Places to stay in Skelwith Bridge
The Den is a unique space within the Lake District - a Scandinavian style BBQ cabin. A large BBQ pit in the centre to sit around provides a cosy relaxing evening space, and a place to cook! WiFi, Fridge, Microwave, Kettle & Nespresso. Bedding provided, and a heated blanket! 8 minutes by car to Windermere, 5 minutes to Kendal. Easy access to a bus stop and cycle lane. Dales Way very close by. A camping-type toilet and sink (hot & cold water) next to the cabin. Dogs welcome £5/night extra.
Set in 2/3rds of an acre of beautiful gardens with private countryside views. Off street private and secure parking is provided. Toilet is located next to The Den in a separate shed. The sink has running hot & cold drinking water. Please note there are not shower facilities, but the sink with running water is suitable for taking a daily wash.
We are about half way between Kendal and Windermere. The main cycle lane into the Lake District is directly across the road, as is the Dales Way walking path. The Den is in a semi-rural setting with views to the surrounding countryside. For clarity's sake, during busy rush hours there is some traffic noise from the road, but evenings and nights are typically quiet. Please note that we are not the Windermere Camping Site, despite the AirBnB map showing it close by!
  • Very accommodating. We really enjoyed our stay here. It made our trip to the Lakes that extra bit special. Thank you for the recommendations Yassmine for where to go we enjoyed everything that you suggested. The room and facilities were fantastic. We were also very pleasantly surprised to meet the Shetland Ponies and Gusto! I highly recommend!

  • Great place.

  • The Den is a beautiful made space and holds the most relaxing atmosphere. Matt and Yassmine have thought of everything, providing guests with charcoal, WiFi, tea and coffee, etc. They are also such friendly and responsive hosts! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the den and would recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable, quirky place (the bbq is an amazing feature). Thank you both!

  • Booked for Xmas present for my girlfriend and what a great choice I made. The hut was absolutely stunning from the moment we arrived. Location is also accessible from a number of viewpoints and amenities. The fire pit is a lovely touch where we made dinner. Shetland pony’s were a nice little surprise too. The hit was slightly cold, however to be expected in Feb. Highly recommend staying in this beautiful hut and we will be back!

    Joshua2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lot of fun, even in winter. Just be sure to bring enough coal if it's cold and rainy to use not only for the bbq but also to keep warm. The heated blanket is a great idea. The room was spotless and very well organised. Bbqing inside works amazing! We had some perfectly cooked steaks. The toilet (no shower) is outside of the cabin, in rainy/snowy weather it's less then ideal. But this is communicated in the ad so not a complaint, just a heads up for people checking this location out.

    Twan2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect space and lovely family thank you for a lovely weekend 😃 Woke up on r last day to snow and the two ponies waiting to say hi in the morning great addition

  • Fabulous hut! We had such a wonderful time and the hosts are just as amazing. Travelling all the way from London was definitely worth the stay and would recommend to anyone. The electric blanket and fire were an absolute savour.

Character cottage in the heart of Bowness. Walking distance from all amenities , yet set back in a private location behind trees. With parking and lovely garden this is the perfect place to explore the beautiful surroundings.
FOXGLOVE COTTAGE IN WINDERMERE LAKE DISTRICT Foxglove Cottage lies in Bowness, one of the Lake Districts most popular villages, with its many shops, inns, cafes and restaurants leading down to the beautiful lake Windermere. Foxglove cottage is the perfect place to enjoy the outstanding natural beauty and to walk to local restaurants for a spot of dinner and maybe glass of wine or two. The end property of three traditional lakeland cottages, Foxglove Cottage is a short walk from Bowness village and bay and yet remains private, hidden behind trees and shrubs. A shared drive leads up to the cottages and Foxglove is on the far end with lovely private garden to the rear. The side entrance leads into the well equipped kitchen/dining room. A single step leads up to the oak beamed sitting room. The room has comfy sofa and arm chairs, and , of course , the obligatory log burning stove. A most comfortable and cosy place to relax after a long walk in the beautiful surrounding area. A narrow staircase leads to the upstairs floor, on the landing is the first bathroom with bath and overhead shower. A few more steps lead onto the main landing off which there are two bedrooms, one the master double, with en-suite whirlpool bath and overhead shower, the second a pretty twin bedroom. At the rear of the cottage there is a lovely private garden, surrounded by shrubs and trees. there is a dining area where you can perhaps have a barbecue and enjoy a glass of rose in the spring/summer. This is a perfect place to stay for either couples or a small family, where the amazing area of the Lake district can be easily explored and just a short walking distance you can pop out to wine and dine in the evening before returning to a cosy relaxing cottage. The Location The linked towns of Bowness and Windermere lie east of Lake Windermere, where Bowness is at the waters edge, with the town of Windermere set about a half mile away above the lake. Each is a busy community of shops, cafes, restaurants and attractions, serving both the local community and our visitors to the Lake District. Perhaps the biggest attraction is the bay at Bowness, a sweeping crescent of waterfront and adjoining parkland, where you can enjoy a walk by the shore or find a quite place to picnic. At the bay you will find the piers and the famous Windermere steamers, which offer boat trips up and down the ten - mile reach of the lake. Here you can also hire rowing boats and motor powered boats, which can be taken by the hour to explore the lake and it islands for yourself. Other popular attractions are the World of Beatrix Potter, the Windermere Steam Boat Museum and a little south of Bowness the Blackwell Arts and Crafts house, one of the most important surviving houses from the turn of the 20th century. The house is a superb example of the Arts and Crafts movement architecture, where it occupies a stunning position overlooking Windermere and is open to the public as a gallery for craft and applied arts. North of Windermere is Brockhole, the Lake District Visitor Center. Set on the lakeshores the main house is surrounded by beautiful gardens where you will find a huge adventure playground, café, shop and exhibitions along with a host of information about the National Park. For visual entertainment you have the Royalty Cinema in Windermere, and the Old Laundry Theatre in Bowness, staging a lively annual season of music, theatre, comedy and film. There are plenty of pubs, cafes and restaurants, where for me the best is by far Jericho’s in Windermere. Owned and run by Jo and Chris Blaydes, the welcome is always warm, the setting perfect and the cuisine delicious. For a good country pub atmosphere there is the Queens Head at Troutbeck, about 2 miles from the main village the inn offers fine beers, good food and roaring fires in winter months. For the big walks and big landscapes you will have to travel a bit further into the park, however there is a good local walk up onto Orrest Head, which begins from Windermere, just opposite the railway station. Anecdotally it was the first ever walk for Alfred Wainwright where the view from the summit was said to have changed his life and set him on a lifetime of fell walking and the production of those much loved walking guides. Also quite local are the fells to the south of Bowness. Although not mountain high, they offer a magical rolling countryside rising above the lake with magnificent views. Travel a little further afield and you much to explore. South of the villages, at the foot of Windermere, is Newby Bridge and Lakeside where the steamers terminate. Here you will also find Fell Foot Park for boat hire, fishing and the National Trust Gardens. East lies kendal, the capital Town of South Lakeland. A host of good shopping, restaurants and a busy cultrural scene with the likes of the Abbot Hall Art Gallery and The Brewery Arts Center. At the northern head of the lake lies Ambleside, a popular town with cinema, pubs, restaurants and huge selection of outdoor and climbing gear shops. Once you past the head of the lake you are within easy rach of the big fells such as the Langdales, the forest of Grizedale and the other great lake in the south, Coniston Water.
The outstanding natural beauty, beyond compare! Convenience of local village with it's selection of restaurants and shops.
  • Lovely traditional Lakeland cottage, super cute and brilliant location. Stayed here Friday to Sunday for my partners birthday weekend away. The cottage is very cute and cosy with lovey wooden beams and traditional decor. Kitchen has excellent amenities and the place is lovely and clean. The location is just perfect, tucked away behind trees yet a minute walk from the centre on Bowness. Would definitely recommend and would stay here again.

