Places to stay in Surry
This is an upstairs bedroom w/ a full size bed. A full bathroom is down the hall (shared if other guest are here but that normally is not the case). A coffee pot, microwave & small refrigerator is in the room. We are close to Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown, Virginia Beach, airports, local plantations, parks, art / culture & much more. We are four miles from the Jamestown / Williamsburg Ferry. It is a free 20 minute drive on ferry ride & runs every 30 minutes.
This space is good for the Solar workers (less than 5 miles from the site) as well as the Surry Nuclear Power Plant workers as we are 12 miles from the plant. There is a small refrigerator with freezer in the room. There is a washer, dryer, dish sink, microwave, stove top in the great room if you need to cook or wash some clothes.
Surry County is located across the James River from the historic sites of Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Yorktown. It is centrally located between Richmond, the Tri-Cities and Hampton Roads. Several historical plantations are nearby. My home is four miles (five minute drive) from the Jamestown Ferry. The ferry ride is normally about 20 minutes and is free.

  • Nikky is a wonderful host. She responded quickly, showed me around when I arrived, and prepped my coffee for the next morning. Her place reflects her and her travels and felt cozy and comfortable. It’s a few minutes’ drive to the Williamsburg Ferry and a pleasant hour’s drive to Great Dismal. The room was very clean as was the bathroom.

Beautiful efficiency hotel room overlooking Gray's Creek in Surry, VA with separate living and sleeping rooms. Private queen bed with walkin closet. Living area with pull out queen size sofa. Kitchenette with refrigerator and microwave in each room. Situated above a very nice seafood restaurant. Private balcony overlooks the marina and marshes. Fishing pier and public boat launch on site. Sleeps 4. Private entrance. 5.3% Sales tax will be added to final pricing per local laws.
Couple of things to note that there isn't room for in the summary. This is an apartment style hotel room. It has a separate bedroom with queen bed, a modest to small living area with a queen size sleeper sofa and comfortable chair with ottoman. We feature Direct TV and have HBO as well (Channel 501 and up :)). There is a small balcony big enough for two to hang out on, but no chairs on the balcony. The views from here are outstanding and the area is wonderfully quiet with the sounds of frogs being the main noises heard. There is a dining room table for four as well as a kitchenette. There is no stove, but microwave only and an under counter refrigerator. We do provide plates, cups and silverware for four guests. We love what we do and this is truly a unique location. We offer this description to be honest about what to expect if you stay with us and truly hope you enjoy your time in Surry County! Last but not least, we are required to collect sales tax for your stay. The local tax is 5.3%. Airbnb does not collect this so we will reach out to you as your reservation nears. As the saying goes, nothing is guaranteed but death and taxes. Luckily, we are only required to get one of these during your stay and have chosen taxes ;) If there is anything we have left out or any questions you may have, please ask. Thanks again for looking at our property!
  • Such a hidden gem. Quiet, picturesque, and impeccably clean. Had my morning coffee while watching the eagles and ospreys. Our family loves this place.

    Mike2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice place. Free parking onsite. Very close to the ferry. Nice view and very clean. The remotes of the TV are not easy to play with.

  • Incredibly clean and comfortable space with a beautiful view. Having the restaurant downstairs is also super convenient and the food was great.

    Kalu2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • This place is clean and well kept. I loved the decorations and location.

  • Great place, perfectly comfortable for two of us. Loved waking up to the view of the water!

    Lisa2019-12-07T00:00:00Z
  • We have stayed in Surry Seafood Company before and loved the location and the food in the restaurant is very good. Have eaten there many times. Room 1 has amazing views from both the bedroom and living room area. Incredibly spacious and clean with nice amenities. Reasonably priced for what you get. Host was very accommodating. We love staying here and will be back again in the future.

    Cathy2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to stay if you are looking for a relaxing, clean place to stay. It is larger than I expected from the description and four of us stayed there comfortably. We were on bikes and it is conveniently located within a couple of miles of the ferry and over a decent seafood restaurant with a super friendly staff. It had coffee and an array of toiletries in case we forgot anything. I highly recommend for people looking for a basic room/living area with a spectacular view.

  • Lovely getaway on Surry. The house is literally around the corner from the free ferry. Add an extra 30 min to your travel time then sit back and enjoy the ride . Easy trip to historic areas. In fact you drive right past Jamestown Settlement, definitely worth seeing! Renee's place was comfortable, the temperature was perfect, and the kitchen was a bonus. We enjoyed being right on the lake and loved the view. We definitely recommend this hideaway! Great value too. Renee was quick to respond to text message.

    Lori2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to get away. We enjoyed the beautiful view. It is only a few minutes from the ferry and a short drive to some great destinations. We especially enjoyed the swing overlooking the river. The apartment is clean and has everything you would need. We highly recommend this apartment and will definitely visit again. Of note is that there are no stairs to access the apartment from the driveway and the shower is walk-in, so if you require accommodations for mobility, it is easy to navigate.

  • I loved this place across the river from Williamsburg. It's amazing and getting to drink coffee and gaze out on the water was what I needed.

