Places to stay in Maiden Rock
The Maiden Rock Barn is an ideal place to gather with friends, family or to spend some time alone. Located in the beautiful countryside of Maiden Rock township, Wisconsin at the top of Pine Creek Rustic Road known for it's great birding and trout stream, it is just a few miles from the Mississippi River/Lake Pepin. The Barn is a short drive from the river towns of Maiden Rock, Stockholm, and Pepin; 20 miles from Red Wing or Wabasha.
The 2009 barn was built to replicate the former 100 year old barn that stood here. The ground level 1500 sq ft apartment with private entrance and fireplace will accommodate up to 6 adults with Beautiful SW exposure and lots of sun in a light airy open floor plan. This vacation rental was just inspected and licensed by the state of Wisconsin.
The area is known for its wineries, orchards, galleries, restaurants and bakeries, but also for hiking, fishing, biking, kayaking, sailing and golfing in the warm months. During the winter it is popular for hunting, skiing (Downhill at the Coffee Mill ski hill in Wabasha, MN or Welch Village in Welch, MN; Cross Country at Cedar River Trail, WI or Frontenac State Park, MN), ice fishing, snowmobiling, and quilting in the winter. We are just 2 miles from Laura Ingalls Wilder birthsite!
  • Loved it here! This is our favorite area, and a great and beautiful place to stay made it even better! We will be back. The friendly dog was a plus as well!

  • We had a lovely stay at Brenda's place! It is a bit off the beaten path but is such a beautiful space and there were many thoughtful touches waiting for us inside. If we're ever back in that part of Wisconsin, we'd stay there again!

  • A beautiful location and a beautiful space.

    Melissa2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This was the perfect place to spend a cozy winter weekend away. Brenda’s place is beautifully decorated but still feels homey. And there’s a sweet pup onsite to boot!

    Kelsey2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful place to spend time with your spouse. It is decorated very nicely with more room than we expected. The fireplace was very romantic and added to the ambience. Brenda was very responsive to our messages and she made sure we had everything we needed for our stay. We are planning on returning in the fall to enjoy an outside fire and another romantic getaway!

  • Tidy and beautiful space. Great communication. Beautiful location.

    Joe2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at the Barn. It is beautifully decorated with lots of nice touches, like plenty of pillows and blankets, quality linens and pretty dishes. It was sparklingly clean. The location was very quiet and private, with nice scenery. We also enjoyed playing with Diedra the dog, the unofficial (and adorable) welcoming committee.

  • This is a beautiful space in a quiet setting. Amazing comfort and charm. Plus an adorable and loving dog 🐶💖

  • Excellent location and view! The house accommodates a family with children very well. Wade is great at communication!

    Erin2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • This house is beautiful. The view from the house is breathtaking even without the leaves. Once you are there you won't want to leave. Wade would respond to any questions in minutes and had great suggestions on places to visit. I will go back for sure.

  • I got married in Stockholm, WI this weekend and wanted a place reasonably close for my family to stay. Photos of this house cannot do it justice—it is breathtaking in person!!! It was a busy weekend and not a lot of time was spent in the house, but in the moments of downtime we were able to see several bald eagles fly over, deer walking through the yard, and even a wild turkey! Would definitely stay here again!

    Abby2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you to Wade for sharing his lovely and unique home with us! The views were amazing! We would definitely return. We appreciate everything Wade! Bonnie and Family-Minneapolis

    Olivia2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing home with an amazing view! Super clean and large spaces! Wade was kind and quickly responds to messages. Definitely recommend!

    Jen2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great house! There is plenty of space both inside and out and amazing views of the river! We even saw wildlife: eagles and deer. Winter hiking, sledding, and other outside opportunities are nearby. Wade was great and very responsive and welcoming. Plan to bring anything beyond bare-necessities kitchen gear if you plan to cook. The house is kid-friendly and is cozy and fun for a family weekend of games/puzzles/Netflix.

  • My fiancé and I took a weekend get away to plan our ceremony and the space and the location was perfect. This unique and beautiful space has inspiring artwork every where! The bed was so comfortable. Large windows provide natural light. Wifi worked great too. We went to a winery close by, Villa Bellezza, which was fantastic. We also had tasty Chai and pie cookies at the Stockholm Pie and General Store. I would definitely return here for another get away or to get out of town to get some work done. Kendra was easy to communicate with and a great host!

    Renee2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Kendra’s place was super cool and unique. Wonderful to watch the sunset through the wall of westward facing windows. Not too far from a couple neat small river towns with good food and drink options. Definitely recommend staying here!

    Drew2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Kendra’s! The former schoolhouse is full of character and history. Stockholm and Pepin are just a short drive away. Her art adds to the beautiful surroundings that make up this hidden find. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!!!

    Julie2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • It is a wonderful quiet stay. We loved solitude.

    Roxane2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Kendra was super helpful and responded quick to every question I had! She even gave me some tips on where to eat and things to do! Great host!

    Griffen2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved staying here. We felt inspired by the open space and art all around, and loved watching sunset through the entire wall of windows. Kendra was communicative and has obviously put a lot of creative thought into the space and creating a lovely experience for guests. Highly recommend. The kitchen was small but still had all of the essentials, including a small oven which allowed us to roast the meal we had planned to make. We hope to come back in the summer sometime to enjoy the bonfire in the backyard!