The Lake District is a World Heritage Site, and High Park is located in the most beautiful part of the area. This former farmhouse, once owned by Beatrix Potter, is situated on the Cumbria Way. The views are fantastic and at night, the silence is total. Although your bedroom is quite small, we do offer a King size double bed with a TV and a small fridge. You have your own private bathroom with great water pressure and piping hot water. We cook your breakfast how you like it - just ask!
We only let one room - with its own bathroom - so you will be our only guests. Your room has a king size bed, a HD TV, a small fridge and free WiFi. Your bathroom has both a bath and shower. A downstairs room is available, both for breakfast and for you to relax in at any time. We work very hard to keep our house squeaky clean too! Extraordinary silence at night, coupled with a true dark sky, make staying at High Park a unique experience.
We are in a secluded valley, but right in the middle of the Lake District. We offer peace and tranquility - and as one of our friends said recently, 'Probably the best view from a garden to be found in England'. The down side of this is that if you are looking for excitement and things to do in the evening, High Park might not be a good choice for you. There are two pubs within reasonable walking distance (20 - 30 minutes) and they serve evening meals and bar snacks. Because there is no street lighting, we are happy to provide you with a flashlight! Both Ambleside and Coniston (approx 5 miles away) offer a wide variety of pubs, cafes and restaurants.
  • A rare and wonderful find - superb hosts and a great location for walking and pubs. A true little gem!

    Anni2020-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • Couldn’t fault!! Tony & Wendy were lovely hosts with great knowledge of the area. We followed all of their advice and it didn’t disappoint! They have a beautiful home in a picturesque spot - so peaceful I had the best nights sleep in months. But even without all of that, just Wendy’s breakfasts would have been worth the visit! I would thoroughly recommend!!

    Holly2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • I had such a pleasant and rewarding first visit to the Lake District, thanks to Wendy and Tony for giving me a comfortable, welcoming, and safe place to start and end my day. Wendy’s breakfast was bountiful and delicious and Tony had great tips for both walking and driving routes. The house itself is so cute and clean. My favorite walk started right there. Will most definitely return!

    Rayer2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Tony and Wendy were excellent hosts. My brother and I loved the generous hospitality and how helpful the hosts were with hiking recommendations. The breakfast was delicious and the overall experience was comfortable, unique and delightful. Thank you so much.

  • Excellent location with beautiful views. Wendy and Tony really make you feel welcome and will go above and beyond to ensure your stay is a pleasant one. Their knowledge of the lakes as well as their lovely warm and comfortable cottage really does make your stay at the lakes a relaxing and pleasant one.

    Ryan2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Wendy and tony have a great welcome to their special home. The setting is perfect for access to the mountains and a warm and cosy room to come back to at the end of the day. The breakfast was sensational and set me up perfectly for a day on the fells. I would heartily recommend this stay.

    claire2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • My stay could not have been better. The English breakfast was delicious, it was lovely to be welcomed by some tea and cake after each walk, Wendy and Tony were very welcoming and gave great information to have some amazing walks. I highly recommend staying here!