    Robert2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • WOW. This place was incredible. Right on the water, just like the pictures. I have to say that for the price, we were expecting a dump but this place was GORGEOUS. Super easy self checkin, lots of space, sparkling clean, gorgeous views, and only a 5 min. drive from the Jamestown Ferry (highly recommend using this to get to Williamsburg). The bathrooms were stocked with tons of travel supplies and the bedroom is a separate room, which is great for light sensitive sleepers. The communication was good too and we received a message a couple days before with all the details we needed. The whole place is lovely and we will most definitely be back.

  • Great location, amenities, view—highly recommend!

    Dena2019-12-09T00:00:00Z
  • The view was amazing. The deck was so relaxing. The pictures are accurate to what the place really looks like. Bring oatmeal or breakfast foods because the only sit down breakfast is 30 min away. There is gas station breakfast available closer. The restaurant below is great for lunch or dinner. I would definitely stay there again in a heartbeat if I was in the area again.

    Victoria2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • This location and space was amazing. Access to ferry was right down the road to get you to Williamsburg! Excellent restaurant below-beautiful scenic room- very private. Couldn't asked for better!

Thank you for checking out the home we lived in for 13 years. It is an 1800 square foot modular with 2 full bath and 4 bedrooms on 3/4 of an acre. We have a queen bed in the master bedroom, 2 twins in 2 bedrooms & a single twin in the 4th bedroom. So we have beds for 7 people. We don't mind if you bring an 8th guest and use the couch or bring your own air mattress. We actually have another bonus room for air mattresses or cots. NOTE: The hot water heater can handle about 4-5 quick, less than 5 minute showers. After that it gets chilly quickly and you have to give it close to an hour to catch up. Good luck:-) It has a master bedroom with its own bathroom and small walk in closet. The master bedroom has a queen size bed. Two other bedrooms have 2 twin beds and another bedroom has a single twin bed. Each room has closets and dressers. It has a large front and back yard and is surrounded on 3 sides with forest. There is a fire pit you are welcome to use. We have chairs available and a limited supply of chopped wood and a limitless supply in the woods. Straight back from the house a driveway cuts through the woods, please do not cross the driveway. We live locally and are in the process of improving the property inside and out. We welcome dogs for an extra fee. The house does have a covered back porch to relax on and has a gas grill on it. The porch has a locking latch on it so you can leave your dog outside in a locked in area at night or while you're out and about. It DOES get hot even though its covered. There is a nearby spigot to give your dog fresh water. We do ask that unless your dog really sticks close by you don't let them roam free about the neighborhood for your dogs safety and consideration for our neighbors. Our closest neighbors to our right ARE fearful of dogs and we had to make sure ours were in our yard at all times. We have NEVER had fleas. Please do not bring dogs with fleas, PLEASE! Please walk them on a leash if they are prone to running off. We lost 2 dogs over the years that made it out to the road. The house has central air and heat that will keep you very cool in the summer and nice & warm in the winter. PLEASE PLEASE do not lower the AC lower than 72 and if you're leaving for long periods of time please bump it up to 78 degrees. It will remain cool and you can bump it back down when you come back. You adjust the thermostat by holding the arrow in the direction you want to go until it blinks and then push it again the number of times needed. The fireplace/wood stove is temporarily out of commission. The kitchen amenities include full size fridge, electric full size stove and oven, large microwave, pots, pans, dishes, silverware, kitchen table, and a furnished living room with TV and DVD player. We do not have cable, satellite, or WIFI at this time. We are trying to get an antenna that will give you a decent amount of local and national channels but we do not have that yet. Williamsburg is a peaceful and FREE ferry ride across the James River. Our driveway is 1.7 miles from the ferry. You can Google Jamestown/Scotland ferry for the schedule. Basically, it runs every half hour but during peak hours it runs approximately every 20 minutes and between 8 pm and 5 am it runs every hour, at the top of the hour on the Surry side and bottom of the hour for the Jamestown side. Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown Museum and Settlement, Bush Gardens, Water Country USA, and tons of restaurants can be found just on the other side of the river. Virginia Beach is about an hour away as is Richmond. So, you can come stay with us and have a ton of places to visit in any direction while resting in our quiet comfortable place in the woods. About 10 minutes away is a 7-11, Dollar General, Chinese food place called Chens Asian Grill. We have an excellent seafood restaurant called Surry Seafood very close by as well. The town of Smithfield, home of the world famous Smithfield Ham is about 20 to 25 minutes away. Smithfield has a Foodlion and coming soon, a Kroger. Smithfield is a quaint town and had several good restaurants and a brewery. The brewery is called Warfhill. Restaurants include Q Daddy's Pitmaster which is awesome barbecue. Smithfield Station which is a very good casual restaurant with great seafood and deck seating. There are a plethora of fast food joints as well. There is a town about 30 minutes southwest called Wakefield and that town has a high concentration of antique stores. We are new to VRBO and Homeaway and will continue improve our home and service. We would appreciate your opinion as to how we can make your stay more enjoyable and comfortable. Please let us know and GOD BLESS! Bill, Pam, and Chloe Andrulot

We have a quiet rural neighborhood with neighbors not so close.
  • William's home is cozy country! His description is accurate and honest. If you're concerned about updated modern living and technology then this isn't for you. This home is cozy and clean, providing basic necessities to enjoy a country like comfortable and relaxing stay. Although secluded, we had a quick 5 minute drive to ferry access bringing us to local tourist spots. We have a family of 5 and dogs. It was nice to be able to enjoy a vacation with the whole family including the fur babies! William even told us about local spots we could affordably enjoy and made himself available if we needed anything or had any questions. We highly recommend William's home for anyone looking to enjoy a relaxing Virginia stay!

