Places to stay in Skinningrove

Places to stay in Skinningrove
The space is a reclaimed game larder dating from the late 1800's which has been lovingly restored and repurposed into a cosy and comfortable chalet. There are two beds, one upstairs in the loft and the other a sofa bed which folds out downstairs. There is a kitchen block complete with cups, plates, glasses etc. as well as a wood burning stove, mini fridge and television. The toilets and showers are a short walk away and are shared with the adjoining campsite.
The Game Larder was bought for the local shooting estate around the turn of the 20th century by Sir Francis Ley. Made of cedar wood and manufactured by the firm Boulton and Paul, the building spent most of the last century forgotten and unused in the woods until it was relocated a mile up the road and turned into something altogether different! We set the Game Larder facing down the Esk Valley and directly across from Danby beacon. The views are fantastic and the sunsets can be truly spectacular. The decking outside provides the perfect viewing platform to enjoy the scenery. We provide a small fridge, electric cooking hob, kettle, utensils, and a toaster, there is also a large fridge and freezer in the shower building. The bed is upstairs in the loft area but there is also the option for a sofa bed downstairs instead. The extra charge is for bedding and towels but you are more than welcome to bring your own sleeping bag, pillows and duvet instead. There is a TV/DVD player, as well as books, games and dvds. Lawnsgate Farm is a traditional sheep and cattle hill farm and there is also a small campsite opposite. We have Scottish blackface sheep and Galloway and shorthorn cows. We also have three bulls which are kept up in the shed during winter. The toilets and showers are in a converted building 20 metres away and are shared with the campsite. There are also washing up facilities, washer/dryer, and a freezer.
We are very lucky to live in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and be only a 20 minute walk away from the pretty village of Lealholm. The village boasts many amenities including a good pub, great shop, post office, garden centre and tea rooms. Towards Danby is the National Parks Moors Centre which is a must for anyone wanting to get acquainted with the area. There is also a bike hire place and cafe in the valley of Fryup which the Game Larder looks over. The area is amazing for walking and I am happy to help you out with any questions or suggestions for nearby walks. Further afield is Whitby which is about a 20 minute drive away. There are many traditional moorland villages to explore all within a 30 minute drive including Rosedale, Goathland, Farndale, and Grosmont. The beautiful fishing villages of Staithes and Robin Hoods Bay are also well worth a visit.
  • If you’re looking for the perfect quirky escape to the countryside then this is exactly the place you need to be! Absolutely everything you need all in one very clever little space. Loads of lovely personal touches, board games, fresh eggs etc. Waking up to those views is something you could never get bored of! Thanks again Aidan, we will certainly be staying here again!!

  • The Game Larder was exactly what we were looking for, a wonderful little escape in the heart of the Moors. I’d strongly recommend.

  • Amazing place, easy to travel too. Aidan is a fantastic host, really helpful with quick response. The area is really pretty. We went during lambing season. It was a cuteness overload. The cabin itself is real cozy, comfortable and warm with real nice touches throughout. Aidan has a couple amazing cats, really friendly and the back cat with white socks loved to spend time with us, warming up in front the log fire. There’s a small community pub with an open fire and good food. We really really enjoyed our time here and it was tough to leave in the end. If you want a weekend away to get way from it all, this is the place to go! I couldn’t recommend it more.

  • The Game Larder is a gorgeous, tiny home made very cosy by its log fire. We had a gorgeous 1 night stay here to unwind from work. It is a perfect break for couples and we couldn’t recommend it more! Thank you Aidan for a lovely stay, and for being a super relaxed host. We will be back!

    Beverley2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • The cosy game larder is a great little get away for anyone who wants away from busy life to take in the views and peacefulness. It’s so cosy containing a lovely log burner. It has all you need there for your stay. Aidan and Ella are lovely and leave you to enjoy your stay but are around if you need anything.

    Kirsty2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic location, Aidan is welcoming and took us to meet the animals even though he was so busy calving. Log Burner was hot once going and fab to have with a snow storm! Visited Board Inn in Village - book as it’s busy and food is fantastic especially Sunday Lunch.

    Linzi2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I had a lovely 2 night stay at Aidan’s farm. The little lodge was stocked with everything you could need, it was super cosy and the log fire warmed it up nicely. We were there during Storm Dennis and felt secure and warm, it was great being on the moors during the storm with the winds hammering by. Aidan was kind enough to show us the Lamas, sheep and introduced the cats. Being animals lovers we were more than happy for one of them to join us for cuddles in the lodge. There are some great little pubs near by, we ate at a pub in Castleton which was amazing. We would definitely stay here again, Aidan was a super friendly host and provided us with some fresh eggs from his hens, bonus!