  • Tracy's place was a great last minute find for myself, my husband, and our 4 teenagers. The apartment was very clean and modern. The bar underneath the space has great burgers and the staff was welcoming and friendly. I grew up with trains close by so the sound of them rumbling by was comforting. I would definitely recommend Tracy's place and would love to return and spend more time in the area.

    Danielle2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Tracy's place is in a great location and very clean. Beautiful view as well. We were there with another couple, so it was nice that there was 2 bathrooms. Will keep it in mind for sure for the future!

    Kelly2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Well-furnished, spacious, clean apartment with plenty of kitchen and gathering space. (Just give the bedrooms nearest to the street to your lighter sleepers, since the trains do run very close to the apartment.)

    Anne2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice place. Awesome updates. Food in the bar under the apartment was awesome and reasonable. Plenty of trains going by for added viewing.

The cabin sits on one acre of land in Old Frontenac. Florence township beach and Frontenac State Park are in walking distance. This is "comfortable camping". The basics are there for campers to enjoy such as a fire pit, wood, and grill. The kitchen area has a hot plate, large toaster oven, and a small refrigerator, Hok-si-La Park, just a few miles south, has a great beach and boat launch. The cabin has NO indoor plumbing. It has a composting toilet and water jugs with spigots to clean up with.
The cabin is seasonal and we are not sure how long into the winter season it will be comfortable. There is a radiant heater and also a gas fireplace which keeps in comfortable until the January freeze comes. The cabin will be shut down after December 16th until April 2020. Please look for the open calendar in the spring. It's been great hosting our guests! See you next year. Dick and Kathy
Old Frontenac is on the historical register. It is rich in riverboat history. The village is very quiet with the trains only heard in the distance.
  • Amazing little place! Cozy, warm and, homey. We really enjoyed it and the area. Thank you for the stay!

    Amelia2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • This place is so so freaking cute and set up for success. Everywhere you look there is something useful to make the stay more comfortable and fun. The fire pit is amazing and huge! It’s honestly the cutest place I wish I lived there. The price was great! It was warm and homey and the communication was fabulous. She even told me to stay past check out if the weather was too bad to drive out. LOVE IT. will stay again!!

This 1926 farmhouse sits atop rolling country fields just outside the village of Maiden Rock, and just a few miles to Stockholm, Pepin, & Red Wing, Mn. Little Square Farmhouse was purchased by the hosts parents in 1987. After being raised with 8 siblings in this home, she found her way back and has been putting her interior design skills to work on the Farmhouse since 2008. #littlesquarefarmhouse
Make memories on the breezy front porch. Eat meals at the farm table made from 90 year old studs from one of our walls. Have a relaxing evening in front of the fire, then cozy up in a unique bedroom between fresh organic linens and fluffy pillows, then wake refreshed to a lovely country view.
FOOD: Unleash your inner chef in our gourmet kitchen, or venture out and eat local. Favorites include, The Smiling Pelican Bakeshop, A-Z pizza, Vino in the Valley, The Harbor View, Chef Shack, Lena’s & many local wineries. SHOP & SEE : Lake Pepin, Rush River, Cultural Cloth, Secret Heart, Laura Ingalls Birthplace, Crystal Cave, & many Galleries
  • We had the absolute BEST time! This was the perfect location for our girls weekend! Everyone loved the special little details Leah had to offer -- a hot cocoa bar, s'mores basket and fire wood, and super homie touches throughout! We had 12 women for 2 nights -- 10 upstairs, 1 on the coach, and 1 on the full size air mattress. We had a personal chef, yoga instructor, used the TV for online training, a photoshoot -- so many cute spots inside and out! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us!

    Brittany2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful girls weekend at your beautiful home. Thank you for all of the special touches. We unanimously give you and your home an A+ on all aspects and would highly recommend others to stay with you.

  • Leah’s farm house was more then we could have asked for. The setting and surrounding area are amazing to include 3 sweet farm kitties on the property. The kitchen is beautiful! The art is fun tasteful. The beds and linens were comfy and fresh. The house is sparkly clean! Leah is a wonderful host and provides many thoughtful extras. We loved our stay!!

    Jean2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Really lovely weekend at Leah's farmhouse for my and my friends shared birthday week. It was a perfect place to relax and meet up. The beds and seating areas were all very welcoming and comfortable. The kitchen oven and amenities were a real plus for people that like to share meals together and the farm cats Ferdinand, Coon and Leon were an added bonus.

    Miki2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Lives up to the listing. We immensely enjoyed the farmhouse, which was well appointed and tastefully designed. Will definitey stay here again if we travel to the area!

Picturesque 1940s farm that has been completely restored. One of the best spots in Pierce County with close proximity to Stockholm, Maiden Rock and Pepin. Relax and take in the views or take a beautiful drive through the countryside to one of the many attractions the area has to offer such as Crystal Cave, Vino in the Valley, A to Z Pizza, one of the many wineries, trout fishing in Rush River and shopping in Stockholm and Maiden Rock. Two stalls are available for your horses too!

  • Fantastic HGTV-chic farmhouse with all the modern amenities. GREAT LOCATION: Location is ideal for exploring the area -- and there's tons of space in the house/on the property to enjoy without ever leaving. KID-FRIENDLY: Tons of toys, games, etc. at the house, plus several kid beds and other kid-friendly touches. Lots of space, so you can put the kids to bed and hang out downstairs. COZY & COMFORTABLE HOUSE: It's a legit old farmhouse — but it has completely new heating, bathrooms, kitchen, etc. so you are living comfortably. AMAZING KITCHEN/DINING ROOM: Stylishly designed modern kitchen has all the stuff you need to cook an elaborate family feast, and then open concept means you can socialize as you cook.

