Heat up the cherry-red kettle or a cappuccino and indulge in a morning snack while overlooking the serene Zen garden of a Hillcrest haven with beach equipment for coastal road trips. Take a stroll in Balboa Park and greet Buddha at the foot of the steps as you return to this fresh abode and relax with a favorite beverage on your private balcony, or grilling area while listening to the twinkling garden fountain creating a chilled ambience before sampling the eclectic Hillcrest nightlife. Each apartment has it's own private balcony, nestled in the beautiful palm tree-populated resort-like courtyard. The courtyard, gazebo and grill for all guests to enjoy. Free high-speed internet provided. Bedroom TV features AT&T U-verse and a "Smart TV" is located in the living room. Full kitchen with espresso machine, coffee press, (Starbuck's coffee provided) gas stove, new appliances, and most needed cooking utensils. Cleaning supplies, dish drainer, and garbage can are located under the kitchen sink. Each bathroom is complete with shampoo, antibacterial body wash, and bar soap. Air conditioning and heating provided. Garage space for a small to mid-size car. In-room safe box, luggage rack, wooden hangers, iron and board. Dual-pane windows with Blackout shades in the bedroom. All beds are brand new, (Simmons World Class Cresthill, Plush Pillowtop Mattress) using only high-quality hotel bedding standards. White sheets and Egyptian cotton towels, blankets, and comforters are provided and washed with each new guest. Mattresses are covered with a moister barrier protector, as well as a "Sure Guard Mattress Protector", providing an allergen barrier, and dust mite protection. Dark towels are provided for dirtier jobs, and are located in the bathroom closet. Here you will find the hair dryer bar soap, extra toilet paper, and a few cleaning supplies. Laundry facility is located at the back of the house, and is complete with all laundry needs, and a vacuum cleaner should you need it. Here you will also find beach chairs, towels, umbrellas and coolers. After arriving at the main address, 1255 Essex St. San Diego, CA 92103, proceed to the gated entrance on right, and enter into the garden courtyard. Go to back of property and take the stairs to left to Retreat #1 For safety, all outdoor spaces are under video surveillance at all times. All doors and gates are keyless, and must remain closed at all times. All door codes for accessible spaces to the front gate, front door, laundry room and garage, will be provided one day prior to your arrival. Guests will also have access to the BBQ/garden area, and Laundry Room. Although I do not personally greet all of our guests, I am often at the property, and live only a few blocks away. Please know that I am always available through phone call or text messaging, and you should feel free to contact me anytime should you need anything. Hillcrest is centrally located immediately north of downtown San Diego and accessible to 3 major freeways. Many beaches are 10-15 minutes from the property and restaurants, shopping, and nightlife are all within walking distance. Walking Hillcrest and Balboa park is a common activity for both locals and visitors. Bus stations and public bicycle rental program "Decobike" are at a walking distance; Uber and Lyft are very popular in San Diego. If you are driving your own vehicle, we offer free garage for small to mid-size cars. The apartment is small (cozy) and was designed for two people only. One couple or possibly two single friends, with one person sleeping on the sofa sleeper. The bathroom is located off the bedroom, which might make a stay difficult for two friends. - Laundry Room hours are from 8am to 8pm, so we don't disturb other guests. - All beach equipment, vacuum cleaner, and plunger, can be found in the laundry room area. - Garbage receptacles are located by the entrance of the garage, under the steps of the apartments on either side. Please tie all bags before disposing.

Find a Country Feel in the City with Rural Views

Sit out in the backyard then come indoors to relish leafy views from a triple-aspect living room. The apartment has a cottage feel with window boxes and wooden fittings. A hanging plant, and white linens provide a calming feeling. Awake to the songs of birds and explore our 1/2 acre of fruit trees, vegetable beds, and landscape. Yet most of San Diego’s attractions are just 5 to 10 miles away. The new kitchen is included in your space so you can prepare your own meals if desired. Cooking equipment included are a convection toaster oven, coffee maker, hot pot, a microwave, and an induction plate, pots & pans, kitchen tools, cutlery and dishes. We also provide coffee, tea, sugar, salt & pepper, cooking oil, and ice. This space is attached to our main home but you’ll have your own separate entrance and private kitchen/ living, bed and bath. We'd love to greet you and show you around when you arrive, but if we happen to miss you will have your own unique door code to get in. We’ve prepared a binder of information for guests and can help you plan for best use of your time. However if you prefer to be on your own we’re fine with that too. We have walked to downtown or to the nearest trolley, but unless you are walkers and out for exercise, you will probably want a car. There are now lots of bikes available for rent, but it will be uphill to get back to the house. Some of our guests have chosen to rely only on Uber, in which case grocery and/or meal delivery are helpful. If you have an afternoon or evening flight you are welcome to store luggage at our house after your 10 AM check out. We are in a hilly residential area with stores, restaurants and bus/ trolley access about 2 miles away, so you'll have the most flexibility if you come by car. If you choose to Uber, you can order groceries or takeout meals to be delivered.

Spacious Casita with Resort Amenities

White walls and French doors open up each room to create a feeling of calm throughout the home. From the designer furnishing and tasteful decor items to the tennis court and pool outside, this Casita is as spacious as it is stylish. The property is resort like, without the crowds. Play tennis, shoot hoops, lay by the pool, or stroll through the garden. Hiking and mountain bike trails are out the back door. PLEASE NOTE: price indicated is for two guests staying in the one bedroom one bath with full kitchen. Optional second bedroom, bathroom can be added for an additonal $198 per night. Our place is very private, yet close by car to many attractions. 7 miles to the beach, 20 minutes to Legoland. Hiking out the back door, you will find endless trails and great mountain biking. Guests can use the tennis court and relax in their own private yard. Pool is available, although it is not heated. Hot tub is also available, but a $20.00 usage fee is needed to get it hot (It's big, and takes a lot of gas to get hot!) We live on the property, but it is very private. I can be reached easily by phone or text if something is needed. Nestled in a quiet neighborhood that evokes a country vibe, the casita is accessible to all San Diego has to offer. Hiking trails are just outside with the beaches, local restaurants, and boutique shops just a short drive away. Permit Number: RNTL-007165-2017 A car is needed. The City of Encinitas charges an additional 10% TOT tax which I will add to the booking after confirmation. You will receive a request for payment before your arrive and it is separate from your reservation fee. Comfortable upstairs apartment with street parking, kitchen, bathroom, and AC. Walking distance from some of San Diego's best bars, breweries, and restaurants and a short drive to Balboa Park, the Zoo, Gaslamp district, and the beach. The property was recently painted and the new colors aren't reflected in my Airbnb photos, yet. The apartment door is a bright turquoise blue. * Update: Brand new high speed Internet extender installed and memory foam sofa mattress for the pullout sofabed. Enjoy!