This unique 18th century fisherman's cottage in unspoilt Staithes is a stone's throw from the pretty harbour, tucked away up one of the many narrow ginnels. The wood burning stove ensures a cosy stay - perfect after a bracing cliff top walk!
Originally a fisherman's house built in the 1750's, Hillside is chock full of original features and character; rafters, beams and of course wonky walls. The wooden staircases wind through the building and up to the huge attic room - a great place to watch the telly, play games (old and new!) and generally relax. The well-equipped kitchen was hand-built by a local craftsman and it's a great space to not just cook; the wood stove is in here so it's a really toasty place to have breakfast in the winter (and I actually prefer to work in here - there are infinite distractions, chatting over the stable door being one of them ..)
Staithes is one of the prettiest and most interesting fishing villages on the Yorkshire coast. It's full of hidden corners, narrow cobbled walkways and whitewashed cottages clinging to the steep hillside. Generations of families have enjoyed bucket & spade holidays on the beach, but you won't find any commercialism at all; it's a charming, friendly time-warp community. There are three good pubs and half a dozen cafes, all serving home made cakes - you'll never go hungry!
  • A lovely cosy cottage in a fab location.

  • Absolutely fab place to stay, central to Staithes, a cosy, comfortable oasis of coastal bliss

    Andrea2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful cottage in a beautiful village - fantastic log burner to keep the place toasty warm on those chilly December nights - made the place soooo cosy! Staithes is a wonderful place to visit - great to visit in winter as it was so quiet and away from it all - perfect - and perfect place to walk the Cleveland Way....

    Patrick2019-12-13T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully presented arty cottage with tons of character and charm. The location is brilliant and everything was just as described. We'd definitely book again. Amanda was a fab host.

  • What a beautiful little cosy cottage this is . Packed with character and charm and beautifully furnished. Lovely and warm, clean , well equipped and a quick walk to the pub and the beach . The beds are lovely and comfortable which is a must . The underfloor heating in the bathroom was great when getting out of the roll top bath . Kitchen is well equipped and a lovely place to sit and watch the world go by next to the stove. I would highly recommend this house and look forward to returning. • Well kept, clean cottage in a great village location near the sea. Good additional extras for our teenage kids including Netflix, games consoles and fast WiFi! Easy walking distance to a good food pub and opposite a convenience store. Scott was a great host with excellent communication.

  • Cosy comfortable home from home with gorgeous decor. Everything you could possibly need with lots of thoughtful extras. Excellent host always ready to answer any questions

    Ingrid2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great place with nice touches like candles games and sky tv. Lovely and clean. Great shower and I am always disappointed by showers! Real fire. Loads of board games and big dining table to play them at. We walked into saltburn on sea with ease but hilly on the way back if you have mobility problems but the bus service seemed fairly frequent even on a weekend. Shop across the road. Fast communication with host too.

  • This place is better than the description in my opinion. The facilities, accommodation, cleanliness are all very good indeed. Scott's comms were great too. All in all, there's nothing negative to report. Have not left a review like that before, anywhere. Thanks Scott! Very highly recommended.

Wavecrest is an idyllic place to stay and has been created with comfort, fun and relaxation in mind. There are great sea views and plenty to satisfy all ages within our home/garden and close by....with the added bonus of the beach being a stone's throw away!
  • We are a family group of different ages. We rented Susan's place to celebrate a 70th birthday. The house was sparkling clean and there was plenty of room for all of us. The location is fantastic. We had a lovely walk on Runswick Bay despite the bad weather! We would definitely return.

    Sarah2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • A very big space, would be great for parties. Each bedroom with an en suite which is a bonus. Lovely area.

  • Great place for a special occasion. So much space both inside and out in a wonderful location!

    Mark2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful spacious house with a lovely garden. We stayed here with 7 adults and 3 children and there was still enough space without feeling on top of each other. The children enjoyed the variety of toys provided and the playground and trampoline at the bottom of the garden. The house is close to the beach but the way there is very steep, however, it can be accessed by car and there is a car park. Communication with the host was very helpful and quick. I would highly recommend the house.