    Thomas2020-02-07T00:00:00Z

Fermain Cottage is a charming lakeland home that has been lovingly renovated over the years to a high standard. It is a three storey property on a peaceful road, just a very short walk from Ambleside town centre. With ample parking for two vehicles, it is a perfect base from which to explore everything the Lake District has to offer. A tranquil, cosy and memorable place to stay, for up to five people. We are a strictly dog-free cottage.
The front door opens straight into a newly renovated and well equipped kitchen area. The oven, gas hob and microwave gives you plenty of cooking options. There is a fridge / freezer, kettle, Nespresso Coffee Machine and dishwasher. There are plenty of pots, pans, crockery, glassware and cooking utensils - everything you need for a self-catered holiday. Stone floors lead through to the living room where there is a dining table / chairs and two sofas. There is a wall mounted television and a wood burning stove which is lovely to sit by in the evenings (please bring your own logs). There are some books and games kept in the living room which you are welcome to use. The house is fully centrally heated throughout and the controls are on the first floor landing. The bathroom is a stunning focal point of the home. After a long walk in the hills you can take a soak in the claw-foot tub, or have an invigorating shower with our complimentary toiletries. There is also a double bedroom on the first floor and laundry facilities. The top floor houses a large second double bedroom and a smaller single bedroom. There are excellent views of the surrounding fells from the top floor. On prior request we can accommodate a sixth person on a pull-out bed in the single bedroom. It is a full size single mattress bed (see photos) and would probably be best suited for children. There is an additional charge of twenty pounds if you would like the sixth bed to be made up. Stair-gates and a travel cot can be assembled prior to your arrival, upon request. Being a traditional lakeland cottage, the staircases are quite narrow and steep, which may present a challenge to the elderly or those with mobility problems. Outside: The back door leads out from the living room to a small, peaceful garden with an area of grass and benches. There is a gravel driveway large enough for two cars. There is a large lockable shed in the garden. If you want to store bikes etc in there, I am happy to arrange for the key to be left for you. We are a strictly dog-free cottage.
Ambleside is a bustling and lively village where you will find plenty of things to do. Many happy hours can be spent wandering around the town and its interesting shops (with plenty of stops for coffees and cakes!). Ambleside is one of the best places to shop for outdoor gear if you are into fell walking / outdoor activities. In the evenings there are a number of restaurants within walking distance from the cottage if you don't feel like cooking. Pop into one of the many cosy pubs for a drink. The Lake District is home to some of the most spectacular scenery in the UK - there is so much to explore! Turn right out of the cottage door on foot and there are a number of beautiful walks up the hill and onto the local fells, which are suitable for most people and children. Or take a short drive for some more challenging walks in the area - Helvellyn on a clear day offers unparalleled beauty from the top.
  • Fantastic location and a warm, welcoming cottage with everything you need.

    Chris2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • We’ve just got back from a stay with two toddlers and a baby and the cottage was perfect! The cottage had a baby gate, high chair and travel cot all ready and waiting for us. It’s in a great location so close to walk into Ambleside centre and some fantastic views from the bedrooms on the top floor. Gareth was really responsive to my messages, and check in/out was so simple. The cottage was spotlessly clean and felt so homely and cosy, we’ll definitely be returning here for more Lake District adventures!

  • Excellent accomodation, close to Ambleside centre (the hill to the cottage isn't as big as it looks on Google maps). It had everything we needed despite spending most of our time out walking or hiding in the local pubs from the weather! All in all, would highly recommend if visiting Ambleside or the Lake District in general!

  • A perfect romantic getaway with stunning views across the lake, I would without a doubt stay here again!

    Jack2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We arrived to a personal welcome, and were made to feel at home right away. We were treated to a cooked breakfast on both mornings, which was a pleasant surprise! Is spite of the weather, the views of Lake Windermere were amazing from the large windows on the ground floor. The home is gated, with secure gardens for our dog to play. We’re hoping to return in the summer to see the lake in all it’s glory!

    Kyle2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing place. I came with very little knowledge of what to expect and I had an amazing time. The host is very friendly, available and helpful. I had no idea where to go walking and the host immediately gave me several recommendations. Artie's Lodge overlooks Lake Windmere with a stunning, undisturbed view. The place inside is kept extremely clean and is full of character and quirks. The lodge is very well furnished. My favourite bits were the massive bed and amazing bathtub! I went with the full English breakfast and certainly wasn't disappointed. The meat was extremely flavourful and those home grown eggs! I came away having really enjoyed my stay and just wished I were staying longer. I would definitely stay here again.

    James2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Elizabeth was a fantastic host - the lodge is beautiful, the location is perfect, and breakfast was delicious and a much appreciated addition to the stay. Oh, and the view! One of our best AirBnB’s we have ever stayed in - and we have stayed in many around the world. Thanks very much for a great stay, 100% recommended.

    Josh2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing stay! We had such a wonderful time! Thank you so much for making us feel welcome, we will definitely be back!

    Daniel2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely visit. Beautiful location and close by to bars/restaurants. The out house was bigger than expected and the breakfast was an amazing touch. Wish we stayed longer. Elizabeth was very accommodating and we would love to come back in the summer time and explore even more of Lake Windermere.

    Zoe2020-02-02T00:00:00Z

  • Great place to stay to explore the lakes. We found our way on a lovely walk to Bowness on Windermere from here and easily to Ambleside too. Being so close to all the cafes and restaurants in Windermere was great for the evenings too so we could just nip round the corner. The place itself is really cosy and I definitely recommend a stay here.

High quality Self-Catering accommodation for discerning guests. Located at the heart of The Lake District and overlooking the famous Langdale Valley within a secluded and tranquil woodland estate this alpine style lodge is comfortable, cosy, tastefully furnished and extravagantly equipped. This is not a commercial site - the property is privately owned which is ideal for a either a romantic getaway or a relaxing family holiday.
This facility is non-smoking throughout. There are 4 bedspaces - One double and two single beds. Bed liens are provided for everyone and beds will be made up ready for your arrival. Towels and tea-towels are provided, so you need only bring your toothbrush. Up to 2 pet dogs are permitted and you should disclose this in your message to the owner at the time of booking - an additional, overall, pet accommodation fee of £30 is payable nearer the time; it is not part of the initial booking process.
Situated in a large plot located at the edge of a mature woodland park which enjoys great access to wildlife. Deer often come right up to the deck at dawn and dusk, especially if they are offered fresh parsnips or carrots. With efficient insulation, double-glazing and electric heating the cabin is warm and cosy. Crystal clear spring water, full of minerals and as soft as silk, is drawn directly from our own borehole and piped straight to your tap for washing and drinking.
  • A great scenic spot! We had a lovely weekend for my boyfriend's birthday made even special with a bottle of bubbly on arrival. Everything was clean and up to standard! Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to visit the lakes!

    Melanie2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is wonderful, feels like your own little piece of the forest. Cozy and warm and brilliantly situated. The recommendations given for food and nearby walks were also excellent.

  • The cabin was ace, and Andy was fantastic with solving an issue out of his control.

