Cob Cottage

Channel the pursuit of pause in this one-of-a-kind earth house. The cozy retreat was hand-sculpted using local and sustainable natural materials, and features a central living space with cantilevered slab stairs leading to the loft bedroom. Guests have access to the entire cottage and surrounding property. We live in the neighbouring house, and are happy to give advice or answer questions to help you make the most of your stay. The neighborhood is quite rural and mostly agricultural with several farms and a small private vineyard. The home is a 10 minute walk from the beach and a 20 minute walk from a family grocery and deli specializing in local organic produce. Mayne Island has a small community bus. Times and routes are limited, particularly in the winter. It will stop at the driveway. We also have an official hitch hiking system with signed Car Stops where you can wait for a ride. Usually you don't have to wait long. We are happy to offer pickup and drop off at the ferry dock as a courtesy to encourage car-free travellers, on days when the community bus is not running. Please let us know ahead of time that you'll be coming without your own transportation, and we will make sure that either we or the community bus (which will drop you off at our driveway) are there to meet you when your ferry arrives. The BC Ferries terminals near Victoria and Vancouver are easily reachable via public transit from their respective airports and downtowns.

Comfortable one bedroom cottage with sun-room (in the winter months it is very pleasant on a sunny day, allowing you to relax after a day of exploring the island). There is also a back patio with a great view overlooking the lower pasture and wetland. BBQ and comfortable outdoor furniture. On a hot day the patio offers good shade. It comfortably fits two and is centrally located. An easy 15 minute drive to most attractions. Dog friendly with pet fee (please reach out if you have questions).

Tawny’s place is special! It’s in a rural area that is not only beautiful but very quiet and peaceful too. At the same time it’s easy to drive to San Juan’s many attractions. Tawny goes above and beyond to make you feel right at home. She left a basket of treats on the counter for when we arrived. The house is immaculate. The bed is very comfortable and the kitchen has every culinary item one could ever want. If something comes up Tawny is readily available to help. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend! It truly is one of the nicest vacation homes we’ve start at.

Scott and Kim are lovely hosts and the little house is absolutely charming and comfortable, with thoughtful touches throughout. At the right time of year in this idyllic setting you'll wake to birdsong and tuck in to the muted chorus of frogs. A wonderful base for exploring San Juan Island or perfectly situated for the annual Lakedale Triathlon. We hope to return.

The cottage was very cozy and clean. It had a historic feel. It is a true Farm Stay with goats in a pasture right next door, as well as horses wandering peacefully in the pasture below. The evening, I arrived, I took a walk down the street to a beautiful wetland area. The cottage is located in absolutely idyllic surroundings. You're immersed in the sounds of nature. Katherine Ann was immediately available, when I accidentally locked myself out! Thank you for coming to the rescue, Katherine Ann! I would book this cottage again.

Chris and Tom are great hosts and let us check in 2 hours early, which was so appreciated after a day of travel with a child. The place offers a quiet, private stay that backs up to the woods on a nice property less than 10 minutes from Friday Harbor. Beds and couches were very comfortable and the kitchen was well-stocked. Really nice to have a washer and dryer in the unit also. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