  • This house is very spacious and was very clean. Very large quiet yard set back. Swing set for the kids. If your quiet, you will see the deer.

  • Private, beautiful, great location, spacious, warm and inviting...

  • William’s home was very clean and exactly as described. William was very responsive and he even helped us out with an issue with the WiFi. Great guy and great home. Don’t hesitate to stay at William’s home if you are planning to stay in the Surry, VA area.

    Mike2019-06-04T00:00:00Z
  • This home in Surry has a very quiet country setting and is also a good central location for exploring the many natural and historic sites on the lower peninsular. Besides Jamestown and Yorktown there are many wildlife refuges and historic towns, homes, and churches to visit on both sides of the James River. The ferry ride across the river is an exciting way to start a day of adventure and is relaxing at the end of a busy day of exploring and learning. The house is well-appointed and is very spacious. We particularly enjoyed having the grill to prepare easy dinners. We were able to leave our small dog on the fenced porch. This home is good value for the price. I highly recommend a stay here.

    Antonia2019-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommended, if you are looking for Relaxation, place for children, for partying, and more

    Omar2019-03-31T00:00:00Z
  • We booked this stay with just 12 hours notice due to a family emergency that required us to travel from Pennsylvania to Virginia on just two hours of sleep. William was great about hopping into action to ensure that everything was ready to go for us. He called us within 15 minutes of booking the property for a week, and by the time we arrived, everything was all set up and clean. William even came over to help us locate the "jet pack," which is used to connect to the internet (the previous guests had placed it in a random drawer). This property is ideal for those seeking quiet and privacy. It is spacious and comfortable. The kitchen has everything that you might need, and there are even some movies available on DVD, too. The washer and dryer are new and modern. It was great having them available. The HVAC system works just fine, and the heat is adjustable to your needs. Six minutes down the road is a 7-11 in what seems to be the center of town. The employees there were very friendly -- always offering to brew a fresh pot of coffee. The scenery surrounding the area is about a picturesque as we have seen anywhere. The roads all around are well-paved and safe. The nearest grocery store is a Food Lion -- about 25 minutes away. The selection of goods there was very good -- they even stocked Kombucha, which was great because my wife and I had colds throughout the entire trip. Thanks again to William and his family for making our stay so pleasant.

Unplug in the country and yet a ferry ride five miles to the Jamestown Fort and city of Williamsburg with its unique amenities, and historic sites ie: Busch Gardens, Water Country, College of Wm. & Mary, theater, museums, shopping and great restaurants.
This private spot amongst the trees is extremely peaceful. The only thing you might hear is the fog horn of the ferry when there is fog on the river. There are separate places to steal away with friend, lover or sister. And there are areas where all can be together in comfort. Moving back to simpler times.
Youngsters can use the road which is asphalt to skateboard on with little to no traffic or take the skateboard or roller blades to Chippokes State Park for a hike. ou can walk to the beach or drive. We don't provide bikes, but one could have a good time with a bike.
  • This home is quaint and inviting. The property is secluded and beautiful with access to a private beach. The hostess, Jaunita, was so thoughtful and gave local suggestions for eating and shopping. The ferry is super close and free with a 24 hour schedule. It's a great property for families.

  • My family and I stayed at Juanita's for my son's wedding nearby. As this was my first experience with staying at an Airbnb, I wasn't too sure what to expected and hoped for the best. My faith in Juanita was deeply rewarded. Not only was the home clean, warm, and beautiful, it was obvious she made every effort to make sure her guests felt welcome and cared for with numerous touches and thoughtful notes. You cannot see any other homes, the grounds are gorgeous and peaceful, hummingbirds flew outside the windows, and we had enough space to gather as well as be alone. Juanita was quick to respond to any questions and was a gracious host. I highly recommend her Airbnb.

  • Private, charming and a five minute stroll to the beach. My eight year old daughter swam every single day and had the entire beach to herself. The water was warm and very calm. She found giant scallop shells and fossils and never wanted to leave. The home had everything we needed, especially in the kitchen. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms had plenty of towels, shampoo, body wash, etc. Surry Seafood Company had beautiful views and delicious food. The King’s Arms Tavern in Colonial Williamsburg and sailing on the Yorktown Schooner Alliance were raving successes and we picked pounds of blueberries at College Run Farms. This is the perfect home base for the Historic Triangle if you can pry your kids away from the water. The free ferry ride is a good incentive. We will be recommending Holly Ridge to everyone making a trip to Williamsburg or Busch Gardens and we can’t wait to return ourselves.