  • Add this place to ''To do list before I die''

    Radhwan2019-12-20T00:00:00Z
  • Before we arrived at Andy & Maggie's cabin, I was a little bit concerned that we would be totally isolated in the middle of nowhere. It turned out that, although this very cozy cabin is isolated in its own area, there were also other cabins/houses situated not too far and not too close from it. The cabin itself was very well equipped and furnished. The beds were very comfy. The heaters worked very well in all the rooms. There were soap + shampoo (and maybe conditioner) in the bathroom, and the shower was nice and warm. No body lotion provided though, so don't forget to bring one along if you have dry skin. The kitchen was well equipped, but there wasn't any cooking condiments (e.g. salt/pepper/sugar), so make sure you bring some with you if you want to cook. Andy was also a very responsive host. We faced a small issue when we arrived on the first night, but Andy got it fixed right away the next day. I was very happy. Overall, my sister and I had a very pleasant stay at Andy & Maggie's cabin!

  • If you’re thinking of whether or not stay here... do it! A magical place with an incredibly view 5 mins away...

    Claudia2019-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • Idyllic stay in a retreat-like location. All the facilities you would need whether staying in or going out. Great location to explore the local area but so comfortable you may not want to leave during your stay. Would happily return and recommend

    Neil2019-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • Great holiday home, nice and snug on damp autumn evenings. Would be even better in summer so could use the bbq area too. Peaceful location right in the woods. Easily drivable to Ambleside and its parking space is right at end of steps to lodge. We did not try the pool on the estate but very close by. Located in good place for a base for exploring many of the Lakes in this pretty part of the country, before heading back for a reflective cuppa in the cosy kitchen.

Two bedroomed ground floor apartment with fully equipped kitchen (including cafetière/French press for morning coffee).Beautiful outlook over lawns, duck pond and hills. At the very centre of The Lake District National Park. Pub restaurant within walking distance coffee shop too.Supermarket at Chapel Stile 2 miles, Ambleside 3 miles. Fell walk from the door. Grasmere rowing boats 2 miles, Elterwater, Windermere, Coniston nearby. Indoor pool house/sauna/table tennis available 4/3 to 14/11
As a family we love spending time here. The central location means you don’t spend time in holiday seasons queuing to get through Ambleside but can be instantly out and about. We walk and climb all day with a picnic in a perfect spot, then come back to a swim and sauna and a bbq on the patios. Later into the evening we play games or watch a film. The nights are silent under star strewn skies. There are wonderful local eateries and pubs, The Eltermere Inn remains our favourite. There’s a brilliant indoor pool with a wave machine in Keswick and a fabulous market on a Thursday. The cinema in Ambleside is joined with a restaurant and offers excellent value deals on a film and a meal. When we’re here for a week family members have to pick their favourite activities and trips, walks, climbs as there is so much to do. In summary you have a ground floor flat. 5 outdoor steps to climb on path from car park but otherwise level. Comfortable living space with books, maps and games, dvds provided. Travel cot for infants but bring your baby’s bedding. Large washing machine (3x £1 coins) large tumble dryer (£1 per 30 minutes) in the nearby laundry room if needed. Please note, concerning pricing and good value....... the nearest hotel has a 2 night minimum stay and ranges from £50 (most basic mid week) to £100 per night PER PERSON. At Merlins there are no additional fees for each guest or for cleaning fees (as some other Airbnbs charge) You get a good deal
Car needed. 3 miles out of Ambleside but that’s why red squirrels play outside the patio door.

  • Lizzie’s apartment was great for a two night stay in the lakes. It was super clean and tidy! The location is slightly further out from Ambleside than what we anticipated - it’s a drive away not a walk away. Great communication and overall we had a lovely stay!

    Harrie2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • We only had a very short stay at Neuam Crag, we were only in the area for a wedding but the apartment was lovely. Really well equipped and comfortable with a lovely view outside. Lizzie's directions were first class even giving us the amount of speed-bumps before we reached the apartment. Her communication was excellent. All in all we had a lovely time and wouldn't hesitate to return.

  • Lizzie’s house provides us with a warm and cozy shelter in Lake District’s brutal winter weather. We enjoyed our stay very much.

    Terry2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely home and was just what we needed. Very close to trails and not a far drive into town. As noted in the welcome booklet, there is a cozy pub that is walking distance from the home, which was very handy. I would definitely recommend staying here. Thanks again!

  • Lizzie’s airbnb was excellent. The location is very peaceful and directions to get there were perfect - and needed. The unit was very clean and comfortable with a well outfitted kitchen and larger than usual living and dining area. Also, the household instructions binder was very helpful. We would gladly return.

There are several very good pubs close by, and in Ambleside, Coniston and Grasmere, which all have highly regarded restaurants, and are just a short drive away.
Neaum Crag is quite a unique and quiet estate. All the cabins are privately owned. Within the grounds you can often see deer, red squirrels, and listen to woodpeckers and owls. There are numerous walks straight from the door....so you can leave the car parked up!
  • Wonderful stay in this gorgeous place. Lovely cosy cabin in such a beautiful spot. We’ll be back!

  • Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this cozy cabin. Louise has thought of everything you may need with some lovely touches. Ideal location. Very clean and homely place to stay.

    Morgan2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was everything we hoped for. The location was amazing and we all loved seeing the deer in the woods. We did several walks straight from the cabin, so no need to drive and park (which was helpful as the Lakes were packed over Christmas!). The cabin itself was spotless, toasty and warm and plenty big enough for the 4 of us. We were welcomed with some amazing cake too :) Definitely recommend a trip here, hopefully we’ll be back again soon.

The Nest is just that, a proper little cosy bolt-hole for the perfect getaway. Located between Ambleside and Skelwith Bridge, just outside Clappersgate, this little hideaway is perfectly placed for easy access to the Langdale valley, or back into Ambleside. Outside there is a private parking area in front of The Nest, and a covered seating area.
Small and cosy but perfectly formed, this is a well appointed one bed unit, with a small kitchenette, and well fitted shower room to keep you self sufficient. All on one level from the parking area, the accommodation also provides easy access for restricted mobility.
Close to Ambleside, but also on the doorstep of Langdale, with all of the drama that the South Lakes has to offer. Chesters Café is close by, to spoil yourself, with a great menu and also good for cakes and coffee.
  • Our stay was lovely thanks to the compact, but well thought out space. It had everything we needed, and it was very cosy and comfortable. We would use again for a short break in the Lakes.