    Jay2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful home! Great for a girls weekend!! Super cozy beds!

    Nicole2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful fall family weekend at this beautiful farm, surrounded by rolling hills of corn fields. The kitchen was a perfect place to make food for the gathering. There was a main floor bedroom and bath for our family member that could not climb the stairs to the 2nd level. The house was thoughtfully restored and feels like a retreat. We took day trips to Maiden Rock, Ellsworth and Stockholm which worked well. Favorite stops included Culture cloth and the Ellsworth creamery (incredible ice cream in addition to cheese). Would highly recommend this place for a weekend away, convenient and pretty drive from Twin Cities metro area.

  • If you ever find yourself needing to stay in Western Wisconsin, stay here! Maggie's farm house was beautifully renovated and perfect for a large group. She has the house stocked with everything you could need to just stay in for the weekend!

    Emma2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Even cuter than the photos and perfectly peaceful and relaxing. Enjoyed a lovely weekend with friends unplugging from the hustle and bustle of the east coast grind and couldn't have found a better place for just that. Very comfortable for a group of 6 and could easily fit a few more! We found design inspiration in the perfectly renovated bathrooms and kitchen - the ideal mix of farmhouse charm and modern amenities. Thank you, Maggie, for a wonderful weekend retreat!

  • We were looking for a place to recover from a particularly hectic summer, and this house was perfect! The bed was comfy and warm, and the kitchen had everything we needed. The hosts share a wonderful variety of games, books and music. The outdoor sauna was excellent--an educating fire-building experience topped off with great steam and a brisk outdoor shower. We've come home knowing we must find a way to add a sauna to our house. We had deer and turkeys in the yard each day, and we added four new varieties of birds to our birding journal and saw hundreds of cardinals, jays, sparrows and chickadees at the feeders on the property. We didn't see another person for three days. The weather wasn't especially cooperative for hiking, but we walked the grounds and spent many hours on the deck watching barges go up the river and studying the brighter stars that were spectacular through light cloud cover. This was the ideal place to unplug and relax. We've stayed in several excellent Airbnb homes, and they've all offered perks that we have enjoyed. This was the best place we've encountered for a real vacation from everything.

Remarkable historic home in pretty Red Wing. Spacious, private, queen bedroom blocks from the preserved downtown. You are invited to enjoy a private outdoor sitting area. Your comfortable room is located in a secluded section of the home, and common areas are shared. Perhaps you will be lucky enough to have one of my two kitties also meet you at the door. Conveniently located, you might walk downtown or access excellent climbing bluffs. If you prefer a ride, there is Lyft or a cab in town.
This beautiful, historic home is quiet and welcoming. Your peaceful space is right next to the entrance and adjacent to the living room.
For history buffs, Red Wing has 22 individually listed buildings and sites and three historic districts on the National Register of Historic Places. Home construction in this residential area began shortly after this home was built in the eighteen-eighties to the nineteen-twenties. Attracted by employment at the cooper shop (barrel maker), multiple bungalows and foursquares popped up throughout the east end. Today, the area remains nestled between the city's tallest bluffs - Barn Bluff (known as Ȟemníčhaŋ in the Dakota language) and Sorin's Bluff/Memorial Park (dedicated in 1927 for our military and for outdoor recreation).
  • Such an amazing place! Only place in Red Wing I will stay at now!

  • Vicki is a wonderful host. Her house is under renovation but if you like older homes as I do it’s easy to look past that. We highly recommend Vicki as a host. We would stay with her again.

    Daniel2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Vicki’s house! Vicki has two friendly cats who after meeting us, minded their own business. I am allergic to cats and normally have a quite awful time with my allergies but was pleasantly surprised that due to the extreme cleanliness of the house, my reaction was practically nonexistent :) We would love to visit again!

  • Vicky was a phenomenal host. I have stayed here before and am never disappointed. Great check in experience, clean room, and comfortable bed. The kitty’s visiting was such a cute and friendly moment. She welcomes you into her home and makes you comfortable. Even get a pot of coffee in the morning! Highly recommend this stay if you are looking for a superb stay for an an inexpensive price, this is the place to go!