  • Great host. Beautiful home in country. Close to ferry to jamestown. Comfortable, clean. Would stay again if in area.

    Karen2019-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • Juanita and her home were both absolutely amazing!! We can wait to come back to the area and would never stay anywhere else! The short walk to the beach was so nice, and the location was ideal for what we needed. Close enough to everything for convenience but far enough away to feel relaxed.

    Eric2019-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • This is a truly special place...from the cook’s kitchen to the solitude of the beach hidden on the edge of a mature forest, this is an extraordinary find. The proprietors are quick I communicate and their hospitality is exceptional. One of the most relaxing and comfortable getaways I’ve ever had!

    Jared2018-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Where do I begin about this incredible house? I would have to start with it’s host Jaunita. From the moment we booked her property, she was sending welcome messages, and giving out all the information we could possibly need about her home, and the surrounding areas. She even helped us plan our route down, and told us the best places to eat and get supplies. She did an excellent job of staying in contact during our stay to make sure we had everything we needed. Juanita had stated that she wanted her place to feel like a welcoming relatives house, and that is EXACTLY what it felt like. We felt warm and comfy the moment we walked in the door with our group of 10. She even welcomed our little children, and they loved Miss Juanita’s house! We all had plenty of room, and didn’t need for a single thing while visiting. She supplied everything we needed for our stay including kitchen supplies, dishwasher, and washer/dryer. Her 6 acre property is an absolute paradise far enough from the hustle and bustle, but minutes to the free ferry, which takes you straight across to Williamsburg. She is right on a private beach, with warm calm waters, and lots of shells to explore without the crowds!! Her property was always quiet, and the gardens had a variety of dragonflies, butterflies, and caterpillars for the kids to discover. We had a blast visiting the surrounding areas, including Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens/Water Country, and Chippoke State park (minutes from her house!). If you are considering a Williamsburg visit far away from the busy city, I cannot recommend this home enough. Thank you Miss Juanita! : )

  • Outstanding in every way! If you are looking for a relaxing, beautiful, and elegant stay, this is the place. Tammy’s home has everything you could possibly need, and the view is breathtaking. The windows in the home bring the outside in, and the sunsets are wonderful. The outside deck is more expansive than the pictures indicate—tons of place to take in the view. Our toddlers had a blast too, so this home is very kid-friendly. The kitchen is magnificent and it is a delight to see multiple bald eagles soaring by each day. The ferry is only a few minutes away and runs constantly, so it is not difficult to get to Williamsburg or Busch Gardens. We would definitely return!

    Jason2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • A gorgeous, spacious, immaculate home with utterly lovely views. We spent lots of time on the deck enjoying the breezes. Comfy beds, soft towels, kitchen well stocked with cookware and dishes. No breakfast, though coffee and tea are provided. An Airb rather than an Airbnb. And bring your own spices.

  • I loved this place so much that I wrote a haiku about it: Morning dew silence Waterside meditations Kayaks left me right

  • You know you picked the right vacation home when everyone is sad to leave.... that was how my family felt today checking out! What a beautiful house in such a relaxing location. My two little boys loved fishing in the creek and hunting for crabs everyday. We took the kayaks out and discovered a little sandy beach down the creek that my boys loved finding shells at. So close to Williamsburg attractions (across the ferry) and just a short drive to ocean front beaches. Perfect house to escape to at the end of an event filled day! Tammy and Rick were wonderful hosts and provided wonderful communication and guidance leading up to and throughout our stay. Thank you for making my first Air Bnb experience a dream!!!

  • Five stars! A great place to stay. You'll love the house and the tranquility of the country location. Can't say enough good things.

  • Tammy and Franklin have a great place and are awesome host. We will stay again. The house was in the best quite little hide away from Williamsburg. Super clean very nice.

  • TEN stars if I could! This house is like one of those little pleasant surprises! The pictures do not do it justice. Beautiful inside and out. Small details, such as labeling light switches and family board games was an extra special touch. We had everything we needed for a relaxing, family stay. Beds are very comfortable. Rooms are spacious with all the closet space you could ever need. The views are SPECTACULAR. Cellular service was spotty for us, but that was not a problem as the WiFi at the house worked great as well! Large kitchen with everything we needed for cooking. The deck was wonderful for having morning coffee while looking out at the river and spotting eagles flying over head. Wish we had more time to go out on the kayaks and explore the creek some more. Tammy was an excellent host, very sweet & kind. Great communicator. The trip into Jamestown and/or Williamsburg was easy. The only thing I would advise future guests is to check the ferry schedule and allow an extra 20-30 minutes to get across the river. We had an amazing stay. Thanks again Tammy!!