    Stephanie2019-09-05T00:00:00Z

In the beautiful North York Moors National Park, just a mile and a half from Grosmont, terminus for the heritage railway and 5 miles from Whitby, Partridge Nest Cottage was converted from a traditional sandstone farm building in 2000. We have recently renovated it, opening up the ground floor, adding a log burner, new kitchen and a stripped wooden floor. We have also added a large walled private south facing patio with an uninterrupted view up the valley side to the moor top.
Experience England’s history and nature ‘in a nutshell’ in the North York Moors National Park – where peace and beauty rub shoulders with a rich heritage and a warm welcome. The National Park is one of Britain’s treasured places, established in 1952 to protect 554 square miles of magical moorland, ancient woodland, secluded dales, historic sites and a stunning Jurassic Age coastline. From rolling panoramas and big skies to enchanting forests and idyllic dales, there’s a sense of peace and tranquillity here that’s hard to beat – and all just 20 miles or so north of York.
  • Partridge Nest Farm was sparkling clean with lovely decor - everything felt so clean and high quality. We enjoyed looking at the photographs of old Whitby around the cottage. The kitchen was well-equipped and the downstairs bathroom was ideal for our two little girls. We were made to feel so welcome by Caroline and some lovely treats left for us and our dog when we arrived. Thank you.

    Gemma2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely cosy cottage. Our host was so thoughtful the little touches really made it for us. A great place to use as a launch pad to the beautiful Yorkshire Moors.

  • A fantastic place, a cosy home in a great location, spotlessly clean, a real home from home.

    John2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • Love place. Warm and cosy. Great base for exploring North Yorkshire . Views are brilliant. Lovely treat bag for our dog Stella.

    Trish2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • A pretty cottage in a glorious setting. Caroline and Gavin have worked hard to produce the best of both worlds: a fabulous rural retreat with mod cons! The kitchen and bathroom are recently upgraded, the beds are super comfortable and the patio is wonderfully peaceful. Everywhere is super clean and the treats ( for both humans abundant dog) were much appreciated. The location, close to the start of the North York Moors Railway, and within easy reach of the coast, was great, with wonderful scenery and lots of great walks. We will be back!

    Sue2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage with beautiful surroundings. Within short drive of Whitby and local shops/eateries. We loved getting away from it all and relaxing here. From chilling on the patio with a book to cozying up by the log burner. Great hosts and accommodation. We'll definitely be back.

Very small tiny little 1 Bedroom cottage in the heart of Yorkshire moors, with many original features . Comfortably sleeps two. Perfect for a little getaway with no phone internet or television. Pub over the road, lots of walks and activities in the Moors National Park. Seventeen miles to Whitby and the coast. Please note the cottage is very small the living room is 2.75mX 3.4m with a kitchen 2mX1.14m. Bedroom is 2.8mX 2.65m. Please note ceiling height to beams in bedroom is 1.88m.
The cottage is 260 years old and still has many of the original features including; stone floors, beamed ceilings, wooden spiral staircase and bare sandstone walls. This is not a holiday cottage it is my home when I am in the UK is very quirky so it lacks some of the standard holiday cottage features, their is no microwave, shower, internet or television. The kitchen is tiny but well equipped to cook basic meals. The cottage is tiny, possibly the smallest on Airbnb. The stairs are very narrow and steep, because of this the cottage is not really suitable for people with limited mobility, the elderly or couples with a baby or children. It is a perfect base for couples with a sense of adventure and a young outlook wanting to explore the moors and escape technology. Please note because of the small size we cannot accommodate children or pets.
Castleton is a beautiful village in the Esk Valley, it is in the centre of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. 20 minutes in the car or 40 on the train will get you to Whitby and all of the delights it has to offer. Fish and chips, the seaside, shopping etc. Drive a bit further and you can come to Scarborough or York.
  • This cottage is tiny, but it had everything one would need to enjoy a short stay in the North York Moors. The heating unit on the first floor made the space super cozy, especially when you're surrounded by shelves and shelves of books! And the small kitchen has the basics you would need to cook anything you may buy from the Co-op that's only a few doors down from the cottage. Parking in town is pretty easy as long as you have a small enough car. Even with our larger Nissan vehicle, we were able to find a place late at night. The bed is extremely comfortable, especially with the heating pad turned on. The bath water also warmed quickly, and the windows on both floors provided extremely pleasing light during the morning and afternoon. Everything about this place is a relaxing and quiet getaway. And our walk down the block to the tea room in the morning was very cool too! So many kind people in this town and across all the towns in the Moors. You can't pass up the opportunity to stay in this historic house (around 200 years old!). And the booklet that James provides on the history of the cottage and the town is very good too! It really helped me appreciate our short stay even more.

    Gabbi2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • James' father was welcoming, flexible and accommodating of our requests. The cottage was cosy, clean and completely perfect - just what we needed and wanted! We only wish we could have stayed longer. We were so impressed and will definitely return again. We will be recommending the cottage to everyone!