Cozy first-floor apartment in a triplex blocks from downtown, the riverfront, Memorial Park & Barn Bluff Trailhead. Lots of large windows allow for natural light in all rooms. Unit has comfortable queen-size bed in bedroom & futon in living room for additional sleeping (but the bathroom is only accessible thru the bedroom). Unit has kitchen with all appliances, basic cooking supplies & plates, bowls, silverware & glasses. **Listing price includes a 3% City of Red Wing lodging tax.
The house has two addresses because it is a corner lot. It has the address 402 W 7th St and 626 Bush St. The entrance to the AirBNB apt is on Bush St. **Do NOT enter the door on the small porch that faces 7th St. That is someone else's private apartment.** The AirBNB apartment is a private space in a building with other private apartments. You have the whole apartment. The only shared space is the building's front door and entryway, which is shared with the apartment upstairs. Roomy and open unit in a large corner lot triplex. Front porch available, as well as yard. Large 49" Smart TV with sound bar in living room with access to Netflix, Hulu, Prime video and Prime music. IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE: PARKING: You can park on Bush St. in front of the house but you need to park ACROSS THE STREET (not on the side of Bush St. that is closest to the house). You should see No Parking signs and/or yellow curb on the side where parking is not allowed. HOSTS NOT ON SITE: We do not live on site. Both of the other apartments in the building are occupied by other long-term tenants. We do not live there. SHARED BUILDING/NOISE FROM OTHER TENANTS: The AirBNB apartment is the lower unit in a triplex, so there will be noise from the other tenants. It may be more noticeable if you are not used to living in a building with other apartments/tenants. One of the other apartments is around the side/back of the main part of the building. That is a separate apt occupied by tenants and is not part of the AirBNB. SECOND BED: The second bed is a futon located in the living room. BATHROOM: The only bathroom is inside the bedroom. It is only accessible through the bedroom. AIR CONDITIONING: The air conditioning is a window unit in the living room. There is NO central air. However, there are ceiling fans in the living room and bedroom and a stand-up fan in the living room that can help blow the cooler air from the air conditioner in the living room into the bedroom. Also, you are welcome to turn off the air conditioning and open the windows for fresh air instead, as the nights can be cool and fresh in Minnesota.
Red Wing is a peaceful and quiet river town not far from the Twin Cities. Unit is within walking distance of several restaurants/bars, coffee shops, a grocery store, a liquor store, a gas station/convenience store, and the riverfront. Red Wing is only 20 minutes from Welch and close to Treasure Island Casino, as well.

Beautiful, beautiful cabin. Nested in the middle of the Porcupine Valley, this cabin is a place for you to find rest and relaxation. Sitting on the front porch and listening to the birds is probably the best part of this cabin. Attractive flower beds, large yard, spacious interior, pond, and creek. Back porch, front porch, and upper balcony. Great for a family getaway or a low-key long weekend away from the city. Snowmobilers- This cabin is on a snowmobile trail.
1300sq ft. Access to the cabin through the keyless entry. Just enter your unique 4 digit code, and your in.
There are nearby towns to visit, a beach in Pepin, and dirt roads to walk on. Walks around the property are nice too. County Rd D is a very low traffic road.
  • Very cute and charming cabin! A great getaway from the city. Andrew was super quick to respond. If you’re looking for a great cabin getaway this is definitely a good choice.

  • Currier and Ives: We stayed here in the winter with snowfall in the valley, and it truly looked like the Currier and Ives images I remember from when I was a kid! The cabin was the quaint place we hoped it would be, and gave us that wonderful, wooden cabin feeling. What a great getaway to relax and chill for a while! Top notch service from Andrew, and everything went perfectly smooth. We highly recommend this cabin for a relaxing retreat.

  • Love this cottage. The hills were just beginning to show their fall colors And everything feels so peaceful and quiet. We have stayed here twice and the cottage has been perfect and comfy each time. Our favorite spot is looking out the windows from the dining room table. Great place for conversation , table games or just gazing. If you’re looking for peace or quiet and a comfortable picturesque setting- look no further!

This lovely cottage is a wonderfully renovated gem in the rolling hills of Stockholm township. It's minutes from Stockholm village and the beautiful bluffs and views of Lake Pepin.
The two story craftsman bungalow is on a 5 acre farm homestead site surrounded by black walnut and spruce trees. There is a large lawn with a view across the quiet country road of fertile farmland and old forest as the terrain slopes towards the Mississippi River. Behind the cottage is a large garden with flowers and an old farm red shed. The main floor offers two bedrooms with queen-sized beds. There is a kitchen and dining room for entertaining plus a living room with a wood burning stove. There are lovely wood floors throughout. The bathroom has a clawfoot tub for relaxing. There is a lovely sun porch looking out across the yard. The second floor is open and has a queen bed plus two twin beds. The breezes are delightful in this nice cheery space. The lower level offers a bathroom with a shower and full laundry. Exterior amenities include a large deck and patio for enjoying the view of the garden and the countryside. The local attractions include the famous A-Z pizza farm which is next door, the Villa Bellezza winery in Pepin, and the quaint village of Stockholm.

  • Prospect Place is a gem in the sleepy town of Durand, WI. I recently traveled to Durand to meet up with family and I wanted to stay someplace a little different. Prospect Place is a quaint historical church turned into a Airbnb. It was beautifully decorated for the holidays and spotless. The coffee was amazing and the main gathering room was roomy so that we could have family over to visit. Thank you for a memorable stay!

Really decked out nicely with great furnishings and high quality amenities (coffee, soaps, fast internet, smart TV, etc). Great location walking distance to shops and restaurants. Great hosts with helpful local tips and very prompt communication. The kids enjoyed ringing the old church bell too! All round great stay!

  • We came for a relaxing girls weekend and got exactly that - the venue is just as pictured, and is even cooler when you get there as it still very much feels like the interior of a big open church (despite being converted into a home). It’s a great space for hanging out as a group, you can cook and interact from the kitchen through the living room. I think there a couple touches that would bring it up a couple notches - several more amenities in the kitchen to make cooking easier, and a bigger coffee table would be great.

