plenty to do in the surrounding area. You won't be dissapointed.

    Joshua2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Just home from a two night stay with my friend. Despite the weather we’ve had a lovely couple of days in the cottage; the log burner and alpacas were a particular highlight for us! Hope to come back 😊

    Ashley2020-02-18T00:00:00Z

  • Much better than the pictures, beautiful views, lovely cottage with traditional ornaments, however, the most impressive thing is the hospitality of the owner. We arrived in the evening after a long journey, so very touched seeing the homemade quiche, bread and several eggs on the table for us! Besides, the lovely couple gave us many good suggestions about the local sites and events. Highly recommend this wonderful cottage to spend your holidays in.