    Sophie2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • James's place was beautiful and we throughly enjoyed our stay there. There was plenty of information about the area and the cottage itself, we found it very cozy and a pleasure to stay in. We will most certainly be back! Thanks Jemma and Mike

    Jemma2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This was my second time staying in James's lovely cottage - a perfect place in a friendly village with both wild and picturesque surroundings to explore.

    Elspeth2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • James’ “tiny cottage” is absolutely perfect for a base to explore Castleton and the Moors. But for anybody who loves social history it’s even more of a gem! Despite its size it has everything you need (except WiFi and phone signal- but not a problem for us) and a great pub on the doorstep. Clean, cute and cosy, plus James’ dad was incredibly helpful and informative when we arrived. We will definitely be back! Thanks so much ⭐️

    Rachel2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Brilliant little cottage from bygone era. You can really get the sense of life throughout the past two and a half centuries and little it changed up until quite recently. Great little taster for any 'Tiny house' enthusiasts.

Great little 2 bed property on a nice street in Carlin how.Perfectly situated for walks down to skinningrove beach and exploring the cliffs to Saltburn and Hummersea. Being on the Cleveland way there is lots to explore. We are a dog friendly property (to respectful dog owners). Main bed room double bed. Second bedroom bunk beds and bed settee which was brand new 23 dec Putting link as unfair negative review https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/askeby-2-seat-sofa-bed-graesbo-golden-yellow-50447970/
Carlin how is a very small close knit community. The houses are predominantly terrace houses that were for the miners and steel workers.
In Carlin How there is a chip shop , and a couple of shops , but the neighbour villages and towns of Loftus, Saltburn, Skelton all have bigger supermarkets and eateries

A traditional, mid-terrace stone cottage, set on the main street in the village of Skelton-in-Cleveland, near the delightful seaside town of Saltburn. Cosy, comfortable and extremely well equipped, it provides an excellent base for exploring the nearby dramatic coastline and the wonderful surrounding countryside. There is a fully enclosed rear yard, and a partly grassed small front garden.
Inside, there is a well-equipped, modern galley-style kitchen and a sitting room with a bay window overlooking a pleasant front street. Double doors lead into the dining room, whilst on the second floor there is a snug, perfect for relaxing with the morning newspaper. With two charming bedrooms and a family shower room, the property suits the needs of a family for an enjoyable holiday. A travel cot is provided for infants and well behaved dogs are welcome.
A couple of minutes’ walk brings you to all the local amenities befitting a Village High Street, including a supermarket as well as pubs and coffee shops, while within easy walking distance is the historic, Victorian spa town of Saltburn.

The Forge is perfectly located near Staithes on the Yorkshire coast for exploring the stunning coastal villages and towns, and relaxing on beautiful sandy beaches. The Forge is a stone built cottage positioned in a peaceful, secluded location along a farm track, just three miles from the picturesque village of Staithes on the Yorkshire Coast . It boasts of breath-taking, panoramic views of the sea and surrounding countryside, which are best viewed from the bedrooms and dining area. It has recently undertaken a full refurbishment and is a modern two bedroomed cottage with two bathrooms and open plan living area, complete with underfloor heating and a log burner. Patio doors from the dining room open onto a decking area with garden furniture, where you can relax and enjoy the spectacular view whilst dining alfresco. The Forge provides an extremely high standard of accommodation for families and couples and welcomes a well behaved dog. We apologise that we have not yet got any more photos of this property as it still undergoing renovations but we will put them on as soon as we can.
Grinkle is just 3 miles from the fishing village of Staithes with its quaint shops and has strong links to Captain Cook and his maritime history, traditional pubs serving home cooked food and a beach. The famous Cleveland Way twists and turns along the coastline dropping down into some wonderful bays and coves such as Runswick Bay and Robin Hoods Bay and there are plenty of cycle routes across the area and a cycle hire shop in nearby Saltburn-by-the-Sea. The bustling town of Whitby is a short drive away with its myriad of shops, pubs and restaurants. Famous for its abbey and links to Bram Stoker’s Dracula there are plenty of things to see and do in the town and regular events and festivals throughout the year. The North York Moors are nothing short of spectacular and well worth a visit with many National Heritage Sites, walking routes and villages to enjoy. Beach 4 miles. Shop 3 miles, pub and restaurant ½ mile. The Forge can be booked together with Sea View cottage to provide accomodation for up to 8 guests. Originally an open ‘Forge’ we have created a ground and first floor unit of unique character and feel. There is an open plan modern well equipped kitchen/diner with patio doors opening out onto a decked area perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine in the evening. A lovely bedroom with twin beds and a shower room alongside forms the rest of the ground floor area. Underfloor heating throughout the downstairs gives it a lovely cosy warm feel. Upstairs the living area with fabulous lob burner and quality furniture really makes you feel at home ideal for unwinding after a hard day exploring the area. A luxury second bedroom with en-suite bathroom including toilet and washbasin completes the first floor.
This is a quiet and traquil location yet still well situated for visiting beaches