Franklin Cottage is a fully renovated 1920 arts and crafts bungalow located within the historic Red Wing residential district, and only steps away from Red Wing’s Central Park & Historic Downtown. Easy walk to St. James Hotel. Looking for a romantic escape or a place to relax after outdoor adventures? Or perhaps a place big enough for wedding parties, wedding guests, a girls trip, or colleagues traveling in for work. In any case, Franklin Cottage will accommodate your needs.
As soon as you step inside Franklin Cottage, you will see why it won a Historic Preservation Award. The kitchen blends traditional style with newer appliances & granite island, and you’ll love the master suite & master bath w/ tiled shower. The other guest rooms are also comfortably styled and the additional full bath features an antique clawfoot tub. This home welcomes you with high-quality furnishings throughout, highlighted by original details throughout and modern amenities such as newer kitchen appliances, central heat & air, flat-screen LED televisions, premium cable, high-speed WiFi and more. If you're visiting in the summer and fall, we have a well-equipped back porch and outdoor space to grill, relax, enjoy the evening, and play some outdoor games. In the colder winter months, we have a cozy fireplace, luxurious warm bedding and plenty of indoor entertainment to relax and enjoy after an adventurous day.
Residential Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. It is an excellent representation of an evolving residential district, beginning in the late 1850s and culminating in the early 1930s with a slight majority of buildings dating from the city's period of greatest construction; the late 1880s to pre-World War I. Some of the earliest remaining buildings have been architecturally updated during subsequent fashionable periods and lend an acceptable, if curious, architectural and educational value to the character of the district.
  • This is an awesome place! The craftsmanship is beautiful and the place is warm and inviting. We went for a 3 day weekend and enjoyed it immensely. Perfect if you are cooking at home or going out. We hope to return soon!

Majestic 3100 sq. ft. log home at the foot of a bluff. House is surrounded by woods offering complete privacy. Close to the Mississippi River, Lake Pepin, the Red Wing Airport, the quaint city of Red Wing, Minnesota, and Treasure Island Casino. Property is located only 45 minutes from the Mall of America and the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area. It's a modern log cabin with a huge wrap-around deck for outdoor entertaining. It also has 2 Jacuzzi tubs and a theater.
Our home is made of full logs and stone. We have a lot of space. There are several comfortable couches that can sleep more people. The yard is very private, serene, and beautiful.
It's like living at a resort here! We designed the house, cleared the area with 2 chainsaws, and did a lot of finishing work. Our neighbors are spaced apart so it is private but they are lovely, kind, helpful people.

  • We have stayed at quite a few Airbnbs around the country and this home ranks with the best of them. New clean furniture. A binder with easy to read instructions on everything in the home. It even has a turn table with an excellent selection of music albums to play on it! The interior looks like it could be in a home magazine. We'd definitely stay again

  • Jaclynn’s place made for a wonderful relaxing weekend getaway and she did a great job of having the place clean and accommodating. This is the perfect little cabin. The setting was perfect and we couldn’t believe the underrated beauty of this area. We highly recommend a bike ride from Kirk Rd. north to Eau Galle on the Rustic road and back down to Hwy 25. It’s about a 10.5 ride but definitely worth it. Also the Stone Barn pizza was an all around great experience. The atmosphere, pizza and ice cream were all spot on. Afterward treat yourself to a beautiful drive back to Durand on the backroads. (Lindstrom Valley Rd ->County Rd AA -> FF -> PP). 10 out of 10 recommend

  • Jacylnn's place was perfect, amazing views and a great place to stay!

  • Wow! Our family of 4 enjoyed The Cottage and location so much. What a treat! Every aspect of our stay and the accommodations were wonderful!

  • Had a great time & enjoyed staying at the cottage!

    Matthew2019-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • Overall a very pleasant experience. Charlene was a good host. The wifi was very spotty but not needed often as experience was to not need technology. Wished to use it for music but had trouble throughout the trip.

    Tony2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Photos just do this place justice. The cottage so quaint, the birds chirping the the morning were wonderful, and the location was cozy. I loved the layout of the rooms vs bathrooms and there were plenty of spaces to lunge around and chat for our girls weekend.

    Jacklyn2019-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was a lovely space. We enjoyed the open layout, multiple bathrooms, comfortable bedrooms and the fireplace. The land is gorgeous with many trails to explore and a labyrinth. We took advantage of the extra services by taking a soak in the Japanese soaking tub. The only criticism I have of our time, which is completely out of the hosts control, was the Asian beetle hatching. There were swarms that limited our time in the sun outside. Heads up for this time of the season. I would highly recommend the Cottage and will definitely be coming back.

Original 1913 charm meets eclectic and earthy décor. Located in a charming, quiet neighborhood amongst the bluffs. Our beautiful home is walking distance to downtown Red Wing, Memorial Park hiking trails, the Mississippi River walking/biking path which leads to the Cannon Valley trail. A short drive will bring you to multiple golf courses and excellent vista views.
A variety of comfortable spaces are here to enjoy. The newly remodeled kitchen offers all the amenities for cooking and baking amongst original, historic touches. Giant maple trees provide a beautiful canopy in the large, fenced backyard, perfect for enjoying downtime or an outdoor meal. The spacious screened Front Porch is a great place for morning coffee or evening relaxation. Visiting in Winter?? Hunker down in the cozy Den after a day of skiing or snowshoeing in the bluffs. PLEASE NOTE: there are wooden staircases (one is a steep and narrow Butler stair), and large, low window sills on the second level. Though beautiful, this may not be safe for small children or others needing additional help.
Just down the street, situated among the bluffs you will find: junior league baseball games (beautiful setting on summer evenings), outdoor ice skating (free - includes skate rental) and a historic cemetery with a wonderful scenic overlook.
  • This is a lovely space. Very large and can accommodate a group of people. The kitchen is well stocked with supplies which makes cooking a meal super easy. Rachael was extremely accommodating and communicative. Super close to the main area of Red Wing which was a bonus! We would definitely return.