Enjoy relaxing in this spacious vacation home that sits high above the banks of the James River directly across from Historical Jamestown Island. Less than 1/2 mile from the Jamestown Ferry and only 12 miles from Colonial Williamsburg & Busch Gardens, this home has a private fishing pier with amazing sunrises and sunsets. Enjoy the outdoors from 3 large decks and watch wildlife including bald eagles that fly along the river's edge & roost in the tall pines.
Great for families, couples, a retreat with good friends, or a romantic get-away.
Our neighborhood is a quaint mix of riverfront homes that includes full time residents and weekend vacation home owners. The quickest and easiest access to Williamsburg from the river house is via the free Jamestown-Scotland ferry which runs 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
  • Beautiful home with unbelievable views! The house was perfect for our party and we couldn't have asked for a better place to spend our time while in Williamsburg area

    Andrew2019-12-07T00:00:00Z
  • We were impressed with the thought and detail that went into making the River House a very pleasant place to stay. The home was extremely well stocked, uniquely decorated, and had enough space for a large family to comfortably fit. We enjoyed the movie room, the view of the river, and how close we were to the ferry into Williamsburg! Our hosts communicated with us well to ensure our stay went smoothly. Definitely recommend! (FYI: There is no wifi or cable).

  • Great house-spacious, clean, modern! Great location with views of the water and wonderful outdoor spaces to relax with a glass of wine after a day of exploring Williamsburg. We were there on a girls getaway- so much to see in nearby Colonial Williamburg- very easy, short drive with a quick ferry ride across the James river. Ellie and Brent were easy to contact, friendly and the house was equipped with all the modern amenities plus special touches (Wine and chocolates upon arrival!!) We had a great long weekend in VA! Would highly recommend this house:)

  • This house is even better than you can imagine. Hosts are so thoughtful--and great decorators! Photos and description are accurate. The house had everything we needed and all was high quality. Was the perfect spot for our family reunion. We were able to seat 11 at our afternoon BBQ and easily slept up to 7 adults. It's a nice, quiet spot.

    Susan2019-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Elli and Brent’s River Home was so beautiful the view was amazing. The minute we got to the house we felt so comfortable it was like a magical feeling. Brent and Elli’s decor was so beautiful their home was so clean and accommodating to everyone. The adults got to relax and the kids loved the movie room they watched movies played games and ate lots of popcorn. We were surprised how stocked the house was with everything we really didn’t need to bring much. Everything was labeled and they left the most easiest instructions on how everything worked and where to find everything we needed. We enjoyed swimming in the river cooking, relaxing on the decks watching the beautiful views. Elli and Brent’s river house was our best short family vacation we’ve had it was perfect we can’t say enough about our stay there and appreciated Brent and Elli’s quick responses and their suggestions on everything. We thank them for a great weekend and wonderful hospitality we would love to go back again and again.

  • What a beautiful location for a vacation with the family. The view of the river with the ferry so close was fantastic. There really was something for everyone. Whether it was floating in the water, catching fish at the dock or having coffee with the sunrise...it was relaxing. The movie theatre room in the house has inspired us to do the same in our finished basement. Our hosts were welcoming and attentive. My kids did not want to leave.

    Maryellen2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Host was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. House was spotless and stocked with everything you may need for vacation. Host was only a phone call away if needed. Being so close to ferry was beneficial since we got to cross the river anytime we needed and explore Jamestown. It was nice to unplug and spend time with family and enjoy the beautiful view. Theater room was awesome.

  • This is one of the most beautiful homes we have ever stayed in! It is right on the water with a Panoramic view to watch the ferry and many eagles and egrets to watch! Ellie and Brent could not have been more available and accommodating and the house could not have been better stocked!

We have had cancellations due to guests not wanting to fly because of the virus. However, for those looking for a safe, clean place apart from the present crisis, Lightwood is ideal. The house sits on over 100 secluded and private acres. A beautiful place to safely wait things out. Lightwood, Williamsburg area, is in rural Surry County, on the south side of the James River from Williamsburg and Jamestown. A beautifully restored eighteenth-century house, with over 2 miles of hiking trails.
Please note: from April 11 through May18 we have instituted a two week minimum. Our regular minimum is 3 nights. Lightwood is the perfect blend of history and nature. A completely unique historic property, this house is as close to a small, historic eighteenth-century English country house as one can find in this country. This is not surprising, however, considering that when the earliest section of the house was built, Virginia was still a part of the British Empire. Lightwood is elegant, and although much of the furniture and artwork can be dated to the seventeenth- and eighteenth centuries, the house is also extremely comfortable and cozy. Children are most welcome at this exceptional property, and it is a great adventure for them to explore the nooks and crannies of the house as well as the surrounding outdoor landscape. The magnificent forest, with many trees over two hundred years old, envelops the house in a warm and welcoming embrace, and through it meander over two miles of private hiking trails, passing through fields and alongside streams, up hill and down ravine. Be sure to enquire about our Treasure Hunt quest in ancient Lightwood Forest! For children, and for grown ups who are still young at heart, join a search for the Treasure hidden by fairies, who, according to legend, came from far-off Scotland centuries ago and settled amongst the ancient beeches, poplars, and oaks in Lightwood Forest. Be on the lookout for an ancient parchment scroll, beribboned and heavily weathered, which contains, lore be told, a mysterious treasure map, containing fascinating and elusive clues to the location of the treasure itself. This treasure, protected through the centuries by ancient fairy magic, lies within a wooden chest that verily brims with a stupendous hoard of jewelry and sundry other baubles, which can be shared and taken home, with, of course, all the good luck and very best wishes forever and ever from the fairies! This one-of-a-kind and once-in-a-lifetime experience, for adventurers young and old, costs $250.
Surry County is a traditional rural Tidewater Virginia county. While the property is rural, the small town of Surry is only one mile away.
  • Staying at Lightwood is an experience. If you've spent a very long spell living in the suburbs or the city, then this place across the ferry from Williamsburg (more or less) will provide the balance you most assuredly will need. Cliff was a great host and he succeeded in sending us back into the 18th century while at the same time providing 21st century ammenities. He took great care to place iconic artwork, accessories and furniture in each room thus so, and we always felt we had stepped back in time. Except for the wi-fi. Which we were rather happy to have at the ready.