  • A cosy cottage kitted out to a very high standard. Handy location for Staithes, Whitby, Saltburn and the North York Moors railway and good network of paths from the cottage. Be aware that the road is a bit rough and parking fairly tight. The bathrooms are cosy but you do have 2. The view of Boulby Mine was a surprise, but other directions have lovely views. Overall, we loved it.

  • Clean, comfortable and dog friendly which is so important to us. Can imagine the outdoor space would be lovely to sit in the summer, just a tad cold for us this time round to enjoy. Private parking at rear of property. Co-op next door for any supplies which is handy. Asda is roughly 10 min drive away. Great host who replied promptly to any questions and very pleasant when we met, kindly guided me out the gate to prevent me scratching my car 😊. Would stay again in warmer weather. Thanks again, Shirley.

An absolute bargain if you simply want a bed for the night. This single room has a supremely comfortable antique Staples bed (by appointment to His Majesty the King!) We live in a dead end road so there is absolutely no traffic. You can hear a pin drop... or the sea, or the band from the Bandstand on a Sunday afternoon. The gorgeous Saltburn Woods are literally thirty seconds away at the bottom of the street, and we're just a short walk from Saltburn's famous Cliff Lift, Pier and Beach.
The room contains a small set of shelves, a small cupboard with more shelves and a shelf lamp. The shared bathroom is just across the hallway with a shower and bath.
Saltburn-by-the-Sea is unique and we're just a short walk from the main streets with their boutique shops and cafes. The Italian Gardens are five minutes away through the Valley Gardens at the end of our street. Our huge beach is just down the road.

Book your stay by the sea in a king bedroom with private bathroom. Lovely Victorian terrace home.
Book your stay in this lovely Victorian terrace house 100m from Saltburn's Marine Parade, overlooking 5 miles of pristine golden sand on the Jurassic Coast, majestic Huntcliff and the famous Victorian Pier. We are on the famous Cleveland Way walking route, where you can choose to head down the cost walking along lofty clifftops to Staithes, Whitby You will be free to make yourself totally at home - use the Kitchen, your own shower room and toilet, or chill in the front room or music room. It would be fantastic if the opportunity arises to chat and get to know you, but if you prefer privacy that is cool too. See my guidebook for things to do - there's lots to keep you occupied! In the morning you can lie in as long as you want and fix your own breakfast. I provide bread, jams, and eggs, coffee and tea. Re food - if you can see it, you're welcome to eat it. I promise you'll love our town as much as we do - we can't wait to meet you. Bianca.
Our neighbourhood is very friendly and welcoming to visitors. Our house is a terraced house (English trademark) painted light yellow and is pretty big inside, but looks small on the outside because it's dwarfed by the house next door. Saltburn is a very special Victorian cliff-top town. It's totally unpretentious, a bit of a bohemian enclave full of artists, alternative thinkers and some great local businesses. There is so much pride in our beach and our town, and in summer the town makes a special effort in the Northumbria in Bloom competition often winning prizes despite having very few houses with gardens. We also have the "Valley Gardens" and woods which is worth exploring - you might even find a victorian Viaduct hidden down there!
  • Bianca is a lovely host and we were given the use of all the kitchen facilities, if required. Bianca left tea and breakfast . Bed very comfy. We also used the lounge later evening to watch TV. So near to the sea, promenade and town and we loved Saltburn by the Sea.

  • Very relaxed feel about the home but host was attentive when I was around. Had my own space but could be part of the home if this was what I wanted.

    Alex2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Bianca and her daughters are lovely, great hosts and very welcoming. The room we had was at the back of the house away from the road so that helps to minimise noise, although it's a quiet street to start with anyway. The bed is ridiculously comfy and as other reviews have mentioned, the shower is pretty cool too. There's a separate front room to use if you need, and full use of the kitchen helps if you need it. I Highly recommend staying here, if we haven't booked in again that is!!