    Zoe2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • The house was so clean and very quaint. Nice living room and dining room area for us to hang out in. Much better than a hotel. Nice quiet street. Close to downtown and great walking trails. Rachael is great with communication and helpful with whatever you need. Would definitely stay here again.

  • Excellent, cozy house with a complete kitchen, wonderfully cozy and accommodating common spaces, and comfortable, clean bedrooms. Loved every minute. Rachael was accommodating, flexible and communicative. This rates at the top of the dozens of AirB&Bs we’ve stayed in for quality/price rapport! Thanks!!

    David2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Rachael's place was spacious, clean and stylish! We enjoyed lounging on the comfy couches and the kitchen had everything we needed to make dinner and breakfast, even coffee and a French press!

  • Zoe and Rick offer the second floor of their home to their visitors. It was a quiet and restful place to stay while attending a high school reunion. It is comfortable and private. They have thoughtful vintage pieces throughout their space that made me smile or reminded me of another era. Their neighborhood is centrally located with easy access to area points of interest in the Red Wing area. They were very hospitable with and would recommend this to anyone visiting Red Wing.

    Janice2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing hospitality, couldn't be happier!

    Alicia2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I visited my hometown with our teen. This spot was perfect. It's a nice, quiet neighborhood. The beds were comfortable. The dog is friendly. Rick and Zoe are so nice. We had some great chats (and tasty watermelon). We would definitely stay here again or recommend it to friends.

    Terri2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic location very close to downtown Red Wing, while still in a nice residential area. Zoe and Richard are excellent hosts and have tons of suggestions for things to do in Red Wing and nearby. Their truly impressive book collection is great low-key entertainment as well. They make delicious coffee and were ready to help out with anything we needed, including bug spray for a last-minute evening hike! It was like staying with good friends.

    Amy2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Zoe has done an excellent job of setting this place up to be simple, economical, and a really good place to crash after an activity-filled day in Red Wing. The place has the towels, soaps, etc to allow you to travel light. We were there on a 100+ heat index day and the charming old house kept us comfortable anyway. Zoe has the little touches down like the porch light left on for us (we had a Treasure Is concert till late) and coffee with fresh cherries in the morning. You will never see more shelves full of books than this place and though you might not have time to read, you will feel compelled to peruse the huge variety of titles and subjects. Overall, with a lower cost than any hotel, and more personality, this was an excellent value for us. Highly recommend for anyone wanting to keep it simple and not pay for a bunch of amenities you arent going to use. Safe with a good bed and shower? Checkmark. Great job Zoe.

    John2019-07-21T00:00:00Z

  • This home is amazing. We were celebrating our wedding at a nearby venue and used the Church Home to host our bridal party. The home is incredibly spacious and inviting to all who enter. Everyone felt comfortable, as they had three beautiful levels to spend time in. I got ready with my girls at the house and was able to host hair/make up without any hiccups. We loved the open kitchen and space to house our beverages and food we brought in. 100% would recommend to anyone celebrating the same occasion as us or wanting a large, open layout for a family getaway, this is the place for you. Thank you for a great time!

  • This place was absolute perfection for our quick weekend get away! The space is HUGE, clean, and fully stocked with all dishes, cups, etc. The location is great for walking around town and enjoying the local restaurants and shops. Only thing to be aware of is that it is next to the train tracks so you'll hear them roar by throughout the evening. Next time I'll book this again, but know to bring ear plugs :)

