The house, grounds and location were all stunning. Full of quirky character and thoughtful details. The place had “heart”. We loved that there was a feeling of history. A great location to explore the rest of the island from. The hosts have created a really tranquil beautiful and eclectic garden within which the main house, bakery and annex are nestled into. Would definitely recommend for anyone wanting a holiday that’s a bit special and out of the ordinary A really unique and unusual spot to stay at the fraction of the price of a hotel. The bathroom was great- really good shower, lots of little extras such as loan of towels, parasol and coffee, tea (proper teabags) yogurt, honey and beer to make us welcome. Mark, whilst not being obtrusive was on hand at our arrival to check we were ok and show us around and was a very courteous and hospitable host. Checking we had everything we needed for a great stay. Definitely the Host with the Most!

In all our years of travelling, and there have been many, we've never experienced anything quite as rare and special as the Shepherd's Croft. The house is beautifully restored and decorated with exquisite taste, and its views over the coastline of Kythera are sublime. It's airy, comfortable, spotless, and totally private. Our charming hosts Petros and Clive took the greatest care and time settling us in and showing us, with the aid of a very large map, all the delights that Kythera had to offer. Although it was tempting to spend our days at the house soaking up that glorious view, we had a great time exploring the island's many treasures, from unspoilt beaches ( we had one entirely to ourselves) to enchanting villages and a range of excellent restaurants. Kythera has so far remained relatively untouched by mass tourism, which was very appealing to us. Our sadness at leaving was softened by having two wonderful new friends, a priceless collection of memories, and a plan to return.