Lovely warm and friendly family home situated in the beautiful village of Marske by the Sea. This is an ideal spot that's centrally located making it perfect for commuters, students, contractors or weekend visitors to the area. Just a short walk from the bohemian town of Saltburn, 20 minutes from Middlesbrough, close to North Yorkshire Moors, Whitby, Northallerton, Thirsk and York. Surrounded by stunning countryside, beautiful clean beaches and breathtaking views.
My home is a modest 3 bedroomed terraced that overlooks a green with views of the countryside and woods beyond. The room you have booked is furnished with a single bed, a chest of 3 drawers and a built in wardrobe. Your room will have fresh clean bedding and towels, (if staying for a long duration, towels and bedding are changed every week or before on request) a hairdryer, full length mirror, tea, coffee facilities and a TV. You are welcome to help yourself to fresh OJ, tea, coffee and use of the kitchen. Parking is to the rear of the house and I recommend that this is how you access the property given the front of the house is not accessible by road and locating us by postcode can get confusing for people who don't know the area. Further details on how to find us will be provided prior to your stay.
My neighbourhood is largely made up of private housing which is ex authority property. It's quiet given no road access from the front and only parking at the rear - so no passing traffic. Marske village has a vibrant array of micro bars selling real ale, pubs, cafe's and restaurants - the village continues to grow in its diversity to cater for a wide variety of taste. We have the beautiful beach as seen on some of the photos and only a short and enjoyable walk from Saltburn which boasts the well known Victorian Italian Gardens, art galleries, restaurants, pier and I recommend a visit to The Cave on Milton Street, full of interesting art, photography and lots more bespoke items and gifts. Of course, the towns of Redcar and Middlesbrough are just a short car journey away making this a good place to stay if attending the University but want a quiet location to come back to . We have good access to North Yorkshire Moors, Whitby is a 35 min drive and in the other direction are the market towns of Northallerton, Thirsk and historic city of York.
  • Kay is a lovely host, welcoming and helpful, and her place is a brilliant base for coast path runs and sea swims. This is a great area, with interesting history and landscape and I really enjoyed my stay.

  • Lovely, friendly, welcoming host, nice quiet spotless house in a nice quiet area; seriously I slept for nearly 10 hours one night, something I never do at home. My five night stay provided a great four full days in a great location for exploring North Yorkshire. By way of example, on day one I walked along the beach from Marske to Saltburn and then on to Staithes along the stunning Cleveland Way (catching the excellent X4 bus back to Marske). The next day I caught the X4 to Whitby and walked from Whitby to Staithes. On day three I caught the train via Thornaby to spend a great day out enjoying everything there is to enjoy in York, and on day four I caught the train via Middlesbrough along the “scenic route” to Whitby, getting off at Grosmont (a couple of stops before Whitby) to enjoy a splendid day of operational steam trains and 40’s nostalgia at the annual “Railway in Wartime” festival being held by the North Yorks Moors Railway and Eden Camp. A fabulous break, made possible by a fabulous host; highly recommended.

This self contained holiday cottage offers a chance to get closer to the workings of a family dairy farm. It is situated in the North York Moors National Park, midway between the moors and the coast and just a fifteen minute drive (or slightly longer bus ride) from Whitby. The accomodation is unusually spacious for a one bedroomed cottage, it is light, warm and very well insulated but don’t forget there is the potential for noise and smells from the farm!
This holiday home is a one bedroomed cottage on our working dairy farm. We are on the North Yorkshire Moors, only five miles to Staithes and the coast and ten miles to Whitby. The self contained accomodation is all on the ground floor. The very large living area has a kitchen in the corner with a fridge and freezer, breakfast bar and table. There is a seating area with a television and DVD player. There is one bedroom with a double bed. The cottage has its own front door and you can park just outside. The cottage has a small back garden with open views of the countryside. We live next door and are generally available to assist in the unlikely event that any problems arise. Our farmhouse is a Grade II listed building and it was built before 1750. The attached cottage is in the former cow byre and it retains the original beams. It was fully renovated in 2012 and has the benefit of double glazing and underfloor heating. The farm and buildings are quite ‘green’. We have two ground source heat pumps and much of the electricity we use is generated on the farm by solar panels and a wind turbine.
The farm is in a small hamlet with about a dozen houses. A footpath runs through the farmyard and it is possible to walk down to the coast and up onto the moors from the house. There is a garage and a tea room in the hamlet. Unfortunately at the moment our village pub is closed for refurbishment so is only operating as a tea room. However other pubs are available in neighbouring villages. We are ten miles from Whitby and five miles from Staithes. The National Park Centre at Danby is also five miles away. This is a great place to learn about the history, geography and wildlife of the local area.
  • Wonderful place to stay, great location. Cottage had everything you needed and very clean. Loved it

  • We had a truly wonderful & relaxing few days stay. This was our 2nd visit to this charming cozy cottage & we cannot thank Barbara enough for her help, tips & hospitality.