Come enjoy a spacious two room suite in a rustic early 1900s farm house, surrounded by 80 acres of natural beauty. Hike in native prairie and woodlands, in the company of unique birds and wildlife; kayak local waters, explore nearby river towns. A great location for a writing or other artistic retreat, meditation, yoga and being immersed in nature. Lot's of gravel and some paved roads for biking adventures.
Guest Accommodations Our home is an early 1900’s historic home and we have kept the flavor of that era in our restoration efforts. The house has original wood floors and woodwork, mostly antique furnishings and a claw foot tub in the bathroom. The guest suite includes two rooms upstairs, a bedroom and living room space. The bedroom (the ‘Barn Room’) has a dresser and small table, and full size bed. The living space (the ‘Game Room’) has a desk, comfortable reading chair, fold out futon couch and games. We don’t have a TV in the house – as part of creating an unplugged atmosphere, but can set you up to watch DVDs on a small flat screen if you like. Bathroom facilities include a full bathroom on the first floor (tub only - no shower), and a composting outhouse with a contemplative view. In the bathroom you can kick back in the tub and soak with a view of the prairie. Note that there is full flight of stairs from the second floor bedrooms to the bathroom. Our shower is outside, with a wide open view of the prairie! We have shampoo, conditioner, a hair drier and towels for your use. A country BREAKFAST option is available on SATURDAY morning and includes: buckwheat pancakes (gluten free option available), scrambled eggs with veggies, locally made pork sausage, orange juice and coffee or tea. $12 per person, let me know if you are interested in this option when you book (2 person minimum). LGBTQ owned and friendly home! We have avoided logging our forest so that there will again be big (old growth) trees on this landscape. We are also restoring a remnant savanna, and have planted farm fields to prairie plants. Its working - we have lots of wildlife! You can see bears, deer, fox, fisher, raccoon, eagles, owls, fireflies, diverse insect species, and many more critters. We invite you to come rejuvenate in the fresh air, bird song and beauty.
Activities in the Area - this area offers a unique blend of cultural and natural adventure possibilities! OUTDOOR NATURE ACTIVITIES: Guided Tours Tours of local wildflowers and/or birds can be arranged in advance, including Kayaking trip for 2 with gear and transport. The Chippewa River The Chippewa River is a large and mostly wild river just 10 minutes from the homestead. A great way to spend a hot afternoon is canoeing or kayaking down the Chippewa. You can borrow our canoes or rent them from a local outfitter (which includes a pick up at your pull out point). Portions of the river travel through the Tiffany Wildlife Area (see below). Tiffany Wildlife Area The Tiffany Wildlife Area is one of the largest preserves (13,000 acres) in Wisconsin can be accessed from several locations with only 10-15 minute drive. It is an excellent area for hiking, birding, wildlife viewing, cross country skiing, and hunting. The Chippewa Savanna chapter of The Prairie Enthusiasts hosts birding and wildlife viewing tours via a small train that runs through a section of the area. CULTURE We have many artists and musicians in our community and as a result there are opportunities to see hear live music and see local art. The following is a listing of some of the venues: Liberty Tree Farm Liberty Tree Farm is a rustic, relaxed event venue just outside the village of Stockholm, WI, on the bluffs of the Mississippi River. The main stage is built into the end of an old barn with a grassy meadow serving as the seating area. Benches and picnic tables are situated in the shade of the trees and warmth of the sun. The inside of the barn also has a stage and seating for rainy days and more intimate performances. Trails, dotted with sitting areas, meander through a wooded landscape, connecting open spaces suitable for all manner of celebrations. Concerts, large and small, give folks a chance to visit spring, summer and fall. • Cynthia was a gracious accommodating host, great breakfast conversation maker and all around lovely person. It was a little chilly for the outdoor shower, but a hot tub soak in the claw foot tub was just what the Dr ordered. There always seemed to be something to snack on in the kitchen which was a welcome unexpected bonus. Her love for the outdoors and a healthy natural environment is reflected in the Savannah restoration work she has done on her property. Be sure to also take a stroll and enjoy the views and peaceful surroundings.

  • Our stay Cynthia's place was fantastic! The Peaceful Retreat was quite beyond our expectations for quiet, calm and peaceful stay. The night-time fireflies (amazing) and birds and critters and hikes in the prairie and in the oak savanna - were all so lovely and rejuvenating. Cynthia's place is a perfect spot to get away, but it is also quite central the area; we were close to Maiden Rock/Stockholm/Pepin and the river road. During our stay we also drove to Durand for kayaking and also went up to Eau Claire for biking on rails to trails.

  • Cynthia’s home was so wonderful we felt immediately comfortable and cared for. She went the extra mile on everything to try and accommodate us. She is a lovely person And a wonderful host and we can’t say enough good things about our experience there! We would highly recommend it to anyone!

  • Way above average help with local amenities and sights. Very personable host and great person

  • We really enjoyed our stay at Cynthia’s home. Communication was great, the room was comfortable and private, and the host was engaging and entertaining! The scenery at the home was beautiful. We even witnessed a young deer walk through the front lawn while drinking coffee in the kitchen. Our only disappointment was the weather did not allow us to use the outdoor shower (it was a bit too cool). The location is close to many of Wisconsin’s quaint towns and a short drive from the Twin Cities. We highly recommend that you stay here.

  • Enjoy a charming, quiet, hospitable stay. There is a comfy hammock available and wonderful land to walk, too. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

  • Hidden away in a gorgeous valley between hilly Wisconsin countryside, Cynthia's farmhouse defies expectations. Hosts are wonderful and forthcoming with hospitality. While we weren't able to take advantage of all that the 80 acres have to offer, we so appreciated our stay and the wonderful views. We absolutely adored the outdoor shower overlooking the prairie, a definite must!

Just a short, scenic 45 mile drive SE of the Twin Cities in the bluffs along the Mississippi River. This vacation rental home will offer great views of the back channel of the river, with 14 acres and lots of privacy. Easy access to historic Red Wing. Basement has recreation room with pool, ping pong, air hockey, large screen TV and wet bar. Outdoors: gas grill, swimming pool, volleyball, basketball, tetherball, and fire pit. Call Ken at 952-484-0112 for details.
The property offers a lot of privacy. There is also a circular driveway with easy parking.
There is lots to explore in the town of Red Wing. I will provide you a list of good restaurants and fun sights to see. It is also fun to explore the Great River Road along the MN and WI sides of the bluff country.
  • Really great place for sleeping a lot of people, or making sure every couple in a smaller group has their own space. This cabin isn't brand new and is well-loved, but it was comfortable, the pictures were accurate, and several people in our group commented on how great the common spaces were for spending time together. The deck and pool were fantastic for hanging out during good weather. Plenty of outside space for throwing discs and the cabin is conveniently close to lots of things to do in Red Wing. Lots of good communication with the host before arrival, though they're fairly particular in how they do things. Be sure to save a little time to run through the checkout list as it's a big place with a fairly extensive list.

  • For our group of 13 people this was a great place to stay. There were many activities to enjoy. The pool and sand volleyball court were our favorite. The home is very clean. We would definitely go back.

  • Great views, and awesome amenities. We enjoyed relaxing and spending almost all of our time outside enjoying the weather! Plenty of space for sleeping. Away enough, but not too far in the middle of nowhere. Awesome place for a little time away.

