Birken Cottage - Holidays in the Herbsthausen sawmill

Our three one-room apartments — Ahorn, Linde, and Birke — combine the historic charm of Herbsthausen with contemporary design. Each apartment is completely unique and has been modernized by us. They offer space for two to three people each. The apartments are part of “Herbsthausen”, an cultural project in the town of Gartow. We are renovating a historic sawmill and transforming it into a future-oriented place for art, industrial heritage, living, working, international exchange, and relaxation.

In the middle of the forest, on a clearing, 3 km from the beautiful town of Gartow, lies our special retreat. If you are looking for peace and quiet in nature and value simplicity and goodness, this is the place. The old half-timbered building, a former stable, was renovated with high quality and sustainably with natural materials. Clay plaster on the walls and the wood-burning stove guarantee an excellent indoor climate, and the walk to the wood-fired sauna promises absolute relaxation!

The house is located 500 m from Lake Arendsee on the edge of the quiet bungalow estate. 5 min walk to Lake Arendsee, so absolutely close to the lake. The tiny house has a total of 44 sqm plus sauna (extra charge). It is fully equipped with a kitchenette, dishwasher, oven and stove, dining table and a cozy living room corner with smart TV. Wi-Fi is available free of charge throughout the house. The house is cozy and open with large windows. It is heated with modern underfloor heating.

During your stay with us you will live in a lovingly restored, spacious construction trailer with terrace and garden area. It is also set up for long stays. In winter, it is heated with wood and briquettes and it quickly becomes cozy and warm. Running cold water is only available in the trailer during the frost-free period! Horses can be brought along, 1 hectare. coupling directly on the trailer. The bathroom area and sauna are 50 m from the main house.

Idyllic apartment with garden

You can relax well in this peaceful accommodation. In the heart of Rühstädt, you can lie in the hammock and watch storks, cook in the well-equipped kitchen or grill on the terrace. Nights by the campfire, romantic walks along the Elbe – summer can be enjoyed here in a very special way. But autumn and winter also have their special charm here on the Elbe. After a long walk, you can relax wonderfully in front of the fireplace with a cup of tea.

I rent a large house in the center of town. In addition to the complete rental, guests have the option to occupy individual rooms. The house has two fully equipped bathrooms (incl. toilet and showers). In addition to an inviting large family kitchen and a separate dining and living room with fireplace, this accommodation is also a good alternative for assembly workers. Parking is sufficiently available.

Tiny house - clay plastered quiet island, near the Elbe

Enjoy the sounds of nature when staying in this special place. You will sleep in the ecologically developed construction trailer with lovingly designed clay plaster. The bed is 1.60 m wide. There is an outdoor separate toilet and an outdoor shower within walking distance. There is a gas stove and the possibility to cook, but no running water. This must be fetched in a faucet that can be reached on foot.