  • A great location within easy distance of Whitby. The accommodation is warm, spacious and very comfortable. We particularly enjoyed the wood-burning stove. Our first trip away since becoming parents and we couldn’t be happier. The hosts were very accommodating and were even able to provide a play-mat for our 4 month old.

  • Beautiful, clean, warm and cosy. Great views and and fantastic location

    Lou2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time staying here for 3 nights. The cottage is spacious, warm and comfortable, and in a good spot for exploring the moors and the coast. Barbara also gave us a little tour of the farm which was very interesting!

    Lucy2020-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • What a gorgeous cottage! We absolutely loved staying here. The cottage itself is warm, cosy and clean, and the location is perfect for exploring the North York Moors. Barbara provides a lot of useful information about the surrounding area. Scaling Dam is a short walk away, which has a circular route to run or walk around. We loved exploring the area by day and returning to Barbara's cosy cottage in the evening to cook and relax. Highly recommended!

  • Had a wonderful stay at Susan's place. Fantastic location just a few mins walk from Saltburn front and, if you a runner/ walker - onto the Cleveland Way. Never a problem to get on street parking. Flat was really spacious and rooms were thoughtfully furnished - the pics don't do it justice. Well equipped kitchen with everything you need to cook meals. Super shower in bathroom and the central heating worked well, keeping the flat nice and warm on chilly winter evening. Comfy sofa / lounge perfect for relaxing in. Really good value - highly recommend. Thank you Susan. We hope to return again.

It was a good place for a base while we explored north Yorkshire. The house was more than big enough for 5 of us and our dog.

The Observatory is a truly breath-taking holiday home. With a magnificent viewing tower showcasing unbridled views of Saltburn and the coast, it is a property like no other. The apartment is set within The Zetland - a beautiful Grade II listed building which originally opened in 1863. It was one of the world’s first railway hotels with its own private platform and you can still see the original canopy and railway buffer today. Described as ‘the jewel in the crown’, the building is packed with history and character. Sleeping up to 4 guests, The Observatory is the perfect place for family breaks or getaways with friends. We're a family run holiday accommodation business providing luxury holiday homes along the North Yorkshire coastline. We pride ourselves on providing premium accommodation along with quick and efficient communication. We are always on hand to help with any questions or queries you may have, and our twenty first century approach will mean you always get complete flexibility when booking your stay. Whether you're staying with us for one night or two weeks, we know that you will enjoy the comfort and luxury that comes as standard at each of our Stay North Yorkshire properties.
Upon entering The Observatory, you will be captivated by the bright and airy feel which flows throughout the apartment. Head left along the hallway and you’ll find the large, open plan living / dining area. The living area features comfy, plush sofas and a Smart TV so you’ll feel at home in no time at all. The dining area is perfect for entertaining friends and enjoying family meals. You’ll notice amazing artwork on the walls – from bright painted pieces to subtle photographs of the local area. In the summer months, you can open the balcony doors and let the warm air drift in. Out on the balcony, you’ll be wowed by the views. It’s the ideal place to enjoy a morning coffee and watch the world go by. Head to the incredible viewing tower and you’ve found the haven. Tall floor to ceiling arched windows curve around the tower and provide the best views. Watch as the waves lap the shore and the birds swoop over the cliffs in the distance. Back down the stairs and past the living area, you’ll find the kitchen. With a microwave, oven, kettle, coffee machine, toaster, refrigerator and dishwasher – you’ll have everything you need for your stay. The main bedroom is spacious and relaxing. Light streams in from the windows which are set within the quirky angles of the room. There is ample space for your belongings with built in wardrobes and a chest of drawers. To the left, you’ll find the en-suite bathroom which features a walk-in shower. The second bedroom features the same unique angles, with a large window facing you as you enter the room. The neutral colour scheme is relaxing, and you’ll enjoy your sleep in the comfy double bed. The main bathroom has a rustic feel with muted green panelling and natural colours. The large space features a deep bath so you can enjoy a long, relaxing soak in the tub during your stay.
The Observatory is located in the charming Victorian Spa town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea on the North Yorkshire coast. Located in the heart of the town, the apartment is only a short walk from the beach and lower promenade. Take the oldest functioning cliff lift in the UK down to the promenade and you’ll arrive at the 208-metre pier which stretches out into the sea. The long sandy shores are overlooked by colourful boutique beach huts and high cliffs tower in the distance. The Observatory is close to all local amenities including independent shops, bars, restaurants and bistros. Saltburn has plenty of beautiful walks too. The Valley Gardens are a maze of paths and tracks which wind through the flowers and woodland. If you want to explore further, The Cleveland Way National Trail is over 100 miles long and the lovely Saltburn is featured. If you fancy a 17.5 mile jaunt, start at Saltburn and walk your way to Sandsend. This walk is a great way to explore the North Yorkshire coastline and the views are beautiful!

