Historic, Art-FIlled Briam Cottage Near the Alamo
This cottage, perfect for a couple (and perhaps of couple of guests) is a century and a half old and has been lovingly restored and decorated. If history, art and charm are your thing, you will love our house. The house is a functioning art gallery, full of paintings (most of them by us the artist-owners) and treasures from our travels. Enjoy our fully-stocked cook's kitchen with a Viking stove, microwave, blender, toaster, crockpot and 2 coffeemakers so you can make a pot or a cup at a time. Included with your booking is a starter set of our favorite coffees. Both indoor and outdoor tableware are included, so don't pass up a picnic in our glorious outdoor floral courtyard. In CASE you choose to leave this oasis and see the sites...you're in luck as the city's most visited sites are steps away PLUS great restaurants, bars, & a wonderful new grocery market with a fabulous assortment of wines and beer. Two blocks away, find an entrance to the Riverwalk, and take a shady stroll along the Romantic San Antonio River. We have off-street parking for one car reserved for our guests. There are stairs down to the bedroom and bathroom and the clawfoot tub is the only bath- time option so Briam House may not be suitable for guests with mobility difficulties. The Briam House likes to move around so sometimes the doors can stick...dont be shy to push! The house is built of caliche block and limestone...this material is chalky so keeping the house 100% dust free is a big challenge. We do our best but if you encounter some dust or tiny limestone crumbs you'll know why. We do not offer shower, dishwasher or disposal. Our guests have access to the whole house with the exception of the storeroom and a couple of drawers, clearly marked. The stone-built cottage dates from the 1870s and is literally steps from the Alamo in the centrally-located Southtown neighborhood. The area boasts historic charm, great dining, parks, and nightlife. Rent a bike nearby and ride around the city. We are not kidding when we say Briam House is an easy walk from the Alamo, Riverwalk, Hemisfair Park, La Villita Arts + Crafts Village and Convention Center...NONE of these things are more that 3 city blocks from our home! If you'd like to visit a little further, (say for instance The Pearl) B-Cycle bike rentals are just a block away. Catch the No. 11 Viva Cultural route bus on the next corner and go to most of the city's museums and back for around a buck! The basement is below stairs, as is the bathroom. Our historian clawfoot tub is romantic and beautiful, and a really great soak, but be careful getting in and out. (We don't offer a shower.)