The Conga is a cosy, quirky cottage, part of a small row of houses built in the 1840s. It has a south facing aspect and lovely views. Situated in a very quiet part of Ambleside, it is only a short 10 minute walk down in to the village and there are many scenic walks right from the door. Parking available.
  • Lovely location up steep back road in Ambleside, with lake views from the bedroom. Cosy, warm, clean. Jem made sure we had coffee and local tips.

    Kathleen2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • This is a brilliant place (the pictures are very accurate) in a truly beautiful location. The views are wonderful (including tons of birds!) especially from the comfy bed, which is deceptively large too. We cooked very easily in the kitchen with all crockery/utensils provided, and Jem had left us some coffee/sugar/oil. There are loads of local maps and leaflets too which were great. Cannot recommend this enough, it is a really cute place in a beautiful setting.

  • A very charming place to stay in a great location. Well placed for a lovely walk to the high Sweden bridge and a short, though steep (if needed to be considered), walk into town. The bed is so comfy and overlooks a great view.

  • We came for the first time in 2019 and decided to return this year. Really amazing place for a group of us to stay, and again had a beautiful memorable time together, this time enjoying the walk to the pub in Elterwater, and also up Loughrigg Fell.

  • Very good house, clean, warm, well equipped and very comfortable. It's bigger than appears on photos. Good tips on local area and suggested walks are excellent. Host (David) is quick to reply. (Just a little note - there is not a view from within the house). However in all other aspects this is a great house.

  • My partner, dog and I just spent Mon - Thurs here and absolutely loved it. Liz is a brilliant host and always kept in contact/offered local tips. The cottage is very dog friendly with an enclosed garden but a large patch of communal land at the back attached where we played with the dog etc which was a really big added bonus. Great location as it’s 5min drive from Ambleside and 15/20 mins from Grasmere/Windermere respectively. Would definitely stay again.

  • Thank you for a lovely stay! We had a nice cosy time. Only areas for us to help you improve on would be the bathroom and a freshening up throughout. Overall a lovely cottage in a lovely part of the UK. We would recommend to others (especially those with dogs).

    Ben2019-12-05T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic base to explore the lakes, felt very quiet and away from the busy villages perfect for us. Short walk to ambelside and a great feel to the place.

    Alex2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • The views were beyond what we expected, as you go out into the garden the mountains and lake are just stunning. A perfect place to enjoy some breakfast and a coffee! The location was excellent. We had no idea when booking just how close to walks and shops it was! The two walks we wanted to do were both a 5/10 min drive away from the cottage. The local towns of ambleside and windermere were both really close with lots of shops and restaurants. Close enough to everything to not worry, but felt like you were in your own little world! The bath was incredible. I've never had so many baths in 1 day in my life. Thank you for having us, we would definitely stay again!

A charming apartment in a traditional Lakeland house. Ideal for walking, cycling, climbing, rowing, sailing and kayaking. Wide choice of shops, cafes, pubs & restaurants in nearby Windermere & Bowness. Main tourist attractions within easy reach.
Willow is a located in tranquil woodland with views towards the mountains and fells. The apartment is part of an extension to Pinethwaite Lodge. The original part of Pinethwaite Lodge dates from the late 19th Century. Willow has a bedroom with double bed, wardrobe and chest of drawers. The kitchen, dining and living area are all in one room with sink, electric oven, hob, microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster, dining table and chairs, settee and TV. The bathroom has underfloor electric heating, a shower, toilet and wash hand basin. A cot for a baby can be provided on request but please bring bedding for the cot (my children are in their mid 20s now!) Willow and our grounds are not 'child friendly', however. I do not provide child proof plug socket covers or cupboard locks. In addition there are a number of external hazards including a pond, stream and stone steps close to the apartment. Your child/children will need to be supervised at all times. I charge a one off payment of £5.00 for the use of the cot. I can provide a camp bed which fits in the kitchen/dining/living room area if the sofa is moved! It is a bit of a squeeze! If you wish to use the camp bed as well please bring a sleeping bag. I charge a one off hire fee of £5.00 for the use of the camp bed. There is a small courtyard by the entrance with table and chairs. Bicycles can be stored in an undercover storage area next to Willow in our shed.
The Lake District is a year round destination and Pinethwaite Lodge is located near Windermere in the heart of the National Park. Outdoor opportunities are endless: walking, cycling climbing, rowing, sailing and kayaking - all within easy reach and Windermere Golf Club is just up the lane. The main tourist attractions of the southern Lake District are all on the doorstep – Windermere with cruise boats, Beatrix Potter attractions, a cinema in Bowness – and a little further away are the Aquarium of the Lakes, Car Museum, Sizergh Castle and Brockhole Visitor Centre. Bowness and Windermere are within a couple of miles, with a wide choice of shops, tea rooms, cafes and restaurants and modern and traditional pubs. The popular centre of Windermere is surrounded by very accessible vantage points that give glorious views of the surrounding area and lake. Orrest Head, a 784’ hill north of the town, provides one of the finest panoramas – as does School Knott – immediately behind Pinethwaite. Another easy climb is Biskey Howe, a 300’ hill east of Bowness, which has quaint narrow streets and a 15th century church. Windermere, the lake, has fourteen islands, including privately owned Belle Isle with its 18th century round house. Further afield, the list of stately homes, steam railways, lakes and tarns, homes of authors and poets, and fine eating places, is almost endless, all set in the deep valleys and foothills of the Lakeland fells, where some of Britain’s best scrambling and mountain walking may be found. Even in today’s busy world, it is possible still to leave cars and people behind and find solitude in many parts of the Lake District. In addition, Pinethwaite is a haven for wildlife: foxes, badgers, roe deer, and a wide range of birds, from buzzards, to long-tailed tits, warblers, fly catchers, heron, tawny owls and many more.
  • Cecilia has such a wonderful apartment in a brilliant location, just a 10 minute walk from the centre of windemere. A great base for exploring the lakes and fantastic value. Thanks Cecilia!