• We enjoyed our stay in this beautiful space. The view is just beautiful; the room was perfect & clean; the restaurant downstairs was delicious & offered excellent service; the location was perfect proximity to the ferry-- a short 15min ride to Williamsburg!! A perfect weekend get away for our family of four!

  • This is a nice little gem. We stayed there to be close to attend a wedding in Chippokes State Park. Great place to stay, nice views, good food in the restaurant downstairs. Plenty of coffee in the room. Would stay again, highly recommend.

  • Great location overlooking the marina at Gray's Creek. There is a wonderful restaurant below the clean and spacious apartment where you will be staying. • 4.5/5 starts. This was overall a great place to stay. The restaurant below is a saving grace. The friendly staff, great food and tremendous views from the outside deck were amazing! The photos are a bit misleading because for rooms 2,3 and 4 they show views from room 1, which is on the sunset side of the marsh with windows. I rented room 4 and would've just saved the $50 extra and went with room 2 or 3. If staying here, rent room #1 if it's available. Upon checking in, the code to enter our room didn't work so I had to go down to the restaurant and get someone to redo the code and get me into the room. They were super friendly about it and helpful but it added an extra unnecessary 10 minutes onto the wait to get into the room and a tiny bit of headache after a long drive to get there. Mistakes happen though. Overall the room was clean but the linoleum flooring was a little sticky and the bathroom floor was unbearably sticky, which was a little unsettling as to why it was just the bathroom that was so incredibly sticky. It's was so sticky I had to keep my shoes on the entire time. That issue definitely needs to be addressed. But there was good attention to detail, like folding the toilet paper, having coffee there, the towels and bed were clean, no bugs anywhere which I was worried about being on the marsh. I can't say enough about the restaurant down below. That was such a great experience sitting out on the deck as the sun was going down. The food was amazing and views spectacular. Order yourself a Route 31 ... or 2 or 3 of them 😉 I would stay here again but personally would opt for Room #1 for the amazing sunset views out over the marsh.

    Dustin2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • The rooms were clean, comfortable, and had an amazing view of the docks & the water; all just as advertised. Worth a visit just for the view and the wonderful seafood at the restaurant. It was not noisy, & there was no odor from the restaurant directly below our room. Really delightful.

    Rebecca2019-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • To be honest, we didn't spend much time in our room. We arrived late and left early every morning. The area is clean and quiet. The room was much bigger than I was expecting. Sometimes at night though we were woken by restaurant equipment humming beneath us, as the rooms are directly above a restaurant, though it closes early and we never heard customers. I would return here if I visit family at the college.

    Natalie2019-05-12T00:00:00Z
  • This is by far the best AirBnB I've stayed in. The room itself is really lovely and clean but the views were incredible. We really enjoyed sitting out on the deck and watching the sunset and were sad that we were only staying one night. We're already talking about coming back.

    Whitney2019-05-05T00:00:00Z
  • This place is clean and has everything you need. Beautiful view above a decent seafood restaurant, yet the room doesn’t smell fishy. You’ll love the big, fluffy towels and it’s only a 15 minute drive from a national park. Be sure to catch the sunset from your balcony.

    Lorelei2019-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • What an awesome location! Put my stuff upstairs in my room, then came downstairs to the restaurant to have a delicious dinner and watch a beautiful sunset over the marsh.

    Allie2019-04-25T00:00:00Z
  • This place was a thoroughly pleasant surprise! (Had not known of it’s existence even though we used to live in the Tidewater area for a while.) There are 4 apartments above a fairly quiet seafood restaurant overlooking marshy water and boat docks. There was happy bird life to watch and listen to, with folks pulling up in boats to enjoy the restaurant’s delicious food. Minutes from Jamestown Ferry Landing.

    Mike2019-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • This place us exactly as advertised. It is a beautiful location! The room is extremely clean and the views are spectacular. We enjoyed our meal on the deck during sunset. I would highly recommend an overnight visit after dinner at the restaurant.

Several historical plantations are nearby. My home is four miles (five minute drive) from the Jamestown Ferry. The ferry ride is normally about 20 minutes and is free.

  • We had a great stay at Keith’s. It was spacious, quiet and very clean. He even accommodated us with our request to check-in late in the evening. The fridge, microwave and coffee in the room were a very big plus as well. What a treat! No wonder he’s a superhost! 👍🏻 We will surely be staying with him the next time we are in the area. Highly recommended!