  • Comfortable accommodations for a group of 9 adults attending the Big Turn Music Festival in Red Wing MN. Many sleeping options: beds, futons, mattresses. An open living space with lots of windows toward the river and a great view. The lower level was chilly (it was February) but the upper two levels were sunny and warm with a great fireplace in the evening. Ken was very responsive to questions.

A sunny room with a view is reserved for a woman on a solo adventure. Our quiet and secluded location is great for inspiring new creations and relaxing in a peaceful setting. Walk in native prairie and forests with the company of song birds and wildlife; canoe local waters, explore local art and music in nearby river towns.
Guest Accommodations Our home is an early 1900’s historic home and we have kept the flavor of that era in our restoration efforts. The house has original wood floors and woodwork, mostly antique furnishings and a claw foot tub in the bathroom. The room faces south and gets lots of light. It has a view of the yard and forested valley beyond. There is a full size bed, bookshelf, small desk and large closet. Bathroom facilities include a full bathroom on the first floor (tub only - no shower), and a composting outhouse with a contemplative view. In the first floor bathroom you can kick back in the tub and soak with a view of the prairie. Our shower is outside, with a wide open view of the prairie! We have shampoo, conditioner, a hair drier and towels for your use. Sorry no pets in this room to keep it accessible to people with allergies. LGBT and people of color friendly home! You are welcome to use the kitchen for cooking and there is a small fridge designated for guest use as well. The kitchen is stocked with the basic pots, pans and implements. Outside there is a grill and wood for grilling – we find the flavor from a wood fired barbecue to be outstanding. The front porch is a classic for relaxing and playing music, and if you are a musician, there is a guitar and jembe drum available for your use. We have a small fire pit in the yard and wood available if you want to enjoy an evening fire. We are usually around working in the garden or tending trees in our small, start-up tree nursery, and are happy to give you directions or ideas for activities. When I am away from the farm I will provide you with a cell number to call in case you need anything.
Please note that we live in the house and will likely be in the home during your stay. Also, there are steep stairs between the first floor bathroom (the only bathroom in the house, and the second floor bedroom. OUTDOOR NATURE ACTIVITIES: Guided Tours Naturalist tours of the Chippewa River, local wildflowers and/or birds can be arranged in advance. (URL HIDDEN) CULTURE We have many artists and musicians in our community and as a result there are opportunities to see hear live music and see local art. • Cynthia is a wonderful host – she is great to chat with and has a lovely home.

  • Everything one could possibly want for a writing (or artist) retreat. Cynthia attends to her home, her land and her visitors in a most welcoming way. The rooms are upstairs, so not for the those who have issues climbing stairs or need to get to the bathroom quickly. The room was a sweet and as comfortable as described. The yard and prairie worth the stay itself. I wrote from the writing desk in my room and on her lovely front porch. Cynthia is a generous Hostess.

  • If you're looking for a peaceful country experience, Cynthia's place is perfect! Cynthia is a wonderful host and the house is beautiful and charming. I stayed here for a solo weekend getaway and it was just what I needed to detach from work and quiet the chatter in my head. It's also near many other great towns if you'd like to throw in some activities during your retreat. I highly recommend Cynthia's place!

  • Cynthia's Artist's and Writer's Retreat is much more than that! She has restored an early 1900s farmhouse into a charming, welcoming, cozy environment. I immediately felt at home there. The furnishings create a country feel with quilts on the beds, comfy chairs for lounging and reading and seating on the front porch. I enjoyed the outdoor shower while looking out over the prairie to the trees. About 100 acres of the land is forest, restored prairie or rare, remnant oak savanna as part of the Conservation Reserve Program. This is a beautiful place to reconnect with nature in peace and quiet.

  • A claw foot tub filled with hot water is not a thing I could ever resist! My unique bathing experience at Cynthia's farmhouse included a dish of fragrant, handmade soap and a view of the pine trees. And a very comfortable bed was waiting for me in my room. What a lovely time I had in this quiet refuge...and Cynthia was so very kind. She provided me with a toothbrush - the essential item I forgot to pack - and also offered to bring me provisions from the co-op in Menomonie. That worked out very well, the salad greens were delicious. Thank you, also, for the olive oil and Balsamic vinegar!

  • Cynthia is an amazing host! Her place is absolutely beautiful. Warm, inviting, clean, and peaceful. It was a perfect place for me to do some quiet writing. I highly recommend! I will be back!

  • Wow! What about my days around Savanna Moon? Well, it was a lot of healing days. I do not believe in coincidence. I have a friend who says: coincidences are pseudonyms of the works of God! So, accessing the airbnb and finding exactly that sacred space to host me was the best route from this God or Goddess to my days. Cynthya was perfect and I am Grateful for everything. Every email, Every word, Every phone call, Every worry...

    Luciana2018-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • Cynthia has created an amazing retreat space for the generative spirit to emerge and play. I came to her place for quiet time to think, meditate and write. I had that and so much more. Cynthia exudes kindness and a welcoming hospitality. If you are looking for a place where you can "Be here now," Savanna Moon is a perfect choice. The quiet among nature's symphony allows for many moments of presence. It is also located close to Pepin and the lake and rivers where you can get away for kayaking, sailing and other outdoor activities. Savanna Moon is a magical place with positive energy and, at least in late June / early July, firefly shows. As I left, I didn't look back as I knew that I would return someday - hopefully soon - to continue writing...and playing the drums with the birds as my back-up singers.