We fell in love with this place the moment we arrived. The peace of the area gave us a chance to relax in the beautiful surroundings. Close by, the lake, hills and mountains gave us the chance to have some adventures. Our Lake District cottage is one of four properties that were once the mill in Water Yeat. It has an open kitchen dining room which makes a great space to relax. The living room has a wood burning stove, vaulted ceiling and large windows with views over the hamlet and countryside.
Our cottage has: An open kitchen diner with electric oven and hob, fridge-freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. A living room with two sofas, satellite TV, DVD and wood-burning stove. 1 double bedroom with king-size bed 1 double bedroom with double day bed Bathroom with bath and separate shower Hallway Parking for two vehicles Garden and patio
We live in a small hamlet with lovely views and walks and cycle rides in all directions. Walk straight onto the nearby hills, down to the river or along to the lake Coniston Water. Nearby are the villages of Coniston and Hawkshead, the higher Lakeland mountains and Brantwood, the home of John Ruskin. A little further are Ambleside, Windermere, Langdale and Grasmere. The area has many great cafes and pubs serving local produce. For the more adventurous there is great mountain walking, climbing, mountain biking, canoeing and sailing close by, independently or with local adventure companies.
  • Had a perfect week with our 2 beagles, garden perfect for them to run around in. Cottage has everything we needed and will definitely be coming back

The 5 Herdwick Huts are set on their own exclusive site on the stunning grounds of Rydal Hall in the heart of the Lake District National Park. With the best mountain walks straight from your hut door and Rydal lake only a 5 min walk away, it really is hard to beat this location. Perfect for a truly romantic getaway any time of year. All bedding linen and kitchen utensils provided, (including tea towel, sponge and washing up liquid) plus wood and kindling to get you started for the wood burner.
Tea room, ornate gardens and state of the art toilet/shower block on site at Rydal Hall for guest use.
Lakes, mountains and the Badger Bar for great pub grub and an opportunity to see the badgers.
  • We loved our little hut, and it worked perfectly for a short Winter/Spring break (the log burner kept the place nice and toasty, and the tea-light lanterns are a lovely little touch). Would definitely recommend!

    Charlie2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fabulous time in Blea hut, the weather was a wet and snowy, but what do you expect in the Lakes in February. However the hut was lovely and warm with the log burner and had all the amenities for cooking etc. They’re in a fantastic location for walks... 4 mile to Grasmere, 1-1/2 to Ambleside, Rydal Cave over the road. There’s the Badger pub on the main road but we walked into Ambleside with head torches on an evening. Showers/toilets are a walk but that didn’t bother us at all. We will definitely be back in winter. Little gem !!

    Jane2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • So so simple. Great log burner and enough amenities to get you through the coldest nights. Close to some great walks. Shower facilities also only 150 meters. Very cute 👍

A review from January 2020 from Mr Buckle “We would highly recommend The Apartment, Betty Fold. The apartment itself is just lovely, the facilities were great and the owners were friendly, welcoming, accommodating and helpful. The Apartment is located in beautiful grounds with fabulous views of the Lakes countryside, and the location was perfect for stunning walks around the Tarn Hows area. The village of Hawkshead itself is down the hill, a nice walk, especially if you take the path along the river, or a 2 minute drive. We had a lovely few days in January and will definitely be going again." In April 2019 Mr York wrote “This was a fantastic 7 days stay. Hawkshead is only 1.5 miles away, with plenty of places to eat. Central to all the usual Lake District attractions. The apartment had all we would want. Bedding, towels, dishes and kitchen utensils. Idyllic setting with NO car noise. Just birds singing, a Woodpecker, a small deer, pheasants and an occasional badger. Completely peaceful"
Betty Fold Apartment is in the tiny hamlet of Hawkshead Hill close to the picturesque Tarn Hows and the honey pot village of Hawkshead with it's connections to William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. There are many and varied pubs, cafes and restaurants within a shorts drive from from Betty Fold and the owners will be pleased to advise.
  • We stayed here for my husbands 50th. It was perfect for us and our dog with wet and muddy kit. We did some lovely walks locally and a bit further a field. Claire and her husband were very helpful. Shame there isn’t a large supermarket close by, I would advise people wanting to eat in to do a big shop on route as it’s expensive shopping in Hawkshead or Ambleside as they only have express shops and hike the prices in them. Hope to rerun in warmer weather.

    Elizabeth2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic apartment. Great views, very cosy and comfortable, well equipped and very relaxing atmosphere.

  • We had a fabulous stay at Betty Fold. Everything was as described - the appartment was very comfortable, clean, and well equipt. The hosts were very friendly and approachable. The location was perfect - stunnig views. A 20 minute stroll to Tarn Haws, 40 minute stroll to Hawkshead and 10 minute drive to Coniston and Ambleside. We loved it and would go again.

Small but perfectly formed en suite double room in a Lakeland Victorian townhouse. The house is on a quiet street in the heart of Windermere, just 2 minutes walk from the many bars, cafés, restaurants and shops, and just 15 minutes walk from the shores of lake Windermere. The train station is a 10 minute walk away.
A light, sunny room (when the sun is shining :)) at the back of the house with views of the Lake District mountain tops. The space is small but not pokey. It's been beautifully renovated with a brand new en-suite bathroom, a very comfortable bed and a selection of fair-trade teas and fresh coffee for you in the room.
  • A really lovely place to stay in the Lake District. Perfect location in Windermere. The room is perfect, really liked the little tea and coffee station in the room and John made us an excellent breakfast both days. Would absolutely recommend this accommodation.

  • Couldn’t ask for a better place to stay. Lovely room, thoughtful & caring host. Location is ideal. John went out his way to make us Vegan brownies on leaving. Wonderful touch to a wonderful host. Thank you

  • John is one of the nicest people I have met. He treated me like a personal guest in his own home. The room is sparkling clean and the amenities are great. John rustled up a hearty breakfast and had excellent advice about local trips. Highly recommend. I would give it 10 stars if I could.

  • John was amazing! A lovely host, very good tips for the area and made us feel most welcome. The room was great as well. Very clean and a super comfortable mattress. We were sad to leave after just one night and will be back when we’re in the area again. You’re missing out if you don’t stay here!