  • René is an amazing host and she answers all questions you may have. The house is stunning and it’s more than I would expect from an Airbnb house. The location is great and the views are amazing as well. Highly recommend this house

  • Incredible value for such a beautiful stay! Everything was perfect.

    Jacob2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • The view for this place is incredible. Rene is very thoughtful and left snacks for us. She communicates regularly and easily. The location is very convenient to get to the ferry which is actually quite nice and runs quite often. The house is very clean and organized. Simply being there is mentally relieving. We had an awesome time!

    Simone2019-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Our recent stay at Rene’s place was amazing. The unique floor plan provided space indoors and out for entertainment. Our granddaughter loved the swing, I preferred relaxing on the upper deck, all enjoyed nightly games, s’mores by the fire pit, a night of fireworks across the river. The ferry was just a couple miles away and we never had to wait more than a few mins, then an easy drive to Williamsburg. Rene was quick to answer any questions we had. There was a welcome basket of wine and snacks which was very thoughtful. Having two kitchens was great. The best part is the river view, from the decks, kitchen, family room and esp. from the kitchen table...definitely good for the soul!

  • We had an absolutely amazing time. Our daughters boyfriend proposed to her by the river James so it will always be a special place for us. The house is beautiful and with a fantastic deck that over looks the River. Rene was a fantastic host, quick to respond and left us a lovely welcome basket.

  • What a beautiful house with a great view. The breakfast nook overlooking the James River quickly became our favorite spot in the home. We went swimming in the James most days, and had a great time. For transportation we used the free, nearby Ferry almost every day to get to Jamestown, Williamsburg and Yorktowne. We were impressed with the 50 vehicle capacity and we never had to wait for a later ferry. Rene was a great host, and quickly answered any questions. We may be back in the coming years.

  • Great location, excellent water view, spacious, it was a fantastic week! Highly recommend!!!

    Susan2019-06-08T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing! We spent five very busy days in D.C. and wanted to experience Williamsburg and Jamestown at a little slower pace. We were all blown away by the view from the house and even out on the lawn. At low tide we looked for shells on the shore. The kayaks were so much fun. We loved the bird watching and the breathtaking sunrise. The auto ferry is 2 minutes away and takes you right to Jamestown. We planned ahead and brought groceries with us and picked some up on the way back from Williamsburg since we knew grocery stores were not super close by. The house is gorgeous and Rene has great tips, instructions and gets back to you right away. She even had a little gift basket of goodies and wine when we arrived. Our party of six adults had the best time and would highly highly recommend this home!

There are two bedrooms - one with a queen bed and the second with a double size antique maple four poster bed. Each bedroom has reading lamps. an alarm clock, flashlight, luggage rack, and usb port built into the electric outlets. Modern design enthusiasts will fall in love with the fully appointed sleek, white IKEA kitchen, original vintage Danish teak furniture, and eye popping fabric throughout the entire cottage. In fact, every single piece of furniture has been reupholstered in 2015 in fabulous vintage inspired designs. Bold color is carried into the bathroom with a European-designed, 50 inch green glass countertop. We have even extended this mid-century revival through to the lighting. Look up to see funky vintage chrome ball Lightolier track lights that you will want to take home with you--but please don't! Dine in style with a sputnik, mid-century-inspired chandelier above the Danish teak dining table. From Laurel mushroom lamps in the bedroom to the one-of-a-kind European industrial orange floor lamp in the living room, every light fixture is vintage and chosen with great care to embody the mid-century spirit. Other high end touches include Waterworks faucet in the kitchen and towel warmer in the bathroom, Hansgrohe bathroom fixtures, Bosch dishwasher, Toto toilet with soft close toilet seat, usb outlets for your electronics, a flat screen TV with DVD player, luxury linens, terry robes, bath toiletries, and basic cooking spices. Test your skills at finding shark teeth among the shells in the waterline! The Weber gas grill on the beach, right outside the sun porch door, provides easy beach-front meal preparation. The 180 foot pier has a great picnic table at one of the end decks over the river for river dining. The sun porch also has a handy beverage frig for easy access to whatever libations suit you.
This little beach community is one of the best kept secrets in Tidewater Virginia. These homes all sit on land that was part of the original grant given to John Rolfe (Pocahontas' husband) in the early 17th century. Now these cottages are occupied by a mix of full-time and seasonal owners. This cottage was parents and has been in my family since 1948, as have the two on either side, which belonged to Aunts and Uncles. I now own the three of them, so you are guaranteed to not be surrounded by grouchy neighbors!

