Cottage holiday rentals in Bowness-on-Windermere

We stayed at Simon and Belinda's place for a week and it was exactly what we needed. Fantastic location for walks and food. The Wainwright's Inn is only 0.2 miles away. Great food and local ales on your doorstep. The cottage is cosy, the kitchen is well equipped and the information provided was very thorough and useful. There are some books in the house they have prepared to show various walks and local recommendations. We did some of these walks and our 5 year old enjoyed every second! We took advantage of the leisure facilities at The Langdale. This was a great addition to the cottage! Really recommend if you want a place near to town locations, walks and local pubs/cafés/restaurants.

What a wonderful place for a peaceful break away. The house was so comfortable with all the amenities needed. The hot tub was a lovely addition too! My son, who loves wildlife photography, absolutely adored the river. He spent every possible moment down there photographing Kingfishers! I would definitely recommend to anyone who loves birds and wildlife.

We really enjoyed our stay. Barneys cottage is a lovely house, with great character and very nicely presented. The property was very clean and tidy, combining the traditional and modern features very well. Kev was also a great host - helpful when required but not intrusive. We would happily stay here again.

We arrived on the Friday for a 3 night stay. The Barn is in a beautiful place inside and out. The Hot Tub was lovely on an evening and the patio fire was great to sit around for drinks early evening watching the Sun go down. Casterton village is only a couple of miles from Kirkby Lonsdale. The village its self had a gorgeous pub 7 mins walk from the Barn which had a great range of food and served Sourdough pizza on Sunday evening after 1700hrs with a lovely warm atmosphere and open fires. There is a great taxi service and some fabulous restaurants near to the Barn. The Black Bull and the Highwayman were fabulous. (We did go to Number 9 also and it was not somewhere I could recommend, service and food really poor.) Patrick and Anika were great responsive hosts and this is a do not miss property, that offers every you need for a fabulous stay. Our little group loved it. Thank you Karen, Denise and Naomi

Hermitage cottage was in a beautiful situation right on the river Lune. The cottage was clean and tidy. We enjoyed the hot tub, the barbecue and the outdoor seating. We were extremely fortunate with the weather and really enjoyed our stay. Walks around the estate were lovely. It is a lovely base to explore the Forest of Bowland and surrounding areas.

Wonderful 5-night stay at Chestnut Cottage after Rob completed the Great Glen Way & West Highland Way in 6 days! @freemanwalking on YouTube 😀 The hot tub was a real treat for soothing sore muscles. Stunning bay views made the cottage the perfect place to relax. The bed was super comfy, and we loved the little extra touches like the soft robes and complimentary tea, coffee, and milk. Just a short, scenic walk along the promenade to the village for supplies. The weather wasn’t the best, but the cosy cottage more than made up for it. Highly recommend! Thank you Gemma

Fantastic place for a relaxing couple of days away . A hard to beat location matched only by the exceptional accommodation. Watching the sunset on the river from the hot tub takes some beating .

We had a lovely stay at Punchbowl Cottage in Grayrigg. The house was cosy, spotless, and perfect for our family. We've travelled around England a bit, and this was probably the best accommodation we've stayed in so far. It's also a great base for exploring the Lake District – peaceful and beautifully located. And I must say... I completely fell in love with the hand cream from The Bath House! Thank you for the wonderful hospitality Kirsty!

We had a wonderful stay at Morven's. The cottage itself was beautiful and contained everything that we needed. The sauna was a unique addition! Everything had been considered and the small touches, such as the fresh herbs and the treats for the dogs really made us feel at home. Our hosts were quick to respond to a phone call and incredibly attentive to our needs. The village of Staveley is a hidden gem and we made good use of the Eagle & Child pub and the outrageously good bakery, More. I would highly recommend this stay and hope that we can return ourselves!

Where to start. If you're looking at staying in Ambleside then look no further. Couldn't really ask for more, everything you need is right at your doorstep, yet just set back out of the centre that it's peaceful. The old wash house really has everything you would want. The courtyard outside is the perfect place to have your morning coffee or evening drink, with beautiful views and morning and evening sun. A charming little place where i am sure I will Stay again in the future.

it was exactly what we wanted, away from the main tourist areas, quiet, cosy, friendly locals( the lambs and horses) near enough to the local pub to walk off the after effects of an afternoon in the garden. would definitely stay again.

Stunning location and cottage. Sunshine for our three day stay, the walk's and views are stunning. We would definitely recommend a stay at Duddon View cottage, perfectly situated for soul calming walks in the surrounding fells, better than any medicine. John told us the house had everything we’d need & it really did. We honestly couldn’t find one fault. It was perfect!! Absolutely loved it, great for relaxing & socialising for a large family. Good quality furnishings & accessories. Literally exactly what we needed & next time we have a larger group, I’d definitely be booking here again rather than looking anywhere else. Great hosts too!! Katherine’s place was a fantastic spot to stay. The location was so central to everything. There was so much room which was great because there were four of us. We recommend this accommodation!

I stayed at Helen’s cottage with my daughter; we’ve both had a lot going on lately so really needed a break and that’s what we got. The cottage was outstanding, Helen thought of literally everything, even leaving a bottle of chilled Prosecco, some bread, tea, coffee, milk, butter and jam. When I said we were mother and daughter, she even made up the sofa bed for us. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this peaceful little hideaway and its kind and generous host.

Wonderful stay at Strawberry Cottage. Location was amazing so we could make the most of everything Keswick has to offer. Very homely cottage, very comfy beds and lots of local information available. Beautifully decorated too!

My wife and I stayed 4 nights at Crook a Beck Barn. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this property. It is well equipped, with a great kitchen, plenty of wardrobe space and a large walk in shower alongside a large bath. It is in a peaceful setting with beautiful views and has all levels of walks available straight from the property. We enjoyed the extras especially the lemon drizzle cake made by Judith. We will definitely books this property again on our next visit to Patterdale.

Jem’s Conga’ was the perfect spot to explore Ambleside and the nearby towns of Bowness, Grasmere and Keswick. Jem was a brilliant host who shared ideas of walks and things to keep us occupied in the rain. A comfortable, homely, cosy cottage in a stunning and peaceful setting.

Couldn’t thank Caroline enough. We stayed with a new baby and the place was perfect. Lots of extra amenities and bits to support your stay. A great selection of recommendations and leaflets. Caroline was really helpful and responsive when we stood outside the wrong house (accidentally), feeling lost. Couldn’t have been a better stay! Really recommend !

Lovely cottage ideally located on the edge of Windermere town, Walked to the lake and travelled by boat to Brockhole and returned on the bus. Good transport and restaurants. Thank you Mark - we really enjoyed our stay.