  • Me and my husband can highly recommend John's place. John is an exceptional host. The communication was super. He was very quick to respond with any questions. He is easy to talk to, friendly and accomodating. John let us drop bags off early and park car. He offered us a guest pass for the car and we were able to park right outside the house. It's location could not be better to explore Windermere with its beautiful shops, cafe bars, restaurants and so much more. It is in a very peaceful and quiet area of Windermere. A 5 minute stroll into the heart of the town and 20 minutes to Bowness. It really is such a magical area and John's place is perfect to use as a base to explore. The photo doesn't do this place justice. It's a beautiful Victorian house. Full of charm. Its absolutely spotless. Immaculate. The bed was super comfortable and the bedding luxurious. A nice hospitality tray. Stylish en suite bathroom with a great power shower. Breakfast was offered. We love omelettes and this was not a problem. Served downstairs in the bright and airy basement in a beautiful kitchen with lovely coffee. A great start to the day. Our stay could not have been any better. We would highly recommend this wonderful Airbnb. It's a very good price too. Always a bonus.

    Debra2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very good place and John is a nice host. John is very kind and skilled in art and music. He was very kind, listening patiently to my fluent English and paraphrasing words I didn't understand. My time talking with John is still an important memory for me! Surrounded by John's house and the nature of windermere, we had a very nice time! The room was very cute and renovated by hand and looked like a hotel. There is also a brand new private bathroom with a nice British antique handle. The bed is large enough to sleep with two people. In the evening, I cooked freely in the kitchen with open kitchen. Because John cooks everyday, he has a lot of spices and Japanese knives. I was able to relax and relax as if I were living abroad. The house is a quiet place because it is just one from the main street. Supermarkets and main streets are just around the corner, and within 5-10 minutes walk from windermere station. I want to go to England again to stay here! Thanks for John's hospitality!

  • Lovely cosy stay at Bank View! Lots of little touches and very well equipped kitchen. Loved the bathrobes. Shower great, no issues with water. Comfy bed. Parking can be a bit tight if you have a large car. Great location. Thanks again!

  • Very clean and good location

  • A perfect cottage for two in a perfect location. The house is small - a bedroom with en-suite upstairs and a living room with integral kitchen downstairs. It’s comfortable and well equipped for two. The dishwasher was welcome. Note there’s no washing machine but that was not a problem for us. Loads of walks from the door and local pubs nearby. A beautiful and quiet part of the lakes away from the honeypot sites. Loved it!

    Deborah2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy property in an ideal location for exploring Langdale and surrounding areas. We did not use the car all week as plenty of great walks locally. The local Co-Op is very well stocked and the local pubs The Britannia, Wainwright’s Inn and the Sticklebarn are all within walking distance. Perfection!

    Russell2019-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • Bank View cottage is very stylish and cosy. We had a great time staying here. The location is great, very easy to get to the surrounding areas such as Ambleside, Coniston, Grasmere etc. We recommend the food at The Britannia Inn, which was delicious. On arrival there was a top 10 pub walks book which we used all week and completed 4/5 walks from it, this was a nice touch. We used the facilities to cook some evenings too, it was all very easy to use, pots, pans, plates, cutlery etc all provided. Overall, the cottage is very stylish and enjoyable to be in, in the beautiful Lake District. We would highly recommend and hope to visit again soon.

  • This was a lovely little cottage in Chapel Stile which was very tastefully furnished and decorated with a lovely cosy feel. Very near a pub, a little Coop and a tea room...what else could you wish for! We would definitely stay in this cottage again and would recommend it to friends.

  • Lovely cottage perfectly placed in the middle of the Lakes. Great base for walking or site-seeing from. More than comfortable enough to hide from the rain in too, with a lovely big bath :)

Dock Tarn lodge is close to the top of the Neaum Crag Estate, set on the south facing hill above Skelwith Bridge, at the entrance to Langdale, and below Loughrigg Fell. Set amongst the trees, the lodge has a large level outside seating to the side, with an additional land behind which you can explore – a perfect place to sit and enjoy glimpses of the amazing views across to Park Fell, Black Fell and Great How between the trees.
Inside, the lodge has good sized double and twin bedroom, with an open plan living area which extends into the dining area and fitted kitchen. With plenty of storage, and the warmth of the wood panelled walls, Dock Tarn provides lovely cosy accommodation for a family holiday. There is a broadband connection with WiFi, and parking close to the lodge. Dock Tarn includes a pass to the swimming pool facility (open from March the 1st to November the 12th), which includes a sauna, table tennis, additional wifi and a general place to relax. This is located in the centre of the estate just below, and with the speed restriction on site, the estate provides a wonderful safe haven for children to explore. There is also an onsite (coin operated) laundry facility. The owners have made the lodge dog friendly, so it is fenced all around. There is adjacent level parking at Dock Tarn for two vehicles. The woodland is protected by a tree preservation order and the bird life is abundant. Red Squirrels can be spotted, roe deer, and occasionally red deer, wander at will through the grounds, though they are rarely seen in summer when the vegetation is high, and badgers snuffle around in the small hours.
Neaum Crag is handy for access to the Langdale valley, with Chesters Café and the Talbot Bar close by at Skelwith Bridge, and Ambleside only a few miles away.
  • Lovely spot to walk from and base for visiting the lakes

    Holly2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • Great to be staying in the woods with easy access to places nearby. Lots of shops in Ambleside - which is less than 10 minutes away. Good to have access to a small swimming pool on site (which the kids enjoyed). The lodge was clean and tidy and had everything we needed. Thanks.

Unique double room with its own private entrance in the heart of the Lake District.
A private double room with a king sized bed and private bathroom, the Suite has it's own private entrance.
The bungalow is just s few minutes from the village centre. There are plenty of eating places such as pubs and cafes along with a co op, bakers and butcher shop. There are also many opportunities for walking and cycling in the area.
  • The room is private and had everything we need to rest after exploring this area of the Lake District. The location is great: there are a few places to eat (short walk distance) nearby and a short drive from beautiful places (like the Grizedale forest). Rachel and Ian were great hosts and very helpful getting us familiar with the area and the best places to go.