Having only been in Saltburn a short time I'm still learning about the area. I fell in love with it the first time friends brought me here, a beautiful Victorian seaside with a great beach and lovely area to go off walking inland too. Take a walk along the pier: then you can come back up on the funicular to the shops and restaurants. All this within 5 minutes walking distance of the house.
  • Ruth was incredibly welcoming and helpful, the house is a classic Saltburn Victoria 5 bed and is absolutely gorgeous. The room was huge, comfy and honestly one of the best nights sleep I've ever had, I never wanted to leave. We loved meeting Ralph the dog too, he was super friendly and just wanted fuss. We'll certainly be going back again in the future.

The comfortable open plan living, well-equipped kitchen and central location make this property perfect for a couple wanting a romantic break exploring this beautiful area. The glorious coastline is ideal for walker and bird watching. 10 minutes drive to North Yorkshire moors 5 minutes from nearest beach Whitby is 20 minutes away by car. Sports centre with swimming pool nearby
So close to almost everything, 5 minutes by car to the nearest beach famous for its sandbanks, 10 minutes to the next one, All have fabulous walks, 20 minutes away from the famous Whitby and all its Dracula connections, Draculas gravestone at the lovely Whitby Abbey the very popular famous and amazing Goth Weekends twice a year , beach, boat trips, lovely pier, beautiful scenery on the drive there choice of moor route or coastal route, 5 minutes away from the beautiful North Yorkshire moors, with all its lovely villages , great eating places, stunning views, fabulous walks and of course, the sheep, closer to ‘home’ we have some really good eating places only a short distance away, very local pubs and takeaways, Skinningrove Chippy definitely recommended. All restaurant/cafes in the property are recommended by myself, if I haven’t been I can’t recommend, but I’m trying to get round most of them, although the building is on the main high street it’s accessed through a door leading to a courtyard which means peaceful and private, local co-op next door equipped for almost every need open 6am -10pm , dog friendly , secure small garden/patio area , small child friendly, I have a travel cot available, but don’t provide bedding for the travel cot! . If you don’t want to drive, there is a bus stop either side of the main road , taxi service numbers in the cottage are also recommended by myself.
  • A lovely little holiday let with everything you need there, easy to find, easy check in and dog friendly with a very secure yard. Some lovely finishing touches like fresh flowers. All you need on your doorstep, pubs, cafe and co-op. Some great places to visit within short driving distance. Thank you we would definitely recommend.

  • Great little flat, with a secure garden for the dogs. Very warm and cozy and the bed was extremely comfortable with the freshest bedding I've ever slept on. Best nights sleep I've had in ages.

  • Peter's place was the perfect retreat for us, a family of four and our trusty beagle. The house is very warm and cozy with direct access to the countryside. The beds were incredibly comfortable, the appliances and bath/shower rooms were all modern and we had everything we needed. We spent our days walking, despite the weather and came back to London feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. We can highly recommend Seaview (you actually can see the Sea from the loft room!) and hope to come back for a visit in a warmer season!

  • A fantastic spot! This is a lovely location and brilliant value. The view out the back when the skies are clear are stunning - some of the best I’ve had in anywhere I’ve stayed. The house is very modern and well designed. The kitchen has all the amenities you would need. The living space is very cosy, with a fire, and comfy sofas. All open plan - the dining table has a beautiful view out the back of the house. All the rooms are a good size and very comfy beds. Plenty of space. The outdoor space really makes this special however, and is a fantastic spot to sit and view the countyside and the sea! The hosts were very helpful, responding quickly and offered local tips. They also left some essentials and few extra bits as a nice surprise on arrival. I can’t recommend it enough. Thanks again for a wonderful stay!

  • Perfect rural Yorkshire cottage to relax in and enjoy the view. Close to the coast for exploring nearby coastal villages. Highlight is the patio/terrace with hill and sea views in the distance, idyllic for a summer evening and bbq. The cottage is modern, all the amenities you will need and sparkling clean. Cosy log burner was warming after a day out on the coast. I would have liked slightly more comfortable sofas to relax in front of the fire but apart from that a beautiful cottage.