    Williamsburg, VA, United States

Jamestown-Williamsburg Area. Our cottage is located on land once owed by John Rolfe, husband of Pocohantas, who established the tobacco cash crop in Virginia in the 1600s. The actual site of the 1607 Jamestown fort is right across the river-in view with the naked eye. Wonderful private sand beach, private pier, kayaks, fishing gear, beach chairs, beach towels, waterfront deck w/gas grill. Direct water & beach access just 20 ft from cottage. Shallow river offers great place for children to play.
The living room, dining room and kitchen are an open L-shaped floor plan to maximize space. A flat screen TV and dvd player are in the living room area. The cottage is delightful and the location is wonderful - very close to all the historic and entertainment sites in the area. Central heat and air make the cottage a year round destination. We provide luxury bed and bath linens, terry cloth robes, beach towels, and bath toiletries and paper products for the bath and kitchen. Basic cooking spices are also provided. Each bedroom has a ceiling fan, fluffy pillows, reading light, flash light, alarm clock, and wide wooden window blinds. There are hardwood floors throughout the cottage. The cottage has new Pella windows and an HVAC system to provide air conditioning and heat. The bathroom has the original 1948 vintage claw foot bath tub with new in-tub stationary shower and hand shower, heated towel rack, soft close Toto toilet seat, ceiling heater, exhaust fan, ceiling night light, beautiful stained glass mirror, and a wall of glass turquoise tile. The full kitchen has custom made cabinets, carrara marble countertops, a ceramic stovetop range, Bosch dishwasher, trash compactor, refrigerator with ice maker, vintage farmhouse sink original to the 1948 cottage, and microwave and is stocked with basic cooking spices and paper products for your convenience. The kitchen is fully equipped with high quality items and cooking essentials including Keurig coffee maker, French Press, toaster, electric hand mixer, crockpot, dinnerware and glassware including wine glasses, flatware and cookware. Our two James River cottages walk right out to the beach with no steps to climb and are 15-20 minutes from Historic Jamestown and Colonial Williamsburg via the free Jamestown-Scotland Car Ferry at your doorstep. The location is fabulous. It is the closest location to historic Jamestown and Williamsburg of any of the other river locations. Combine the best of historic sight seeing with a wonderful beachfront setting. Water views can be seen out of three sides of the cottage. Enjoy our waterside deck that runs the full width of the cottage and has a gas grill, dining table and chairs, and chairs for relaxing and watching the river sights. The ferry dock is literally right by the cottage. The free car ferry is operated by the VA Dept of Transportation and operates 24 hours a day. The ferry is not noisy and provides lots of entertainment for children (or adults) who like to sit on the beach or deck and count the cars going on and off. You just drive your car on and are directed where to park. The ferry provides an easy, quick and fun 15 minute ride across the river. When the ferry docks at the opposite side of the river (at Jamestown), Williamsburg is 4 miles straight down the road (about 5 min.), and it takes fewer than 15 minutes to get to Busch Gardens. Yorktown, the site of the end of the Revolutionary War, is a about a 20 minute drive from Jamestown down the lovely Colonial Parkway. The entrance to Jamestown Settlement is at the end of the Jamestown Ferry Pier. Watch for the replicas of the three ships that sailed to Virginia in 1607 (the Susan Constant, Godspeed, and the Discovery) that are docked in the river to your right as you exit the ferry pier. The James River is a tidal river and is clean and shallow near the beach. The tide comes in and goes out very slowly every 12 hours, so it is great for children to play in. We are close to the salt water of the Chesapeake Bay so the water in the James River is "brackish" water - partly salty and partly freshwater. There are no jellyfish in the James River. Our waterfront cottage is a luxury beach cottage recently renovated to provide a wonderful, relaxing retreat. Shimmering sea glass colors of teal, turquoise, and lavender complement the original vintage tongue and groove knotty pine paneling walls, incredible water views, sand beach and luxury amenities to provide a wonderful alternative to hotel living. The cottage is furnished with lovely antique beds, mirrors, and a dressing table made by the owners grandfather who was a cabinetmaker and antique dealer in Petersburg, VA during the early 1900s. Original vintage brass wall lights and mirrors are in each bedroom. Vases of fresh flowers from the garden are available almost year round. Our cottage is a private, romantic, luxury beach cottage on the James River with direct water access, wide river views, private 180 foot pier, kayaks, fishing poles, and private white sand beach. The cottage is level with the beach so there are no steps to climb to reach the beach. Just walk out the French Doors to your water-side deck, and the beach is about 20 feet away. Our cottage is a perfect size for a couple but works equally well for a small family of four or five. It can accommodate up to five people with three cozy bedrooms - one with a queen bed, one with a double bed, and the third bedroom with a twin day bed. Our two James River cottages provide a rare setting for vacation rental cottages in the Colonial Williamsburg area. There are only five beachfront cottages available on the James River really close to Colonial Williamsburg for short term rental. Pay careful attention to the location of any riverfront cottage not on the James River as they are much farther away from the major historic sites.
Our cottage is located by the Historic Jamestown-Scotland Ferry which is a free car ferry that provides a delightful 15 minute ride across the river where it docks at Jamestown Settlement. With observation decks and lovely views, everyone loves the ferries -- especially children who can feed the seagulls bread off of the back of the boat. The ferry (there are several boats) runs 24/7 on a half hour schedule during the day and an hour schedule at night providing easy and fun access to historic and entertainment sites of Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown, Busch Gardens, Water Country USA, James River Plantations, The Williamsburg Winery and many other sites. Major Civil War attractions are also close by in Petersburg (an hour away) and Richmond (about an hour and 15 minutes away) and can be reached via Route 10 not using the ferry.