    Marisol2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • We have just enjoyed a wonderful two night stay in Rachel's lovely accommodation. It is well situated, just a two minute stroll from the centre of Coniston and is ideal for exploring the area. The room is very clean, warm and beautifully presented. We wouldn't hesitate in booking again! As a side note, we would recommend the Yewdale Inn for food (fabulous pizzas!)

    Stephen2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a lovely stay at Rachel’s place. The private space was beautiful set up for anything you could possibly want/need. Rachel was considerate and thoughtful with some of the warmest hospitality we’ve had. The location is perfect for any Lake District adventure as well as cosy nights in the local. No negatives to this experience.

  • Great hospitality in a beautiful place

    Mark2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Spacious room with nice area for relaxing rather than having to sit on the bed. Good area between room and bathroom for coats, bags etc . thoughtful touches for example, tray for muddy boots to dry. Nicely decorated and very clean. Just a great place. Very central to walk into coniston but also quiet

    Lindsey2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Rachel was lovely and the room was great. It was really cosy and the location was great for us - really easy access to the lakeside and the trails around Coniston. Coniston had plenty of choice for food and it all looked pretty good. We ended up eating at the Bluebird cafe on the lakeside. We didn't have time to visit the museums and things in the village, but there was a lot more than we expected to keep us busy. The room itself was spacious and Rachel left a kettle, tea and coffee. The shower was lovely after a cold day out. We were there to be outdoors, but if you need it then the wifi connection was excellent and the tv was good to collapse in front of at the end of the day. There's a good size room between the bedroom and bathroom that made an excellent 'dressing' room. Parking on the drive was easy, the views right out of the window were lovely, the area was very quiet, arriving and checking out were super straightforward and Rachel let us know she was there if needed. The stay was perfect.

Very quiet and private location but only 10 mins walk into Windermere town centre or down to the lake.
  • A lovely Airbnb in perhaps the best possible Windermere location. Less than a five minute walk to both lake and town. Also a wonderful base from which to explore the rest of the lakes. :)

In light of the Coronavirus, we wanted to reassure our guests that our beautiful country hut is like home from home. It is isolated from anyone else or any other properties, with its own private outdoor space. Your nearest guests are the sheep in the field next door! With 5* reviews, hygiene has always been paramount and we personally clean our hut to the highest standard. We provide hand sanitizer and anti-bacterial wipes and all linen is professional cleaned. With best wishes, Jo and Darren
Set on a private road, away from the noise, and yet both Windermere and Bowness are only a short 10 minutes walk away. There is a private parking area with plenty of space that is shared with the main house, connected to a small path leading you to the hut. Mountain bikers are welcome to bring and leave bikes in our secure garage.
The hut is based on a quiet, hidden road, in walking distance to the vibrant Windermere town where there is plenty of places to eat out from Italian cuisine to Thai. One of our favourite places to eat is The Smith a small family run pizza restaurant with a log fire and twinkly fairy lights. If you like your beer and ales the crafty Ba is a friendly place with homely decor and a great ambience, not to mention the most extensive selection of drinks available. We've had many a cheeseboard here! For amazing brunch and breakfast it's a must to visit Homeground coffee and kitchen! And for sunny days I recommend Cafe Italia across the road with outside seating where you can drink cappuccinos and watch the people go by.
  • Jo’s place is super clean and although small, perfectly formed. Jo had left scones for us when we arrived which were delicious and a lovely touch. Everything in the hut is of high quality and there’s a terrace which I’m sure is lovely in the summer. It’s a short walk to Windermere with various restaurants and pubs etc. Would definitely recommend it to a friend - thanks so much Jo!

    Antonia2020-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful place to stay that we cant recommend enough. Perfectly situated from both Windermere and Bowness by foot (or by other means) if you want somewhere close to the towns yet away from the noise. Stunning views from the hut over rolling hills and off in to the distance which come at great value for money in a very pricey area. Super clean, and really well fitted out the hut was ideal for our needs. Jo was a great host who went to every measure and beyond to make us feel comfortble. Would happily stay again in the future - thanks for having us.

    Oliver2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • The five stars option isn’t enough! We have travelled to Windermere/Bowness-on-Windermere many times over the past 13 years, but this stay has absolutely been the most special and memorable stay. Jo and Darren kindly left a lovely bottle of bubbly for our Anniversary 💕. The Hut is just perfect, so beautifully decorated and so cleverly designed. We loved the Stag and Heart details which are so pretty and stylish. The views are spectacular and how lovely to wake up to sheep just outside the window. We were sad to leave today, but we will book to return. Our best Anniversary ever, Suzanne and Paul

    Suzanne2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • A gorgeous and cosy place to stay in the Lakes, only a short walk to Windermere town and Jo and Darren were super friendly and added lovely touches to make us feel welcome! A perfect home for a few days away!

  • Jo's place is amazing. Fantastic location with stunning views. Jo has made a small space into a haven with everything you could need and more for a break away.

    Vicki2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely few days staying in Jo's hut and exploring the Lake District. Although the weather was less than ideal, we still managed to enjoy our time away and we would definitely recommend staying at Oakland Hut due to the great location and brilliant facilities.

    Rebecca2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • We booked Jo's place as a birthday gift for my brother and sister in law. They had a lovely time, the hut is very cosy and welcoming and Jo added a very personal touch leaving a birthday cake and card which was much appreciated.

  • Just returned back from a short stay in Windermere. This hut is stunning with lovely, thoughtful touches. Although small, it provides a quiet get away from the hustle and bustle of busy life. Location wise it is perfect, you can be in the heart of Windermere within 10 minutes walk where you can find lots of nice cafes/bars/pubs and shops. The hut has everything you need, and I can imagine in summer the outside part of the property is beautiful with the scenery and BBQ! Jo and Darren were amazing from start to finish, communication was fast and check in/out was effortless. They were always on hand if we needed them. Despite the weather we still came away feeling happy, well rested and refreshed. I cannot fault this fab property, will definitely be booking again! Thank you Jo + Darren!

The location is great which is why we chose it however the accommodation itself was much better than we had anticipated. Clean, homely, and with a great guidebook on things to do from a locals point of view, we would recommend to people visiting the area for the first time, or seasoned tourists!
